New ram issue?

I bought CS$ Web Standard for my G5, and then needed to by more ram to install it. I installed my ram, installed the CS4 programs and now my CS2 photoshop and illustrator keep crashing. The new Dreamweaver crashes too but is at least usable. I used 'rember' to check the memory and it says it's OK. Could I have installed the memory wrong? I have old 128s nearest the center and then the pair of 1 gig in the second slots from center. Do I need to reinstall my CS2 programs?

Here's what the manual says about RAM installation.
Depending on the model, Power Mac G5 computers have either four or eight Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) slots arranged in two banks. The slots accept Double-Data-Rate (DDR) Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM) devices.
The computers ship with a minimum of 256 MB of RAM, provided by a pair of 128 MB
DIMMs installed in slot 1 of each DIMM bank. You can add DIMMs, provided they are
installed in pairs of equal size, one per bank, from the center outward.
In addition, DIMMs must fit these specifications:
• 2.5 volt
• 84-pin module
• Maximum number of memory devices on DDR SDRAM:16.
• Nonparity
• No error correcting codes (ECC)
• Unbuffered (registered or buffered DDR SDRAM cannot be used)
Important:
Always install DIMMs in pairs of equal size. Memory from older Macintosh
computers is not compatible with the Power Mac G5. Do not use older memory, even if it fits into the DIMM slots.
Appears you installed it correctly. Where did you get the RAM? Mac OS X is picky about RAM quality. Not all RAM of the "correct" part number will work.
 Cheers, Tom

  • New RAM problems with my Dual G4 1.25 MDD

Howdy I've had my Dual G4 1.25 MDD for 2 years and love it. I got it with 1GB RAM, thinking I was set. For Christmas I wanted to Upgrade the RAM to 2GB. from My PowerMac G4 Manual I knew I needed 2x 512MB PC2700 DDR333 CL2.5 SDRAM DIMM's.
I went to DealRam (part of DealMac) and found 18004memory.com The price seemed great $39 per stick. I ordered it and within a week got 2x 512MB DIMM's. Problem was it was the Wrong RAM spec. I tried that RAM in my Mac 30 different ways and Everytime the computer either wouldn't boot, or it would suffer Kernel Protection Faults. One time it did boot up but the RAM only recognized as 2x 256MB DIMM's. I called the company, got an RMA and returned the RAM, this time they sent me 2 replacement DIMM's.... for a POWERBOOK, SO-DIMM's. I returned it again and finally Got from them the
2x 512MB PC2700 DDR333 CL2.5 SDRAM DIMM's. They call it Hyperspeed RAM. Anywho, I powered down let the system cool over night and in the morning, popped it open, put the RAM in the 2 open slots DIMM2/J23 & DIMM3/J20. closed it back up and powered up. Everything was snappier, the boot was quicker and I checked About this Mac, it says 2GB. Apple System Profiler showed all 4 DIMM's and I thought everything was fine.
Computer ran great for hours, no issues. Everything seemed quicker. Computer went to sleep overnight, next day woke from sleep and Tried to use iTunes and during an extensive sort for Songs, the system Locked up. Nothing would work. Had to force restart. this time I tried to Run my favorite online Game, WoW and after it loaded and I started to play, within 5 mins the whole game locked up. The audio sound went into a sort of Loop, I couldnt force quit and had to force reboot. This happened several times. I finally decided to Run the Apple Hardware Test. The Quick test locked up after running 2mins. I let it sit for 1hr just in case it was still doing something and the progress bar and time never progressed. So i forced reboot, ran Test again this time as Extended test. at 8 min & 31 sec the test stopped and I got an Error Code, this time I wrote it down "2MEM/2/4: DIMM3/J20."
I guess that DIMM failed. I shutdown, popped open case, and removed DIMM3/J20 leaving the Original 1GB RAM and One of the 512MB Upgrades. I rstarted the Test again and Ran the Extended Test once more. It ran for 27mins & 24 secs and everything passed. So. 1.5GB is better than just 1GB. I powered down and powered back up to try and play WoW. Within 5 mins of loading game to play, everything locked up again.
So I took both of the new RAM out and left the Original 1GB RAM and ran Test everything was great no Errors. Rebooted, and went onto WoW again and was able to play for several hours. I quit game and shut down for night.
I have since Tried the 2x 512MB DIMM's in over 10 different variations in the computer with and without the original RAM and everytime I run a high end program or game (WoW, iTunes, and Photoshop), I get lock ups, crashes, and other screen weirdness.
I dont want to have to Return the Memory again. I am already out over $15 from s/h with RMA's.
PLEASE Any ideas what to do?
1 thing I noticed the RAM gets very very hot, when I've powered down tand removed the new RAM. I wonder if there is a cooling issue?
Anytime I put the Original 1GB RAM in, I dont have problems!

    Hi lz3broc,
Sounds very much like faulty RAM to me, I'm afraid. I'm not sure about the temperature it's running at, but if the surrounding DIMMs aren't having a problem then I would definitely point the finger at those new memory sticks not being up to scratch.
If you were convinced it was temperature related then you could always try putting heat spreaders on the memory to help with cooling, but as these stick (semi-permanently) to the RAM then you would never be able to return them.
My personal opinion is that you should send the RAM back and buy two new DIMMs from Crucial Technology. I only ever buy RAM made by them and I've never had a problem with it - it's the same stuff Apple themselves generally use and works a charm every time. Probably not the news you wanted to hear, but that's probably the only way you're going to get a stable machine with 2GB RAM.
    Hope that helps,
    Andy.

  • MSI x58 ProE and Corsair 12GB (3x4GB) RAM Issues

    Greetings!
New poster here with a question that I cannot seem to find an answer to anywhere. I've looked over the forums but have had no luck figuring it out. My goal is to identify the culprit and replace the appropriate parts.
I built this computer in 2009 with the intention of doing OpenCL/CUDA computing and handle all my multimedia. At the time, 6GB DDR3 RAM (3x2GB) was about all I could afford. The machine works great, but lately, attempting to do some video and image processing has been hitting limits on my available RAM. I also want to run a linux VM or two. I thought I would order the Corsair 3x4GB DDR3 kit from NewEgg and not have any problems upgrading. I didn't have any plans of running the 6 and 12 GB sets simultaneously because I thought there would be some sort of memory density/timing issues.
New RAM desired: Corsair Dominator with DHX Pro Connector and Airflow II Fan - DDR3 Memory Kit (CMP12GX3M3A1600C9)
Old RAM in system: Corsair Dominator with DHX Pro Connector - 6GB Triple Channel (CMP6GX3M3A1600C8)
Request 1: Can I mix the 6 and 12 GB sets (for a total of 18GB) if I keep the density the same across each set of slots? There are 3 black (primary) and 3 blue (secondary). I was thinking of putting the 12GB in black, and 6GB in Blue.
I placed the order, received it, and went to install it yesterday. Took the existing 6GB out and dropped the 12GB in, saw that BIOS recogized it with the right timings, and proceeded to boot Windows up. Blue-screen at the very first Windows logo. I thought "well that stinks, let's check to see if the RAM is defective through MemTest." Downloaded an ISO of 4.2, fired it up, and it hung right away. Hung in the "Address Test, Own Address" test. Big fat A note: BIOS and MemTest both recognized the full capacity of the sticks.
My next thought was "Well, one of them might be bad, let's try to find out which one." I individually put each one in the first slot on the board, ran MemTest, and showed 0 problems on any tests with each of them.
Summary thus far: Individually, each 4GB stick works perfectly. In combination, they fail. The full 3x2GB set works perfectly.
My next theory was that my board might be bad (even though the 3x2GB set in the same slots has no issues). Knowing that the first slot was good with every bit of memory I put in there, I left a 4GB stick in slot 1, and dropped a 4GB stick in slot 2. MemTest hung again. Thinking it might have been that one stick, I put the other one in there, and it hung also. So, slot 2 looks suspect. Move the sticks to 1&3, and they look fine, but that still leaves me missing 4GB of RAM.
I've followed advice and re-seated the CPU, looked for bent pins (none found), and tried manually setting the timings to the 9-9-9-24 that is printed on the sticks. No luck with any of that.
Request 2: So, my question to you is what am I missing? I feel like the board is the problem, due to the slot 2 problem with the 4GB sticks. However, my 2GB sticks don't have any problems at all in the same slots. Could the 4GB sticks require a little more power that my board might not be pushing out (the board is labeled at 1.5V, the sticks are labeled 9-9-9-24, 1.65V)? Would a bent pin be causing this that my eyes just cannot see? I read somewhere that a guy had a pin that was 0.25mm off that was causing his problems.
Or should I be looking at the memory? The 3x2GB set works fine, but the 3x4GB does not.
I'm not sure what my next step should be other than replace the RAM first, motherboard second. The RAM I just got, so I could RMA it if I knew exactly what the problem was. The motherboard is approaching 3 years old and presumably is out of warranty. I wouldn't mind replacing it, but I don't want to spend money right now if I don't have to.
I don't have a second machine to test on, although I'm trying to locate one (most of my friends don't build custom PCs). I have also tried putting the 6GB in the black slots and 12GB in the blue, but the machine doesn't work with that configuration either.
Request 3: Could someone explain how I could aim for 1066MHz on my RAM? I read that on the X58 Pro-E that this resolves most problems with random bluescreens. When I try to do this, I get lost in the numbers/options within the BIOS.
Anything else I might be missing? I'm out of ideas
Thank you all so much for the help!

    Hi and welcome,
You have 2 "bottlenecks": the processor and the mainboard.

As you can see, above 1066MHz you need to overclock both the processor and the mainboard.
    I think for your config the best shot is 3 x 4GB DDR3-1333 (9-9-9-24 at 1.55-1.60V)

  • RAM ISSUES A215-S7407 - PSAFGU-01V002 SUSPEND MODE ERROR WITH 4GB RAM

Hi, im having some troubles with my laptop.
Because it comes only winth 1GB RAM (512MB x 2) i decided to give it an upgrade to 4GB (Max Capcity) according to specifications details on the support site. So i bought two (2) DIMM Modules KINGSTON 2GB 667MHZ, exact model # KVR667D2S5/2G Everything was working fine until i close the lid and it suspend.
Normally, when i open the lid, it will wake up, and everything will work fine, BUT NOW when it wakes up i have distorted sound and horizontal lines on screen, and sometimes i get a BSOD (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH) and it restart itself.
    TEST THAT I MADE:
ONLY 1 DIMM of 2GB  - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP NORMALLY (I tested both Dimms 2GB separately)
    1 DIMM 2GB / 1 DIMM 1GB (TOTAL 3GB) - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP NORMALLY
2 DIMMs 2GB  (TOTAL 4GB) - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP WITH DISTORTED SOUND AND HORIZONTAL LINES ON DISPLAY.
It seems like the problem appears only with Max. Capacity (4GB) RAM and only when it suspend CLOSE THE LID (POWER LED CHANGE COLOR BLUE TO ORANGE AND FADES AND COMES).
With Hibernation, it works fine, the problem is when it suspend.
It looks that the problem is on the motherboard, maybe a NEW BIOS RELEASE that fix the situation.
I appreciate if somebody can speak to TOSHIBA SUPPORT DEVELOPER and ask them for an BIOS Update.
i know that im not the only one with this problem, there is another person that wrote a post "RAM ISSUES" and refers to the same situation, but as i guess, it wasn't solved at all.

Make sure you install the memory when the light is not flashing, i.e. completly off not sleeping.

  • RAM issues continued

    Hey everyone!
I was just reading an archived post from around this time last year entitled "Strange RAM issue." I too have had a strange RAM issue and specifically with my G4 PowerBook (15", 1GHz) and OWC. I also wanted to upgrade from 512 to 1GB and could never get the machine to work at 1GB. I am currently in the process of sending back my third consecutive OWC brand RAM to them and they are finally going to send me some TechWorks memory that I'm hoping will work. I just can't believe...every single set of memory they've sent me has tested out "fine" to them either after I sent it back or in the latest case even before they sent it to me. But it never works in my computer and always fails the Rember test.
Their latest take on it is that the Rember test isn't always reliable and that it's probably a problem with the memory port in the computer in that it won't accept outside (aka non-Apple) memory. What are some people's thoughts on this? Is it possible that the memory port could work just fine with the original computer's RAM and not with new RAM? Is there any truth to Rember not being all that reliable of a test? (If so, why would they have you use it?)
I'm really getting frustrated with OWC and I was wondering if that's just me or have other people had this same problem?

APPLE HAS A RECALL for this! READ BELOW AND SAVE SOME MONEY!!!!
Anyone with these issues needs to see this link. Apple has a recall going for G4 15" AL PBs because one of the two RAM slots die. Mine has been "fixed" twice under this program. There's a number to call to get started. Be forewarned, the person on the end of that phone is not the sharpest tool in the tool box. I had to show him where the recall was on Apple's site and how to interpret it. He had to keep putting me on hold to check with a Powerbook Expert (his title was only Powerbook Specialist). They send you a nice prepaid DHL 24 hr turn around shipping box. First time was great. Second time it came back covered in sticky. greasy fingerprints and the metal around the case screws has been badly scratched. I'm still waiting for Apple to address this but since they found 3rd party RAM in my PB, this is my punishment. FWIW, if you let it go in the broken state too long, bad things could happen. Something from the corrupted RAM wrote to my HD and ended up causing all sorts of issues. A reformat and reinstall was the only cure. Here's the link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173
A few private repair places on the web get over a grand for this repair. The repair is a complete new main logic board exchange. Big bucks.

  • Ram Issues - First Gen iMac G5

    So here's the situation:
I bought 2 matched 1gb sticks of ram. I installed and my computer crashed, so:
    1. i ran the apple hardware test - result: bad memory
    2. I replaced the old memory - result: A-OK
    3. Re-installed new ram 1 stick at a time, ran hardware test - result: Error, then OK
    4. Booted each of the new ram sticks as the only installed memory, ran Rember - result: 1 bad, 1 good
My iMac is running on the 1 good one currently, and it runs just fine. no issues whatsoever. So i sent an email to the vendor saying "hey, one of these is bad, we need to replace one..." and got back a letter saying "oh, this isnt compatible with your imac, it won't work, pay us an additional $60 and we will upgrade you to ram that will."
Clearly, they did not read the email I sent that included the memory test results. Here's the kicker, they claim that they "checked their database, and then checked google, just to be sure" and the result is that it is incompatible. As I write this using the "incompatible" ram, I find that a tad hard to swallow.
Here's the rub: they give me the option to send the memory back, and they will "test it" and send me a new one if it is defective. If they are unwilling to read my email, what's to say they won't just say "yeah it's fine" and try to charge me some huge fee? Any advice or insights?

In short, I specced the ram. It's listed as a 128x4 density - however, there is nothing that says it would be incompatible, and in fact, my iMac is running off the ram. Figured I'd copy and paste the Rember results here:

  • RAM issues under OSX ML

I updated my MBP (2GHZ i7, 8GB RAM) to OSX ML 10.8.2 some weeks ago. Now I recognized that my system stats say I only had 4GB RAM (2x2GB instead of 2x4GB before) installed. Did somebody have the same issue???

It may be that one of the RAM chips is not being recognized.
What exact model MBP do you have?
What are the RAM specifications of the new RAM?
Switch the two RAM chips and what are the results?
If you have the old RAM, install that and what are the results?
    Ciao.

  • Why doesn't the new ram memory for iMac (mid 2011) work (different brand)?

    Hello,
I have an Macbook pro at home (early 2011) and an iMac (mid 2011).
My macbook pro had 2 x 2GB ram and I wanted it to be higher, zo I bought 2 x 4GB ram from Kingston. I installed it succesfully in the macbook pro.
I saw that the ram in my macbook and iMac where the same type (1333MHz DDR3), so I figured the Ram-modules were interchangable. The iMac has 2 x 4GB ram put in by Apple itself. It's a weird brand name, something Asian that I hadn't heard off.
I thought I could put the original ones from my macbook pro (brand Samsung) in with the original ones that where already in the iMac.
So the slots would look like:
4GB          4GB -> already in iMac, original modules with brand name I can't remember ;-).
2GB          2GB -> original modules from macbook pro Samsung
I also put in in like shown: the same types next to eachother.
Then I turned my iMac on and it only "beeped".
So I tried to put it in different combinations (4GB next to 2GB etc etc). But it still "beeped".
Very frustrating... because I thought I was doing a good thing by buying Kingston (quite expensive also...).
Now I think I had better purchased new 2 x 4GB Samsung and combined that with the 2 x 2GB Samsung from the macbook and put it all in the iMac. And take those of the iMac (2 x 4GB Asian brand) and put those in the macbook... This way it were all the same brands combined...
But I did by Kingston... so... why can't I combine the original iMac ram modules with the Samung modules from the macbook????? I've read that in older iMac models, the slots are sensitive for different brands, but couldn't find out for sure for my iMac (mid 2011). It's a bit stupid, no... Both mac's are from 2011 and have the same specifications...
Could anyone give me an answer?
A little bit mad at Mac right now ;-).
    Thanks in advance!
    Wallking.
PS: if it is about the OSX I'm using... can't update to Maverick for software licence reasons... I need the iMac for work a lot...

    Hello,
I'm sorry if it wasn't clear... but I don't have ram issues with the Kingston type...
I used the new Kinsgtons in my macbook and wanted to take the originals from the macbook (Samsung) and them put in my iMac next to the other modules that were already in the iMac.
    I know it's a bit confusing... ;-)
So... I have 2 x 4gb in my iMac from a brand I can't remember the name off... And I also wanted to put in 2 x 2 GB Samsung modules. So that would count up to 12 GB ram. Why? Because I took the Samsung modules out of my macbook and I thought I could reuse them in my iMac since they have the same specifications (1333MHz DDR3). But My iMac won't start up as soon as I insert those 2 Samsung modules.

  • Random restarts and freezes. Just upgraded my RAM trying to diagnose new RAM as the problem but they pass Rember test.

Hey so I have been dealing with random reboots and computer freezes since upgrading my RAM. I also reinstalled my 10.8.2 at the same time I upgraded my RAM. I have a Mac Mini Mid 2011 with the OWC Data Doubler Kit and a Crucial M4 128GB Boot drive. My computer reboots every 30 minutes or so and sometimes completely freezes up. I am trying to figure out if the new RAM is the issue as I can send them back. I have ran several Rember RAM tests but the computer freezes mid test so I can not see the issue. All other times it completeles the RAM test with no issues.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts on the memory modules when handling them. If necessary, clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.

  • New ram crashes fcp

I just purchased new ram for the second day in a row. I bought four 1 gig ram sticks for my g5 power pc mac. I have a total of 6 gigs. I had previously had two gigs, 4 512 ram sticks.
Under about this mac, my new ram is reongized and other programs recongized the new ram (after effects).
I opened up FCP (5.0.4) project and fcp crashes everytime. I looked up my ram, and it is compatiable with my system. Crucial. i have the ram stickes in the proper slots.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=1D1DFB01A5CA7304
The project I opened in fcp was done befrore the new ram (2 gigs) was installed. Can that be the issue, or is the ram I purchased not compatiable with FCP. At first FCP would crash after opening it, now it takes a few minutes before crashing. Would Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM help? Any tips and insight on installing and ram (ram suggestion) would also help.
Thankyou for taking your time and any suggestions will be helpfull and appericated.

I get our memory from Data Memory Systems in NH.
www.datamem.com not sure what the brand name is...
    My machine has 4 slots.
    DIMM0/J11 512Mb (Pre-installed)
    DIMM1/J12 512Mb (Pre-installed)
    DIMM2/J13 Empty
    DIMM3/J14 Empty
I put a 512Mb chip in J13 & J14... The computer recognizes it, feels fresh and snappy, but without fail, it will crash after a short period of time forcing a 'hard' shutdown with the power button.

  • Macbook Pro 2008 (4,1) RAM issues

    Hello all
I've had some maddening issues with installing new RAM into my Macbook Pro 2008.
    Machine: MBP March 2008 (4,1) , 2.5Ghz, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.7.5
I ordered and installed a pair of 2GB RAM sticks from Crucial, to replace the two 1GB RAM sticks I had installed, to bring my machine up to a total of 4GB. Since doing that, the machine would kernel panic repeatedly (and sometimes start-up with three beeps, indicating memory issues). After checking repeatedly that they must be the right RAM modules for my machine, I got the sticks replaced by crucial, but afterwards I still had the same issue, so I determined it must be the machine's fault.
This started an arduous process of testing and trying to fix every aspect of the machine I could think of, resetting the PRAM, repairing permissions trying different combinations of RAM modules, running all the Disk-warrior and TechTool repairs and diagnostics (its clean), running the machine with no third-party devices attached, safe-boot mode, booting from an external drive, and eventually re-installing the entire operating system and running off a clean install. In all the cases, if I had the 4GB in, the machine would kernel panic. I can't begin to list all the things and combinations I tried in order to isolate the issue, but it seemed the only thing I could determine would guarantee the machine to lock-up was to run it with the 4GB.
I also ran rember utility for several hours, several times while the 4GB sticks were in (and it found nothing).
There is a curious pattern however.
Placing both the 2GB RAM (total for 4GB) modules inside the machine will guarantee a kernel panic. Placing one 2GB module and one 1GB module (total of 3GB) also guarantees a crash. However, using either of the 2GB modules alone, in either of the two slots, is perfectly acceptable. Isn't that strange?
It's almost as if the machine is allergic to having both slots occupied at once, but that doesn't make any sense because before buying the 2GB modules, it ran with two 1GB modules, one in each slot.
I'm going to try putting back in the two original 1GB modules just to see if it can still run. If anyone has any suggestions of anything I can try to get this machine working with its 4GB, I will be EXTREMELY grateful!
    Thank you,
    Andrew
    Andrew

I tried running from 1GB + 1GB, and it ran fine for a few hours, but upon waking from sleep I got the dreaded 3 beeps. This absolutely never happens otherwise, so I know where the problem lies now. The machine is back onto a single 2GB stick and running fine.
My machine won't run with both slots used. I don't know if that is only a hardware problem, if it could be firmware or even some type of software bug, but that is where the issue is.
The RAM I ordered is the right one for my machine, according to the crucial website, and also to their ram scanning tool. They are 2GB 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM 667Mhz sticks, and I'm quite sure those are the right ones for my machine. I will contact them and point them to this thread and se what they say though.
And remember that in this case, it doesn't work with an older module either. 1GB + 2GB crashes. It eventually crashes if I have both slots occupied.

  • After installing new RAM module macbook will not wake without re-start

Im having a little problem with my macbook. It operates normally and the new RAM appears to function as normal except when the computer is in sleep mode, it appears to sleep as normal but when the lid is raised or the power button depressed to wake the system up it will not do so without a full re-start. Any help is much appreciated. I have tried re-setting the PRAM and performing the usual maintenance functions from OnyX.
    Thank you.

Did replacing the RAM fix the problem? I am also experiencing the same issue. The RAM works great when the computer is running but occasionally I cannot get the computer out of sleep mode and must reset the entire machine. Is the only cause of this a bad stick of RAM?

  • 2011 MBP RAM issues

I have a 2011 MBP that has recently been giving me trouble. I replaced the RAM about 8 months ago and up until the past few weeks everything had been working fine. Then it occassionaly started freezing up and beeping 3 times. It also has been randomly shutting down while it is supposed to be asleep with the lid shut. It also has done the 3 beeps when I try to turn it on at times.
So, all of this made me decide to take out the RAM and reinstall the original RAM that it shipped with. When I did this it initially would not start and did the 3 beeps so I flipped the RAM stick position and then everything seemed to be working fine until today.
The computer had been put to sleep with the lid closed and when I pulled it out of my bookbag it was super hot as it had apparently been running while in my bookbag. It also has given me the 3 beeps several times today.
I have run memtest and the Apple Hardware Test (although it took me a while to actually get it to run without freezing) and both say there is no trouble to be found.
BUT, something is definitely wrong. Could two different sets of RAM go bad? I find that very unlikely. Are there any other tests I can perform to figure out the source of the problem? I don't want to purchase more RAM only the 3 beep problem continue...

If you installed bad RAM - you will get the 3 beeps but your Macbook won't boot to your desktop.
It could also mean that one of your RAM slots can also be defective.
You can do a few test if you want but it's time consuming - here's what you can do.
    First - try doing a SMC RESET - if that doesn't work - do a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
if none of the above helps.....Take RAM out of the top slot then restart your Macbook - if your issues are gone - then it could be the top slot or the RAM.  If problem persist - take the RAM out of the bottom slot and install the RAM in the top slot - do this with all your RAM until your issues are gone.
It is possible that both sets of RAM you have can go bad - but highly unlikely unless you've damaged them when you were taking the old RAM out and installing the new RAM in.  ESD - Electro-Static Dischage.
Another thing too is that if your Hard Drive is failing or your OS is corrupted - you will also get 3 beeps and will boot to your desktop.
Most people will tell you your RAM is bad - but, it can also be your RAM slot and it can also be your Hard Drive.
Open disk utility and verify your disk permissions - repair them if errors are found - restart after repairs are done and see if your issues are gone.
Also, verify your disk - if errors are found - do not repair until you back up your hard drive.  Once you've backed up your drive - then repair your disk.
    Good luck

  • HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC - Continuously turns on and off after new ram is inserted repetitively

I have just installed another 4 gb of ram making it 8 gb. It works fine the first time it has started up with the new ram but when it has been turned off with the new ram installed for at least 30 minutes it just refuses the ram and just turns on and off repetitively. I have to take out the new ram and turn on the computer on to get it running again. Once it has had a full start up without the new ram I can insert the new ram again but then this problem consists.

  • Will installing a new RAM chipset offset my Apple Care?

I have been having major lag issues, and a simple sweep of the System Profiler showed that I was running 256 RAM, but a month ago my entire 512 was working. I want to install a new RAM chipset, but I do not want to void my Apple Care. Will installing 2 Gb of Crucial RAM void my coverage?
    -Thanks-

Installing RAM does not void the warranty.
It's probably not the RAM so before you spend the money, see if you qualify for the repair program:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173
If your computer is not within the serial number range, but you're still covered under the original one year warranty or have purchased AppleCare, protection plan, then it's still covered and will be fixed for free.
