New pole installation and costs?

Dear all,
Can anyone advise me as to how much BT charge to install a pole to carry a land line? Further, what is the preferred distance between poles?
We are selling our current house and renovating the stable block, that we also own, next door. The trouble is that there is no physical line there at the moment - we will have to have one installed.
How much do/should BT charge to install a new pole? The one that feeds the current house is about 40m (as the crow flies) from the entrance to the new property, the easiest point to give access to the new building. (The line will have to cross our current/soon-to-be-former property so the new owners will have to get used to that I think). Is this distance too far to keep the tension in the wire? Would I need a second pole installed - not impossible but would impinge upon access to the property slightly. Would it be cheaper to have a new line 'moled' underground, done at the same time as the drainage is installed?
Also, we want to keep the same telephone number (have had it for 23 years) but even that is causing minor problems!
I spoke to the (very helpful) lady at the "house move" section of the helpdesk who said that:
(a) if we want to keep the old number we MUST have a physical line to re-assign the number to, otherwise the new owners will not be able to have a new number assigned to them
(b) as this is not the case, we could have the BT messaging service take our calls but this will only last for three months and is not extendable - I doubt whether we can be in a position to start work on the new property by then, never mind be in a position to have a BT land line connected.
(c) I wanted to be able to re-direct the land line calls to our number redirected to a mobile (possible via one of the items on offer in the list of packages available for land lines). However, this is not possible due to (a) aboveas you must have a physical line for this to happen (apparently)
(d) If we do not have a physical line OR have our messaging service expire after the three month period, our number is given back to BT Wholesale who will re-assign it as 'available' for anyone else to have. I have been told that there is no way of 'reserving' our number so that it is kept for us.
Why can't I simply keep my number 'at the exchange' (non-technical) and the system simply redirects the telephone call to a mobile whilst not physically having a line, and I simply tell them that I want my line established and reconnected when I am ready?
Got distracted there but I thought that I would get all the details off my chest.
I have had absolutely exceptional service from BT in the past ( one of the reasons why I wouldn't consider switching my line rental etc. to another supplier, even though it may be cheaper) but there are one or two minor irritations that could be sorted out here as I am sure that this situation must have occurred somewhere before.
Any comments most welcome

Hi Gsd4me,
Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum.
It is impossible for me or any one else in BT to tell you how much it will cost to get a new line installed at a newly built property, without having the site surveyed by Openreach.  The process here is, you would place an order to have the line installed at the address of the new property.  Once the order is placed we would then be able to book an engineers appointment.
The engineer will come out to the site on the agreed date and then carry out a survey to ascertain what work needs to be carried out.  Openreach will decide on the best and most efficient way to get service to your new property, if they are able to use the existing pole then that is what they will do, however you will not know until the survey has been carried out.
Once Openreach have surveyed the site then they will let you know the cost of the job.  You can then decide if you want to go ahead with this installation.
I understand that you are trying to keep your telephone number.  The advise you have been given is sound.  You can only keep your number if you have a line to transfer it to.  BT Retail do not own the telephone numbers, we get numbers assigned to use from the pool of available numbers by Wholesale.
Once you cancel your service your telephone number will be added back to the general pool of available numbers, this then becomes available to any of the service providers that use the Wholesale network.  Unfortunately there is no way around this, we have no way of keeping a telephone number without it being active on a telephone line.  We simply do not own the number.
I hope this information has helped.  Any more question please drop me a reply.
Cheers
Sean

I am from Kolkata and when I called the Service centres here, i got crazy answers.
One said buy a new Iphone as we dont sell batteries.
other said We dont know the price exactly, come to our service centre and we shall then tell you ( heard its about 5000 rupees! )

I understand that a new battery can be very expensive but can I ask if you have tried re-calibrating your battery to make sure that it is truly needing replacement?
You can do this by running your battery down so low that the iPhone switches off by itself. Then, preferably with the iPhone off, charge the battery up to full.  Doing this might improve the performance of your current battery.
Also, are you aware that iPhone (and many other smart device batteries) do not last particularly long anyway, when you are using your iPhone a lot (especially when the display is on).

    Hello,
You can create a new work center by copying an existing work center. in the cr01 screen in the copy from column put the plant name and Ref. work center name and put enter. all the existing data will be copied to the newly created work center. no need to create new assignment to  Production Scheduller and Cost Center.
    Hope it helps.

  • I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why

I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
    must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
    home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
    because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
    a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
    the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
    the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
    Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
    And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
    /usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
    says :
    platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
    that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
    from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
    able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
    from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
    of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
    2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
    Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
    Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
    to install
    using the minimal install.
    3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
    available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
    not have
    enough space.
    4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
    database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
    stuff under
    /mnt/cdrom
    5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
    points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
    specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
    6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
    options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.

My sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
    the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
    1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
    can't find it.
    2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
    dbmssml.sql.
    3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
    agent
    4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
    5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
    in 12 years.

  • Contents of new costing variant, valuation variant and costing sheet not getting transported

In our development client,I have created a new costing variant, a new valuation variant and a new costing sheet in separate transports.
When I release the transports to move into the Test client, the contents of the configuration are not getting transported at all.
I tried to do them again manually using  Table view - Transport , but again, if I view the transports in SE10,they don't show the table contents, etc.
Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

    Ajay,
Let me make sure I understand.
Create a new TR using SE01
Go to transaction OKKN (costing variant)
Select the costing variant and then choose Table view - transport
    Provide the transport number
At what point to I say 'include in request'
If I try to use the menu option Edit-Transport-Include in request in the beginning itself, the 'Include in request' is greyed out.

  • Transfer Songs from Ipod to New Computer and New Itunes Installation

    Hi,
I want to transfer songs on my Ipod to a new installation of Itunes on a new computer. I get a message that my Ipod is synced to another library and that I can only be synced to one library and that my ipod will be erased and synced to the currently libary. The problem is my current library is empty since it's a new itunes installtion and I don't want to erase my ipod and delete all my songs.
So how do I transfer songs from my ipod to the new itunes installation on my new computer?
    Thanks for any replies.

I think I've read in a post before that you can't do it that way. That you can only transfer music from the computer to the iPod, and not the other way around. I believe they suggested backing up your library (to disk, I guess) and installing it on the new computer. Something like that. It seems silly that the transfer only works one way, but there you are.

ok.  I hope someone can answer my question.  I am new to photoshop.  I need version cs4 in order to work with a designer and printer on some logo work. I've tried to download it but it just gives me individual files with no installer and nothing - including the adobe "instructions" seems to work.  How can i get this software in a downloadable format? is it actually free - I'm assuming it is...  Hope someone knows the answer to these questions...

The download itself is free and is valid for 30 days only.  After that, the software ceases to work.
CS4 is pretty old, no longer sold and no longer supported by Adobe.  It's also not compatible with many modern OSes.
Why do you have to work with such an obsolete version of Photoshop?
What kind of "designer" uses it?

  • Installing Leopard on new iMac, installation just goes on and on...

    Hi there!
Just bought a new iMac 24" with OS X 10.4 installed. I ordered the Leopard upgrade and installed it today, and experienced the already documented problem where login password is seemingly accepted but after a few seconds the login window appears again. Recommended solution was to "Archive and Install installation (and select Preserve Users and Network Settings)". I did that, and have now been staring the installation screen for six hours... surely it doesn't take that long to re-install? Installation process started just fine, but after that, no progress. What could I try next? I tried searching the forum and all I found was that one shouldn't interrupt installation process or it would screw things up, so I'm a bit baffled what to do next. Thanks for any thoughts!
