New problem in page setup; custom sizes

Although previously working fine, while using Pages, custom page set up settings aren't taking effect. Trying to do a business card setting of 3.54 x 2.05 with no margins. It always comes back with a 8 1/2" x 11" page. I restarted pages, then rebooted the mac, and continue having this problem. Other test sizes now seem to be giving me the same result.
I am going to: Page setup, paper size, manage custom sizes.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there. I just tested this and found I was able to change from cm, which is my default, to inches simply by setting System Preferences > International > Formats > Measurement Units to US from Metric.
It sounds like you may be doing this already, so the only other thing I can suggest is to quit the Application you are attempting to set the Custom Size in. I found that after I set the Measurement Units back to Metric, the Manage Custom Sizes still showed inches in the dimensions boxes. But after I quit the application and then opened it again, the Manage Custom Sizes menu was showing cm again.

  • Page Setup / Paper Size- custom not an option

Following previous advice to get Adobe Acrobat installed to enable more print options, which I did, I am not seeing the custom paper size available as an option under page setup.
I am trying to follow along with Matt Kloskowski's video tutorial for print presets where he goes in and makes a contact sheet effectively become a triptych print setup. He goes to change the paper size from the standard to 11" x 4", and clicks Page Setup/Paper Size/Manage Custom sizes and enters the new dimensions.
When I go to Page Setup, and choose Adobe PDF under printer name, "manage Custom Sizes is not an option for me under Paper size- they are all standard sizes.
Any thoughts on why this might be?

Set your paper size as a custom size:
    1. Open the Pages doc
    2. Press shift+ ⌘ +p to open the page setup
    3. In the 'settings' pull down menu choose 'custom paper size'
    4. Click on the new button and create your custom size and save by pressing o.k
    5. Now your custom size will appear in every page set up dialogue.
For my two printers this is all I have to do. The printers adopt the page set up selected in Pages.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
This forum is dedicated to the productivity application, AppleWorks. It is not a "catch-all" for how Apple computers work. Your question would best be asked in the Pages ‘08 forum.
That being said, as with most programs, when something was working & stops doing so, the usual culprit is corrupt preferences. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences & delete the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist & restart Pages.

  • Page Setup / Paper Size not saved

    Hi,
I would like to change the default paper size for printing from US letter to A4. I change the paper size via File > Print > Page Setup > Paper Size to A4, but this setting is always lost once I close and restart Adobe Reader (paper size defaults back to US letter). I am using Adobe Reader X MUI on Windows XP at the moment, but I had the same issue with Adobe Reader 9.4.1 as well (there the menu is File > Page Setup > Paper Size).
Is there any way to make Adobe Reader remember a different default paper size (other than US letter)?
The printer has A4 as default in case anyone is wondering.
    Thanks!

  • Issues with new version of Pages and minimizing size of screen

Is there a way to make the pages window smaller? I usually have multiple windows open when making school notes and the new version of pages only lets me decrease the size of the window to a certain limit which is very frustrating!

Checked with Pages 5.2 and that still exists.
You can Open/Close the Format sidebar but unfortunately you need it most of the time and it is attached to every single document.

Pages '08/'09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Problem printing custom size 3.5 in x 5 in from InDesign to Canon i9900

I am working on a small project where I need to print a custom size. The cards are 3.5 in x 5 in. I set up a custom size of paper in InDesign CS3, but every time I print to my Canon i9900, I get only a small bit of the design in the upper left hand corner as if my paper size is set to 8.5 x 11. I have tried everything to get it to print correctly. Also, how do I set the paper for borderless printing? It seems that it still has a margin when my printer prints borderless. This seems like if would be elementary to me so I am a bit frustrated that I can't figure it out.

My experience is with CS2 on OS 10.3.9 and 10.4.11, so this may have changed in CS3, or 10.5....
Setup a custom paper size for your printer.
This can be accessed from within the InDesign Print window.
    File > Print
    Select your printer from the
Printer: pulldown menu (if not already selected)
    Click
Page Setup... at the bottom left
    Click
    Settings and then select
Custom Paper Size from the list of options
    Click
New, name the style, define the paper size and printable margins, and save it.
Click OK to exit the page setup.
In the InDesign Print Window, Click on
    Page Setup... again
    Select
Your New Paper Size in the Page Setup
Paper Size: pulldown, then click OK.
    InDesign Print window
Setup should reflect the new page size and list the paper size as "Defined by Driver"
If your document page size is the same as your paper size, then the preview in the lower left should reflect that.

  • PAGE SETUP LOST/CHANGED ON DUPLICATION

Using Pages '09 (v4.3) to produce a custom envelope for printing, discovered a problem of Page Setup info being lost/changed when you Duplicate a file or when trying to print from a template produced from that file.
I set up the file using Merge Fields for the recipients, working from a Master and using the File>Duplicate command to make a copy of the file for examining the output.  Everything looked good in the Print Dialogue displays, and also when checking by, for example, Saving PDF to Preview. On running an actual test print, however, it came out a total mess; text on the envelope in the wrong place and the wrong orientation, totally unuseable.
On examination I found that the Master's Page Setup info had been changed in the duplication:
"Format for ....." changed from <My printer> to "Any Printer"
"Paper Size"      changed from <My custom size & name> to "Other", although dimensions were retained
"Orientation"       changed from Vertical/Portrait to Horizontal/Landscape
This happened each and every time I duplicated the file, and I learned to simply go in and change the Page Setup info before printing.  Once happy with the design, I saved the last good Master off as a Template so I could call it up from My Templates for future use.  Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that the same thing happens from there.  Drag the vcards into the displayed file, set up the Mail Merge, and go to Print and all will look well but, once again, actual printouts will be messed up and, on examination, for the exact same reasons.
Page Setup is being messed up in a way that isn't visible on any of the visual displays before actually printing; there, all looks as you think it should and it appears that the printing should go well.  The info actually being sent to the printer, however, is incorrect. So, there seem to be two errors here, both linked:
The Page Setup info is not being reflected in the images or icons showing what the printed output will look like, and
The output produced at the printer is not what is shown before you print.
I'm far from a Pages expert so I can't help but wonder:  Is there some essential step I've been missing here? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Slight correction to the above: The corruption/change of the Page Setup information occurs as the template is selected, i.e, the new "Untitled.." window opens. If you go ahead and change the info back to what it should have been, what it was saved as when the template was created, then all works normally.
Same is true of the duplication: The setup info changes as soon as you dupe the file.  The original will still have the correct info, but the copy now shows the same stale default values (terms used might not be appropriate).

  • How do I print a custom size from Photoshop CS3?

I am using Photoshop CS3 with System 10.6 Snow Leopard, and I am printing on an Epson Stylus Photo R2000. The custom paper size is 8.5 x 14 inches. When I print the page the design appears to have expanded beyond the paper size. I need to make a borderless print, so I can't just shrink the image. What do I need to do?

There should be a Custom Size setting for your Printer in the Photoshop Print dialog: Page Setup > Paper Size > Manage Custom Sizes.

  • Export problems with pages/ save as word document results in corrupted text

This may be a new problem with Pages as I have not seen this happen with previous versions but, when I export a page made with a template, it ends up with merge problems - headers end up at the foot and invisible text regarding merge showing. When saved, a error box opens saying that merge fields are not save or similar, and I end up with a non friendly .doc file.

  • Custom Paper Size in Page Setup grayed out and cannot be selected.

I am playing with the iWork '08 demo and looking at Pages. I need to create an 8.25 x 10.5 custom paper size, which I did, but when I try to select it in Page Setup, it is grayed out. If I open a document made in the previous Pages that was done using this size, it still works.
    Any thoughts?

I'm having this same problem as well. I'm trying to set up my page size to B5. I create a new custom size with B5 dimensions in the Page Setup screen but after I save it, I'm unable to select it as my page size.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Setting postcard as custom paper size in Page Setup

I am once again in trouble with paper sizes and printing. I want to print standard postcards (13.9 cm wide, 8.8 cm high). I opened a word processor, went to File -> Page Setup, set the printer to Stylus Photo R340; then -> paper size -> manage custom sizes. I set the width and height, set the margins to the printer's ones and named the size 'Postcard (landscape)'.
When I wanted to print a card, I went to Paper Handling -> Scale to fit paper size, I chose 'Postcard (landscape)', un-checked 'Scale down only' and printed. What happened? The card went straight through and my text was printed on the rollers after the card had gone. In other words the printer ignored the postcard paper size and printed as if I had put an A4 or other letter-sized sheet in. What am I doing wrong? This happens with various word-processors.

    eMac G4, 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I now have some further detailed information, which makes it all seem even more bizarre. I have now carefully tried three word processors, and I have also tried some slightly different paper size specifications:
WORD: 13.88 x 8.80 works. Size appears under 'Paper handling'.
APPLEWORKS and MELLEL: 13.88 x 8.80 does not work; size does not appear under 'Paper handling' — 'Scale to fit' has to be used, but does not do anything.
ALL THREE: 13.90 x 8.90 works. Size appears under 'Paper handling'. 14.00 x 9.00 also works correctly in all three WPs.
I should be really interested in an explanation, if anyone could supply one.

  • PDF Image will not fill up entire custom size page

    Fellow Forum Members,
I'm using Acrobat 6 and SnagIt 8. My screen captures with SnagIt are being saved in PDF format. But for some reason I can't figure out, the capture image is not filling up the entire 8" x 6" PDF custom size page. I keep on getting 1.5" Right and Bottom margins no matter what setting I use in Distiller or in SnagIt. It's like the image is refusing to resize itself to fill up the page.
Does anyone out there know of a way to screen capture an image at a 8" X 6" size and have it totally fill up a 8" X 6" PDF page? Is there a screen capture app that doesn't have this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you use Acrobat's built-in functionality of creating a new PDF from the clipboard it fills the entire page.

  • Pages forgets Custom Page Setup

I do a lot of printing on 4 x 6 index cards, so I have created a custom size in printer setup. I select the custom size and landscape mode (The cards need to be feed into the printer short side first.) Everything works fine. BUT once I have saved, closed, and reopened the document, Pages has changed the size to a generic 6 x 4, rather than the 4 x 6 I had chosen. It also sets it to portrait mode.
This results in a lot of wasted cards when I forget to change it back. Any ideas of how I can get Pages to remember my custom size for the doc? I have done some experimenting and discovered that this happens when ever the first number is less than the second -- 4 x 6, 3 x 5, 5 x 8. This will always be true when I am printing on index cards.
    Thanks for any help,
    Daniel

    You are right.
I tried it both ways, including making it the other way to be portrait, orientation 90° but it forgets the orientation.
I see this as a bug.
    +Menu > Pages > Provide Pages Feedback+
It is a bug that infests all apps however, as I don't think this is a uniquely Pages problem.
