New ram not staying in place

I have purchased new ram for my mid 2010 macbook pro. 2 4gb sticks. the bottom slot accepts the first stick just fine. but the top slot will not. I have tried switching the new sticks position and it doesn't hold in place in the top slot. when placing the old memory in that top slot there is no problem. The new memory will just not stay down in the top memory slot. If you have any experience w/ this please let me know. thx

When inserting the new RAM chip, will the top bay not stay in place or is the RAM not recognized?
If the former, are you certain that the new RAM is properly seated?  Sometimes more pressure is necessary with new RAM.
If the latter, a trip to an Apple store may be the best option.  There may be a mechanical adjustment that may have to be made.
Ciao.

  • Battery will not stay in place

My iBook battery keeps falling out, and it will not stay in place unless taped. I'm not within my 90-day warranty period, but I am within my one-year warranty period. Any advice on how I can contact a hardware specialist without paying a fee? Should I just buy a new battery?

I suppose they may help. But when my G5 started choking on memory because of a firmware update, I called. I was within the 1 yr. warranty. The Apple tech told me he couldn't help and I should take it in to an Apple authorized repair shop. That's what they're supposed to do. In the end, bring it in.

  • A week or so ago I upgraded some apple software and now Safari drops my news bookmarks folder. I can restore it from Time Machine but it will not stay in place. Suggestions?

My iMac, running 10.10.3 seems to have an interesting issue.  Since the last round of apple updates[ including photos 1.0]safari has been dropping my "News" bookmarks folder.  It disappears on restart or when trying to add a bookmark to any folder. I am able to restore it with time machine and it will stay in place until all of a sudden .I notice it is once again gone.  Restore and its back.  Quite a pain in the butt.  Any suggestions on a more permanent fix would be appreciated.

Thanks, wife has iPad on holiday so I could not check it. iCloud occurred to me but I am fairly new to it as prior to iPad we had no need of it.  Thanks again Linc,   I've tried it a couple of times this afternoon and it seems to be sticking around.  Hugh

  • Front Panel objects do not stay in place after saving, closing, and reopening the VI.

I have been working with a couple of versions of a main VI. The original VI was given to me so that I could add additional functionalities to it. I had been designing the front panel of the latest version of the VI on a Dell laptop running Windows 7 and LabView 2011 SP1 using a monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080. My booleans, numerics, and plots on the front panel had always stayed in place after saving, closing, and reopening the VI. Once in the field, I connected my laptop to a cRIO9073 and used my laptop screen with a resolution of 1366x768 to operate the VI. I made some changes to the VI, saved it, and reopened it. This time I noticed that the front panel objects had become overlapped, resized, and generally rearranged. I tried fixing the objects but I noticed that they reverted back to the incorrect positions after saving and reopening the VI. I was successful in keeping the objects in position a couple of times, but when I would open the VI at a later time, the objects were again rearranged. This is happening on both my monitor and laptop screen. The original version of the VI, however, does not behave this way and I have opened it on both my monitor and laptop screen. In this version, the front panel objects always stay in place. Both VI's have the same window size properties. Could I have corrupted the latest version of my VI somehow? Below are screenshots of the front panels of both VI's.

    Hi Miguel,
It is possible to programmatically set or change the position of front panel objects. (for example: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4D0DA06B43195B3F862572F3000AF2D3?OpenDocument) However, if you haven’t intentionally done that, it seems unlikely that it is the problem.
Have you tried copying the entire block diagram in to a new VI to see if the problem persists? While it is unlikely, you are right that it is possible for VIs to become corrupted. I’ve never heard of a situation like this except in the situation where the settings Tom had you check have been changed. Here is some information about those settings:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/7567EF257B9CFDF986256F630073228F?OpenDocument
Since there was no rearrangement when you copied the front panel to a new VI, you might try copying the block diagram a little bit at a time to see if there is some particular part of it that creates the problem somehow.

  • New ram not showing up in MacPro 1,1

I bought new ram for an old MacPro 1,1 and only the old ram shows up. I know the new ram works as I can start my computer with each individual stick but they wont work together. Any idea? I can move my old 512chips to any slot and it works so I’ve ruled out bad slots. The new ram chips work but only one shows up. I have switched them out too and both work so Ihave know idea what’s going on. Hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advance.

Brand A and B not working together or even same but from different batches, can happen.
Each SET will work fine, you can't do "individually".
I've seen people use A1:B1 and A3:B3 which is not supported, yet has worked.
Or all RAM on top Riser.
As far as I know the Risers are interchangeable, there is no "A" and "B" other than "top" and "bottom" and some have had to do an advance exchange and get a new Riser sent out under AppleCare.
Get out your OEM 10.4.7 discs and one of them has Apple Hardware Test, use "command-D" with the DVD in the tray.
No, you don't need a battery.
It just sounds like a defective set. You bought OWC, Crucial, Kingston, Mac Pro certified (and large RAM heatsinks) then just contact seller and have them send them back as DOA.

  • New Ram Not Reading

Just installed new ram and it does not show up in system profiler
    its an ibook g4 1.33ghz
    built in 256
put in a 1gb samsung card and it wont show that i instaled it
still says that i have 256
    do i need some firmware

Thanks alot for the help! I just installed 512mb of ram in mu iBook. At first it was not showing up on my system profiler even though I had installed it. I went back after reading your thread especially about paying attention to page 6 of the instructions and it clicked in all the way. Now I have 786 mb of ram. I guess I could have just bought 256 mb and installed it but I didn't know that the original 256 mb was built in. I bought my ram from Apple just to be safe and it came really fast (less than a week), plus there was free shipping and I had a $10 off coupon code that I found out from iLounge. Next I will probably upgrade my hard drive since I only have 30gb.

  • New RAM not working

I have a macbook pro 13 inch from mid 2010, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz. I recently got a 1 TB WD Scorpio Blue for it that made a loud buzzing noise and after having the OS installed, wouldn't boot properly. I will be exchange this drive for a new one of the same type because I know it works since it worked in my sister's MBP mid 2009.
I also got some 2x4G of mushkin RAM (996644) for the computer. This is not apple certified but fits all the required specifications. The guy at the store told me that apple approved memory is the same thing just tested on a mac giving them an excuse to charge mor for it so this saved me six bucks. I tried installing both the hard drive and the ram and I got a POST error of one beep which means a RAM problem. I reinstalled the ram and instead of a POST error I got a black screen with no sounds. The LED was on. I put the old RAM in and it worked letting me install the OS. The hard drive had problems so I took it out, put the old one back in and the new RAM in. Same black screen.
Is there any solution here, or is the RAM defective and should I get a new chips?

If the old RAM works and the new does not, it makes no sense to keep it.  The two most reliable sources for MBP RAM are OWC and Crucial.
Sometimes inexpensive RAM does work but as you can see what you have is a lemon.  To a degree the sales person was correct, biut only that Apple does charge a lot for the RAM they sell.  I suggest spend a bit more and get the afore mentioned RAM.  If you search Amazon.com, the Crucial prices are quite good,
    The RAM specifications for a 2010 MBP are:   204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
    Ciao.

  • TS3253 The new iPad not staying connected to a Motorola Droid connects then disconnects, but stays connected to iPhone 4s.

Was wondering why device will not stay connected?

It's in the Bluetooth device list and shows connected and after a time it disconnects. The device is a Motorola Roadster.

  • SLI clip failure, SLI mode selector card will not stay in place

Sometime overnight, the rubber clip securing my SLI mode selector card failed, and now the card won't stay seated in the socket.
Part of the clip that seats through the motherboard broke, and now I cannot use the clip at all. Where would I obtain replacements for this piece?
    -El Queso

I have a few extra ones that came with my motherboard. they were in a little plastic pouch, did you not get any included? i would call MSI and ask them to mail you some, otherwise, i would gladly mail you a few myself.

  • Added new RAM - now old RAM not recognised

I've seen several posts where people have had problems with new ram not being recognised, but my problem is this: Following advice from http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacProMemoryDIMMDIY.pdf and http://homepage.mac.com/tribe3/.Pictures/MemConfig.jpg, I added 2x1GB Crucial ram to my MacPro today. I put the new sticks on the top riser where the factory-fitted 2x512MB sticks were, and put the 512's in corresponding slots on bottom riser. Now System Profiler shows this:
    DIMM Riser A/DIMM 1:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: OK
    DIMM Riser A/DIMM 2:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: OK
    DIMM Riser A/DIMM 3 & DIMM4:
    Size: Empty
    Type: Empty
    Speed: Empty
    Status: Empty
    DIMM Riser B/DIMM 1, DIMM 2, DIMM3 & DIMM4:
    Size: Empty
    Type: Empty
    Speed: Empty
    Status: Empty
Not sure how to proceed with this, and I don't enjoy the "thrill" of opening up the Mac so I'd welcome suggestions at this point. In particular, is it a good idea to zap the PRAM at this point? Is there any way of checking if Riser B is defective?
    Thanks in anticipation
    Jim

OK- I think I'll just go with it as it is for now. I'll have a chance at the weekend to hammer it with Photoshop and see how it copes. I ran Lightroom this afternoon, and it really was much faster than previous to the upgrade. I'll time its performance in PS with a Photomerge of 24-shots @ 10.1 megapixels each. If it copes with that, and I get the sort of performance boost I'd expect, I'll leave Memtest for now.
BTW - your statements "Memtest is a better choice" and " AHT is good for finding hardware compatibility issues and sometimes finds things (in 30 minutes) that no amount of Memtest would" seem to contradict. Or am I misunderstanding?
    Thanks again for your help

  • I have a officejet j4680 All-In-One printer. I cannot get the black ink cartridge to stay in place

The black ink cartridge will not stay in place it keeps popping out when I place the color ink cartridge first. When I take the color cartridge out and put the black ink cartridge in it stays.
Is there a trick to replacing the black ink cartridge?

Make sure it is a genuine HP cartridge.  Take it out and clean the contact on the cartridge and in the printer.  Try again.

  • Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click  on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?

Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click  on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?

Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
    Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.

  • When i customize my toolbar and close, the icons are not in the places i put them. how do i make my toolbar set up stay in place?

below file/edit/view/history/bookmarks/tools/help menu line, on second line I have added icons for print, reopen closed tab, session manager, (xmarks)synchronize now, my xmarks, home, duckduckgo, woolik search, stumbleupon, you tube, do not track me, mask me, better privacy, https addon, zoom out zoom in, back forward, private browsing toggle. on the third line i have added icons for gmail-open in a new tab, gmail checker, gmail notifier, last pass and the address bar. there are 2 to 4 separator lines between the icons, grouping like icons, i.e., security, search engines, gmail, etc. each time i close Firefox and then reopen, the icons are no longer in the order i placed them, with separators, or they are not visible and i have to r.click. select "customize," and re-drag and drop the icons and separators where i want them. i am a very, very beginner at this all, but drag and drop i know. why don't the icons/seperators stay in place??

  • Dock Icons will not stay in their place (CPU?)

I have been having an issue with random dock icons not staying in their place. I move an icon to a place that makes it arranged correctly in terms of grouping or importance and it "slides" back to it's original place almost immediately. Or I will move one and start arranging and all of a sudden one will slide to the right side or something.
I finally got a chance to troubleshoot this and did a google search.
I have for a very long time had DOCK SYNC TURNED OFF.
Now I have gotten into the MBP and LOGGED OUT of my MobileMe account and it STILL does this. It has been happening since I bought the computer new. I have other issues related to battery life and beachballs and hot computer or hot power charger of loud fan so I put another 4 GIGS in the machine recently so that it now has 8.
Mac phone support says they want to walk me through checking the CPU but I have done this routine like three times on this computer where I set up a User Account and I have done a FRESH INSTALL twice since I bought it. Last week I finally caught a break in the schedule to bring it in and they say the Hardware is fine.
I mean, it is odd but I don't consider this machine to be what I would consider a "pro" line but at the same time I see that this dock thing is happening on my MacPro (albeit while I am still logged into my MobileMe account).
Thoughts or suggestions? I don't want to take the time to bring it in if I don't have to.

yup. bizarre. logged out of MobileMe and I try to move the Keychain Icon from the third on the left to the last on the right and -whoooo-oop - it slides back to the left. no fun. like having a gremlin moving books around in my library or something...

  • Hi All, I have question about the iMac operating system. I have the last updated. The problem when I manage the place of the folder windows they are all mixing up. I mean they not on the place where I left them. how to set they stay on the same place. Tks

Hi All, I have question about the iMac operating system. I have the last updated. The problem when I manage the place of the folder windows they are all mixing up. I mean they not on the place where I left them. how to set they stay on the same place? I know there are different possibilities to set.
I tried but it not helped for me. What I can do? How and where can set this they stay on their place?
    Thanks.
    laci

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
