New Portal instance

Hi.
I want to create a second portal instance on the same 9iAS. I begun the process with OPCA. After ask for the schema's names it's shows a warning about reinstall OWA packages, and then some questions arises:
Q.1 We have 3.0.9.8.4 patch applied. Are going these cummulative patches to be lost?
Q.2 The date field from files in \admin\plsql\owa\ and others subdirs, shows that these files have not been overwritten by that patch. It's that correct?

Hi Jeff,
If you've got everything installed and you're able to access the Portal Page http://<hostname.domain>:<port>/pls/portal. Login as portal/<ias_admin> password, you should be good to go unless I've misinterpreted your question. Once you'v downloaded and configured the Middle-tier and the Infrastructure, and you have certain components running through the EMWebsite <http://hostname.domain:1810>(username=ias_admin, password=<ias_admin password>, you should be good to go. Please look at OTN=>Documentation => Oracle9iAS. Alterntativley, please repost to this forum.
Thanks,

  • How to add a new Portal instance in 10.1.2

    In previous versions of AS,were able to create new portal instances by running the portal configuration assistant like this:
    ptlasst -mode PORTAL -s <portal_schema_to_create> -c <db_conn> -p <password> -demo –report
    it was possible to have several independent portal schemas in one database, and it doesn't matter if it was the infrastructure database or a custom database. In this new release of AS (10.1.2.0.2) i didn't see anything in the documentation that refers this, i know that ptlasst was replaced by ptlconfig, but ptlconfig does not have any option like that one, or at least not that simple (with a little effort i was able to see what were the commands that repca executes to create a new portal, and changing them and executing them agaim i was able to create new portal schemas, but i dont believe that this is the rigth way to do it, its too hard).
    Does anyone now if its possible to add new portal instances in the same database in AS10.1.2.0.2?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tony Cruz

    You may want to refer to the Oracle Application Server Installation Guide for more information. Chapter 6, "Installing OracleAS Infrastructure" provides information about creating a new Metadata Repository in an existing database and in a new database.
    To access the installation guide, go to the Oracle Application Server Documentation page on OTN:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver.html
    Under the 'Release Notes, Installation, and Upgrade Documentation' section, click 'View Library' for the platform on which you are performing the installation.

  • Sharing TREX indexes between portal instances

    Hi people,
    We created several TREX search indexes in our development portal and we need to reuse them in our productive environment.
    As I read in Migrating Content, changing namespace I understand that the indexes cannot be transported between portal instances.
    My question is: Is there any way to access existing TREX indexes in new portal instances ?
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel,
    of course you can use the same TREX server from two different portals.
    I assume though, that the issue will be, that the resource IDs and subsequently access URLs will not be the same on the two portals. Or that, for other reasons, you will not be able to ensure abolute synchronicity of KM content in the two portals.
    => Cannot use same index for not exactly same content...
    Regards, Karsten
    PS: In this rough context, please also have a look at the linked thread and at the text below, concerning TREX use by totally different apps.
    TRex index_service
    When running several solutions against one TREX, currently you, in the project, have to ensure the following:
    - availability of a TREX Server release that is compatible to all the respective solution releases (check the PPMS or PAM entries of DMS, EP, SRM, etc.)
    - adequate sizing (see above link to distributed systems)
    - maintenance of the proper TREX address in all solutions
    AND MOST IMPORTATNTLY:
    Although TREX does offer index namespaces, most solutions do not address that yet and create indexes in one common directory on the TREX Server.
    Thus, if more than one of the solutions creates technical index names on the TREX Server that are likely to reoccur (e.g. "Test" is created on TREX Server with that directory name, rather than with some techID as directory name), you have to educate the future administrators/powerusers of the project to create only indexes that follow a naming conventiont to avoid index name conflicts (e.g. start all index names with solution prefix "DMS_...", "xRPM_...")
    Note:
    Using one TREX instance instead of several only provides "IT-side integration". It does not produce an information integration. Each solution will only search in its own indexes.
    An enterprise search over KM, ERP, BI and more will be offered with the SAP NetWeaver release <b>after</b> 2004s.

  • Problems crossing Portal instances

    We have 2 separate portal instances (intranet/extranet). The intranet iAS has a typical setup to the intranet portal node plus login server and 2 additional DADs pointing to the extranet portal node and its login server. The same is for the extranet iAS. So we can connect from each side through the IAS to the both portal nodes and their login servers.
    When the extranet iAS is connecting to the intranet portal node the user will produce an ORA 6510 (stale connection) and we have to restart the iAS. Did anyone already experience this problem?
    Next thing is that on the global settings page you can see the the login server settings and the "Query Path URL Prefix" contains strange values (Intranet portal contains extranet login server URL and vice versa). Can anyone explain the meaning of this field. What do we do if we have different login server URLs (more than one) depending on the portal url ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ved, thanks for your time.
    First, the version of 9iAS is Release 1.0.2.2.2a and Portal is 3.0.9.8.0.
    My Oracle Database is 8.1.7
    Second, it4s a new portal instance. It4s create when you install the 9iAS.
    Third, I view the Apache logs and found this:
    access_log
    "GET /pls/portal30/portal30.home HTTP/1.1" 503 423
    error_log
    [error] mod_plsql: /pls/portal30/portal30.home HTTP-403 ORA-1017 <B>Proxy log On failed.</B><BR>Please verify that you have specified correct connectivity information i.e. username, password & connect-string in the DAD

  • Moving entire portal instance to new database

    Does anyone have scripts for exporting/importing an entire portal instance? I'm moving my development database from Windows NT to a Sun box, and since I can't move the database directly I need to do a full portal export/import of all portal contents (pages, applications, content areas, etc.).
    Thanks in advance.
    Cecil...

    Hi Cecil,
    I have found the portal export/import routines to be a bit buggy. Try it with care. In moving from NT to Sun I have trusted the full database export/import and it worked out just fine.
    On the Sun database just drop all the portal users (including portal30, portal30_sso, etc.). Then do a full database import on the Sun from the NT export. An important final note is to run the "ssodatan.sh" script to point to your new server.
    Hope this helps.
    Bob Bob,
    Would you consider talking with me about this? I have a couple questions, like, if I'm moving to a new database then I won't have a PORTAL30 or PORTAL30_SSO to drop befoe the import, or do I install Portal into the new DB, then drop the users, then impoer, etc. If you can discuss this, please send contact info to [email protected]
    Thanks!

  • Javascript error when creating a new OC4J instance?

    Hi
    Im trying to deploy the documentum portlet, and a requirement was to install Ant, Java SDK....and i did
    after that...on my Application server machine (the portal), when i login to the enterprise manager to start a new OC4j instance, my browser shows a script error in the status bar in IE 6.0.
    it says: Object expected, ....and whenever i click "Create OC4j instance" the page is scrolled up to the top part of the page. so there is some kind of javascript error. how can i fix this? its stopping me from my development process.
    Your help is appreciated. thanks
    Faisal[b]

    On Windows this is caused most often by the temporary directory setting.
    Change the temporary directory to some fixed directory writable by anybody, e.g. "C:\temp".
    Change this in:
    Registry entry: hkey_local_machine\software\oracle\key_<oashome>\REPORTS_TMP
    <oashome>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml: search for environment variable TEMP (under ias-instance)
    Good luck!

  • Is there a way of making one portal instance serve several domain names ?

    We have one Portal instance (3.0.8) that contains one Intranet, one Extranet and 5 Internet sites (Page hierarchies). After redirecting calls to the diffrent domains (sites) to their corresponding Portal page in the webserver, the URL reveals that we are actually running all these sites on the same Portal domain. I know that we can change the Portal domain by running the ssodatan script, but is it possible to have one portal instance work for several Portal domains ? I realise that this is probably far fetched, but I just had to ask... This will not create a big problem for us, it's mostly an esthetical issue.
    Morten

    Yes you can do this.
    Your machine must have multiple IPs with a different name associated with each IP.
    Look at the ssodatax scripts. This script allows you to make additional entries into the login server repository to register new names with the login server.
    Add each name using the ssodatax script and you will be fine.

  • EP6 SP2 - Adding a new Dialog Instance

    Hi,
    I have two physical hosts. Host A was installed with State Controller, Dispatcher A and Server A.  Recently, I have added a new Host B with Dispatcher B and Server B.  Host A is the Central instance while Host B is the new Dialog instance.  When I startup the node Server B in Host B, it was trying to synchronise the files with Host A but it ran into an error during synchronization. In node Server B, it was complaining of some error during startup with the go.bat.  The error was :
    Start synchronizing application irj. More details about the synchronization can
    be found in INFO log files.
    Application irj was locally stopped.

  • How to get new controller instance instead of a cached one?

    Hi,
    I have the following problem. I am working on a stateful mvc application. You can search for items and then click on a button which allows you to see the details of an item in a new window and it is possible to modify it.
    I use standard javascript code to open the details windows:
    window.open("item.do?itemnumber=1", "MyFirstWindow");
    This works fine. It opens the first window. The item controller is called for the first time  and the do_init method will be executed.
    Now, I open a second window with this code:
    window.open("item.do?itemnumber=2", "MySecondWindow");
    Unfortunately the framework will not create a second controller instance for the second window. It will use the already existing item controller (the do_init method will not be called).
    Now, I have two windows open which both use the same controller instance.
    So my question is: Is there the possibility to tell the framework that I need a new item controller instance for every new window?
    I already checked various official url sap-parameters but did not find anything useful.
    regards
    Thomas

    Hi,
    sorry for not answering earlier. To be honest I thought there might a standard way to get a new controller instance. But it seems that is not the case. For everybody who is interested I think I will use the following solution.
    I create a wrapper controller called itemwrapper.do. The view of this controller has the following layout:
    <htmlb:content design="design2003" >
      <htmlb:document>
        <htmlb:documentHead>
        </htmlb:documentHead>
        <htmlb:documentBody>
                  <bsp:call url     = "item.do"
                            comp_id = "<%= item_id %>">
                    <bsp:parameter name="itemid" value="<%= item_id %>"/>
                  </bsp:call>
        </htmlb:documentBody>
      </htmlb:document>
    </htmlb:content>
    The wrapper controller is called like this: item.do?itemid=1234.
    How does is works? The wrappercontroller gets a request -> it gets the itemid from the url -> it opens the view and fills the page attribute item_id. In the view the bsp:call extension will create a new item controller instance everytime a unique item_id is used.

I have already successfully got the first portal up and running with web browser access. However, I'm not sure how to get the second portal up and running with that ssodatan script.
    I tried specifying a separate port (7778) in that script and started a second port listening in httpd.conf, but this doesn't work. I also tried specifying a separate port and separate url (like portal302 and portal302_sso) in the http parts of that script, but this didn't work either.
    Each portal has it's own login server installed, so I don't want to associate both portals with a single login server.
    Can someone help me??? Thanks.

    Kathryn,
    Presumably you installed both Portal instances in different schemas (i.e. Portal30 and Portal309 etc.). If so, then all you will have to do is run the ssodatan script against each, referencing the exact http address for each. Once you have done this you should be able to contact both from the same http port (i.e. port 80) by referencing them in the URL (i.e. http://www.foo.com/pls/portal30 and http://www.foo.com/pls/portal309.
