New phone - can't receive texts from iphones

Hi all. I've just bought a new phone (non iphone), I've followed the instructions to turn off imessage but I still cannot receive texts from anyone with an iphone. Does anyone know of anything else I can do? Thanks in advance

Not sure what "instructions" you followed, but see this:

LG G2 can't receive text msg from iPhone, any ideas?

        Dualregistered,
Yikes! I depend on text messages for my main communication. So I know how important it is to have them working. So with that being said, let's get to work. Did you just upgrade to the LG G2 from an iPhone? How long have you had this issue were you can't receive messages from iPhones? Also, are you able to send messages to these people that have iPhones and are they getting yours? Please keep me posted.

  • Disable iMessage as can't receive texts from iPhone users on new Android phone

I have done everything I can find online about this:
Deleted/unregistered the device from my profile
    Changed my password
Changed the number to 000000000 on my iPhone
Switched iMessage off on my iPhone
Deleted the device from my iCloud account.... HELP.
When I call apple I can't speak to someone it says I need to pay £25 as I do not have cover. Really?! Is there another number I can call? Any help appreciated. Will it work eventually? I have waited a week and still can't receive text messages from my husband on his iPhone. It's driving me mad! I love my new Android phone (LG G2) but this is so frustrating.

Hi zara343, I had a similar problem. I have a iphone and my daughter changed from iphone to android. We couldn't receive text messages to each other, she had no other problems with her other contacts, just mine. It was driving me crazy. My phone kept recognizing her android as an iphone. Yes I turned iMessage off and yes I could receive my daughters messages, but my two other daughters and a few friends had iPhones, so I didn't get their messages. My problem is now fixed, I tried to send a message to my daughter and it came up undelivered, so I pressed the red exclamation mark to the right of  the undelivered message and it gave me the option to try again, send as a text message or cancel. So I pressed send as a text message and my daughter received it, I tried again and message undelivered, so again I pressed the exclamation mark and went through the same process as before. I thought what a pain but did a third and now my iphone does not recognise her phone number as an iphone. So your husband would have to do this with his iphone and I am confident it will work, and me as an iphone user can keep iMessage switched on. Hope this helps.

  • I switched from an iPhone to a Droid and can't receive texts from iPhones now, help?

I switched from my iPhone 4s to a Droid and I do not have that phone anymore. I can not recieve texts from anyone with an iPhone and can not get in contact with my girlfriend or siblings now. I think their phones are trying to send their texts as iMessages to my phone that does not recieve iMessages. How can I just delete my Apple account and recieve texts again?

Sounds like you didn't turn of iMessage on your iPhone before making the switch.  If you registered your iPhone with Apple using a support profile, try going to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregistering it.  Also, try changing the password associated with the Apple ID that you were using for iMessage.

  • Upgraded from iphone 4 to galaxy S4 now I can't receive texts from iphone users. Verizon Store employees are useless

I wish I would have known how bad this problem is before I upgraded.  Verizon is very much aware of the problem but says its not their problem.  They sold me the phone fully knowing this problem existed and never mentioned a thing to me.  I am furious!  I've tried unregistering the phone, changing the password on iTunes, deleting the contact and re-entering it.  The only way I can get a text through on this phone is by turning off imessage before sending a message every time or sending it from a non-iPhone.

        Hi finsup317,
Let's get your text messages flowing! If you have access to your previous iPhone please ensure that it is connected to internet via WiFi so that changes will sync with you Apple ID. Now go to Settings>Messages>Move iMessage to off. If you have other Apple devices (iPad, iPod, etc.) registered to same Apple ID as your phone, you need to deactivate iMessage on all of them, otherwise your messages will continue to go to your Apple ID instead of your new phone.
If you do not have access to your previous iPhone go to http://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do Log in with your Apple ID and password. Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example). Click ‘Unregister’. You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again.
**Important ** by unregistering your iPhone from your Apple ID through the Apple site, it won’t have access to the App Store or content you’ve purchased unless you reregister it.

  • HT1349 Samsung phone is not receiving texts from iphone users

we switched from iphone to samsung galaxy and now we are not receiving text messages from some iphone users.  I think their phones still think we are iphones, and they're trying to send us imessages.  how do we disable the imessage association with our phone numbers?

If you still have the iPhone, use it to deactivate iMessage. Otherwise contact Apple.

  • Disabled iMessage, now can't receive texts from iPhone users.

My sister-in-law has been going over her data plan, and we determined that iMessgae has been playing a role in this. Even though iMessage provides free text messaging, it still uses data and my SIL took advantage of her unlimited texting plan back when it was sms. thoudands of messages.  So now that iMessage was introduced she has been going over her 2gb data limit.  iMessage is not the sole reason, but at 300-500 mb a month in message data. Reducing that will help.
I instructed her how to diaable iMessage so all texts are send and received as SMS/MMS. She can send sms messages fine, but when someone tries to respond from an iPhone with iMessage, she doesn't recieve them.  What do we need to do to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi dinumolo!
Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot this issue with your ability to receive SMS messages:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving SMS, follow these steps first
Go to Settings and turn airplane mode off.
Verify that you have a cellular network signal in the status bar at the top left of your iPhone. Learn more about troubleshooting no service if there's no signal.
    Restart your iPhone.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
    Reseat your SIM card.
If you are still unable to send or receive SMS, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact who's trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that you are using the area code with the contact's phone number. When sending messages internationally, you also need to use the contact's international code.
If using a "Pay as you go" SMS plan, it needs to have enough available balance. Contact your carrier if you're unsure of your SMS plan or the available balance.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact from the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your iPhone as new.
If your carrier has recently ported your phone number, the porting process may not be complete. Contact your carrier to confirm that the porting process is complete.
Contact your carrier to confirm that you are provisioned for sending SMS and are in an area with cellular coverage.
Contact your carrier to verify there are no blocks or filters placed on your wireless account preventing you from sending SMS.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Have a 5S w/ Sprint, can't receive texts from verizon non-iphones!

Ported a # as of 10/2 from Tmobile to the iphone 5s I received from Sprint.
Since then I can't receive texts from verizon non-iphones! They
can see my texts. Googling this, it seems like there's been issues
like this for other people. Can anyone advise as this is very bad!

SMS and MMS are carrier features. There is nothing you can do on your phone to fix this. It's either a problem with Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile. You've reported the problem to Sprint, that's all you can do. About the only other thing that could be done would be to have somone you know on Verizon who can't send messages to you open a ticket with Verizon.

  • Not receiving texts from iPhone contacts when I'm not connected to wifi or cell data. I can't send and receive regular SMS texts with non iMessage users but iMessage users message are not being converted to text when I don't have internet connect

I can send and receive to any non iPhone user. I can send a message as a text to an iPhone user but if I'm not connected to cellular data or wifi I do not receive messages from iPhone contacts. From what I understand these message should automatically send to me as texts instead of iMessages but since the update it's not functioning properly. Please help. I've tried turning iMessage off and I still don't receive the messages until after I reconnect to wifi.

I have the same problem! Before the upgrade, if I wasn't connected to the internet, any messages sent to me from an iphone would convert automatically to a text message. I have payg tarriff, so I turn cell data off, as it costs too much to use it. I have wifi at home and work, but if I'm out and about, I don't receive texts from iphone users until I'm on wifi. I get them ok from non iphone users. There was never any problem until ios7

  • Not receiving texts from iPhone users

I recently got a new Samsung Galaxy S4.  I registered this phone to a new number.... I did not port an existing number to the phone.  Since getting the phone, I have had trouble receiving texts from iphone users - their messages will not come through on my phone unless their imessage is turned off.  As you can imagine, this is quite a hassle - having to explain this problem every time I give someone my number, and several people having to change their settings every time they text me.
I've done research on this problem, and it seems that this happens when you port a number from an iphone to an android.  The problem is fixed when you update your apple id account, and delete the number from the imessage service.  I am concerned that my current number used to be registered to an iphone - and that the number is possibly still associated with an imessage account.  I have no way of changing this, so I'm stuck.
I understand that this may be a problem that only Apple can fix, but any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hello annaesharon, I know that receiving all of your text messages are important, indeed! Sorry to learn that you've been missing many of yours due to this. Thanks for reaching out to us - it's my pleasure to help.
The good news is that you are absolutely on the right track. The best way to take care of this is to ensure the phone number is un registered with Apple/iMessage. You mentioned that this is a brand new phone number for you, so we would also like the opportunity to check a few things on your line as well.  Do you receive any type of alert or error message when the iPhone text try to come through? Which application are you using, primarily, to send/receive text messages. Let us know! We want to help get to the bottom of this for you.

  • Still can't receive messages from Iphone Users

    Greetings,
I know there are many topics asking similar questions if it's googled, and I think I have read through almost all of them to no prevail. I know veterans of these boards probably get tired of seeing the same topics, but im desperate and will try to keep it quick. I really appreciate any help.
I recently upgraded from a 4S to a Galaxy S5 and have not been able to receive messages from Iphone users since. I still have my old Iphone. Here are the steps I've tried:
    1) Ensure "IMessage" is disabled in my old phone
    2) Unregistered my phone number with my Apple ID. I currently have no phone numbers registered with them
    3) Changed my Apple ID Password
    4) Unregistered my Iphone with my ITunes Account.
    5) I also have a Macbook Air and a 2010 model IMac. I have also ensured I am signed out on those devices and my phone number isn't linked in anyway I could find.
    6) I called Apple 3 Days ago and the representitive was very nice and professional but ultimately was incorrect. He advised me that the new IoS7 is more advanced and should check about every 12 hours to see if the user on the other end has an active IMessage account. He said to wait 24 hours just to be safe. He also advised people running older IOS systems could take up to 3-4 days to contact me correctly. Furthermore he said if after that time frame their phones still sent me IMessages instead of SMS then THEY were having problems and should call Apple. I just really doubt that is the case.
I have tested it out with 5 Iphones now with help from some friends, all running IOS7 and still no luck 3 days after the phone call to Apple.
    7) I tried logging back into IMessage today on my Macbook and it worked, I was still able to send and receive texts from Iphone users. This seems like it should not be possible since it is not linked to my phone number anymore. It is logged into the same Email that I used to have linked to my phone number.
Now as others have said, If I have them hold down the bubble and send as text message 3 times their phone will remember and keep sending my texts, however that is unreasonable to ask everyone to do. There should just be a way to completely delete your Apple ID. Is there anything I'm possibly overlooking? I really appreciate any help.

I am right there with you. This describes my problem to a T. Only other issue I am having is group texts. Iphone users who include me in a group text still send as imessages as well, so even if I text them first and they reply, it send as an imessage. Get it together apple.

  • HT201269 how do i unregister my iphone? I have the galaxy s4 now and cannot receive texts from iphone users.

How do i unregister my old Iphone, i no longer have it in my possesion. I now have the galaxy s4 and cannot receive texts from iphone users

    Hello AnnH2
If you have access you your old iPhone, just sign out of Messages. If you do not have access to it, then change your Apple ID password.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
    Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • Can't recieve texts from iphones after resetting iphone 4

I had to reset my iphone 4 (ios 6) over the weekend. Now my phone won't recieve texts from iphones. It does recieve them from other devices. I think it may be an imessage problem since I can't reset that as I'm unable to recieve the necessary text! Any ideas?

i had the same issue.  what worked for me, and hopefully for you, is that my iphone friends still had my number listed in their contacts as an iphone.  Once they changed it to just mobile i started getting their messages.  They also went into their messaging settings and checked the box that says to send a SMS message when imessage is unavailable.  i'm not sure if this is a universal setting or if it can be changed per contact.  i'm not sure which of the above did the trick, maybe the both in tandem, but i haven't had a problem since.  unfortunately, you won't know if there's a problem until you get an angry call from an iphone user whose texts you are "ignoring."  i hope this helps
