New region in a form
Hi,
I have the form of a table with some fields, including a field that has multiple values, in this form I have a region that appears only after a certain action.
In this new region there are other fields in the same table were not visible before.
Now according to the multi-value field must assign values to another field in this new region.
These field values depend on the values previously assigned to another field.
How can I retrieve the values of the field of the old form?

1. Sounds like your issue is in Forms. There is a forum dedicated to forms - you'd probably have more luck if you asked there.
2. Please don't shout. Using capital letters throughout your post is not good etiquette.
3. Your error (which you could have googled) means you're refering to something that the database doesn't know about. Either you've used the wrong name or you don't have the correct privileges to see that object.

Thanks on your reply. I saw that template but the option 'Number of rows' eluded me. Anyway, although your reply was perfect match to what I asked, its not exactly what I have in mind. Allow me to describe what I'm trying to do, and maybe you, or others, will have a better solution/idea to give me.
I have 2 tables with similar characteristics. The original table TableA and a new, empty one TableB. In one column on the page, I wish to display the records from TableA, one record at a time. In the parallel second column, I wish to have an empty form, based on TableB, that the user wick fill according to the information on the first column. The submit process should fetch a new record, from TableA, to the first column, and save the data from the second column to TableB.
Why your first reply is not a perfect match for me? Well, I thought to incorporate several "shuttle buttons" near several of the items in the first column, that will allow the user to copy the original field data to the new item, on the second column.
Do you think it can be done with HTML DB? Any idea will greatly appreciate.

I am using Two Level Tabs Page Template in my application, and have used all the region templates (from 01 to 08) in my page. I still need a space for 1 more region template. Can i make a new region template of my own??If so how can it be done?

Neha SharmaRegion #'s 1 thru 8 are not really the equivalent of region templates. Those are placeholders for different display areas on the various pages.
Each one displays in a specific area of the page depending on the theme and page template that you're using. These region numbers are used for things like sidebars, tabs, main report or form regions, etc...
You are also able to include many report or form regions (or other regions) in a single display region.
In my 5 or so years of using Apex I have never had the need to try to create a new display region. And I don't think there's a way you can actually do it.
Why don't you let us know what you want to accomplish and you're sure to get some suggestions.

Adding new region to Standard page
Hello,
I need to add new region to display added details to the Paid Off Balance Screen.
In Jdev, i was able to create a new messageComponentLayout Region and added the correspnding datapoints.
Should i always create it as flexibleLayout only, i read through the forums this is the method to follow.
Is my approach wrong, please suggest.

I entered new fields in a form that was created last year to update it. However, now when I view the responses, the headings are listed as Column 1, Column 5, etc. rather than the name of the heading. Can you please help?

CRSE is an OEM Product and for use with a custom application they have written. Unfortunately we don't their reports or how they are connecting, it would appear they were originally built off a SQL and then set to a Dataset in the app or they could be adding the data source at runtime. Lots of variations and without access to the source code to see what they are doing not much we can help you with.
You need to contact the OEM Partner for help in resolving this and find out what you can and need to do to update your SP and work with their canned reports,

Error in creating a new region in OAF
I have created a new region and wanted to associate it to an existing page through personalization. Initially it errored out just on creating the Flexible layout where i just provided the id name. After bouncing the server several times, at one point of time i was successfull in associating the region by following the same steps, by which it was erroring out previously.
Things were working fine. Now due to some other requirement i bounced the apache server one more and now again it is erroring out...

This region I am creating for the page whose navigation is as shown below:
1) Login as PO Super User
2) Go to Requisition Work Bench -> Requisitions -> Summary -> Lines Tab.
In this page in the search region I need to add one Criteria Item named Requisition Description
Now in our development instance,creating a Criteria Itme for this region through personalization is not enabled. But the same thing is enabled in the Test Environment. However if I go and just click on Create Item -> Criteria row and provide the id name and click on Apply the page is erroring out. Would anyone please try replication the same in their available instance and let me know whether they are facing similar issues. -
New posting period for former fiscal year
Hello All!
For a customer we set up a database with posting periods for 2011 and 2012 (monthly periods). The database went live in 2011.
Now the requirement came up to post the opening balances for 2011 per end of 2010 (to have the postings not in fiscal year 2011).
My question is: is it a problem to add now a fiscal year 2010 (yearly basis)?

For your question, it is not possible to add new posting period for former fiscal year. You best solution is to post those OB as the first date of the first period.

Problem with inserting new records in Oracle Forms

I am a new user to Oracle Forms and I need a help from you people. The problem is as follows:
I have a data block in which I can display a number of records. In this data block the user will be able to edit the fields if no child records are found in another table. I have used when-new-record-instance to attain this scenario. All are text items. One item licensee_id which is made invisible by setting the property in property palette and required=no ( as this is the primary key of the table). Also the audit columns are made invisible.
The code for it is as follows:

Every thing is compiling fine but at the run time when I am trying to insert a new record I am receiving the following error:
FRM-40508:ORACLE error:unable to insert record
I also think the pre-insert record is not firing at the time of inserting a new record and saving it. So I request you to please delve into this problem and suggest me how to overcome this problem. Code snippets would do more help for me. If you need any other things from me please let me know. I will see if I could be of any help in that concern because I may not be able to send the entire form as it is.

pre-insert fires after the implicit/explicit commit/commit_form is issued and before the real insert is submitted to the db.
i would suggest to remove the error handling part for the moment
because i believe you might be getting "ora-xxxx cannot insert null"
and also make visible the primary column to check if the pre-insert is executed.
it would be better to make visible for a while the not null columns of the table/block
i suppose that the block is insert allowed and you are using table as the source of the block and not any procedures or something... -
How to stop insert of new row in tabular form if it's also being deleted
Suppose you have a tabular form, and one of the fields is a not-null column. A user checks a button to "add additional row", which adds a new row to the form, defaulting that not-null column to null. Assume it's a name or something, so there is no reasonable non-null default value that can be entered here to keep it from being null.
Now suppose the user makes a series of changes on the page, but then decides they don't want that row they just added, so they mark it for deletion, then click on "Delete Checked Rows". The not-null column was left blank.
The page is constructed in such a way that the ApplyMRD process runs first, then the ApplyMRU process. (I do this so that the user doesn't lose all their updates if they want to delete a row. I've had a few people complain when they tried to combine both operations, and unexpectedly lost their updates when they hit delete instead of submit.)
What happens? The page errors out because the ApplyMRU process is trying to insert a row with a null value in a not-null column. The ApplyMRD process ran fine, but because the row marked for deletion didn't exist in the database to begin with, it effectively did nothing. But ApplyMRU still tries to add the row, even though it was marked for deletion.
Is there any way to prevent this scenario from happening, without requiring the user to Cancel instead of deleting the blank row, which would cause all other changes on the page to be lost? I'd also like to avoid losing the ApplyMRU process when the user clicks "Delete", since it's more effective to combine operations and this will address the UI complaints I'd received otherwise.
(This is on ApEx 4.0, if it matters.)

KeithThinking about this some more, doing the delete and update together may not be an easy thing to accomplish after all.
Consider the above scenario, but the user puts a dummy value like "ignore-me" into the not-null text field, so the error doesn't come up with ApplyMRU is fired. But if ApplyMRD runs before ApplyMRU, it still doesn't do anything because there is no row in the database with the value "ignore-me". Then ApplyMRU runs and it adds that row, even though it was marked for deletion.
So you probably need to always run ApplyMRU before ApplyMRD. But then you wind up inserting a row before you delete it, and that may have unintended side effects, if the user really never wanted to add it in the first place.
Right now, the only workaround I can think of is to:
1) put ApplyMRU before ApplyMRD
2) add a pre-commit validation that checks to see if a row is blank AND checked, and if so, put a dummy value into the not-null field
3) let that row get added and then deleted, and make sure there are no side effects from this (for example, there is an audit table that tracks updates to the base table -- I can add a trigger that does nothing if presented with this dummy value)
Hopefully, though, there is an easier and more "built-in" way to achieve what I'm aiming for. -

But thinking of a possible solution every time a child operation fails have a catch block where you you go back to system if the parent needs to be deleted if yes, call Delete Method on the parent.
Note: Make sure that the decision on whether or not the parent record needs to be deleted will depends on the question "Does Parent Record already has several other children associated to it or not"

I was trying to create a new region in a page. For that i create a region RG1 in Jdeveloper and in that page, i created FlexLayout and Flex Content using personalization. Before i extend the RG1 region in Flex Content i have imported the RG1 region into database using the following command.

I see that i get a message saying that the page is imported. Now when i try to extend the region RG1 through Flex content using personalization, i get an error saying that
cannot be found. (oracle.adf.mds.MetadataDefException: Unable to find component with absolute reference = /abc/oracle/apps/per/selfservice/personalinformation/webui/AbcPerInfoRG, XML Path = null. Please verify that the reference is valid and the definition of the component exists either on the File System or in the MDS Repository.)
Can someone please help me on this. I am really tired with this error. I also have placed the VO and AM Class and xml files in the $JAVA_TOP/abc/oracle/apps/per/selfservice/personalinformation/server.

hi experts,
I want to print a new field in PE51 Form.
i added a new line in the form.
but when i selected the single field radiobutton and in change mode double click at the position where i wanted to print a new value it is giving error ie dialog box -
No data has been set up at this fixed position.
so are ther any attributes to set for the new line added for data to be printed?
Please reply me how to do this as soon as possible.

Double click will work only after assigning the source value for the field instead first you should create the value to fetch the data for the field.
