New Problems with IPod nano - crackle and clicking

Hi,
I got the IPod nano (2GB) a view weeks ago. I haven't changed anything - only copied mp3 songs and photos on it.
Today suddenly during jogging the nano starts to crackle and click - like an old analog tape. This didn't stop any more even after a lot of resets. I have connected my IPod with USB-2 onto my computer and recharged the accu completely. After disconnecting properly the problem is still the same. Also the buttons and the wheel don't work correctly anymore. Has anybody similar experiences? It seems apple has big trouble and problems with this new product. Maybe the IPod nano isn't fully well-engineered jet.
I am looking forward for your help and suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
Your Stephan

Hi Mike,
and what did you do finally?
Did you bring the Ipod back to
your dealer for an exchange?
My IPod didn't get wet during
jogging I have carefully kept an
eye on it.
Is this a general problem with the IPod
or only with some units?
Thanks
Stephan

  • I tried to set up a new library for my old ipod nano so i could update songs on it however when i tried to import songs from a cd it crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting to sync the new songs with ipod nano. now i cant find old library

However during the process of adding new songs itunes crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting the chance to sync the new songs onto ipod nano. later when i plugged in my current ipod touch all my songs have disappeared and i cant find the original itunes library i had for it! is there anyway to get it back? i have tried pressing shift when opening itunes but still cant find the original itunes that i had!!

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.
" it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account"
This is not true.  You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

  • Odd problem with iPod 5G 30G and iTunes 8...

It freezes when I plug in my iPod.
I've tried with my friend's iPod Nano (newest) and my iPod touch 8G and it works properly...
But iTunes freezes when I connect my iPod 5G 30G on Windows Vista.
Funny thing (annoying) is that it (my iPod) works properly in another laptop with Windows XP and iTunes 7...
So it seems something is wrong with the last update... Because it used to work...
Any solution to this...? Do I have to borrow my friend's laptop to change the music of my iPod or install something like Rockbox ...or even iTunes 7?
Does it means I have to buy a new model to keep compatibilities with the software?
Thanks in advance for the info.

    Nothing?
    Isn't this the support forum?
I must be doing something wrong...
Guess I'll go and ask the scene...
    Thanks anyway
... let me see... apple.com... support... yes... odd thing... :/

  • Problems with ipod battery life AND new software

First of all, I'm not 100% sure if my ipod is fifth generation... it's a 30 GB and I've had it since December 2006. This just seemed to be the only category it fit into.
But here we go: I have two major problems with my ipod that have arisen in only a period of a couple days.
First of all, my battery life suddenly got REALLY REALLY bad. I know there are already a bunch of threads with people complaining about their battery life, but mine is much worse. The battery life did progressively get a little worse over the past few weeks, but it was nothing major. But I turned my ipod on the other day, RIGHT after fully charging it, mind you, and within 2-3 minutes the battery was halfway discharged and in about 5 minutes it was almost dead.
And a couple of times, I had my ipod plugged into my iBook to charge, and the iBook went into sleep mode because I left it alone for a while. But after a couple hours I came back and the battery level was LOWER than when I plugged it in!!!! What's going on with this thing?
And then to make matters worse, I finally broke down and downloaded the new ipod software the other day (sorry I can't remember the version, but it's the most recent). Everything seemed OK until I turned on my ipod the next day. With the old software, when I would select "Music>" and then "Artists>" it would go to the list of artists like it's SUPPOSED to.
But now, when I select "Artists>" it then goes to a list entitled "Artists" and my ONLY option is "All>". If I click "All>" then it takes me to a second list called "All Albums" and my only option again is "All>". When I click it again, it takes me to a list called "All Songs" with NOTHING in it. At first, I was afraid the update had deleted all the music off my ipod, but I plugged it back into my computer and according to iTunes, everything was still there as if nothing had happened.
Is there anything I can do to remedy either of these problems? I am so frustrated with this thing, considering both of these things happened rather suddenly and the fact that my ipod is not even a year old and it's not like I've been abusing it or anything.

I've had both exact problems (listed below) within days of each other just like you. This is extremely effing frustrating and it appears Apple isn't doing sh|t about it.
Problem 1: Battery constantly discharges even when ipod is turned off.
Problem 2: After upgrading firmware to 1.2.2, all my content (songs, podcasts, everything) was gone.
I'm glad to say I was able to fix problem 2 after reading about reverting back to version 1.2.1. There are instructions in this forum on how to do it. If you are like me, you'll have to download the 1.2.1 files from Apple's website because they were no longer on my computer.
This dieing/dead battery problem is a major effing pain in the a$$. Like you say, the effing thing is dead after minutes. The only way it can be used for any length of time is to leave it plugged in to a charger.
No one seems to have a solution which is even more upsetting than the problem. Hey Apple, I want my money back!

  • Problem with ipod nano when i sync my contacts and calendr

I have two problem with my ipod nano when i sync my contacts and calendars.
For the calendars I use the thunderbird Mozilla calendar (that I export in .vcs) but the problem is that the appointment appear in my ipod with a different time: 18:00 on Mozilla become 16:00 in Ipod... Note that both (ipod and Mozilla Calendar) are configured with time zone in Paris.
For the Contact I have all in Thunderbird contact. The problem is that his software can't export the contact in vcard format (only in csv). Do you know a free software to convert my contact from Thunderbird to vcard format ?
    Thanks in advance.

On the phone, go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars select the account you want and scroll down to the settings for Contacts.  You can change display and sort order there.

  • Problems with iPod Nano 6th Gen Playback & Updating

Hi. I have had a look and can't find another post on this - apologies if I have missed it!
My problems start before I purchased my new Nano 16GB last week.
When the last update of iTunes came available, I was unable to install it. The task bar would get to about 50% (although it varied) and would then time out. When I had this problem I tried everything from every forum imaginable, from deleting all Temp files, disabling the firewall and all start up applications and clearing the registry – everything. Nothing worked. Eventually I decided that I should uninstall, then install the new version.
After a week of the same problems trying to install iTunes, I gave up and downloaded on another computer, and saved the .exe file to a USB stick. This worked until two days after I downloaded it, yet another update came out and I had to start all over again (I didn’t – I am running on 10.1.2.17 still).
I was concerned when I purchased my new Nano that I would have problems connecting it to iTunes as I was not running the new version – but it was okay. Unfortunately, the iPod requires update 1.1 and I am also having the same problem with this – I get time out error 3259 after sometime trying to download it. And yes, I have tried all the same tricks, but nothing seems to work.
I am running Vista on a Dell PC, and connect to the internet on a pre-pay internet USB dongle. I can download updates for other programmes, and other files successfully – it is only iTunes that I am having an issue with. ITunes is added to my list of accepted programmes on my firewall, but I disable that when I am downloading.
Meanwhile! My new iPod is fantastic. Unfortunately I am experiencing an odd problem with it, and cannot seem to find other people with the same issue. The memory is not overloaded (it has 1.10GB of free space on it). I have 1857 tracks on it, and 14 podcasts. I play the music files through the ‘Songs’ menu, on Shuffle mode. For some reason, after playing one or two tracks, it doesn’t seem to want to play the next one. The track will be displayed on the screen, but it does not play. When you look at the song progress bar, it shows that it is part way through the song, but it is not moving. I have tried pressing ‘Pause’ followed by ‘Play’ and nothing happens.
The only way to get it to start playing again is to skip to the next track, but even this has its issues. Sometimes, when you skip forward a track, it plays a completely different track to the one that is displayed. When you look at the progress bar for the song it is showing, it isn’t moving, but music is still coming out!
Does anyone have any idea what the issue is, and how I can get the machine to play continuously without having to handle it several times? Please?!

    Hi dianak22!
I have an article here that can help you troubleshoot to resolve this issue:

  • Small problem with the Nano 6G, and run workouts

Hello! I have sensor Nike IPod Sport Kit, which is in the new Nano 6G is not needed, because the accelerometer (pedometer) is built into the player and is suitable for running. But buying a heart rate monitor transmitter i is upset that it should only be used with the sensor in the shoe. Because when I connect the transmitter Nike to player Nano 6G, and then connected transmitter heart rate monitor and want to start training, the player Nano 6G is looking sensor in the sneaker, although it could well do without him. Request to developers Apple fix this problem so that you can use the transmitter heart rate monitor with built-in accelerometer in the player Nano 6G.
Sorry for the google-translator. Regards, Alex.

Alex, exactly what I was looking for...
I tryed to get info from Apple and Nike support but seems nobody knows what I'm tolking about.
I hope Apple will fix it on 6th G even if they'll launch the 7th G.

  • Two Problems with iPod Nano!

    Hi Community!
As I have already written in the topic, I've got two problems with my new iPod Nano:
    1) I charged the iPod over USB 2 and my dockingstation already about five hours, but the red sign and the message that I don't have to disconnect my iPod is still there (battery status shows full)
    2) With the docked iPod my computer doesn't boot anymore. When I disconnect the iPod it works :-/
    THX for helping me!
    dynAdZ

Thank you for helping me with my problems, but I still don't know why my iPod gives me this message, altough it is fully charged. And the flashing warning symbol drives me nuts
Mhh I didn't find an image for that symbol... It's a red circle which is crossed. The manual says that there should now be a green symbol, or just the menu...??

  • Serious Problem With iPod Nano/iTunes...

    Hello all.
2 Months ago, I upgraded from a Dell Dimension 2800 to a 5100. I was using an iPod Shuffle. Upon connecting the device to my new computer, it would come up with 'iTunes cannot recognize the iPod' and so on. When trying to Restore Factory Settings, the process could not be completed. The Shuffle ended up breaking and was replaced by Apple. It still doesn't work in my computer.
I now have an iPod Nano, although the same problem occurs. I have reformatted my hard-drive several times, and have tested just the iPod with nothing else on the computer. Still the same problems. My USB Drives work fine, and Mass Storage works fine before installing iTunes and the iPod software. I am guessing that the iPod has corrupted my USB Drivers or something like that. I have followed all the help topics - they do not work. Both the Shuffle and the Nano work on other computers.
I know several people who have the same problem. I would like to know if anyone else has the same problem, and has any idea how to solve it?

  • Problems with iPod Nano 2G after a rainy day

    Yep comrades, sh*t happens.
Today it was a very rainy day and a friend of mine was cycling to the school comfortably with his iPod Nano.
    <skip>
After coming to school, his iPod goes on but the display is completely white (background lights going perfectly) and it doesn't play the music.
Switching the iPod to PC bring the lil' nano not to its life back.
please help, my friend loves his nano 2g

I assume you're saying your friend's iPod got wet during his rainy day cycling. Assuming the problem is due to water damage your friend can try letting it "dry" for several days without turning it on then seeing if they have any success. Also try going through the 5 R's. If it is indeed water damage then it's not covered under warranty, in which case your friend would either have to go through 3rd party means to see if it can be repaired or purchase a new iPod.

  • Have you been having problems with ipod nano 3rd gen?

Have you been having problems with your ipod nano 3rd gen? got a windows xp computer? is your pc not recognizing it? I think i may have the solution. After 2 2 hour calls to apple tech support they were stumped. we reset it again and again, reinstalled itunes again and again. and they had no solution for me. I went to my device managerand there was a device called (apple Ipod USB driver) with a yellow exclamation point. I tried updating driver but to no avail. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing. But then I had an epiphany. I went to the device manager right clicked the apple ipod usb device clicked properties then update driver. Hardware wizard went up and I chose not to install automatically. and i chose to install driver manually. and then I installed a generic usb mass storage driver in its place and presto!!! it worked! it was instantly recognized by itunes and it took me to the registration page. I did what the apple support team wasn't able to do for 4 hours. I wonder if they're accepting applications... Anyway i hope this helps anyone out there cause i know i went through a lot of stress.

the driver is just a regular usb mass storage driver. it's in your computer. it's just a matter of installing it manually where it saya to include the location of the driver click browse and choose c:\windows\system32

  • New PC with IPod Nano

my daughters laptop was destroyed in a car accident. how can i connect her sister's ipod to a new pc without losing the existing content?
    Thanks
IPod Nano 4gb   Windows XP Pro

If the iPod is set to update automatically you just need take care when connecting back to a different computer. You will get a message that the iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all existing content. The iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and continue to use it without the risk of accidentally erasing anything. Check the "Manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once the iPod is safely connected you can transfer the songs to the new computer. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep the iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded iTunes and you are happy with the songs and playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Problem with Ipod Touch 8gb and Monster Beats Solo HD

Apple Ipod o guys , i bought an Ipod Touch there in this january , and 2 weeks later , when i got back to Brazil , my cousin did me the favor to crack my screen pretty good . So now , im wondering ,what can i do to fix it ,because the Apple Support here said that they would only give me a discount to buy a new one  ( and its a REALLY cheap discount ) , and if i choose to fix it from a unauthorized apple store , it would cost something like 300 dollars or so . ( Thats even more than i paid for the entire thing ) . So , as you can see , my country cant actually help me out on this one . Do you guys have any advice for what i could do ?
P.S. : I paid like 20 bucks for a special kind of insurance . Not sure if it would do me any good now .
Monster Beats : So ...as a lot of people ,  i think the headphones are great . But i really thing they are  "popped " ( not sure whats the english term tho  )  , i can still hear music and stuff but sometimes some kind of noise ( very annoying  btw )  starts to come out , mostly when in low pitch notes ( again , not sure whats the english term lol ) like in hip hop songs and stuff .. Is there anything i can do for this one too ?
Well , thats it guys , i hope you guys could understand my bad english ( sorry if you guys didn't ) . Any help would be deeply aprecciated .

    Hello NashOwnz,
I was disappointed to read about the problem with your iPod! If you have Geek Squad Black Tie Protection, Geek Squad can offer you service for the iPod, but it will need to be brought to a Best Buy store. Knowing that you're in Brazil, I realize that complicates matters.
For support with your headphones, please visit the Monster Beats website. I hope this helps.
