New releases: Adobe Lens Profile Creator v1.0.4 and Adobe Lens Profile Downloader v 1.0.1

Along with last night's ACR 7.2/LR4.2 release (see the Lightroom Journal blog here: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/), the Adobe Lens Profile Creator and Adobe Lens Profile Downlader also got a refresh. They have now officially moved out of the Adobe Labs into the Adobe product download site. Here are the links to the new version:

I am also having problems trying to install Lens Profile Downloader 1.0.1. I receive the following error message:
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance.
I updated to the latest version of Adobe Air, I uninstalled the previous (1.0) version of Lens Profile Downloader (dragged it to the trash and emptied the trash), and I rebooted my Mac. I have tried downloading the file and rebooting my Mac several times and get the same error message every time. Any other suggestions?

What happened to the new release link?

You used to be able to click on New Releases and get a line listing of everything that was added to iTunes for that week and the previous 3 weeks. What happened to that? The whole poing of going on iTunes was to click on bands I hadn't heard of and find out what they sounded like. Now you can't do that anymore. I don't care about the 20 CDs in the New Release link that are in the Best Buy and Circuit City Sunday Supplement.
Where is the list of everything that's been added this week?

It's not down, seems the link is missing. If you go to http://trailers.apple.com and then click on the link to Trailer in iTunes it will take you to the trailers page inside iTunes. It's being updated as there are new trailers showing there posted today (June 30).

Adobe Lens profile Downloader doesn't install on Mac OS/X

I want to include Zuiko Olympus and panasonic/Leica lens profiles to be used inside Lightroom 4.3
I try to install Adobe Lens Downloader 1.0.1.air and get an error during the installation process
I am using the last release of AdobeAIR.dmg
My O/X is 10.6.8
Soory the image is in French ...so here is the translation for US readers
"Sorry, an error has occurred.
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been misconfigured. Please contact the application author for assistance."

I have the same problem on Windows 7 Pro, its not about McIntosh, its probably an "Air-Error".
When I started Lens Profile Downloader, an Air update prompt popped up. So I updated Air to v3.3 if my memory serves, after which yet another Air update prompt appeared, this time to version 3.6. I installed that one too. After which I found on Adobe web pages Lens Profile Downloader 1_0_1, but ONLY as an *.air file, no *.exe.
Ah well, why to go the simple way, lets develop our own "downloader" of a "kind 3000 and 7", and maintain it, just like every camera just have to have its own raw format.
With this *.air file and the Air 3.6 I also get this installation error:
I suppose we have to get an older air version, or just wait for the version 3.7 or something...

Lens profile downloader dead? Poor Adobe support and communications?

I wonder if any Adobe Support for the Lens Profile Downloader and user generated profiles has ended silently?
I did create a Profile and sent it to the email adress but never received any reaction by a sentient being and the Profile was not published in the downloader.
Does anyone know how to publish a profile these days?
Adobe itself seems abysmally slow in Publishing profiles for DSLR lenses these days, so the only Workaround is to do it on our own.
Did I miss a message that said the lens Profile creator and downloader was abandoned?

A couple things:
1) ACR 8.4 will show if a built-in profile has been applied and what corrections have been applied, so if you want to post a raw file from your camera and lens combination someone with PS / ACR 8.4 can give feedback about what built-in profiles might be doing.
2) Regarding the X100S, using ACR 8.4 RC, for an example image I downloaded, the built-in profile corrected Chromatic Aberration and Vignetting. The Adobe-supplied external profile corrected Vignetting and Geometric Distortion. So the Adobe-supplied profile does additional Geometric Distoration compared with the built-in profile. However, there was double-correction for Vignetting so one has to turn off the vignetting correction for the particular lens profile to avoid double-correction. Here is a side-by-side example showing these corrections:
This double-correction of vignetting appears to be have been corrected in the final ACR 8.4 and presumably LR 5.4.

Trouble trying to use Adobe Lens Profile Downloader

Ive got a legal copy of Lightroom, downloaded & installed Air, downloaded and installed Adobe Lens Profile Downloader, got 2 Adobe accounts but cannot get either account to log in using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader, so I cannot even start to download lens profiles.
Any suggestions please?
Is there a place or way to download the profiles without using Adobe Lens Profile Downloader?
PS if I go to photoshop.com as indicated in Adobe Lens Profile Downloader, neither account logs me in even though Ive reset both passwords from photoshop.com, but both log me in on adobe.com, hence me being able to post here!

I am going to create some profiles since the profiles are not available for my camera. Once they are created on your computer you can upload them to the Adobe library using the downloader to share with the rest of the community. In other words the downloader will provide a means for you to manage your profiles on your computer those that you have and those that you don't have and those that you want to delete or replace. Note that there is a delete and submit button. I do not have any created yet to upload/submit but I would suspect that when you wanto to submit a profile you will be required to login. I tried this to submit a rating and comments and got the same message about not being able to login.

New release of the Adobe Font Development Kit for OpenType

A new release (v1.6.6148) of the Adobe Font Development Kit for OpenType has just been posted at:

This includes some minor changes in the feature file syntax, slightly better documentation for the MakeOTF tool, a complete installation procedure for Mac OSX 10.2.4, addition of the "Unicode and Glyph Names" documentation under the FDK license, and minor bug fixes.
The most important change has to do with the handling of contextual substitution layout rules. MakeOTF now includes an option to create these either correctly, according to the OpenType specification v1.4, or in the older format used by InDesign v2.0 and earlier. This option is now tied to some additional logic, such that if you build a font to be compatible with InDesign v2.0 and earlier, some special text will appear in the name table named-id 5 "Version" . This text will serve as a marker that the font uses the InDesign v2.0 compatible format for these rules, and will consequently work with not only InDesign 2.0 and earlier, but also with any future programs that know to recognize the special text.. The special text was chosen in order to permit all known older OpenType fonts which have contextual substitution layout rules to keep working under future revisions of Adobe programs.
This meant to be only a short-term solution. We do not anticipate that non-Adobe products will necessarily pick up this special case logic, and we do expect to revise the Adobe Type Library OpenType fonts to correct the rule format, once the next version of InDesign has been out for a few months
The special case logic is documented in the FDK Release Notes, under build 5959. The special case is triggered when a font matches the following criteria:
if (the name table name id (1,0,0,5) exists:
if the name ID string matches the regular expression
"OTF[^;]+;PS[^;]+;Core 1\.0\.[23][0-9].*":
the font has In Design 2.0 format
else if the e name ID string matches the regular expression
"Core[^;]*;makeotf\.lib":
the font has In Design 2.0 format
else the font has the correct format.
Example of string 1: "OTF 1.006;PS 1.004;Core 1.0.35"
Example of string 2: "Core 1.0.38;makeotf.lib1.5.4898"
Another example of string 2:"Core;makeotf.lib"
Fonts built with FontLab by default have name id 5 strings in the format of example 1, although it is possible to change the value.

I noticed two minor things with the windows version of MakeOTF.
* If a fatal error occurs when using the GUI mode for compiling, the output zero sized binary otf is locked in the file system until you exit the application. This doesn't happen when using the command line interface since the application process always is terminated after each compilation.
* When using the command line interface, or when executing MakeOTF from a script, the "parsing warnings" argument "+w" seems not to be piped to the compiler library after invoking MakeOTF. The "parsing warnings" argument works fine when calling a fpr project file from a script or when compiling in GUI mode.

Wie komme ich an ein Objektivprofil, dass von Adobe gelistet ist, aber im "Lens Profile Downloader" nicht auftaucht?

Ich suche ein Profil für mein SIGMA APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM. Es ist als "unterstütztes Objektiv" auf der Hilfeseite von Adobe angeblich seit Lightroom 3/CameraRaw 6.1 verfügbar, taucht aber beim Downloader nicht auf!
Gibt es andere Quellen oder Möglichkeiten?
Kann jemand helfen? Danke im Voraus.....

You shouldn't have to go to the lens profile downloader. I checked the Canon folder on my computer, and the profile for that lens is there. I didn't check all of the different brands of cameras. What camera are you using?

Lens Profiles for the Fuji X-E2 and the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader

I just picked up an Fujifilm X-E2 and an 18mm f/2 lens. I noticed that LR 5.4 doesn't have a profile for this lens/body combination and I'm a little unclear whether it is applied automatically (as was the case with the X100s prior to 5.4), or not.
I also noticed that I can download profiles for the X-E1/18mm combination using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader and wondered if this was a correct thing to do.

Lens Profile Downloader Feedback

I'm curious to know what people think about Adobe's Lens Profile Downloader. Are people using it? What do you think of it? Are people even aware of it?
I think it has great potential. Adobe's been trying to play catch-up after releasing the Profiler (profiles are time-consuming to make, and there was no clear or easy way to request profiles from Adobe or the larger community).
However, it definitely feels a little half-baked. The need for selecting a profile based on the camera model is was built with is slim (if I am a D300 owner, I am equally interested in profiles created with the D90 or D300s, as well as the D7000 and so on). More importantly, there's no field for LENS MAKE. Hello? This means that if Nikon/Canon/Sony, Sigma, Tokina, and Tamron all decide to make a 12-24mm f/4 lens, there's no easy way to figure out which one the listed profile is actually for. More oddities: Apple listed under Camera Make? And a random half of the brands' names in full uppercase?
Here's the info we need when selecting a lens profile for RAW conversion:

The reason there is no selection for Lens Make is that, until very recently, it was not a standard EXIF field. Even with EXIF 2.3, manufacturers are generally not filling in the field. So there's nothing to search for, unfortunately.
Apple is listed because of the iPhone models.

Profiles I sent to Adobe not showing up in Profile Downloader

Hi Eric and Simon,
When the Lens Profile Creator first came out, I created profiles for 2 Olympus lenses and emailed them to Adobe per the instructions in LPC. When I installed the Lens Profile Downloader I didn't see them, so I sent them in again, but I still don't see them. In fact, I don't see any lenses at all when I select Olympus as the camera type. What gives?

Eric, I don't seem to have the project file any more, but I believe I just used the name generated by the Lens Profile Creator. Anyway, the profile file name is "E-30 (Olympus 14-54mm Lens) - RAW.lcp"
The profile is recognized automatically in ACR and PS (I have the profile manually installed on my computer) and shows up in the Lens Profile box in Lens Filters as:
E-30
OLYMPUS 14-54mm Mk I (raw)
The other profile for the 11-22 is consistent with that.

I must say about a year ago I looked at adobe ideas and said that it was a wast of resources and that it had no good use case. about 3 months ago I looked at it on a weekend away from my main computer. I had a need for drawing. I love this app. Please continue to develop it. It is amazing. I was worried because the iPad has no pressure sensitivity, but muse works around this and it is excellent. Can it be better? Absolutely, but it is great for such a young program. Please Keep developing it and promote it more. Is the new release cycle really making Firefox faster?

The new release cycle of Firefox may help in increasing the overall speed and stability of Firefox and shorten the time, we have to wait for new features. However, at the moment this causes a lack in add-on support. If we gain speed and new features, but therefore abandon old features, that made us faster not by performance, but through a different style of using Firefox, then what have we won?
For example, with FF 5.0 - 7.0 the "Site Launcher" is not working anymore. Maybe Firefox is now loading pages faster, but I am at least twice as slow in navigating, because "Site Launcher" was - together with "All-in-one Gestures" - my most used Add-On.

Keep in mind I was just posting my observations on the new release of 6.0 of which I own the Master Suite. If you want to take your problems out on someone please go some place else that is more suitable for imature behavior. Otherwise I'm not responding to any more trolls.
There was considerable backlash with Adobe's most recent upgrade strategy. I stated my perspective. If you have a differnt perspective please state it without latching on to me.
