Hello Srm8,
It sounds like you are not getting your iMessages to come to your computer. I recommend checking the You can be reached for messages at: settings in the messges preferences with this info:
Messages (Mountain Lion): Fix iMessage issues
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12065
List all of the email addresses in the “You can be reached for messages at” list. You can find this list by choosing Messages > Preferences, and then selecting iMessage in the Accounts pane.Check your email at all addresses marked as “Validating.” Click the Verify Now link in the verification emails you receive.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I would like to know if "Restore Backup" to my new phone will load up all the information I have which backed up from my other phone. I only "clicked" on "Backup" when I connected the new phone to my computer. I was afraid to click on "Restore Backup" to have all the other information I had from my other iPhone load up to my new iPhone. Hope you can help. What is the difference between "Backup" and "Restore Backup"; is all that different from synching.Thanks. Ana

That's up to you. Do you want the data on your old phone on your new phone? If so, you follow the directions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
If you want to setup your new phone as a new device, then there is nothing you need to do.

  • I got a new iPhone, and entered all my new information, but when i plugged my new phone into my computer weeks later it synced all my old information onto my new phone. any way of getting my new information back?

I got a new iphone and entered all my new information, but when i plugged my new phone into the computer with all my old information, it synced that information onto my new phone. is there any way to reverse it?

While that may work9I do not think it will) with iTunes purchased music it will not work for other music.
    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you will need a third-party program like one of those discussed here.
    Copy music

  • Please help...syncing my new phone to my computer and it is not working!

I bought a new iPhone today...The phone is set up on itunes on my laptop which is really crappy...I want to set it up on my desktop computer but when i hook it up, it says someone elses phone is synced with the library...Is there a way to delete the old library so I can sync my new phone to it? Please and thank you!

    Welcome to the discussions,
every time you change your computer/iTunes library, the new iTunes will erase the content on your device and replace it with the content of the new library.
To save your data, apps and other media, perform a manual backup before you sync. Here's how to:
Set up your iTunes account on your new PC, disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • HELP! i was trying to get pics from my newer phone onto my computer for a project. i accidentally restored my old iphone and lost all the pictures, texts, from my newer one. can this be fixed? please say yes :(

    please someone help me!

You need to check if a back up was made of your new phone when the content that has now gone missing was on their.
Also if you used iCloud you could check if there was a back up made on there and it should have pictures from camera roll if they were on there when the back up was made. Also you could check photostream if you used it and see if the photos are on there aswel.
    hope this helps

  • New phone... having issues??

ok... have had the phone for a couple months. bought the otter box with it but the problems started close to two weeks of having the phone?!?
i have had the ipod play feature where the slide/play/skip buttons are visible on the home screen... I WASN'T USING THE IPOD?!?! it just showed up?!?!
i have had the keyboard get stuck on the home screen for no reason?!?!
i have had the 3G get stuck to where I could not get connected nor could I get the darn thing to turn off and go to EDGE?!?!
I have had the wireless icon appear even with the wireless turned off??
I have almost all of these as pictures by taking a snapshot of the screen... i am in the apple store now but the first thing they do is look at the dang water indicator?!?! I paid $50 friggin' bucks for the otter box to protect it, and it has!
so anyone else have similar issues? I have tried to restore and it still acts up!??! every now and then... even had it stick on a black screen while i was in a call and couldn't get it to go to the home screen?!!? i have had to hard boot the thing a few times to get back into the phone... kind of ridiculous with a $200 phone?!?!
    thanks.

If you are using the Apple headset, if you push the main button (it's the one that hangs up the phone) when not on a call, it goes into the iPod mode.
As for your other questions, I can't even begin to answer them. Apple doesn't have anything to do with the Otterbox, so if there's water damage, your issue is with them not Apple. I'm sure a genius at the Apple Store will either give you a new iPhone, or show you how to handle the issues.

  • Problem transferring old iPhone 3GS to new phone 5S using computer.  The iMac which I've been using to back up 3GS for years does not seem to recognize the 5S.  No setup assist is coming on screen so I can't begin the transfer.  Any ideas for this?

Problem tranferring old iPhone 3GS (ios 6.1.6) to new iPhone 5S (ios 8.1.2) through iTunes on my iMac computer  (OSX 10.5.8) . I have backed up the 3GS this way since purchase of 3GS.  The computer does not seem to recognize the 5S is there -- no setup assist is appearing on screen. Any ideas welcome.

this may not be your problem my according to the tech specs on apple.com the 5s requires:

  • New phone - iMessage and Facetime not working with number?

I had a 4s and recently got a 5s, and now iMessage on my Mac only has my email as an option. My phone number is the same. I searched around for a solution, and one involved signing out and back into both iMessage and Facetime on my Mac, so I did, and now Facetime has the same problem. I really do not want to log into my Apple ID in iMessages on my phone because I tried that a few days ago and had all kinds of problems with sending and receiving messages. Currently, my phone is sending and receiving with my phone number, which is checked but also grayed out in Settings. I am running OS X 10.8.3. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like you did the first part of the following. Thus it seems yo have to try the second parts evenought you do not want o signout on the iPhone
Phone number missing on OS X
If your phone number isn't listed on your Mac, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of OS X on your Mac.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
Sign out of your Apple ID at these locations on your Mac:
Messages > Preferences > Accounts tab. Click iMessage in the left column, then click Sign Out.
FaceTime > Preferences. Select your Apple ID, then click Sign Out.
Close FaceTime and Messages on your Mac.
Open FaceTime and Messages, then sign in to your Apple ID in Preferences.
If your phone number still isn't listed on your Mac, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign out of your Apple ID on your Mac at the following locations:
Messages > Preferences > Accounts tab. Click iMessage in the left column, then click Sign Out.
FaceTime > Preferences. Select your Apple ID, then click Sign Out.
Close FaceTime and Messages on your Mac.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and also in Settings > FaceTime.
Open FaceTime and iMessage, then sign in to your Apple ID in Preferences.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

  • I did not sync music properly to computer from iphone3.  have new iphone4.  how can i get music off old phone onto new one.  new phone all set up.  help

I did not sync my iphone3 music to my computer.  Thought I did it properly but did not.  New at this stuff.  Now my IT person installed and configured my new iphone4 and my music is on old phone.  Anyway to get it to new phone.  Help.:)

Set up your new phone as if it were the old one. Settings, mail, mobile me, same email same password that you used on old phone. You can still sync the old phone to iTunes library. You may have to click on picture of phone on the left & click on back up iPhone.  You'll see songs, contacts & calendar downloading in apple slot at the top. When done connect new phone. Authorize computer put in apple ID when that screen comes up & that should allow both phones to share the library. If you use the same ID the same information will be on both phones.

  • New phone was reset to old phone settings...

I recently got a new iPhone and when I plugged the new phone into my computer to load my itunes, the new phone was reset to my old phone's settings (photos, contacts, etc) Now I cannot find any of the photos and other info that was on my new phone?

    Hi shelly92555,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on your current situation. If you are saying that you are unable to unlock the original iPhone due to a passcode issue, you may find the following article helpful:

  • HT5622 I recenHey im getting my ankle monitor taken off on Friday and we are gonna go celebrate at vaqutly got a new iPhone 5c and backed up my info on iCloud. I got all my info on the new phone but it says that there is no more space on iCloud. What shou

I recently got a new iPhone, I backed up all my info on iCloud, I wAs able to get all my info on my new iPhone but now it's saying that there is no more iCloud space, what do I do

Either purchase additional iCloud space or turn off iCloud backup and backup you new phone with a computer running iTunes.

  • I restored my data from iCloud on my new phone, but now there's no room to back up to iCloud again. How do I merge past back ups, and what's currently on my phone?

I had to get a new iPhone 4s, because my old one stopped connecting to wifi. The option was "greyed out." I restored my new iphone from what was most recently backed up to my iCloud. I am trying to get my new iPhone to back up to iCloud but it is saying I cannot because there isnt' enough room. My back up I used to restore was 4.1 of the 5 GB allowed in iCloud. Is there a way to merge these so that I can start having this phone automatically back up to iCloud like my old one was? I've been trying to delete that back up, but I can't because "it is in use." Is there a way to fix this or am I just stuck having to remember to back my iPhone up to iTunes every once in a while?

You can't merge the backups, you'll have to delete the backup of your old phone.  If it says it's currently in use when you try, that will normally clear up on its own but may take 3-5 days to do so.  Give it a few days and try deleting the old backup again.
In the meantime, you can create a manual backup of your new phone on your computer by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, clicking on the name of your phone in iTuens, going to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and clicking Back Up Now.  Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Then you'll be safe until you can start backup up to iCloud again.

  • HT201302 transfer photos and apps to new phone

so i activated my new iphone 5 today and seem to be having a problem. After i backed my old iphone 4 information to my computer i plugged in my new phone transfer all content over. The only thing that transferred were the contacts! is this normal? all of my pictures, apps, and content are not showing. I contacted apple and they basically told me to go in itunes under edit and preferences and check some boxes whih i have done. However, when i am connecting the new phone to to computer it still doesn't want to sink the content?

@Balairo, what make/model phone did you have? Some devices have a memory card that you can transfer from the old phone to insurance replacement phone. I apologize that if the screen is non functional, there is no other additional option other than connecting it to a computer to upload your pictures to a PC. I hope this information is helpful to you. ^LH
