Thank you for posting about your PowerShot A2300!
If the subjects are moving, they may be moving out of the area being focused on.  You may want to try using Servo AF for moving subjects.  Please follow these steps:
Press the MENU button.
Choose [Servo AF].
Choose [On].
The focus and exposure are maintained where the blue AF frame is displayed while you are pressing the shutter button down halfway.

I just bought two new iPads a few weeks ago. If they're still in the return window they're going back. Maybe it's time to look at some of the Android tablets since all of a sudden Apple thinks the mini is a great idea.

  • The new appearance of the Notes App is really disappointing. I used it for lists and now it just makes my notes appear to be random paragraphs without visual separation.  Am I missing anyway to customize the App?

No, you can't customize it.  Try different apps available in the App Store.

I have mi new ipad screen broken in one corner, I was really disappointed because it was drop from about 30 cm so I was not expecting the screen to be broken, well I went to apple store in regents street in London  and I was told that I have to pay 250 pounds for the screen replacement, it was a rip off and after many years using apple products I have expend thousands of pounds on them, I just think is  a rip off price. It will be difficult but I won't be buying any apple products anymore, I really feel like I was abuse that was half of the price of a new iPad. I have never complain in my life but this time I think apple is abusing me as a costumer.
I'm really upset, I'm furious that apple uses his dominance in the market to Rip off costumers like me.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
You can get the glass replaced at 3rd party repair sources for less $, however, the Apple warranty will be voided.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro Really disappointed

I just got my brand spanking new MacBook Pro. I got 4 gigs of RAM, 200 gig worth of hard disk, and I got the 17" one. I am really disappointed. I used the "Migration Assistant" per the instructions to xfer my network, email, files, et al from my old Powerbook. I went to start using my new computer and the email settings were not set up at all and my address book on the new Mac contains none of the listings from my Apple addressbook on my old Mac and yes, I checked every one of those boxes re preferences of what to xfer in Migration Assistant. What's the point and what the **** was the MA doing all the time I had to wait for it to finish its business...
    Really disappointed.
Now I have to go back and place everything manually into the new Mac? As I said, what's the point...
I just went back and looked again and not even my web sites/bookmarks however these are being referred to these days was saved into Safari on my new Mac and yes, I was connecting via Firewire. Really really ****** about this. Ease of use... right...

Not angry - just really really disappointed. I mean what were they thinking... many many users buying this machine would indeed be "migrating" from the last Macintoshes which were non-Intel based. I have to wonder what the intention was and who the intended user was for this so-called "Migration Assistant" and whether any user testing was done at all... Really a disappointment. Now it seems like I need to set aside an entire day to get up and running. Very disappointing and UNApple-like.
Do you have any advice on how to transfer addresses from my Apple address book? Do I need to go EXPORT them first on the old Mac?
What about iTunes stuff - some stuff xferred and some did not - I "authorized" my new computer but do I now have to go DEauthorize the old one?
Now I understand why people are paying the Applestore to do this for them after a purchase. What a BIG pain in the a.
Where are all the bookmarks and how do I xfer those? And the Mail settings - where are they and what are they called and what do I move them into on the new computer?
Almost $4000 I spent and to not be able to get up and running nearly as quickly as the last time I got a new Mac is I feel a big blow to Apple's current engineering design. This reflects poor thinking/design.
    Thanks for your helpful post!

I'm really disappointed with new 5 update.  No music, No photos, No videos, lost all emails.  Anyone know how to get these all back?  Yes, I have synced and synced and synced.  Help

Hopefully it isn't too late for this but:  before performing an update it is really best if you close all apps (double click the home button, click and hold on one of the apps that appears at the bottom of the phone until the red minus sign appears and then tap the minus sign until all apps are closed) and then turn the phone off by holding the standby button until the slider saying "slide to power off" appears and slide it to turn the phone off.  Then turn the phone back on and hook it up to your computer to sync and perform the upgrade.  This also helps if you do this before performing syncs too.  I had problems with an iPod previously where it would fail to backup before sync most times, but have never had a problem with updates or syncs since I started performing this procedure.  Unfortunately, your pre-update backup may have failed and the data in your apps might be gone, but you could try to restore your phone.  If I remember correctly how to do this, you connect it to your computer and check for updates.  It should say you're up to date, but have an option to restore the phone.  If it does, I'd try that.  It may also have a "restore from backup" option you could try.

  • Really disappointed with the Macbook pro

    Hi all,
I purchased a Macbook pro in the middle of January 2011 with some inheritance money. I went for the cheapest one - was going to go for the white macbook like my partner but thought it would be worth the extra money to upgrade to the pro. It was the first time i had made the move from PC to Mac, but was fairly familiar with the systems having owned an ipod touch for a while and my partner also having a macbook.
4 months on...and i have to say I am really really disappointed with my Macbook pro and certainly not worth over £1000 i paid for it. This is mainly because:
i find that after a while of watching movies (15 - 20 mins), the video starts to "stutter" and the mouse jumps when i try to move it. I thought this was only the case on flash-based websites (like Youtube - although there is no problem on my partners basic macbook) so installed click2flash. I have since come to realise that it also happens whilst watching DVDs etc. I also thought it may be when the battery is low, but it happens even when it is plugged in. I cant understand how it happens on mine but not my partners even though my Pro is supposed to be a high spec (isnt it???)
I use Garageband and often record myself by mic input over the top of backing tracks that i import into the program. I have to record with no effects on my voice to begin with whatsoever , nor the backing track, and have to minimise the garageband window to the dock as when it is open and scrolling, i get the "Part of the project was not played. This project has too many tracks, effects, or notes to be played in real-time." error.
The other day, i noticed my macbook pro would not burn CD-Rs (both music Cds and MP3s) and later realised that i could burn anything up to 6 or so tracks (about 20-25 minutes worth of audio). After trawling the forums, trying slower burn speeds, different brands of CD-R and lens cleaning cds (which froze in my macbook) I still have a faulty disc drive. I have now discovered that the end tracks of some audio cds i have will not play so is obviously something wrong with the drive.
I'm very frustrated and can't help but wonder if maybe i should have just got a £500 windows laptop instead!
Any help and feedback would be much appreciated. Are Apple Support good at dealing with stuff like this? Am i best calling and discussing over the phone or taking it in to a Genius bar? I have also ran all the latest software updates.
    Thanks!
    Tom

    >the video starts to "stutter" and the mouse jumps when i try to move it.
That's the fault of the video format you are viewing.  It probably caches itself to the hard disk, and the sudden motion sensor gets triggered by the hard drive, if you give it any innertia.  You could create a RAM Disk with any of a number of solutions you can Google.
And DVD drives don't like being bounced around.   See what I have to say about CD failure below too.   Anything can cause a disc to get unbalanced, and not play back right.   I would not attempt to play DVDs while the machine is in motion, as you can damage the DVD drive of any machine that is.
Garageband has its own forum here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/garageband where someone can tell you if there is a setting you missed to improve the recordings.
CD Burning is a menace throughout the industry because a lot of media is not very high quality.  See my FAQ*:

  • I am really disappointed with iTunes 11. Stop making things SIMPLER!!!

This is the first software upgrade that has really disappointed me in the 15 years of owning Apple product. I use iTunes to manage my music that is used for my DJ software. Traktor. Now I can't have 2 playlists open at the same time, so it's impossible to compare. I might have 4 different remixes of the same track and I need to easily compare to see if a track is in both playlists and it just cant be done. Here are some of the things I dislike about iTunes 11.
You can't open more than one playlist.
If you are using homesharing, you can't show only "song not on this computer" when you want to import tracks. And of course, I can't see if they are on my computer while having the homeshared library window open.
You can no longer rate songs by using the remote app on the iPhone. It works with the iPad.
Thank goodness I waited to upgrade iTunes on my iMac before I discovered all of these missing features. I now have to do my "power-user" chores on my old 2007 iMac and then have my new MBPro upgrade the playlists thru iTunes match.
I get that Apple is trying to make things simple for a broad range of people, but by doing this to iTunes, which is the SOLE method of handling my music library with my 3 computers, and 2 iOS devices. I need the flexability of the power features.
Maybe Apple can make a professional version of iTunes. Much like Apature to iPhoto, or Logic Pro to Garage Band. I'd be very happy to have a more powerful music player. Maybe one that shows the waveform of the song that is playing, so you can quickly jump to a certain section. Or give us the ability to color the track much like labels in the finder. I often want to select several songs in one playlist to create another playlist and having the ability to color-code them as I'm auditioning the song would really help in the organizational process. I find myself using the finder, quick-view and labels often for this chore.
And how about a genre organizer so it would be easy to change or combine the 4 versions of R&B that show up on my genre list.
    Gimme iTunes Pro!!!

I don't know man I too hope apple will do something this new I-tunes blow my top lost my whole tune!!!

  • Really disappointed with Nokia Care

I bought a 920 around a month and a half back but few weeks ago the touchscreen and the capacitive buttons stopped working. I did a number of soft resets but it didn’t respond. So, I took the phone to Nokia Care and they did a complete system wipe and re-flashed the firmware and returned the phone. It worked for a few days but again broke down with the same problem few days back. The phone had stopped working on the third day itself but after a few soft resets it started working and didn’t freeze up once until few weeks ago where it stopped working altogether.
I went to Nokia Care again hoping for a replacement this time. But they reflashed the firmware and said that it fixed it but they returned me the phone with a dead battery. They made some lame excuse about not having the charger. So, I couldn’t check it there but they assured me that it was fixed. I went home, charged it up only to find that the same problem still persists. Now, I don’t know what happened there but I know it magically didn’t break down on my way home. How could they think that this will deceive me?
I am a huge Nokia and Microsoft fan and I paid a huge amount for this phone (around $800, which is a lot in an impoverished country like Nepal) but I am really disappointed with this. For such a high end phone, I ought to be getting a decent service. But this is an utter disgrace. Even the technicians are so rude. When I insisted that it was a hardware problem and that I needed a replacement calmly, they replied harshly saying that they fixed the problem, as if we having some kind of brawl. They even stated Nokia doesn’t offer replacements for Lumia series because it is a high end phone and very expensive. Now, this is nonsensical! Why are they finding it so difficult to replace the phone? Are they neglecting because I live in a small country?
Nokia really needs to step up their game if they want to capture the market share like Samsung. A similar incident happened to my friend’s Galaxy S3 – they replaced it without any issues whatsoever.
I had been recommending Lumia series to many of friends but now, after this incident, I don’t know what to say. This is one of the worst services I have ever experienced. I am taking the phone back to Nokia Care for the third time in 6 weeks tomorrow. I really hope I get my replacement.

Same here, and some other forum goer as well.
Perhaps you should try another Care point if possible at all, maybe you'll get better service there.
Else keep bringing it in, in my country you're by law forced to either fix, replace or give the money back when a product is faulty.

  • Really disappointed with the answerable from Apple

    Hi Imobl
What is the meaning of "  you may even be getting a new one
rather than a refurbished one - but there is no way for you to tell which
it is. " ? This answers definitely misleads the customers of making them feel that they could get a new one but 99.99% absolutely not.
Another unacceptable answer from you is "Not a bad deal for a used iPad. " what is that mean? I pay the price of a brand new iPad just for six months then a quality problem accursed  that Apple can fix it  now i was told that i have to accept a replacement of a refurbished because that is the policy of Apple. Does that policy protect Apple rather than their customers?
Really disappointed with the service and irresponsible answer of such a big company like Apple , better think of another brand name in the future.

First this is a technical base forum and we are users just like your self here. With that said your post is agaisnt the terms and use you just agreed to. if you have feed back for apple go to apple.com/feedback. Thank you

I have a new BT Converse 2300 plugged into a line which has caller display enabled.  The phone replaces a Paragon 650 which was showing caller numbers when people called me, but the converse just displays NO CALLER INFO.

Stored number 0123456789 appears like that on the setup screen but dials 00000123456789
Maybe it simply displays the maximum number of possible digits?
If it actually dialled those zeros, your call would not connect.

  • New PB G4-15-Widescreen, Disappointing, and slow

I just took delivery of a brand new 15" Aluminum Powerbook 1.67 GHz G4 (Widescreen Edition) as a replacement for my aging 15" Titanium Powerbook.
My first thought was how much I was underwhelmed by the appearance: that is, I recall first seeing the TiBook in person, holding it at my side, and being really impressed with the whole design, ergonomics, etc. The AlBook seems to have dumbed down the TiBook's appearance to a much less impressive look and feel, less svelte, clumbsier, etc.
However, I can understand that some of the changes were necessary: ie, the lid had to be a little thicker to prevent keycaps from marking the LCD, etc. Fine...I can live with that.
But upon using it I was constantly wondering why the AlBook felt so much slower than I expected: so I ran some benchmarks.
Using xbench 1.2 on both PBs, my TiBook generally ran a benchmark score from as low as 20 to as high as 24. The AlBook, however, is topping out at 42, and more often than not scores in the 40 range. 3.5 years newer and barely twice as fast?
What sense does this make? And how could it be?
    1. Both PBs have G4 procs. The AlBook at 1.67GHz should be 250% the raw speed of the TiBook's 667MHz.
    2. The AlBook supposedly has 128MBs of a "much improved" graphics processor, compared to the ATi Mobility (16MB I think) of the TiBook.
    3. The AlBook has 1.5GB of supposedly much quicker ram, compared to the TiBook's 768MB.
    4. The AlBook supposedly has 80GB of a 5400rpm HD, which is less than half full, compared to the 30GB 4200 rpm 90% full drive in the TiBook.
    5. Here's the unknown: the TiBook still had OS X 10.3.x (latest available) compared to the AlBook's OS X 10.4.2 or 10.4.3 (ran both). However I ran top to ensure that neither had any extra processes running that would impact benchmarks (ie, I shut down dashboard, etc).
I've used various system utilities (Cocktail, Macaroni, SOX) to ensure that both are as up-to-speed as they allow, and ran iDefrag just to ensure I didn't have any strange fragmentation on the new PB (I didn't).
I'm also not a new Mac user: I've owned literally hundreds, going back to my first - a Mac Plus, which I saved up for and bought while in Highschool - and have worked as a Mac consultant for several years over the past 15.
So somebody please tell me: what's wrong here? Is there a chance I just have a lemon? Did I get a slow drive? Underclocked proc? bad ram? Or is there that much extra load from 10.4 compared to 10.3 as to make this difference?
    Thanks,
    DM

Well...I guess I'm still disappointed. Every previous new computer for me has been like buying a new house: you get to buy a little more square footage, live in a nicer neighborhood, have a bigger pool, with better landscaping, and so on.
This new AlBook is like getting a new pair of shoes: not as worn out as the old pair, certainly shiny and nice looking, and a somewhat more modern style, but all in all providing the same basic experience as the old pair did when new.
I'm still disappointed with the overall look and feel, though it's better than the cheapie ($499) Dell laptop I bought as a spare PC for the wife a few weeks ago. I guess it's sort of like the difference between the Lombard (which I owned) and the Pismo (which I did not), the latter being a slightly clunkier, less fresh, slightly faster but not quite as sexy version of the former.
That said, I like the built-in Bluetooth, key-lighting is very cool, seems to be quieter than my TiBook. Unrelated to the hardware, but specific to my full-time jump from 10.3 to 10.4 I have to say that I think that Dashboard Widgets are done a bit more nicely than Konfabulator was (and I loved Konfabulator as an OS extension; easy to understand why Apple copied 'em). I imagine this comes from having a crew of coders that are part of the OS team.
Where it fails compared to the Dell, however (especially when considering that it's 4x the cost), is in some fairly critical performance issues: Airport range is absolutely, unbelievably bad. I have a Linksys wrt54g with Talisman firmware, jacked up to 200mW, coupled to a pair of Hypergain 14.5dBi antennas, which will let me get across the street with the Dell (and its cheapie built-in Intel-based wireless chipset) on 802.11g, and 24+Mb bandwidth. The AlBook fails outright 30 feet away (and I've tried different options, ie Interference Robustness settings).
This means that some critical aspects of my life - such as sitting in bed with the AlBook on my lap - just plain can't happen.
Now that I've disabled a big chunk of my Ram, the 'book isn't crashing and the WiFi isn't dropping out...as much. But it still doesn't live up to it's forebears.
I'm still holding out hope that there will be some future OS or firmware upgrade that will address several of these things. As a multi-platform user (considering my old TiBook could boot into OS 9, OS 10, YD Linux and Win2k via VPC) I still vastly prefer the Mac OS to the alternatives. It's still a joy to use, mostly, compared to the hum-drum experience of using Win XP and it's siblings.
I suppose what bothers me the most is that I have never in the past been disappointed with a new Mac. They've always met my expectations, and exceeded them in some respects. It's hard for me even to admit it, because in general I'm an optimistic, idealistic sort of guy. But in the end, much as it hurts me to say so, this upgrade has been a significant disappointment.
I'm already looking forward to - hopefully - trading it in on the first generation of Intel-based Powerbooks.
