New Reader XI

New reader XI will not down load or open pdf's - i use XP w/ SP-3, solutions please?

Thank you very much. as it turned out I went back to 9.5, my attempts at
downloading a "newer device driver" only yielded: ".unable to evaluate your
system hardware" and manually trying to find other Options proved another
Rabbit Hole - it seems that "you can't teach an old dog (i.e.
computer) new tricks", though I keep trying. You were a lot of help and I
could not have done it without you. Good Day to you.

  • New Reader DC has major problems

I downloaded the new reader & immediately had problems opening existing PDF files. Documents Printed as PDFs to be saved to a file started automatically opening after the file saved. Finally uninstalled & reinstalled Reader 11.. But now all files  printed as PDFs to a file open & have to physically closed. This has really messed up ,y work flow.

Either thru the "save as" or "print". They all open after they have been saved.

  • Can't install Adobe ID on a new reader

I got a new reader and try to install my Adobe ID on some ebook reader apps ( Android). I got the message " too many installations". How can I reset the counter to install the Adobe ID on my new tablet?

or as a slight short cut try http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=digital-editions&topic=using-my-product-or-ser vice
Click on 'I still need help' and then you should see 'Chat with an Agent' at the bottom of the page.
'Ask our experts' will indeed just lead you back to this forum.
Sometimes you will get ‘Sorry! All agents are busy— please check back soon.’
Don’t refresh the page, just hang on and it should eventually go to ‘Chat Now, and agent is available’.
They can reset your authorizations, and then you must reauthorize any devices you still need.
(Unfortunately, Adobe haven’t got round to an admin website for viewing and editing authorizations.)
    Some of the representatives haven't been properly trained and don't know what to do (and claim there is nothing they can do);
in that case the only way seems to be to give up that chat and try another session hoping for a properly trained representative.
If your problem is with another device using Overdrive, Bluefire, Aldiko or similar third party app, it is recommended not to mention that app when on the chat, just mention that you have run out of authorizations  (E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS) .  Thanks to AJP_Bear for that tip.

  • RSS/news reader for the N97 Mini?

I use Google Reader a lot for keeping up with news and developments in my field.
However, it's a real pain to access Google Reader through the built-in browser in the N97 Mini. And there seems to be no simple, straightforward way to insert all the feeds (on my gReader account) into the phone.
Are there any news reader (RSS, Atom) applications for Symbian/Nokia phones that you would recommend?
There are many excellent free RSS-reader apps for the iPhone and Windows Mobile, but I can't seem to find a half-decent one for Nokia phones.  Even a search on Ovi Store only brought up two. Both are not free and don't have spectacular reviews. (If I'm going to pay for it, I want to know it's a great, bug-free application first!)
     Thanks.

the best out there is currently google reader. its not an online app, but more of a webpage, the interface is similar to the full blown google reader. visit www.google.com/reader from the default web browser.

  • Is it possible to use a News Reader

I would like to be able to read these forums via a Thunder bird or a news reader? Is this possible and if so what is the site address?
    Thanks

I completely agree. Granted some of this lost functionality may be my own lack of understanding on how to completely configure this. With a news group I put in the link to the news groups, See the entire list of forums and check the ones I want to join, then I can select to download the entire history of each of the groups, bam I'm done. They are neatly organized and threaded easy to search and they are separate from my daily email. I keep thunder bird up all day long and all I have to do is click on a forum and in 5 seconds it updates all activity in that forum.
With the RSS feeds I have to go to each forum and select the RSS button to join it. This then sends every message to my email account which I don't want (I use a web client to check my email and thunderbird for news groups) and it also shows up in thunderbird under a Blogs & News Feeds. None of these messages are threaded, although this may be a Thunderbird issue. RSS seems fine if you have an issue and you want to immediately be notified if someone has replied to your issue.
I wish News readers were the defacto standard it would be wonderful to just open up thunderbird and have all of my forums in one place rather than having every vendor have a different web interface you need to learn and having to remember seperate user names and password and my favorite is when I have to type in S$88AX12FP etc. just to reply to some thread. Or you have to give people points or you have to select if the question has been answered.

  • Any plan to release new reader with front light?

I want to buy a new reader for my son.
Since I'm quite happy with my sony ereader,
I'm considering buying one from Sony,
but my son insists that he should get one
    with front light.
I wondering if there is any possibility that
Sony releases one with front light in near future.

    Hello,

We can only answer questions on drivers, products, and assistance with products that have already been released to the public and cannot provide an answer to future events, nor can we provide a guess when or if any of these features will be implemented.

  • Blackberry RSS News Reader

On my 9800 a bunch of news feeds which I didn't add showed up in my reader and when I delete them they come back. I can't figure out how to permanently delete them. This happened after I loaded the Blackberry RSS News Reader on my new Playbook, I don't know if this related. Any ideas?

Long shot, but is there an option to clear the cache in the news reader options?

  • Spaces in URLs problem w/ new Reader X and XI updates

Can anyone else confirm that with the new Reader X and XI updates, spaces in URLs get encoded as %2520 instead of %20 causing errors when the links are followed?  This  was/is not a problem with the earlier version of X nor with other pdf viewers.  I believe that this is a bug.

I am having the same problem. Details ....
I have created two PDFs in the same folder (I used Power Point to create the contents, and saved as PDF). I want to be able to click a link in the first PDF and cause the second PDF to be opened.
Everything works fine if there are no blank spaces in the filename of the second PDF (i.e., the target of the link in the first PDF), and no blank spaces in any part of the full path to the second PDF.
The problem occurs if there are blank spaces in the second PDF's filenames or full path.
If there are blank spaces (in either filename or path), then when I open the first PDF and hover over the link to the second (target) .... I can see that FOR THE PATH, each blank space has been converted to a %20. FOR THE FILENAME of the target PDF, the blank space shows as a blank space (i.e., not shown as a %20).
When I click the link in the first PDF, my default browser (Firefox 19.0.2) opens and displays a dialog box tells me that it cannot find the file in question (i.e., the second PDF).
The file name in the dialog box has each blank space (in both filename and path) converted to a %20 .... HOWEVER, the contents of the browser's address bar has each blank space converted to a %2520.
It is that address of the second PDF shown in the browser's address bar (with each blank replaced by a %2520) that cannot be found. If I manually alter the contents of the address bar, and remove each 25 (so that each blank is replaced only by a %20) and then hit the Enter key, the second PDF is successfully displayed in the browser.
Firefox now has it's own PDF viewer. However, I disabled the internal Firefox PDF viewer, and set the default PDF viewer to the Adobe viewer. Problem did not go away. So, I do not think the fault is in the Firefox PDF viewer.
The previous post stated that Adobe has acknowledged this as a bug. Any word on when/if the bug will be fixed.
The only work-around I have found is to use filenames and paths that have no blanks. But if one is creating PDFs for customers, then while one might be able to use filenames with no blanks, one cannot insure that customers will not place the PDFs into folders that have noblanks in their paths.
Any other suggestions while we wait for a fix?

    Re: That garbage is unreadable.
If you really want help, stop messing with the fonts and post so that others can read and offer suggestions.
Or better yet... try a search, I'm certain you'll find a solution to whatever issue you're experiencing.
I have found that many times it is the things that make you most angry that push you to action. This was the case here. Thank you for causing me to get so angry that I found the answer myself.

  • I can open pdf files in emails, but not on websites. I have the new Reader.

I can open pdf files in emails, but not on websites, as I was able to a couple of weeks ago. On websites I get the message, "Adobe Acrobat has crashed". I downloaded the new Adobe Reader and that didn't help. I don't have Adobe Acrobat, on Adobe Reader.

Windows 7, Google Chrome and the most recent Adobe Reader (just downloaded the same day). The problem is with Google Chrome, as Fire Fox works fine. I tried enabling and disabling what would read pdf files in Chrome plugins and found that the only thing that worked was to disable adobe reader and enable chrome reader, which is the opposite of what was reccomended in answer to other adobe forum questions that were similar to mine.

  • RSS News Reader script?

After overcoming the stuff in "rookie needs help", I now have the entire site ready to go. I'm under an agreement not to show the content publicly until my client approves it, so apologies for not posting a link.
FWIW, this is a project directly related to the paperless electonic voting controversy, and the upcoming election (which we all anticipate to be an immense crisis - they should have solved this paper trail **** months ago), so all help is appreciated by more than just me - this one's for all of us. The site is likely to become a high-profile destination as November approaches.
I need to read a newsfeed from another related site. However, the ability to install code on the site I'm presently building is limited to what I can put into the immediate web. The site is hosted on an ASP (application service provider), and I'm uncertain what the sysadmin will welcome beyond that.
I have an ASP script that reads the newsfeed. It is demonstrated here:
    http://www.gbdg.net/clay/index_vu.asp
What I am looking for, if such exists, is a similar JSP script. I am hoping this is simply a page I can install in my new site, and then execute via an include.
Could someone please direct me to such a script, assuming this is possible? Or point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Yikes!
I have a week before a mandatory launch, and this is one small aspect of what I need to do. I pray somone knows a script or such that I can download and install - the last thing I hope to do this week is to learn how to build a custom tag.
Just as this page http://www.gbdg.net/clay/index_vu.asp reads content from http://www.votersunite.org/news-rss/index.xml and displays it in a formatted table, I can just as easily cause that box of news items to appear on the home page of a site - that page would also have other content. What I am looking for is a script that reads the XML newsfeed and displays it on a web page.
    Thanks
FYI, here is the ASP RSS newsreader script that causes the above page to work:

  • Full version of Acrobat interfering with newer Reader-only version

    Hi,
Our office manager has a full version of Acrobat (v. 6) installed on Windows XP machine. She has also installed Reader v. 9 - it USED TO WORK - but she also had a virus earlier this year and got a cleaned-up system.
Now, when she tries to open a pdf file to the Reader, there's an error message about Version 6 is too old to view pdf files (usually these are ones she's trying to read off the web) and it closes.
    Any work-arounds?
    thanks in advance!
    Dana

Acrobat and Reader will co-install using the current versions, but Acrobat 6 is too old to completely support the control of file associations - whichever package was installed last will take control of the PDF file type and in your case it sounds like Acrobat 6 won that battle. To get PDFs opening in Reader by default you'll have to manually reassign the file type in Windows Explorer's menu or uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader so it becomes the last registered application.
See this KB for a matrix of Acrobat and Reader versions up to 9, showing which will work together and what happens if they don't; and my blog post about the new co-install features of Acrobat and Reader X.

  • A new "Read the rules of engagement" plague?

Has someone else recognized the the new phenomenon of someone posting a trivial and/or meaningless question and several respondents finding it worthwile to post something like
    Welcome to SDN.
Please read the Rules of Engagement....Your thread will be locked ....blablabla....
Sometimes I think there are a lot of Strange Characters out there
    anton.

    Hi Vijay,
Yes, I know. Also the person might cross-post after someone has (correctly) answered the first thread.
That is why I do not always delete everything from cross-posted interview question series - but a plausibility check is advisable anyway.
When people stop answering those types of questions, then eventually the folks who are too lazy to search will stop asking them.
Goal => Search first, ask specific questions later!
    > Recently it happened once.
Sorry about that. Rules are rules, and currently they are rather strict.
I look very much forward to the day when we can relax the strict moderation again
From what I can tell, the "urgnt" and "plz riward" are now a thing of the past (relatively speaking).
Any other tips or tricks for combating the copy&pasters and the interview questions? They seem to be the hardest ones to crack.
    Cheers,
