New Retina MBP Doesn't See Time Capsule

Just purchased a new retina MBP and have 2 probems with it.
1.  It doesn't see my Time Capsule, when using Airport Utility it states that 'no configured airport base stations have been found'.  I also have an iMac which sees the TC ok.
2.  I did a superduper backup of my old MBP but set up the new MBP as a new machine just importing the applications from the backup using Migration assistant.  Because of the problem in item 1 above I tried to start up using the external backup but failed. The new MBP cannot startup on the backup disk (Freeagent GoFlex 1TB) even though it's shown as an optional startup in the settings.  When trying to startup from it the machine just goes to a black screen and does nothing.
So far, not too impressed.
Regards

1. Yesterday my mbp-r was unable to find my AP extreme base station in Airport Utility, even though the network seemed to be functioning perfectly. Rebooted the mbp-r (not painful given the speed), and now all is well with Airport Utility. Mysterious, but it worked.
2. Does superduper clone the recovery partition? (I think I read somewhere it doesn't.) And if not, can you boot from such a clone? IIRC, Carbon Copy Cloner can produce a recovery partition.

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.4) Doesn't See Time Capsule Printer But 10.5.8 Does

Snow Leopard (10.6.4) doesn't recognize the Lexmark printer connected to my Time Capsule v 7.4.2. However, the printer is nicely recognized on Leopard (10.5.8) on my PowerBook as well as on the two Windows computers in my Home. In fact, with printer sharing activated on my PowerBook, the printer appears in the Add Printer dialog of my Mac Mini as a shared printer from the PowerBook, but not directly from the Time Capsule.
I have tried rebooting, upgrading to the latest software upgrades to no avail.
    Any ideas ?

After all, the printer wasn't "Bonjour visible" in the list of available printers on 10.5.8 either, but it still worked after the earlier setup. Restarting the Time Capsule fixed the problem.

  • Time Machine doesn't see Time Capsule each time it boots up

Every time my iMac boots up, Time Machine forgets where Time Capsule is and I then have to click change disk and choose the TC again. The Time Capsule has short name so I know it's not that as pointed out in a support doc. Once I've told time machine it's then fine until I switch my iMac off, and then the whole process starts again.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this slightly annoying issue?
    Thanks.

Sorry but your picture is not presenting.. it is not your fault.. it will present on your computer but not on other computers.
If I try and download the picture it is 209bytes.. clearly too small. This is trying to open your picture.
This picture showing the failure is normal screenshot.. does it show for you??
I have suggested reducing the file name.. pic1.png as I think the long names with spaces could be an issue.
Here is the same picture with the name changed.
You cannot select the source disk for the target in TM.
Here is mine.. the source disk is never ever listed as available to use as a target.

  • Cannot see Time Capsule for backup but internet perfect A

I've seen other posts about time capsule problems and most talk about wireless dropout and loss of internet connectivity. My situation is almost the reverse:
Full airport strength in menu bar. Full access to internet sites on at least one computer. Cannot see Time Capsule via Airport Utility or in Finder on any computer. Time Machine backups fail (marked as Delayed in menu bar item).
If I reboot (via unplugging) the Time Capsule, it shows up again in Airport Utility and backups are successful. This has happened three times now. I think the first time was prior to upgrading the firmware. The second two times were after the Time Capsule firmware upgrade. In the second two instances, it looks like the backups run for about 12-13 hours, every hour. No problems. Then, they drop out. Yesterday, it ran from 8:30 AM until 9 PM.
I've got two Macs (a Powerbook G4 and a MacBook Pro), each running latest software updates (security, 10.5.2, etc.).
Unplugging (rebooting) my Time Capsule each day is not an option. That's partly why I moved from an ancient LinkSys router that always needed to be rebooted since we lost local and internet access. Any help is much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Drew

Have you set up the TC with user accounts??
Most people just use the TC password..
I have done very little with user accounts on the TC.. it seems fundamentally wrong headed to me.. If you have a domain controller with everyone using accounts to login that is fine.. and the TC would then exist in connection to the domain controller.. but it is a home device and there is no function to all that.
What will happen if you change over to standard security or even turn on the guest account I am too scared to suggest as you may not easily get connection back again.. The TC certainly displays a warning going to accounts.. I am not sure of warnings going away from accounts.
If you didn't setup the TC, do you have admin access to it??
Perhaps I am assuming too much before you tell me everything. But I may suggest things you don't want to try.. unfortunately I cannot say this will work.. the issue is widespread across the Mountain Lion TC combo and I have yet to see Apple suggest a solution or even fess up there is a problem. Daily reboots are just simply now a part of the scene for all windows and Mac users.
Is the TC the main router for the network.. 1 hour is not default lease in the TC and very few people even know how to change it.. standard is 1day. I would consider 1hr adequately short for all arp tables to be kept up to date.. the computer should be seeking new lease at 30min.. ie half lease time.
If the TC is bridged an not controlling the network.. that can contribute to the issue.
Setting a static IP on the TC if it is bridged my help.

  • Can't update iPhoto/ iMovie in App Store. New Retina MBP.

I have just purchased a new Retina MBP. App store wont let me update iPhoto/ iMovie because I'm not logged in with account that purchased the apps. I tried the 2 apple id's I have and no luck. Any advice? Thanks.

if you opened the app store. and logged in with both accounts and it didn't allow you to download the app.  should say download.  if not you will have to pay.  no way to see unless you have an old email from when you did.

  • Mac can not see time capsule

i bought Time capsule over Amazon .Air port works fine , but my mac can not see time capsule,,,sometime does , but most of the time not...
It is a problem with time capsule i have 2 T new generation

You don't mention what type of Mac you have, but is there any way you can move it around to see if that affects the problem?  If you hold down an "option" key while you pull down the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item, you should see a value labeled "RSSI" that is the strength of the wireless signal.   A value closer to zero is stronger.  For example, -30 is decent but -80 is poor.
By the way, you don't seem to have declared any of your system details in your profile or didn't select your details to be included in your post.  Those can help people give you correct advice.  To update that, click on "Your Stuff" near the top of a window on these discussion groups, then on "Profile".  Scroll down to "My Products" and either edit an existing one or add a new one.

  • 2 MBP's and 2 Time Capsules

I have 2 MBP's and 2 Time Capsules with a single internet connection.  My intent is to have one MBP back up to one Time Capsule and the second to the second Time Capsule.  I tried to set it up in this way with no success by running a second Cat 5 cable from one TC to the other and then tried to connect the MBP's separately.  Any suggestions on how I should configure this?  My research has led to a "Bridge Mode" but this process is not completely clear.  I am only moderately ignorant of computing technology but should be able to handle this.  Thanks!

It sounds like your TC1 is running as the main router for the network.
Although I am not sure of the ISP it will be very simple to check.
In the airport utility on the computer.. click on your TC1.. you will see a half-summary page. (Full summary page.. hold down option key and double click the icon). You will see the WAN and LAN IP addresses are different if it is routing. I am guessing you are routing so the WAN IP will be public IP.
You are fine running ethernet to the second TC.. normally we recommend people plug WAN facing upstream.. ie TC2 WAN plugged to TC1 LAN port.
It is not an issue for this particular configuration though. You can use LAN to LAN.
This second TC should be in bridge mode. And from there it will depend on how you want to setup wireless what setup you will use.
If you are planning to use roaming.. then Bob has excellent instructions in a thread he just did.
apple time capsule setting up a roaming network with fios
The fact the main router is FIOS is irrelevant.. it is how to get the Airport utility to set things up correctly.
I have to admit I go for first principles manual approach... Control is better..
The second TC should appear in the airport utility.. complete the setup wizard.. you have no choice but to do that. If it fails to configure as Bob has shown.. simply click the edit button.
Go to the Network tab and select bridge.
Go to the Internet tab and just make sure it shows dhcp.
Lastly wireless.. you decide.. if you do roaming.. then simply set the same name and same security as TC1.
You will be creating a wireless network.
I do strongly suggest simple names.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric .. it helps.
Then click update from whichever page you are on and complete the setup.
On your Macs.. setup TM to whichever TC you want.
We strongly recommend using ethernet at least for the first backup.
Also consider doing the occasional backup at least to the other TC even if you don't always use both.. You can easily use two targets now in TM. It will simply use one then the other in round robin.

  • Help - G4 cannot see Time Capsule on Powerup

    Hi,
I have one computer - an old G4, an iPhone and a PS3 connected to my Time Capsule (bought in May).
    -G4 is connected by Ethernet
    -PS3 and iPhone wirelessly
I usually put my G4 to sleep, and wake it, and everything's fine.
Twice now, the power has gone out, and when it comes back, the Time Capsule is green, and the PS3 and iPhone can see it. I boot the G4, and it cannot see it. The G4 also shows a date in 1969 (does that indicate other issues?).
I have tried the following both times -
Resetting the Time Capsule with the pin - does not work
Unplugging and resetting the time capsule with pin - does not work
Rebooting the computer and clearing out the PRAM - does not work
Changing the date to after 2001 on the clock, - no help
Of course, now that I've reset the time capsule, I can't configure it again and have lost the wireless connection.
Last time I eventually got it to work - but it seemed random as to how. I'm frustrated, and I would like any advice possible. I hope it's the computer and not the Time Capsule. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

    Now I'm getting really annoyed.
Went to see the mac genius today at the Apple store. Saw it wirelessly no problem.
Saw it via Ethernet no problem. When I got him to check that there was a file on the hard drive he did it wirelessly though.
Told me Time Capsule was fine (and I believe him). Told me to take it home, create a second ethernet connection, and trash preferences for "System Configuration" if necessary. Did all that, booted, found the Time Capsule no problem.
Thought my problem was solved, but was it?
Turned off the computer, turned it on a few hours later - will not see Time Capsule, Airport will not recognize it AGAIN. Tried trashing preferences and rebooting - it doesn't work.
I'm able to connect the ethernet cable directly to the DSL modem and use PPPOE, it's fine.
I don't get it. What else can I do?

  • Windows Vista cannot see Time Capsule

I had a network setup via Time Capsule with iMac, Macbook Pro and PC running Vista Business. I have lost internet connectivity on the PC and Airport utility cannot see Time Capsule. The PC is connected to Time Capsule via etherenet. How can I fix this?

ONE PROBLEM THOUGH. I believe ONLY PROFESSIONAL versions of windows have the local policies acceptable. This means all of us using HOME editions are screwed.
Home Edition users would have to perform a Registry edit as follows:
    1. Open registry editor (ref: Start > Search > Enter: regedit)
    2. Browse to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME = LmCompatibilityLevel & VALUE = 1
    4. Restart your PC and try the connection again...

  • MBP doesn't see usb card reader

I have a MAUSB-10 card reader and my MBP doesn't see it. It's usb and was plugged into my xp box, but I'm trying to switch everything over to mac and this is a major stumbling block. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the MBP to see the reader..... cmd line force? anything!?!
    Thank you in advance.

I just tried a Sandisk USB 2.0 Card Reader/Writer for Sony style memory stick. Model SDDR-170-A10M. My 15" MacBook Pro will not mount the memory stick on the desktop. I have a support e-mail into Sandisk, but I am wondering if there is anything I can do to make this work in the meantime?
I am seeing no Apple Mac OSX specific drivers. The device did come with a Windows driver software mini-cd-disc. Which I beleive I couldn't use on my internal CD drive anyway.
Any thoughts out there would be much appreciated!
BTW an SIIG, Inc. ExpressCard 11-in-1 R/W card does work! I just thought the Sandisk "thumb-drive" style R/W device would be a more universal way to work between computers.

  • Time Machine doesn't list Time Capsule as backup option

I'm trying to restart Time Machine, but Time Machine doesn't show Time Capsule as a backup option even though I'm connected to it wirelessly on our network. I was successfully backing up to my Time Capsule until I changed its name. Any ideas on how to fix this.

Sounds like the drive is dead.
Take it to your local Apple Store or Authorized Repair location.

  • Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

    Do the usual wireless things.
Change the wireless name to simple name with only alphanumerics and no spaces.
Set to manual and use channels 1, 6, 11 in turn.
For testing take off the security altogether.
The iphone only works on 2.4ghz so only that band is relevant.

  • New Retina MBP, user upgradeable SSD drive?

can you upgrade/swap out the SSD drive on the new retina MBP?

judging by pictures and the internet and verbiage from Apple itself these are NOT replacable.
along with the MacBook AIR the retina MBP is "Flash Storage",
NOT "HDD" or "SDD" like the non-retina MBP is.
http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/13-and-15-inch/ specifically states "rpm hard drive" or "solid state drive"
http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/ specifically states "flash storage" along with how the AIR is defined. and ive never read anywhere about being able to replace the flash storage on an AIR.

How do i get Win 8 to see time capsule?

This is the first time I have seen the question.. I guess it was coming.
Did you have TC working with previous version of windows??
Ping the TC and see if you can reach it. If not that is where to start.
When you say.. see.. do you mean connect to the internet or use hard disk resources??
