New Phone - Old User

I'm a grandmother who just purchased a Samsung Fascinate.  I'm doing pretty well for "old school" but when I come to learning, I'm so much better off having a manual.  Is there one available for this phone?  For example, where can I find out how to change Contact information?  How do I initiate an email (I can receive them and respond).  I know these are very basic things to most of you, but not to me.  Any help  out there?

Oh and by the way, for some quick tips on how to get things rolling with your phone, I found a site that was a little helpful.  Try visiting www.new-samsung.phones.com/samsung-fascinate and then go through some of the things there to help you get a feel for moving around on your new phone.
Its a good phone and if you just got it, do all you can to personalize the things you want or need, so if you do find out things don't work like maybe they should you can trade in or get help and so on.  They only give you 30 days to return it.  It is an electronic device and not everyone comes out of the box just perfect.  It's a great phone though.
www.androidcentral .com has helpful info about the android operating system this phone uses and I hear www.appbrain.com is a good place to visit also.  I will friend you on here in case you more help.  I am learning too and it's allot of fun.

  • HT5824 cannot login to icloud on phone, old user id causing problems

Help, I have an old user id that was backed up onto my computer. I got a new iphone 5s and restored from computer instead of from icloud. Now i can't sign into icloud on my new phone and cannot turn off "Find iphone". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have gone to the icloud.com web site there is no trace of the old user id.
That sounds as though it's the same account with a changed address. If so...
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

Now I have a new administrator account with a blank desktop and I can see my old user account in Finder/Users, but I don't see it in System Prefs/Accounts. Reading up on this, I understand I need to do some renaming to recover my settings for Safari, Mail, etc.

I'm not clear on what to rename though. Do I want to rename the new administrator account with the old user name or rename the old user name with the new admin name?

I suggest you create a backup administrator id on the system that you are changing!!!

This procedure seems correct as far as to go. The author assumes that the GUID and UID are the same. You need to verify this.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16620
I am not sure this procedure is what you need.
I'm not clear on what to rename though. Do I want to rename the new administrator account with the old user name or rename the old user name with the new admin name?
There seems to be two ways to proceed.
Assigned your old administrator data to your new administrator. To do this, you would rename your new administrator directory to something else then rename your old administrator directory to what ever you selected for the new administrator directory name. You would then verify the Group ID and the user ID.
Or, renamed your old administrator directory. Create a new administrator with the same names as your old administrator was. You can either follow the steps above or copy the data from the old directory to the new with the Finder. Hold down the option key in the Finder to be sure that you are copying the data.
Mac OS X: How to change user short name or home directory name
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106824
    This is tricky stuff.
You need to change these things:
    1) Your account information
    2) All of your files & folders
One way to change what uid and gid are defined for your account is theNetInfo Manager application. This doesn't change the UID & GID on your files and folders.
    Mac OS X ... harddrive -> Applications -> Utilities -> NetInfo Manager
In the middle column is the function. Pick users then select your user. Click on the lock at the bottom of the panel. Go into the property list and change UID and GID."
    sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464 {} \;
    sudo find -x / -group 20 -exec chgrp 211 {} \;
#combined change of uid & gid
    sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464:211 {} \;
There are two generally used schemes for assigning a group to a user:
    1) Assign all users to a common group like staff.
    2) Assign each user to their own group. A user like test would be in group test.
Mac OS uses method 1 in 10.2 and method 2 in 10.4.
You should not have multiple users assigned to the same uid. My worry is that if you are only change in the 50x range, you could run into a conflict.
Your best bet is to change to a high number like 5464 on all of your accounts.
On Mac OS, there are a few files that have the old uid as part of their names. The .Trashes file will be on your removal media and maybe everywhere.
    /.Trashes/501
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.501
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.sbdl.501
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.user501pictureCache.tiff
    Here are some terminal commands:
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    cd /Applications
    Your current user is:
    echo $USER
    Let's assume myuser
To find out your UID and GID do:
    cd ~
    ls -ln
    ls -l
Or, you can use the id command.
    id
compare the output and write down what you find.
You best use the numeric value for your userid. In this case it is 500. To list all the files owned by a userid do:
    sudo find / -user 500 -exec ls {} \;
#And you need to do this from an administrator id.
/* adding a -x before the / limits the search to the current file system. *
    # To stop the display press control-c
    sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 5464 {} \;
#And you need to do this from an administrator id.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • HT4623 new phone old iOS PREVENTING RESTORE

Hi, I've just purchased a new iPhone 6, I recently backed up my old phone using iOS 8.1.1. Now trying to set up my new phone and it cannot restore these backups as new phone is running 8.0.2 ... How can I get round this please  .

Set up your iPhone 6 as a new device, without using a backup.  Then update it to iOS 8.1.1 as explained here: Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support.  After updating, erase it (Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings), then go through the setup screens again.  This time you'll be able to restore the backup to it.  More on restoring an iCloud backup: iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud.

Which phone you have ? You must have saved all the contacts in phone memory of the old phone. That is the reason you dont see the contacts in the new phone.
    You can do:
    1) Insert the SIM card in the old phone . Take a backup of the old phone using PC suite.
    2) Transfer the SIM to the new phone and restore the backup.
You should be able see all the data of the old phone including Images, video clips, contacts, messages.

  • New Computer old user Information

I was just given a Mac G3 Tower. And I am Trying to find out how to get rid of all the old user information. I am completely new to Macs. And going through the help menu is driving me insane.
    Thanks

    kingjoelking:
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the wonderful world of Mac computing.
    You have two options:
    1. If you have the Panther install disks the best way to get rid of everything is to completely reformat and erase the HDD, then reinstall Panther. You will have a clean HDD and a fresh OS installation. Please post back for directions.
    2. If you have the Admin User password you can create a new admin account, log into the new account, then delete the old user Account. Here's how:
    - Boot computer and log in
    - Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts
    - Click on lock, and authenticate with Password
    - Click the plus at the bottom of the list of Accounts to create new account.
    - Set up Account Name, password etc. Be sure you have a password you can remember.
    - Check box to allow user to administer computer.
    - Go to Apple menu and select log out user at bottom of drop down menu.
    - Log into the new user account just created.
    - Select old user Account in list
    - Click minus sign to delete account.
    - Choose to delete account and accompanying data.
You now have your own user account, password, and the old User Account and associated data is no more.
Please do post back should you have further questions or comments.
    Cheers

  • New phone old #s

how do i get the # in my phone to save in my CPU???
I'm going to get a new iPhone and have over 30#s and want to know how to save them in my CPU...

Did you mean you have an old phone (not an iPhone) and what the numbers on your PC so when you get the iPhone you can sync them?
If so, well that just depends on your old phone and what capabilities it has. For example, The RAZR (and most of the rest of Motorola phones that use USB connector for charging) have softwware available to backup data to their software with option to export to CSV file (which and then be imported into Outlook, which then the iPhone can sync to.)
So sort answer, really depends on what type of phone you have as your old phone.

  • Restore from ios 7.1.2 to ios 7 - new phone old ios?

I am trying to Restore from back up to a brand new iPhone 5c - my iPhone 4 was on ios 7.1.2 and as my new iPhone 5c has ios 7 I am unable to restore from back up (current phone) - How annoying!! Any suggestions please?

You'll have to update the 5C to 7.1.2 (Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) as restoring a backup made on a more recent version of iOS is not supported.  After updating, you can restore the backup as explained here: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

  • New phone/old iOS?

    Hello!
In anticipation of upgrading from my 4S at some point, and unhappy with many visual elements of iOS7 (as it appears now), I'm wondering if it's possible to install iOS5 or iOS6 on an iPhone 5.  I'm currently running iOS5.1.1 (and am very happy with it, thank you very much). Is the OS backed up along with the phone's content, allowing a transfer/restore of both the content and the iOS?  Or are older iOS's available in some other way?
    Thanks,
    David

iOS 7 has not been released yet and will not be until sometime this fall. All new iPhones sold as of right now and for the next couple of months at least will come with iOS 6.
Downgrading versions of iOS is not supported on any iPhone, so in the future when phones start shipping with iOS 7, it will not be possible to downgrade the phone to iOS 6, not officially, anyway. There are hacks that in some cases allow downgrading but if problems arise you're on your own.
    Regards.

  • New phone old data. can i recover new stuff?

i lost my i3g. got a 4gs used it to take pics for work. when i got home i sinced it as new device. then i realized it wiped out the photos i took recently and installed the old ones. Is there any way to recover the ones i took?please help. thank you

I think you should use iPhone photos and contacts recovery software to get them back.
Follow the 'Recover Lost contacts from iTunes backup files' steps:
    1. Run iPhone Data Recovery for iOS.
    2. Choose“Recover from iTunes Backup File”.
    3. Start to scan your iTunes backup file for lost data on it. Please click “Start Scan” to begin scanning it.
    4. After the scan, you can preview all data found on your device(eg. iPhone 4s) in the scan result. Click the categories on the left side of the window like camera roll, contacts, messages, etc. You can preview all the details of them (except for videos). Mark what you want and click “Recover” to save them on your computer with one click.
You can try to recover lost contacts from iPhone directly if the above way does not work.

  • New member - old user  ? about CS3

I friend decided he no longer wanted to use Photoshop 7, so he gave me his copy. ::grin::
Knowing that I had a limited amount of time to ride an upgrade on the back of Photoshop 7, I ordered the upgrade of CS3.
When the product arrived, I saw no indication of it being an upgrade. I believe they sent me the full version of CS3. Very powerful and stable version, I might add...packed with features I'd never dreamed were possible.
I can understand why they would have sent the full copy. It's outdated. They need to sell it. The stock of photos is no longer available. Not to worry. I take my own pictures.
How can I know for sure that the copy of CS3 I have is an upgrade? I already had Photoshop 7 installed on the computer at the time of installing CS3, but I didn't see any sign of the installation pausing to search for a formerly installed version.
    thx

I haven't had much time to actually sit down and look at all the features, but I could have used the vanishing point before Christmas when I was trying to copy, skew, and line up patterns to make Christmas presents for my Christmas cards.
I still haven't figured out what the color replacement brush does, but I'll get it. Something tells me that it would be easier for me to use the same method as usual, by inverting an adjustment layer and coloring in the area I want to color, or hue or saturate.
The filters window is the best feature, so far, but, I haven't really played with it.
I've been looking for tuts (that's not a typo), but I don't have the patience to sit through a video. What ever happened to the simple step by step written tuts that you can skip through the steps you already know?
Any helpful links for written tuts will be helpful to me. Or, a link TO a page of links.

  • How do I create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user

This is why I think I need to.
My computer got hit by lightening, and I may have created a new user account through netinfo rather than system preferences /accounts/+user. Mail used to open twice, but no longer. Now, Safari askes me for my keychain password twice, Spotlight can't find a folder on the computer when the search is restricted to folder and computer, though the folder is there and easyfind finds it, and when System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy has the hard drive icon added, then deleted, Spotlight still does not find anything. (Yes, everything is backed up, on CD, DVD, and online.) Microsoft Tec Support says
"Here is a summary of the key points of the case for your records.
When you contacted us on August 8, you had requested assistance with Microsoft Office 2004, as your installation of the updates was unable to find the correct version of the software to update. After creating a New MAC User, we identified the issue to be with a corrupt MAC User account, and not a Microsoft issue. "
I believe Microsoft. So, creating a new user was easy.
But copying files uses up too much hard drive (movies, music), and may miss keychains, preferences, mail, address book, and documents. Since Spotlight no longer works, who knows what is happening. (Yes, I've repaired persmissions, and disk repair. No change). I'm using up my hard drive trying to move files to the new user. If I share files, or put them into a public folder, then delete the old user, will I still have the old user's files in the new user's account? It is not clear to me what I should be trying to do in order to create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user. Thanks.
My responses will be slow, because I have to drive to town to use the internet. I've ordered a new airport which may take care of that problem. SO be patient.

    Hey -
I need to do the EXACT same thing, but have no idea how. Has anyone out there done this?
My situation is a tad different..this is a new Mac (and I'm a brand new Mac user). Tons of querks occur under my original account (videos won't run, Safari won't support certain plug-ins). I spent 6 hours on the phone w/ 4 different Apple Reps and nobody could fix it. A rep finally looked at my MacBook Pro in person today. He created a new account just to see if that would work and under that new account, everything works perfectly fine (no querks, can view video). He tried switching a million settings in my original account to no avail.
He said to create a new account (as he did) and move my files over to the new account and then go back to the original and delete it. How do you do this?! I can't figure it out! I've got a new account created, but of course it just has the default folders in it w/ the little red icons next to them! Thanks in advance!
