New RAM, still tons of errors

I had posted back a month or two ago about having some major stability trouble with my system.  After using Memtest86 3.1a I found my single stick of Corsair Value Select (512MB PC3200) was giving me lots of errors on test 5.  I tired checking and changing the timings, using different slots, even threw in some of my roomates memory with some very strange results.  With his OCZ 256 PC3200 stuff it worked fine with the BIOS settings to auto.  On the other hand, his one stick of Corsair XMS 256 PC3200 wouldn't even detect.  With the general consensus being that it was my RAM, I had it RMAed back to Newegg.  Well, got the retail replacement the other day and guess what?  It's still doing it!  Using Memtest on test 5 I get errors for nearly every Meg of the memory--my last result was 256,200.  Again I tested my roomies stuff, and the OCZ was flawless for 10 passes while the XMS failed to boot at all.  Seems like my comp has a grudge against Corsair or something, but my guess is it must be either the BIOS or the motherboard itself.  I'd really prefer to know where the problem lies before having to RMA anything else.

Dram drive strenght is the signal strenght level of the signalling on the memory bus .
Altering this could have a positive effect and shold not be left untried.
You find it in the bios cell menu.
If it's not shown it must be unhidden , with holding down the shift key
and a press on F2 , followed by holding down alt key and press F3 .
Shift + F2
Alt + F3
Over at corsair ram guy forum , sad to say , but i saw that there is many posts
about their value ram causes problem for alot of builders .
To get on you can just set max memory frequency from auto to 166 (cell menu/dram).
Then it will run 166/DDR333 and you will get the win install fixed/finished.

  • Adding new RAM on mobo P6N SLI MS-7350

    I have a MSI P6N SLI MS-7350 mobo with 2x1GB ddr2 800MHz PC6400 RAM (XMS6405v5.1 5-5-5-12 Corsair)
I thought I had bought the exact same ram as in my pc, but now I see that it is not the same.
    The ram I bought is the following: Corsair 2x1GB ddr2 800MHz PC6400 4-4-4-12 2.10V ver6.3
The new ram cards are plugged in the orange slots and the old in the green slots of my mobo.
When I boot my pc, it boots very slow with 4 slots filled.
    Things I have done:
    1. memtest with 4 slots filled -> passed, 0 errors
    2. Removed my old ram and replaced it with my new ram (still 2GB ram)
    Weird things...
-Pc boots up untill windows green load-bar (just before the vista logo)
        -> pc restarts
    - on restart I can see the initialisation of my ram, disks, ... but after that screen I get a black screen with in the top left a blinking line (the sort of underscored line you get when you can type things, don't know how this is called...) and it stayed on this screen
    - Turned off the pc and just booted up
I could get in windows, saw my desktop, etc... but after a few minutes -> BLUE SCREEN!
    - Switched back to my old ram -> no problems
I've read on some sites that I should configure the ram voltage, but I'm not sure how to do this...

I've ran the Orthos test now for 11h30 and I can see things like this:

And almost the same for CPU1
It has been doing it for 3/3 rounds.
I will let it run for another 30 minutes, but I expect no changes.
But is there a way to test the speed of the ram (read/write)?
Because I think it's not running the fastest way possible...

  • Pavilion G6 won't accept my new ram

Okay so i have a new Pavilion G6 ca-2288, has A10 APU in it 750gb HDD an 8gb ram.
So i was using quite abit of ram tho not more then 60% whenever i looked, but decided today id get some faster ram, so i got 8gb of 1866mhz with tighter timings then my stock ram. This to me seems to be no issue ive put the same ram and same brand into my moms and brothers laptops already my moms is very very old dual core hp pavilion and it took the same ram that mine won't accept....
Is this an issue from hp's turbo core? I noticed turbo core is installed by default and when i turn it off threw AMD Overdrive it just turns itself back on... what if i dont want it on why would it turn itself back on... anyways turbo core clocks the ram to somwere in the 8xxmhz range until it feels it needs to increase the mhz and same with my APU it will keep stock clocks until it feels a stock oc is needed and does so.
Anyways i got Corsair 2x4GB 1866mhz ram and would really like to use it in my brand new $750 laptop... considering my brother and mom have the same ram in theirs and all is fine i should also be able to... Brothers is a Asus moms is a Pavilion, the hp pavilion uses a athlon dual core still like its friken old so thats why i think its something to do with the installed turbo core that i cant turn off its frustrating.
Also this ram supposed to have a feature that auto changes bios since its laptop ram and laptops in most cases have to ability to change the mhz and timings so this ram when i install it trys to change the bios for me and it works on the Asus and old Pavilion but in my Pavilion G6 i think its causeing a issue with turbo core maybe.... help pls

I have windows 8 installed, doesnt tell me what version
When I'm on destop and drag the moust to the bottom left corner, and right click, then click system it opens a page similar to if i right clicked on "my computer" and clicked on properties.
On that page under Windows Version i get: "Windows 8" and nothing more then that.
Is probably just basic windwos 8 version, the BIOS did a self recovery after i installed the ram and it crashed, didn't allow the new ram still though, i gave up on trying 1866mhz ram and went to 1600mhz wich is what it had but this aftermarket brand atleast gives me some better timings and heat dicipation.
    Old RAM: 11-12-12-35 1600mhz
    New RAM: 9-9-10-24 1600mhz
So I still got somewhat of a performance increase, tho since I've got a AMD A10 APU installed in the laptop i would have much more preffered 1866mhz 10-10-10-30 timings that i was trying to put into the laptop before so i got speed and timings benefits for my aGPU to take advantage of but I was informed that most laptops dont accept 1866mhz ram, atleast most normal laptops, aparently only fairly high end expensive laptops are just now starting to accept 1866mhz ram speeds wich really kinda sucks they should be more flexible like a desktop... I was running 1866mhz long ago in my desktop how come laptops havent caught up in that aspect...? I'd be alot happier with my purchase had it accepted the 1866mhz ram. I was going to purchase a HP Envy M6 AMD A10 APU w/ Descrete graphics dual graphics until i discovered that it probably also wount accept 1866mhz speeds even tho its quite expensive...
Going back to custom built desktops were i can do what i want when i want. Cant beat that desktop power and felixibility.

  • Installed new RAM, iPhoto still saying I have no memory...huh?

    Hello,
I took my MacBook (early 2008) to the Apple store.  They told me I had enough memory to install Snow Leopard, but it would run very slow.  Note: I had 10.6.3 installed for a long while and it just kept getting slower, so that's originally why I took it there.  So I had the hard drive wiped clean and Re-installed everything (the box set), all on the hardrive.  I ordered the RAM that I was told to, he gave me the part number and everything.
So even before I got the new RAM, I tried to import my saved pictures to iPhoto.  iPhoto gave me this error message:
iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library.
I hoped when I installed the new RAM that this would solve the problem... but it didn't, I still got the message.  I even tried just importing 1 photo and it gave me the same message.
    What to do?  I'm confused.
    Please Help!  Thanks,
    Leslie S.

You are confusing short term memory (RAM) with long term storage (Hard Drive), the message is referring to permanant storage space (Hard Drive) adding Ram will make no difference.
How much space is left on your hard drive, and how large is it in total. Right click on your hard drive (usually called MacintoshHD) and select get info,, you'll see a panel just like this:
Tell us what it says next to 'Capacity' and 'Available'

  • I have updated my PSE9 and still can not open the RAW files from my new camera, I get an error?

I bought a new camera (Canon T5i) and took photos in RAW, tried to open them in PSE9 and they wouldn't open. I got the following error...
Canon RAW Codec found a new CR2 file that is not supported by the installed version.
You can download the Canon RAW Codec update program from the link below.
    (Canon Server)
I have been to the link & downloaded what update it had. I have also done the available updates on my PSE9 and I am still getting this error messge. When I called Canon regarding this they said I needed to contact Adobe.
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or not doing so I can open these files???

The T5 is supported by Camera RAW 8.4 which needs PSE12. You can use the Canon software to convert RAW to TIF or the Adobe DNG Converter. The converter will convert the CR2 files to Adobes RAW DNG format that will open in PSE9's RAW processor. http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html#downloads.

  • New RAM installed but System Profiler still seeing old RAM

    Hi
Recently put in a new hard drive after the last one failed. The new RAM, equaling 3GB, was installed on my iMac C2D 24" BEFORE the failure. I got it back from the shop today and checked to see if the RAM was still recognised. The System Profiler is showing 1GB or RAM, 512 in each slot, and the serial numbers match the RAM that came with the computer originally.
I'm running Snow Leopard and haven't noticed anything running slow. Is this just a glitch in the matrix?

So you are saying the original DIMMs are there plus the ones you added, all were recognized before the repair but only the Apple-supplied after the repair.
Just trying to keep all of this straight in my mind.
In that case, you might try removing the DIMMs you installed and reinstalling, one at a time and see if they are recognized. If they are not, then they may have gone bad for some reason, who knows why, and it is time to look at the warranty you have from the people from whom you purchased the DIMMs.
If it was someone like Crucial or OWC (macsales) they are really good about their lifetime warranty.
If the warranty is lifetime, contact the supplier and see what the process is for replacement.
It is strange that both would work, and then fail. But stranger things have happened with computers.

If you no longer have the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store,  deauthorise all five, (Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)  and then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time.

  • New RAM problems with my Dual G4 1.25 MDD

Howdy I've had my Dual G4 1.25 MDD for 2 years and love it. I got it with 1GB RAM, thinking I was set. For Christmas I wanted to Upgrade the RAM to 2GB. from My PowerMac G4 Manual I knew I needed 2x 512MB PC2700 DDR333 CL2.5 SDRAM DIMM's.
I went to DealRam (part of DealMac) and found 18004memory.com The price seemed great $39 per stick. I ordered it and within a week got 2x 512MB DIMM's. Problem was it was the Wrong RAM spec. I tried that RAM in my Mac 30 different ways and Everytime the computer either wouldn't boot, or it would suffer Kernel Protection Faults. One time it did boot up but the RAM only recognized as 2x 256MB DIMM's. I called the company, got an RMA and returned the RAM, this time they sent me 2 replacement DIMM's.... for a POWERBOOK, SO-DIMM's. I returned it again and finally Got from them the
2x 512MB PC2700 DDR333 CL2.5 SDRAM DIMM's. They call it Hyperspeed RAM. Anywho, I powered down let the system cool over night and in the morning, popped it open, put the RAM in the 2 open slots DIMM2/J23 & DIMM3/J20. closed it back up and powered up. Everything was snappier, the boot was quicker and I checked About this Mac, it says 2GB. Apple System Profiler showed all 4 DIMM's and I thought everything was fine.
Computer ran great for hours, no issues. Everything seemed quicker. Computer went to sleep overnight, next day woke from sleep and Tried to use iTunes and during an extensive sort for Songs, the system Locked up. Nothing would work. Had to force restart. this time I tried to Run my favorite online Game, WoW and after it loaded and I started to play, within 5 mins the whole game locked up. The audio sound went into a sort of Loop, I couldnt force quit and had to force reboot. This happened several times. I finally decided to Run the Apple Hardware Test. The Quick test locked up after running 2mins. I let it sit for 1hr just in case it was still doing something and the progress bar and time never progressed. So i forced reboot, ran Test again this time as Extended test. at 8 min & 31 sec the test stopped and I got an Error Code, this time I wrote it down "2MEM/2/4: DIMM3/J20."
I guess that DIMM failed. I shutdown, popped open case, and removed DIMM3/J20 leaving the Original 1GB RAM and One of the 512MB Upgrades. I rstarted the Test again and Ran the Extended Test once more. It ran for 27mins & 24 secs and everything passed. So. 1.5GB is better than just 1GB. I powered down and powered back up to try and play WoW. Within 5 mins of loading game to play, everything locked up again.
So I took both of the new RAM out and left the Original 1GB RAM and ran Test everything was great no Errors. Rebooted, and went onto WoW again and was able to play for several hours. I quit game and shut down for night.
I have since Tried the 2x 512MB DIMM's in over 10 different variations in the computer with and without the original RAM and everytime I run a high end program or game (WoW, iTunes, and Photoshop), I get lock ups, crashes, and other screen weirdness.
I dont want to have to Return the Memory again. I am already out over $15 from s/h with RMA's.
PLEASE Any ideas what to do?
1 thing I noticed the RAM gets very very hot, when I've powered down tand removed the new RAM. I wonder if there is a cooling issue?
Anytime I put the Original 1GB RAM in, I dont have problems!

    Hi lz3broc,
Sounds very much like faulty RAM to me, I'm afraid. I'm not sure about the temperature it's running at, but if the surrounding DIMMs aren't having a problem then I would definitely point the finger at those new memory sticks not being up to scratch.
If you were convinced it was temperature related then you could always try putting heat spreaders on the memory to help with cooling, but as these stick (semi-permanently) to the RAM then you would never be able to return them.
My personal opinion is that you should send the RAM back and buy two new DIMMs from Crucial Technology. I only ever buy RAM made by them and I've never had a problem with it - it's the same stuff Apple themselves generally use and works a charm every time. Probably not the news you wanted to hear, but that's probably the only way you're going to get a stable machine with 2GB RAM.
    Hope that helps,
    Andy.

  • Three Beeps that will not go away after new RAM is installed

I have an old eMac I am trying to fix up. I got the three beep error message instead of the Macintosh startup BOOM. After finding this document on the website <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547> I thought it meant bad RAM. So I got two brand new 512mb since it appears to be this unit’s maximum <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134390> . The eMac appears to be the 1.25ghz model (M9461LL/A). After I installed the new RAM, I am still getting the three beeps error message. Anyone have any ideas what this might going on?

If the eMac has not worked before for you, then maybe the logic board is gone as two bad banks would more indicate bad circuitry than two defective modules.
You could try Resetting the PRAM and NVRAM.
Also, make sure you have fully seated the RAM modules in all the way, they do require some gentle force, and failing that ... be glad that RAM is cheap today and you haven't done a lot of money.

  • Constant Kernel Panics.. even with new RAM?

So I was at the genius bar yesterday and they told me they were going to run a huge diagnostic test on my late 2008 Macbook Pro. They assumed it was the RAM and gave me good info on where to order it from. I ordered 8gb RAM because I figured, why not upgrade?
They called me today, said it was the RAM malfunctioning. I go back to the store, they put in the new RAM.. I come home and everything is GREAT. woohoo! and then... a few hours later, it started again. I mean really?
I just added 8gb new RAM and am still having kernel panics. what is going on?
It's so random. and It doesn't make much sense.
    Any advice, anyone?

  • Error when I try to open Firefox. Says Firefox is running in the background and cannot open. Suggests closing that window or restart system. This has happened several times recently. I reinstalled but am still getting the error. Any thoughts?

I am getting an Error when I try to open Firefox that Says Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. This has happened several times recently. I deinstalld and reinstalled but am still getting the error. Any thoughts?

This happens to me as well. However, I have a shortcut on my desktop as well as my quick start bar. When this has happened to me, I can usually log back in without restarting, by using the shortcut on the desktop rather than the usual quick start bar.
I know this sounds weird, but it has worked for me about 80% of the time.

  • Kernel Panic Message...Caused by new RAM???

Hey guys, just purchased 2x1gb ram from otherworldcomputing.com for my powerbook G4, im currently running the latest version I can possibly run which is 10.5.8  Everything seemed great when I put the RAM in, seemed like my computer was running pretty fast campared to the 512gb that came with the computer.  All of a sudden, while im searching the web, it throws that kernel panic message up at me.  I restarted and a few minutes later while im still on the web, bam, the same message.
I am currently in safe mode while Im writing this and nothing has happened yet(update:a few mintues after I finished typing this thread I received the same message, I have turned the computer off and jumped on my wiftes computer to type this I am thinking about putting the original 512mg ram back in to see if I get the message again)
Wierd, the first few days witht the new RAM everything seemed fine and then all of a sudden I got those messages.  I have never had the problem ever before so it makes sense that its gotta be the new RAM right?  Here are my specs

To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Random restarts and freezes. Just upgraded my RAM trying to diagnose new RAM as the problem but they pass Rember test.

Hey so I have been dealing with random reboots and computer freezes since upgrading my RAM. I also reinstalled my 10.8.2 at the same time I upgraded my RAM. I have a Mac Mini Mid 2011 with the OWC Data Doubler Kit and a Crucial M4 128GB Boot drive. My computer reboots every 30 minutes or so and sometimes completely freezes up. I am trying to figure out if the new RAM is the issue as I can send them back. I have ran several Rember RAM tests but the computer freezes mid test so I can not see the issue. All other times it completeles the RAM test with no issues.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
