New quantam router and connecting to works remote access

After upgrading to new router my wife cannot connect to her Remote Desktop. Any ideas?

For Remote Desktop to work, there must an open port in your firewall for it to initiate the communication.  The usual port is 3389, but you can adjust that.  Here are the step-by-step directions at Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/allow-remote-desktop-connections-from-outside-your-home-... . If the link doesn't work, Google for "Allow Remote Desktop connections from outside your home network".
One side note - the "home" version of Windows 7 and many other older MS Windows versions will NOT allow it to be  a target of Remote Desktop - they can only initiate a Remote Dwesktop session to control  another PC, usually riunning the "Professional" version.  I'm not familiar with the Windows 8,8.1 versions and Remote Desktop.
This has not changed in Windows 8/8.1. You need the Pro version to run an RDP server on the machine. Fortunately other solutions like Secure VNC and TeamViewer exist.

I have a new WRV210 router, and set it up fine - works as expected for about 5-10 hours then hangs - pull the power, and restart the device it works again. This is getting old fast.
I use if for a VPN ipsec tunnel - tunnel works great when it is working.
It is also used as a NAT behind an AT&T router getting a DHCP address for the WAN connection.
It has the latest firmware as listed on the web site 1.1.16
I was thinking about reflashing the firmware - any suggestions?
    Steve

Hey try resetting the router reset button in such a way that power
light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power
cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router &
then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are
solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out
    it will definately work!!

  • I installed a new wifi router and airport will not connect automatically to it. It sees the network but will not connect unless I tell it to.

I installed a new wifi router and airport will not connect automatically to it. It sees the network but will not connect unless I tell it to. I can't find anywhere in the utility or network preferences that will allow me to choose this router as the default. How do I fix this? BTW I'm using Lion.

Are there any previous networks that you have used that have the same password as Molly?  YES
Using System Preferences > Network > AirPort Advanced again, you need to remove any listings of previous networks that used the same password as Molly. Click the name of the network and click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list of connections.
Also delete any other networks (except Molly at the top of the list) that might have used the same name...Molly in the past.
Delete any other networks that you no longer need so that your Mac will search for networks more quickly
    Click OK, then click Apply
Open KeyChain Access and look for a listing of any old networks that you no longer need. Click to highlight the name of the network, then click the Delete Key on your computer.
Then look for any old networks that might have used the name Molly in the past and do the same for them.
Then look for any old networks that might have used the same password as the password for your "new" Molly network and delete them in the same way
Click the KeyChain Access menu just next to the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the computer screen
and then click KeyChain First Aid
Enter the main administrator password for the Mac you are using and highlight the Repair button. Then click Start. You will see a message that repairs have been completed
    Quit Keychain Access
Power down the entire network...all devices...order is not important
Power up the modem first, then your main router, the other devices one at a time
Log on to Molly and see if the Mac remembers it after a few tries. If not, I'm afraid that you will need to change the name of the wireless network and password on your router due to corruption issues on the Mac. You have done everything possible without re-installing the complete operating system.

  • PSP, router, and modem issues with Remote Play

    Background:
    Verizon DSL
    Westell 6100 modem
    WRK54G router
    PS3
    PSP
I haven't seen a post on this topic yet, so I'll explain the issue.  The Playstation 3 is networkable either through a wired ethernet or wireless connection.  The Playstation Portable is also networkable over wifi.  The PSP has always worked at hot spots for web surfing and gaming.  With the release of the PS3, there was a new feature called Remote Play, which let you connect your PSP to your PS3 and stream the PS3 interface.  You can manipulate the options, watch videos and listen to music, just like you are at the controls of the PS3.  The PS3 has to be put in "remote play" mode for this to work.
Last week, Sony released an update that made this functionality work over the internet.  For most people this worked just fine.  Others had to open ports here or there, but there is a group of users that cannot connect from a hot spot, but can connect over the internet at home.  The original remote play connection (before the update) was a direct connection between the PS3 and PSP.  Now you can connect through your router at home (scan for your router and connect that way).  This connection works since the PS3 and PSP are both connected to the same router in your home.  When you go to a hotspot, you can get all the way up to the point that the PS3 streamed screen should start, but it times out.
This is taken directly from the PS3 owner's manual:
"If the PS3 system is connected to the Internet via two or more routers, communication may not work correctly."
It seems like internet connection from a hot spot doesn't work because the request for the PS3 gets lost between two routers when it gets to my home network.
Finally to my question.  It seems like my Westell 6100 is functioning as a router, as is my WRK54G.  When i look at my modem's settings, it is set up as a bridge protocol in routed bridge mode.  Everything else I try makes me lose my internet connection.
Anybody know what I'm talking about or have any suggestions?
    Thanks

A lot of PS3/PSP owners are having this issue with Remote Play. I have a WRT350N and have been through Sony forum as well as this one to know about all setups from port forwarding to giving your PS3 a static IP and placing in DMZ. I can say I had success connected via or public wi-fi but I also noticed how unstable Remote Play is. There will be times you can connect to it but if you turn your PS3 completely off (not standby) and back on you will pretty much need to setup your PSP again with the PS3 for Remote Play. The problem itself lies more with Sony and not our modem and routers except that fact that you do have to make some minor changes like disable UPnP, forward ports and etc. I own the Sony LocationFree Player which uses a similiar function like Remote Play but instead gives you control over your cable tv remotely anywhere on laptop or psp. LocationFree never failed me since day one because Sony created a DDNS for it which worked for me no matter who my carrier was or what router I have used over the years. Remote Play was introduced later for PS3 which pretty much like LocationFree but Sony doesn't provide a DDNS for it, instead we have to go through all the crazy configurations which is never stable. However you can register for a DDNS at DynDNS.org and configure your router with it which I have done before and found it to be very stable. No matter what Sony still needs to address the issue with the PS3 communication for Remote Play. You can find a lot of info here for setting up DDNS and as for Remote Play your better off going to the Playstation Forums. Good Luck!

Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images - and at times - videos don't load.  I've increased / deleted Cache.  Suggestions? Misconfig?  Could it be possible my configuration from MacBook to router isn't correct?
    Thanks!

    JG,
    Thanks for the info.
Couple of questions. I found an apple support document on this topic that opened with this line:
"AirPort Express and all AirPort Extreme base stations can use WDS. Earlier AirPort base stations can't."
If the TC is an airport extreme base station, why can't this work to extend the network? I think I misunderstand. Here is the full article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2044?viewlocale=en_US
If I buy a new airport extreme, set it to wireless-n only as my main router, am I correct that my existing time capsule could be used as a bridge if plugged in upstairs?
Final question (and that should do it), could I take this old airport express, plug it in upstairs using the ethernet connection, and just create a separate wireless network to use with a different name?
I'd like to keep one network if possible but just kicking around short term solutions.
    Thanks again.

I have a net gear wireless router and a APE working great inside the house, but the wireless signal is weak in the backyard, can I get a net gear extender for the back yard and it will boost our wo
Ireless signal and also send my music to the airport express? Or does the airport express work as a stand alone hub?

Trust me when I say this coming from 20 years of experience.
Get a powered external drive, format it 1 Partition Option: GUID and OS X Extended Journed as the format in Disk Utility.
Download and install Carbon Copy Cloner, clone internal drive to external drive.
Set a schedule to remind you to do it at least once a week, keep it near your charger.
When you plug your charger in, do plug the clone and power the machine up, set the display to sleep only,
    CCC will do the rest.
If you want to boot from it, hold the option/alt and select it Startup Manager.
I've seen many TimeMachine and TimeCapsule nightmares and so far haven't seen a problem from anyone using a bootable clone.
It's simple, it's easy, it's more reliable and more powerful than what Apple does and it only takes plugging in a extra cable.
Make as many clones as you want, keep them time seperated, off site etc. etc.
Cables don't have network issues, clones can be verified in seconds merely by booting from them.
Clones protect your productivity, your up in seconds on a clone despite even the hard drive dying.
Software problem? No sweat, boot of the clone and reverse clone your problems away.
If you want to fuss and muss with half implemented TimeMachine and TimeCapsule network headaches then prepare to suffer.
I don't like to suffer, I bought a Mac not to suffer, but it appears you do with TimeMachine and TimeCapsule.

  • I have a new wireless router and now my laptop will not recognize the printer.

I recently installed a new wireless router,Linksys E2500, and now my laptop will not connect to my OfficeJet 4500 wireless printer.  Operating system is Windows XP.  Says it does not recognize the printer.  It was working fine with my other Linksys router and I have been able to connect all of my other electronic equipment.  Thanks.

You must reinstall the full feature software and drivers again to be sure it will work with the new router.  This is the fastest way.  Simply follow the instructions that came with the printer.

  • New Netgear Router and hp1022nw

After getting a new Router - a Netgear WNR3500v2, i dont seem to be able to get my normally trusty 1022nw to connect to my wireless network.
When i connect to the printer via Ethernet via its fixed IP address 192.168.1.33 i can see the wireless network but it just refuses to connect.
Im using WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] Auto Channel up to 54Mbps.
The router only gives DHCP upto 192.168.1.32
Any ideas? Its driving me crazy.
    Thanks for your time. Warren

No trouble and thanks for your reply.
Ive checked all those things. The Router (a Netgear WNR3500v2) is running the latest firmware (V1.0.2.10_23.0.70) and is also working in 'Up to 54 Mbps' It says its: a Legacy Mode, with a maximum speed of up to 54 Mbps for b/g networks. Ive fixed the channel to channel 1.
Ive changed the Encryption on the printer in the Networking/Wireless tab to 'Disabled (No encryption)' with the Ethernet lead plugged in and then unplugged the lead. The blue light now lights up (that's a first), but it doesnt repond to the the fixed IP ive given it in a web browser or print anything. On the test runout (after a power cycle) it says:
    IP address - 0.0.0.0
    Link Status - No link
All Packet infos are at 0
    802.11 Wireless
    Wireless Status - Enabled
    Communication Mode - Infrastructure
    SSID is my network
If I then plug the ethernet lead back in and wait for the blue light to go out, then do another test runout i get:
IP address - 192.168.1.33 (fixed address i gave it [DHCP only runs upto .32])
    Link Status - 100TX Full
All Packet infos are at small but +ve numbers
    802.11 Wireless
    Wireless Status - Disabled
    Communication Mode - Infrastructure
    SSID is my network
Ive also checked the firware on the printer and its 20061215
It says Wireless Radio Datecode 031705 if that means anything to you.
Did you want me to send the details of the setup on the HP printer?
Is there a way to dump the info to a log file?
    Any more ideas?

  • New N Router wont connect to "n radio band" PLEASE HELP

    Hey All,
So I just got the new N ROuter from Fios.  (P.s.  If you want one, just upgrade to the 35/35 plan and they will offer you it and send a tech to bring it).
My problem however is that my laptop which has the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6230 internal wireless card will only connect to the "g radio band".  Is there some setting I can change on the router or my system?  The whole reason I upgraded was to get my laptops connecting at "n speed".
If my internal wireless card isn't compatible is the a known one that does?
Thanks for any help.  I really appreciate it.

I second the check for WPA2. Verizon should not be shipping any N-capable routers (Rev F-I) with anything BUT WPA2-AES security, as any device compliant with the N Standards will fall to G speeds if any other encryption type is used. Unsecured, while not recommended except for testing purposes is the only other mode that will allow N speeds.

  • New super router now shoutcast not working in firefox but does in chrome. Problem?

Updated my connection to Fibre so have new super router (still ADSL I think). Now my Internet access - no problem with all my other sites. Shoutcast displays OK but no sound, analyzer shows flat line. No other changes have been done on computer. What can be the problem?
    cheers Omhie

    Hi omhie2,
It is possible to check how Firefox connects to the internet: [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption]] specifically [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/advanced-settings-browsing-network-updates-encryption#w_network-tab this section] will help troubleshoot the network that may not be detected.

Yesterday connected to fibre broadband with new Brightbox2 router. Since then have been unable to Shut Down PC, although can select Sleep OK. Also cannot access System Manager via Ctrl-Alt-Del.

    Hi ,
Your change of router should not have changed any settings within your PC's operating system so this problem is most likely not related.
Have you tried holding the power button to force a reboot?
    Thanks
