  • Now I get Notifications for Every New Post in Subscribed Topic

I believe this is a change from the old forums. Used to be I would get only one e-mail notification of new posts in a topic to which I was subscribed and would get no more until I revisited the topic (in a logged in state). Now I get an e-mail each time a new post is made even if I haven't visited the topic. This tends to fill up my mailbox when I'm subscribed to a busy topic. Was this a deliberate change for a particular reason?
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

  • Can't see difference between new posts and old ones.

    Hi
This may sound like a silly question......but why I can't see new posts everything looks the same, no indication of new posts.
It's very silly not to be able to see new posts.

Agreed guys ! We risk to not answer to someone, because we don't see that the thread has been updated. Before it was very easy to do that, now it' quite difficult :-(

  • New Post Indicator / Overview and Discussions Tabs

Having some difficulty adjusting to the new layout of the ASC forums.
    1. I don't see any color change of icons or diff icons that would indicate a new post to a topic.
    2. For each main topic tier there are two tabs at the top, I prefer to see the 'discussions' as opposed to the 'overview'. Selecting 'set as default view' is easy enough but is there a way to set it for all of the ASC forums? It's a little irritating having to select the view for each new forum I visit.
    3. Oh, there's not a '3' YET!!
    Thank you

    Hi,
    1. In the Discussions tab, content you haven't read yet is a Bolded Blue color, and if a post was updated, there would be the phrase (Updated) in orange.
    2. As far as I am aware, no.
    Hope this helps!

  • When is a topic considered to be "old" and no longer meant for new posting?

I decided to make this a topic, so hopefully future posters can also benefit from my ignorance. Therefore I sincerely hope that this topic will become a sticky note.
Today I was "reprimanded" for posting in thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165987.msg1232608#msg1232608, because it's inactive for 2 months and considered to be of no more interest to the OP. I find that last part somewhat presumptuous, because I think that only the OP can decide whether it's of interest to him or not.
Call me stupid, but I don't understand why posting in a somewhat older thread is considered to be a problem, inappropriate or forbidden. Where exactly is the harm in that?
The forum rules do not explain when a topic is considered to be too old for posting, therefore leaving room for personal interpretation.
And if topics are no longer meant for posting, why aren't they closed by the moderators?
So please be more specific on this matter and enlighten us naive and ignorant souls .

Read the warning carefully. It clearly states:
Unless you're sure you want to reply[...]
So if I am certain I want to reply I am allowed to!
That's not ignoring the warning, that's making a decision based upon it!
Perhaps you should also adjust the warning and make it a little more strict, like:
Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 60 days.
Posting in this topic could be interpreted as resurrecting the topic, which violates our forum rules.
Please consider starting a new topic.
This way you politely discourage it even more and at the same time you provide an explanation by reffering to the forum rules.
And also make sure that the time span in the forum rules and the warning match with each other to prevent confusion.
Disagree with that one. If wanting to nit-pick, maybe it should read 'Please Start A New Topic'. No 'consider' as an option at all.
    Maybe something less subtle and full of sarcasm more akin to this;
START NEW THREADS UNLESS EVERY DETAIL, SYMPTOM, AND COMPONENT OF YOUR SYSTEM IS IDENTICAL TO THE OP'S!
Give an option and take somebody off a leash, they will pick the easy path almost every time. How difficult is it to start a new thread and get individualized personal attention?
I can see when new information may become available 'after' a considerable amount of time has passed that may add value to an old thread, but too many hijack and don't even have the same mainboard, etc. A moderator could be asked to possibly include relevant information to a locked thread.

Has someone's feelings been hurt? Sounds like something straight from a political correctness handbook regarding the guidelines concerning self esteem, tolerance, diversity, and sensitivity!

  • Still Receive Multiple E-Mail Notifications of New Posts When Subscribed

In days past, a user would only receive one e-mail notification of new posts to a thread to which he/she was subscribed. You would have to visit said thread before you would receive new e-mails. Sometime during the last big change in the structure of the forums, this way of e-mailing notifications changed. Now I am bombarded with a new notification each time a new post is made to a subscribed thread. I may have ten or more new e-mails just notifying me of new posts to a single thread before I even get a chance to make a return visit. The old way was much, much neater. Any chance of a return to that?
    Regards,
    Steve M.

    I experience it even worse.
I receive Notifications and Digests for threads that weren't changed.
    I mean to say that
-I post an answer to some topic.
-Automattically I am subscribed to that Thread (that's OK, I asked for that in my settings)
-I receive lot's of Notifications and Digest ALTHOUGH NOBODY ADDED A NEW POST TO THE THREAD. It seems as if the Notification also reacts any time anybody is READING the thread.
It seems obvious to me that I only want to receive Notifications (and Digests) of Threads that are altered in some way since the last time I read the thread OR received a Notification or Digest.
    That is:
    - new post added to the thread
    - a post has been altered by one of the posters
    - a Solved or Helpfull mark is given.
    Hope Apple can fix this.
    thanks

  • [solved] Old topics

I was happily reading the forum, when suddenly, on reaching the bottom of http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=47658 it appears to be a bump of a topic over a year old. Rightfully closed by Allan as we speak.
Now, I don't really understand how these realy old topics get bumped, and I'm fairly certain there's some mentioning of this practice in the forum etiquette.
    (1 minute later)
    Voila: I knew it: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/For … bumping.27
So, now I have wasted about 5 minutes of my life posting this, but is it a waste? Nah, I chose to post this, and maybe something good comes out of it. (Be it a laugh, funny remark, some minor improvement, someone reading and thinking 'necrobumping? etiquette? I should read up on this stuff!')
the 5 or more minutes I wasted on reading the necrothread howevere, realy felt wasted.
So I thought, I have to tell this to someone, in the right place, the forum discussion, because I thought maybe someone could come up with a brilliant sollution, like tagging [OLD] or closing them or something.
And *doh* do I feel stupid now not looking at the date of the first post I read, something someone smarter than me, like Allan, did.
Maybe there's nothing that needs or should be done in that retrospect, and I should happily go about my way with a lesson learned. "Pay attention to dates!" (Right now, when I read that, it sounds like I date but ignore the girls I date with, which I don't, because I don't date, my girlfriend doesn't let me, but when I dated her, I sure didn't ignore her .. I may have ignored others in the past though, come to think of it)
To Forum Moderators: thanks for a hell of a good job, never had any complaints! And if this thread needs to be moved elsewhere to die silently, I apologise for the work and wasted minutes that may cause you.

  • "My Subscriptions" new post alert problem

Recently I have noticed that the "My Subscriptions" link in Discussions no longer always removes the blue dot indicating new posts in the list of subscribed topics if I have already read the post(s) while browsing through the forum.
This only occurs in the "My Subscriptions" page -- if I browse the forum topic list or click on the "My Subscriptions" link to take me to the topic, those pages do not show any blue dots or "new!" markers.
It doesn't have anything to do with how recently the topic was last posted to; some items already read several days ago are still marked as new on the "My Subscriptions" page while others read more recently are not.
Has anybody else seen this or is it something peculiar to my account?

    ali brown wrote:

The problem with doing that is I still have to scan the thread for "real" new posts since there is no way to tell from the "My Subscriptions" page which actually have new posts & which don't. If the thread has only a few posts, this isn't much of a hassle, but if it does I have to resort to using the "Find" command in Safari & searching on "new!" to make sure I locate any that really are new to me before leaving the thread. If I don't, I run the risk of marking all the posts as seen/old just by opening the thread & then moving on. That is a hassle I would like to avoid.
Anyway, thanks for confirming that I'm not alone in seeing this.

  • Voucher Number in new posting period

    hello,
I have created new posting period and series for financial year 2011-12.
In previous year I have created 600 voucher. My issue is that when I am creating new
voucher, voucher number is showing 601. I want that for new series voucher number should be
start from 1. but it seems like numbering series doesn't affect the voucher number.
Because there are no series creation for journal voucher. In this case how can I solve my problem.
    Please help me on this.
    thanks
    Annu

    Hi Annu.............
You created Posting Period but have you created Period Indicator and Assigned this Indicator to this created Posting period?
If you have done this then when you define new no. series from one just assign the same indicatorto this New No. Series also and lock old series.....
    Hope this will work....

  • Problem switching from a non Idea Exchange board to an Idea Exchange board when typing a new post

    Tested on Chrome/XP and IE8/XP
when I start a post in a non Idea Exchange forum and later on want to convert it into an Idea Exchange one, I can switch to the correct forum using the "Select Board" pull-down list. However, when posting, my post is refused because I haven't chosen a "Label". Well, that's because I can't!
In other words, switching to an Idea Exchange board does not add the "Label" options on the composition webpage, hence it is impossible to post that idea unless you copy it (or rely on the autosave function), start a new post directly into a Idea Exchange forum and paste your old post in it (or alternatively, load the saved draft once you have created the new post).
Disclaimer: this may have already reported, but as I said elsewhere, the Search function doesn't work either...

This is my first post so be gentle with me.  I have a Pixi Plus running os 1.4.5.  Last week we upgraded to exchange 2010 (or 14 as I've heard it called).  I lost the connection on my phone.  I tried changing the inheritable permisions above and it has not solved it.  I'm pretty sure all the log in info I'm using is correct.  It acts like it's communicating with the server because it says
    Unable to sign in
    Could not sign into account
THe mail server responded: bad login/password
I've changed several things and when I change certain things it says it cannot validate incoming mail server so I feel like I'm close but can't figure it out.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Forum FR: provide a "my new posts" list

A feature request for the forum software:
Would be nice if you could provide a list of all posts that initally where posted (new topic) by me ("my new posts").
It is really difficult to track the questions i have posted in my watches or the recent messages list in my user profile.
    Thanks, Markus

Weird ... I understand about Reps & levels being (tempoorarily/temporally) 'ou to lunch' but I am puzzled about posts ...
Many others' counts look OK to me (people I'm familiar with, or would consider 'Peers in Posts', obviously .
I appear to have lost many hundreds - who remembers exactly ? It's not the sort of thing I memorize - But it was more 400 than 40... or 800 than 80.
(I have ca. 600 in my mailbox just from my posts - and just from threads I had email Subs to ... so a 2 digit number is fairly unlikely grin)
Perhaps it'll all sort itself out
(I never did much like the way Posts arbitrarily went Offline, anyway - permanently unavailable to searches - so I'd subscribe via email to have my own copy. This made it easier to explain/answer the same complicated question/problem the next 20 times it got asked after the original dropped off the twig. It's not as if the questions & answers don't remain relevant - in many cases, for years afterwards...)

  • Don't auto archive old topics, because I might return, some day

Here is a suggestion: Don't auto archive old topics, because I might return, some day. It is really annoying, that after couple of months or so I come back, and my threads have been locked. Also the message of locking is very small, hard to notice. I just try and try to post, but nothing helps. Then I find out, oh, the thread is convieniently locked. At the very least, the message should be more clear, and different icon for locked messages.

    Hi Barbara,
For some people it is a useful thing.
The Example I linked to is in iSight's forum and if you go there you will see it not that far down the Topic List.
Mostly I have seen nice comments or very late thanks as in the Example.
Currently at the top of the second page in iChat 3 forum is one I used a similar technique on myself. It is the one with the red Title. (iChat 3 is currently getting more posts than iSight is so it has progressed further down).
It is an archived thread so even further Helpfuls and Solved stars cannot be awarded ...
I will leave you to work out what I did and how it could be abused.
