New PC with Windows XP, replacing XP. My PDF docs will not open and I am getting the following messages: EITHER Adobe Reader could not open ‘xxx.doc’ because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn’t correctly decoded). OR Word will now convert your PDF to an editable Word document. This may take a while. etc. Help please.

These are two completely different symptoms. Please explain exactly what you do when you get either of these messages. Also tell us your Reader version.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

2009 MacBook Pro eh? It looks like your hard drive has failed. Three years is pretty standard. Often, then only hint you have is catastrophic failure.
If you put the old hard drive into an external enclosure or similar device, you may still be able to migrate your data from it. Just because it won't boot doesn't mean you can't still read from it. Still, I wouldn't keep trying it. As long as you are buying a new hard drive, may as well get sometime to use with Time Machine too. -

I am running OSX 10.8.2 with Safari 6.0.2. Many videos will not open on Safari but open on Chrome. I have enabled javascript in Safari Preferences. I get a javascript void message when copying the link of the non-working videos. In one discussion about javascript problems in Mountain Lion a Java Preferences Ap in Utilities was used to fix the problem. I do not have a Java Preferences Ap in Applications\Utilities. I am stuck.
I am having a similar issue, except mine is with a military site. The military sites use java althroughout for downloading files/image. The problem is that it never gives me the notice to enable java for these sites.
I would like to have the ability to manually tell safari to allow java on a particular site so this isn't an issue.
This would solve my issue and allow a way to activate java on sites that don't give you the option to allow it. -

PDF files will not open in a Safari (v 6.0.5) browser window, OS 10.8.5. Version 11.0.04 Adobe Reader and Plug-ins installed. Both local and internet files do not load. What is happening here?
Ok. I reloaded v 11.0.04 of Adobe Reader after quiting Safari 6.0.5 . Then deleted the 2 plug-ins AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin . Relaunched Safari and tried to read a pdf from a repository at the URL mentioned in post 10 . The file was loaded and displayed correctly. Also a pdf file from my local disk store displayed nicely as well. What I do not understand is that there is no listing of an Adobe plug in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins , nor does Safari list any Adobe plug ins. So in that case this means that plug-ins for the display of pdfs in Safari windows are no longer needed!
Adobe Reader version 11.0.04 is now working for me.

Bookmarked PDF's will not open in browser window
I just got the latest FF 3.6.6 and installed Nitro from Adobe so that I could open PDF's in the browser. Before upgrading, I could bookmark a PDF and it would still open it in the window. Now it wants to save it. How do I fix this? I bookmark a lot of PDF's because I don't want to save them on my computer, and I use them over and over for my writing.

You should be able to open PDF files from the internet directly in a separate Nitro window (not a tab in Firefox) if you change your settings on the Application panel (Tools > Options > Applications for "...PDF Document" content type(s). Read the following 2 articles carefully:

I have installed, uninstalled Adobe Reader 10 and Internet Explorer. I have tried all the solutions listed in some other posts. PDF links will not open the files on some web sites, Fidelity.com in particular. I have reset IE8 Advanced Options and Advanced Options Reset, Created another Windows Administrative user, performed clean boot in Windows and run IE8 (no addons) from the accessory menu and unchecked the Display PDF in Browser box in preferences. None of these options have resulted in correcting the problem. Adobe Reader 10 works fine on the Fidelity web site in Firefox.

Tried opening a file in library and it states can't open database with library name? It says Relaunch then will not open? and Blocks me completely from Aperture. I have to go to Finder to Rename it? I need this file how do I get it to open?

You're going to have to give a bit more information.
What do you mean by "opening a file in library?" There is no function of Aperture to open files -- you can open (switch) libraries.
You'll have to be more specific about error messages, too. Perhaps some screenshots would be useful to diagnose your problem. "Can't open database with library name" is not enough detail about what Aperture is really telling you.

All you normally need to do is copy the entire iTunes folder from User's Music on one computer into User's Music on the other. You can use a network share or an external drive to help with the move. Move the library before installing iTunes.

Pdf links will not open in new browser window
I have created a pdf document in Acrobat 9 Pro that is password protected. You must enter the password to open it. In this document there are perhaps 15 links to other pdf documents. I set up each of the links to open in a new window. The links work as expected in Acrobat, each opening in a new window, however, when I posted the documents to the web, the links open in the same window as the original document. This would not be a big issue if the original document were not password protected, but each time the user clicks on a link, it takes him out of the original document. To get back to the original document requires re-entering the password. This is a major irritation with so many links.
I know that you can set Acrobat to display the documents in its own window rather than in the browser, but my users don't know that. Control clicking on a pdf link does not open it in a new window as it would with an HTML link. Is there a simple fix to this problem that does not involve user intervention?Well, I came up with a solution, thanks to Ted Padova who offers a simple JavaScript solution on his blog at http://www.acrobatusers.com/blogs/tedpadova/opening-pdfs-new-browser-windows.
The solution is clearly laid out even for beginners, if you know how to create a link or button.
It seems to me that a prime objective of Adobe in developing Acrobat would be to have it behave the same way in free-standing mode and as a plug-in. In this case it does not, and obviously, it has not for the last forty-eleven years that Acrobat has been on the market. Maybe some day they will get around to a fix for this obvious problem. In the meantime, read Ted's blog and be happy we have guys like him who can solve these problems. -

Itunes will open initially upon start up of windows vista, but if closes, it will not open up again. I have backed up all itune media files, i have uninstalled and reinstalled all apple products needed to operate I tunes according to apple, any suggestions of help would be appreciated. Thank you! 1. Check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
2. Go to. START button, type in
MSCONFIG
Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
Restart Windows.
3. Rename file "APSDaemon.exe' into "APSDaemon1.exe" from this location:
32bit Windows C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
64bit Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
(Take note that this is a temporary fix which will also disable the capability of WIFI SYNC) -
Windows Vista Issue: iTunes auto-updated, now will not open

I was running a version of iTunes that I recently downloaded after installing Windows Vista Ultimate. Yesterday, Apple Updater updated my iTunes install to version 7.1.3.1 and now iTunes will not open.
I have tried uninstalling, registry cleaners, running as administrator, using compatibility mode, etc. I have tried virtually everything listed on these forums and nothing has worked.
iTunes.exe will run under Processes in Task Manager, but will never open.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is Apple planning on fixing this apparant bug in future releases?This problem is evidently extremely common, as there are many posts saying essentially the same thing about 7.3.1. I installed it and ran into a number of problems immediately, the least of which was that iTunes does not run. The UI appears, but never gets focus so does not respond to any mouse or KB events. There is no error message of any kind. Deleting the preferences files does nothing. Deep removal of all things iTunes (folders, leftover registry keys, etc.) followed by a clean reinstall does not change the situation.
Worse, 7.3.1 uses lots of CPU power (both cores >50% for seconds at a time) while doing exactly nothing. While I appreciate that Apple and Microsoft are dedicated to ensuring that no CPU is left unhammered, this is a bit much.
I have the same version as a clean (first time ever) iTunes install on an XP laptop, and that, so far, is benign. -
Pages died today. Just downloaded the latest update 2 days ago. Last night shutting down my very new MacBook Pro Retina, Pages stopped shut down. Today Pages will not open, all my Pages docs cannot open. Help please! Anybody have a fix?
You probably have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 in your Applications folder, will open Pages '09 files but will alter/damage them. It can not open Pages '08 files.
Pages '08/'09 in your Applications/iWork folder which can not open Pages 5 files.
When you were shutting down you probably had an unsaved document open.
You probably are opening the wrong versions of Pages to open the wrong document format.
Pages 5 has had over 90+ features removed.
Most users are going back to Pages 09 whilst Apple sorts this out.
