New rMBP 13" - Trackpad/Keyboard not working during Win7 Bootcamp Installation

Hi,
I bought the new rMBP 13" 2 weeks ago and now wanted to install Win7 on an extra partition. Using the Bootcamp Assistant, I created a bootable USB drive to install. However, when booting the USB drive and getting to the first installation screen (asking for language), I don't have a cursors to select anything. Also the keyboard is not working. I thought the Win7 might lack some drivers, but I even a different Win7 distribution (64bit) but it still wasn't working. Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix it? Obviously, not everyone has this issue.
Thanks!

Have you upgraded your EFI firmware -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1704?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US?

  • Brand New iMac and wired keyboard not working

I just bought a new iMac.The wired keyboard seems to work, the mouse is plugged into the keyboard and that works, and I can, somewhat make changes to the volume and other small changes. The ESC key works (I can turn off VoiceOver)but... I can not even get the computer up and going. I can not put in my name or other registration information.
Any ideas if the keyboard has some kind of other settings that I need to turn off. There is no software or anything else in the Mac that I know of. It is brand new and just arrived today.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so sorry. I know this a bummer. But better to take it back. When you take it in, if they boot it and get it to work, make sure and shut down the iMac, wait about ten seconds and press the power button. Make sure it boots to the Desktop and that your keyboard functions as it should. Just make absolutely sure it works before you bring it back home. In fact, since you could not get through the registration process, perhaps they will go through that with you since had problems with it. Something isn't communicating between the iMac and the keyboard. Could be the USB ports, software/hardware ... hopefully they'll repair it to your satisfaction or replace it.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 - Trackpad/Keyboard not working ! :(

  • APPLE mouse & keyboard not working with Windows (Bootcamp)

I installed Leopard and Windows XP on my Mac Pro. The installation went very smoothly. Only problem I have is that my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse do not work on Windows (frozen) although they work fine on Leopard. I tried a Logitech wireless trackball and it works fine on both Windows and Leopard. Any suggestion?

Thanks. I upgraded from Tiger and downloaded Bootcamp from Leopard Installation disc ( I did not have a beta version ). I then installed Windows XP SP2 ( brand new, just bought for that purpose ). Wonder if Mac wireless keyboard and mouse are compatible with Window. Everything else work beyond my expectation.

  • PowerBook G4 15 Keyboard not working during Leopard install

    I need help!
I have a powerbook G4 I wanted to sell. I was looking on amazon at a few reviews, and I found a MacBook Pro review that said how to do a reset of the entire computer. I was excited, because I wanted to sell, and I did it. Here is what it told me to do:
"Instructions for resetting a Mac computer to factory specs.
First, you need to reboot the machine in single-user mode. This will start the computer up in a text-only terminal. To start up in single-user mode, turn the computer on while holding down the Command and "S" keys until the screen begins to show text.
Eventually, the text will stop loading, and you'll be left at a prompt with the word "root". Once you're there, you type in a few commands.Make sure you type it exactly as I have written it, and hit the Return key at the end of each line:
    Type:
    mount -uw /
What we did here was tell the computer to make your hard drive readable and writable. Next you type the command that will erase all of the users' data.I assume you want to erase all personal data, since you want the computer to start up as though it's brand new.
    Type:
    rm -rf /Users/*
The above command says to remove absolutely everything in the Users folder (make sure you type shift-8 to make the asterisk symbol).
    Now, type this:
    cd /var/db/
    rm .AppleSetupDone
    rm .TimeMachine.Cookie
    rm .TimeMachine.Results.plist
    rm .com.apple.iokit.graphics
    rm -rf dhcpclient
    rm -rf samba
Basically, these are settings and preference files for some programs on a Mac, and we want those to be reset when the computer turns back on.The most important file to remove is the .AppleSetupDone file (and yes, it does start with a period). The computer thinks you're turning it on for the first time.
We're done, so you've got two choices: if you want to shut the computer down, type:
    shutdown -h now
This will shut down the computer and make it ready for the purchaser to set up the computer and register it.
If you want to reboot the computer (to check out your handy work), type:
    reboot
    Press the return key."
Now, when the language slideshow appears (the leopard install video), after that, I cannot use my keyboard to press enter, or type. It makes the sound that is made when you cannot type, so it is not a hardware issue. I cannot get past the registration, so that is not it either. Help!
    Powerbook G4 15"-2005 model
    Backlit Keyboard
    1gb RAM

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).

  • Keyboard not working during os boot

I recently bought a new keyboard, like some weeks ago, and since then, the keyboard does not respond to key presses during boot. I mean, I want to go to the BIOS and I can't, just one example. I even flashed to 2.5 bios version, not exactly for that (I'm buying a new HD), but it doesn't worky anyway.
The keyboard I have is this: http://www.geniusnet.com.tw/product/product-1.asp?pdtno=516

If this is a USB keyboard then you need to go into the bios and enable the USB Legacy Device support under Integrated Peripherals.
Of course, that means you need to use a PS2 keyboard to make the settings (and you will also have to do this if you upgrade your bios at any time in the future.

  • Macbook Trackpad/Keyboard not working in X

So I installed Arch for the first time (save for one previous time on a VM) today. Well, its mostly installed, GRUB is being a pain, so im working mounted on the computer via live cd.
Anyway, i installed all of the X packages needed to run a WM (eventually Awesome) and proceeded to test with twm. When it loaded, i found myself unable to move the cursor or even type in xterm. According to the Macbook wiki page, the keyboard and touchpad should work out of the box. Just in case, I installed the synaptic input package, but that did nothing to help. I suppose the problem could have to do with running on the live disk, but im not sure why that would make a difference (im coming from Ubuntu, so installation is a foreign task to me).
I go back to school tomorrow, and I need a GUI to be able to use their internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should care to explain which synaptic input package you installed. The one you SHOULD need is xf86-input-synaptics, I think. Check if you have any synaptics configs in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
Also, you don't NEED att GUI to be able to use thier Internet - netctl works just fine.

  • Keyboard and trackpad are not working, Keyboard and trackpad are not working

I'm using MBP 15" late 2008 with Maverick OS. A couple of days ago, the internal keyboard and trackpad are not working at all. I did all the troubleshooting. I even reformat it; installing the snow leopard and re-installing the maverick but no good result. I believe there's no problem with my keyboard because i can still do PRAM on my lappy. Everytime i'm booting up my MBP, it always looking for bluetooth trackpad and keyboard. I have not used those bluetooth peripherals from day 1 i've started using MBP. I just read on the internet about the same problem has happened on MBP 13" retina and APPLE fixed it by updating the software. I wish Apple will also do something for the old MBP to fix the intermal keyboard and trackpad problem.

  • Trackpad/point not working after keyboard removal

Earlier today I opened up my T510 for maintanence. In doing so, I removed the keyboard. After putting everything back together, the trackpoint/trackpad did not work. That includes the the **bleep**-mouse, trackpad, and all mouse buttons. The trackpad wasn't even removed, but I guess the data connection for that goes through the rest of the keyboard (?).
I took the keyboard out several times to make sure the connection was secure and inspect for physical damage. There was nothing.
The obvious thing to do here is replace the keyboard and desperately hope that the problem is not with the mobo connector, but the problem is sufficently strange (keyboard working but not mouse) thatI figured it would be worth posting here to see if anyone has any insight.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Solved.
As I mentioned in the last post, the trackpad connects to the mobo through the cable labled as a speaker wire in the manual (this can be easily seen after removing the keyboard bezel/trackpad from the machine). There is a small latch to hold this cable in place on the mobo end. I had mixed up the secured and unsecured states for this latch, which apparently broke the connection. Fixed that now and everything works.
It's probably worth explicitly pointing out that the **bleep**-mouse and mouse buttons on the keyboard do seem to be depenent on the trackpad being properly plugged in, despite having a seperate connection to the mobo.

  • Keyboard Not Working and Question Mark Folder on Startup

I've got a question for a Mac Genius: What is the cause of my keyboard not working and a grayscreen coming up on startup? I'll give you a little background. I have a 1.83Ghz Macbook that is two years old now...almost exactly. I came back from work yesterday and it was in a semi-frozen state. Two apps were frozen but the finder was still alive. Within 10 seconds of trying to navigate through the Finder, it froze too. I went ahead and tried to restart it, but nothing happened. I held down the power button and it shut off. When I tried to start it back up a gray screen comes up. It makes the chiming sound but goes no where. After about half a minute the folder with the question mark will appear. The first few times I tried it, it seemed like the optical drive was trying really hard to work, but it doesn't try so hard anymore. None of the keys work and the Caps Lock and Num Lock don't light, so I can't use any of the keyboard commands to work my way around (resetting PRAM/using startup disks). The CD is stuck in it because I can't force eject it. I believe the trackpad is also not working, but I couldn't be sure.
Previously I had noticed that when I came back from work I would find Mozilla Firefox using tons of the CPU when it wasn't really doing anything. This heated up the computer and made the fans spin at crazy speeds(6000RPM). I will try the Hard drive in another computer tonight probably because I'm pretty sure that's not the problem, but I would like to be sure.
Any ideas would be helpful! I'm just about to tear it open and see if anything has been physically fried.

I went ahead and tried to eject the CD with an external mouse but it didn't work. What I ended up doing is swapping my hard drive into my friend's computer and discovered that that was the only problem. It appears that my HDD was totally fried because after I booted off of the start-up cd, the HDD was nowhere to be found within disk utility. My computer starts up fine and the keyboard works fine when I have someone else's HDD in mine. I'm really surprised that the Macbook needs a good HDD to operate it's trackpad and keyboard. Thank you for your help! Although now I have a new question; is there any way to salvage the data trapped on my old HDD? Cheers!

  • Macbook Air Late 2010 model, 10.6.7, 2.13 4g ram. Trackpad is not working properly and in sometimes not at all.

Macbook Air Late 2010 model, 10.6.7, 2.13 4g ram. Trackpad is not working properly and in sometimes not at all. Need suggestions to resolve this issue?  I have applied all Mac updates and still having problems with the trackpad.

The machine has a 1 year warranty, book an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at.
You can try doing a SMC reset however I don't think that is the solution.
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    • On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-• Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.
