New replacement iPod won't sync. Error message

My 80 gig cassic lunched a motherboard. Purchased a new 160 classic as a replacement.
When attempting to sync, it looks like it has synced a hundred or so pod casts and then freezes up. An error window says "The xxx ipod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found.
Note: In three syncing attempts, only three podcasts have actually appeared on the new machine
Help will really be appreciated.

  • "New or Refurbished" iPod won't sync; error messages

I recently used my warranty on my old 30 gig classic iPod to get a "new or refurbished" iPod because the battery life was terrible. When i got the iPod everything looked like it was working right, until i got to about 1550/6000 songs. I got a message saying there was a file missing and that the sync could not be completed. I went through some trouble shooting, to no avail. I have Itunes version 8.0.2 and Ipod version 1.3. Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts!

  • Tried to sync iPod Touch, noted "new" iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried the fix, but iTunes hangs when I try to open Preferences.

Just tried to download new audiobooks to my iPod Touch 3, and noted new iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried to Reset Sync History per Support Article, but it didn't work. My purchased audiobooks are also gone from my iTunes Library.  Any fix, or is my best bet to uninstall new iTunes and reload earlier version??

  • New computer, ipod won't sync

My old iBook's hard drive had some water damage, so I got a new MacBook. But now my ipod won't sync with my new computer unless I erase what I already have on my ipod. How do I get all my non-purchases off my ipod before reformatting to my new computer?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • New 5G iPod won't sync photos or video.

    Hi,
I recieved a brand new iPod today and I attempted to sync it to my PowerBook. However, it kept freezing at certain songs, so in the end, I had to stop syncing every 100 or so songs and then restart syncing as to avoid freezes. This was after my entire library vanished and I had to reimport it all. Finally after 2 hours and 45 minutes I managed to get all my music on it. But... now I keep getting error messages when I try to sync photos and videos. The error message reads:
'The iPod "iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error has occured (-208)."
I have tried reinstalling iTunes but no luck. I don't want to restore my iPod just yet because all the music is playing fine and I can still add/remove songs manually, but not automatically update. Plus I haven't either the time or energy to sit restarting and unplugging my iPod.
Is this simply a software issue, because the iPod is fine, it plays songs and can act as a hard drive for movie files, but just not upload video or photos that I can view on the iPod. This is even more stressful considering Apple lost my last iPod when I sent it in for battery issues, and I only recieved this new 5G iPod today after two whole months of waiting and hold music! If anyone can help me on this issue, it would be very, very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

I have the same exact problem. I was on the phone with Apple for 8 hours and various people trying to solve this issue. Thing is, it will accept photos and videos from my old G4 iMac. (USB 1.1). It will not work with USB 2.0, or my new computer for that matter. If you open iTunes > Preferences > iPod -- then look at the tabs. There is no Photo or Video tab.. on my G4 those tabs are present, and videos/photos sync & copy just fine. Apple needs to hurry up and fix this... quite annoying. For now, I will have to use my older apple to get things going. Hope this helps.
Edit: By the way, I am using the newest version of iPod Updater (which doesn't work either), and iTunes 6.0.1 -- and if you do call apple for help, don't restore your ipod, it won't help anything... you'll just lose all your hours of work...

  • My iPod won't sync- error 13019

My iPod nano gen 5 won't sync. Everytime it shows error 13019. I have tried everyhting from deslelcting all songs in the music category, restoring, resetting and everything. Nothing is working. • Voice memo won't sync - error message

I have an iPhone 5 and the latest version of iTunes on my computer. I have the setting on 'sync manually'. The first time I clicked sync to transfer a voice memo to my computer an error message came up and it didn't transfer. Now when I click again it's as if iTunes already thinks it has copied the voice memo over but it isnt there. Any ideas? I need this file on my computer urgently.

    Hi Catherineduffy!
I have an article here that I believe will help you get this file onto your computer:
    iPod: Recording voice memos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2396
Specifically, I think these instructions at the bottom of the article will be most relevant for you:
Transferring a recording to a computer
    Manually
Voice memos are saved in a Recordings folder on iPod in the WAV file format. If you enable iPod for disk use, you can drag voice memos from the folder to copy them.
    Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.
So that file will sync automatically to your computer with automatic sync selected. You may want to try automatic syncing to get the file from your phone onto your computer if that file is still on your phone. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • IPod won't sync!  Message keeps telling me to Restore

    Hi there,
I have the latest software updates to my iPOD / iTunes, but can't seem to sync my music to my device.
After I plug in my iPod, I get the following error message:
iTunes has deted an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. (So I click on OK).
I get the following message after:
Are you sure you want to restore the iPod "iPod" to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased. (I then click on the Restore button.)
    I then get this message...
Your iPod has been restored to factory settings, and is restarting. Please leave your iPod connected. It will appear in the itunes window after it restarts.
After my iPod restarts, it starts over and gives me the very first error message. I've been unable to sync any music to my device.
Please help!! I've done the 5 'R's but it didn't solve this issue.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

    download iTunes again from Apple.

If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You  should be making backups of your content regularly, either through  iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a  external drive.

  • IPod Won't Sync After Moving Music to New Computer

With the help of someone here, I moved my iTunes Library from my old computer to my new one. It didn't work exactly like it was supposed to. All of my music is on my new computer and in my iTunes library, but my playlists, counts etc. are gone. Whatever - I'll deal. Now, though, my iPod won't sync with my new computer (which I did authorized). The "Do Not Disconnect" sign never goes away after I connect my iPod. Thoughts?

*I'm afraid to plug in my iPod in fear of it erasing my playlists...*
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different iTunes. You'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
*but should I plug it in to restore playlists??*
Your playlists won't be restored by simply connecting your iPod to iTunes.

my 5th generation ipod won't sync anymore to my PowerMac G4.  It worked fine, but when I installed a new hard drive it won't work anymore.  I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod.  The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder.  If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application.  Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.
