New phone today, texts dont work

Question

im not sure if they set my phone up wrong or what but i had a old alltell phone and went in today to get a new phone before they shut mine off. my texts worked on the old phone. got the droid 4 today and left the store got home and tried to text and it said failed, had someone text me and they said it said failed on there phone also when they try to text me.
also looking under setting it says 
networrk unknown
mobile network state disconnected
also my phone number and min is different, im not sure if there suppose to match. i also read somewhere that if your phone number has the dashes in it that the texts wont work, min is listed as  xxx-xxx-xxxx instead of xxxxxxxxxx
is there something i should change to get the texts to work, or is something not working right at the company end. the person working with me kind of seemed new and maybe didnt know what she was doing.

Do you still have an Alltel plan?
What phone did you get? If an HTC device, I may be able to help ya out
I had this issue when I had to do a master reset years ago on my Incredible. All the Alltel info did not populate back and no one could help. I ended up looking at my prior phones internal settings and manually entering the info and all went well.
In fact as of yesterday, I was losing my data connection and looked at the settings in my TB, and one area had the settings with all zeros when it should be my phone number. Corrected it and all is well again.
As for the phone number and MIN being different, that is not unusual.
