New router install crashes wireless laptop

I just installed a WRT54G2 router today. The PC that the router is installed on is fine and can access the internet, but when I powered up my laptop to use wi-fi on it to access the internet, the laptop will not come up to the desktop. It stops with a long error message and says a problem has been encountered and Windows has been shut down. If I unplug the power cord for the router, the laptop comes up fine but says that a "serious problem" was encountered but corrected. If I bring up the laptop with the router powered off, the laptop comes up fine but as soon as I power on the router, the laptop crashes with the same error message as above. (??!!) Any ideas?

This is not the router, but instead a bad device driver in your pc. If you have an internal wifi card go to device settings and remove it then reboot your pc and it will reload to original settings.
If you installed a wireless linksys card remove the card and its drivers, reboot and reinstall.

I had a new motherboard installed in my laptop and cannot hookup to my wireless connection. There is an unsecured network named 'linksys' which I assume is my router. So I tried the 'wizard' and everything was going smoothly until I put in the default IP address (192.168.1.1) and then it wants a subnet mask which I don't know. What am I doing wrong?

is there any wired/wireless computer going online through the router ?? let me know the router model number and the ISP deatils...

  • Printer no longer detected after new router installed. Tried everything. Please help!!

I have a Photosmart 2575 printer which has worked well for a number of years.  It has a wired connection to my router.
Recently I installed a new router (Sky fibre hub) and now the HP software (and any other printer/scanning software) is unable to detect the printer on my network.  This is odd, because both my desktop (wired network connection) and my laptop (wireless network connection) can see the printer and I can install it using the standard windows 7 functionality.  I can also browse the embedded web server, so I know for sure that my printer is on my network and accessible.
But despite numerous attempts to make the HP Solution Center software to work I am unable to print/scan etc from that software.  I have tried many different "fixes" including full Level 4 uninstalls before reinstalling the software, resetting the netowrk settings on the printer, deleting the printer from everything on the network etc etc but nothing has worked.
I have tried using the HP Print and Scan Doctor software but that doesn't help.
I am totally mystified by this apparent lack of connectivity.
    Can anybody help, PLEASE PLEASE!!

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Success at last, but only after many hours of trawling through HP and Microsoft forums, and numerous attempts to make the connection!
But here's a summary of what I did for anybody else with this issue:-
    1. I meticulously removed every trace of anything to do with HP from my PC and disconnected the printer from the network router.
This requires numerous "level 4" uninstalls to clear any previous falied installs and deleting everything in the temp file afterwards:-
    1. Press the Windows key, and the letter R
    2. Type %temp%
    3. Press Enter, or click OK
    4. Open the 7z folder
    5. Open the util folder
    6. Open the ccc folder
    7. Double click the Uninstall_L4
    2. Using Control Panel_Programs and Features, uninstalling anything left that might be HP related
    3. Carrying out a disk clean up using Start_Accessories_System Tools_Disk Cleanup and repeating this for system files
    4. Follwing the procedure found from the following link to check that the print spooling is working, and that any dependencies are "started":-
    Link to post
In that thread there is a further procedure to follow which requires opening a command prompt in administrator mode and carefully inputting the command line
    sc config spooler depend= RPCSS
(note the space after the = but not before)
    5. Running msconfig.exe and on the general tab, clicking "selective startup", unchecking "load startup items", then on the services tab, hiding all microsoft services, and deselecting all items [remember afterwards to re-run and go back to a normal startup!]
    6. Restart PC
    7. Disable Firewall [remember to enable afterwards]
    8. Launch Internet Explorer (I had previously been using Chrome)
    9. Download AIO software from HP website
    10. Run and connect printer when prompted (making a note of the printer's IP address)
    11. The networked printer wasn't found immediately, so click on advanced and then input the printer's IP address
    12. Success - the printer was finally detected and installed correctly.

  • HP L7780 Completely locks up after new router installed - MAC

I had to replace a Linksys router WRT54G with a newer model WRT1900AC Dual Band. The printer was working fine with the old router. Now I use the Wireless Wizard to set up the new router and it locks up. The only way to "free" it up is to turn the router off and turn the printer off, then turn the printer back on and turn the wireless radio off. I am using a Mac running OSX 10.8.5. I see in other forums to update firmware but that appears only to be on the windows side.
Any help is appreciated. I spent a lot of money on this printer to have to junk it.
    Thanks!

    Hello @3408RaissaS,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when attempting to configure wireless on your HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One Printer with your new wireless router. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
Now, due to the age of your printer there is no Firmware Updates available for your model of printer on your Operating System. Therefore, this will not be an option for your specific unit.
Because the printer worked wirelessly with your old router we know that the wireless card within your printer is functioning. Therefore, there may be a setting within the router that needs to be adjusted to allow for your HP Officejet to connect and communicate wirelessly.
Just to confirm, at which point does the printer freeze up (after you select your network name, enter your password, or when it tries to connect to the network)?
Because you're now using a dual band router it is crucial that you are connecting your printer to the 2ghz band. Printers are not supported on 5ghz connections. This means that the computers that you want to use wirelessly with your printer must also be connected to the 2ghz band. If you're not sure how to check what band you're connecting to, you may need to speak with the router manufacturer.
Please respond to this post with the answer to my question above. Once I have a bit more detail I will be happy to guide you towards a fix. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HP C7200 printer/scanner not working with Mac after new router installed.

I recently had my DSL modem go out and replaced it with a combo modem/wifi router. Since the install, my mac can't detect my printer. If I install it via the printer's IP, it'll detect ink levels for a day or two, but still won't print, and won't even detect the scanner. It says the printer is off-line when I try to print. I've rebooted everything, reset the printing system, downloaded updates, and downloaded the latest HP software. Nothing helps. So much for "just works".
My little Windows 7 computer was totally trouble-free after I reinstalled the printer.

If the printer does support Bonjour and it does not appear in the Default Add Printer view then I would say that the Mac is set to a different subnet to the printer (and the Win7 PC). This could also explain why you can add the printer via IP but it won't print.
If the Mac is definitely on the same IP subnet as the printer then check you don't have an application running that could block Bonjour.
With regards to IP queues, ensure you select HP Jetdirect rather than the default of IPP (Win7 will be using Jetdirect which is known as Port 9100). Also, some drivers cannot be used with network connections. If the printer supports Postscript then try a Generic Postscript printer to test. If it doesn't support PS but supports PCL then there is a Generic PCL Laser driver you would try.

  • Adding Canon MP620 printer to network after new router installed

Just changed routers in order to get fibreoptic. all devices easily connected apart from Canon printer. Have re-installed drivers and followed directions but laptop ( windows7) just can't detect the printer...?

This is device specific problem. Try to contact Canon directly for help
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/contact_us_consumer
Otherwise I would disable firewall and analyze the nework communication. If there are any error messages or error IDs in Event log (or even bad installation yellow question marks in device manager), then follow the appropriate troubleshooting steps.
It is useful to provide as much information as you can do so we can suggest repair steps. Sometimes it is better to remove driver with driver installation package and then reinstall the driver. (Otherwise some remnants of old driver software may case problems.)
Also optional update may cause ghost printer installation on different IP address.
Hope that the IP address pool is not exhausted and Canon can obtain IP address. (Ping may or may not work.)

  • Frustrated and Need Help with AE after new router installed

My AE worked fine on a previous router that ran through a modem. I now have a 2 Wire Modem-Router combo and cannot get my computer to recognize it. I am running Windows XP. I have plugged the AE base station directly into the router and configured it but, as soon as I disconnect the ethernet cable, it stops working. I have tried to join a wireless network in client mode but my computer, since it does not have a wireless card only a router, cannot see the base station. Which way do I go? Do I setup the base station while connected by ethernet cable or do I try to setup in client mode wirelessly? If while connected by ethernet, what settings? My routers is DHCP and does have a password associated with it?

Issue was addressed in another dicussion.

  • File and printer sharing with new router WRT100

I have a desktop PC running XP media center home edition hardwired to the router and a wireless laptop running Vista basic. About a year ago I was able to set up a wireless home network. I was thrilled to find out I could share files and a printer between the 2 PC's. Everything was working well until last week when my router died. I replaced the router with WRT100 and both PC's are back online but I lost file sharing. I am NOT technical and know little about PC's. I just stumble along. I spent hours trying to figure out the problem. I changed no seetings  on my computers except what was needed to install the new router.    What I do know is that the network wizard  is telling me the network is set up but when I go into a folder I want to share there is no tab that says "share file on the network". (when this tab was there I checked it and the under the folder an icon would appear to show the folder was shared on the network between the 2 computers).
I can share the files within the PC with other users but not on the network with my other computer. I checked all the settings and cannot find a problem. I tried to ping the computer but got an error.  Stuff was sent but not received, whatever that means???
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

If you are running any firewall, try disabling that. Make sure all computer's are set to same workgroup. Also turn on built on firewall on vista, and xp. Turn defender off on vista. Then try to ping and check for replys.

  • Wired PC and wireless laptops not communicating

Hey everyone, I recently switched from a wired router to a wireless router, the WRT54g V8.  Before the switch my PC (win XP srvpck2), 2 laptops (win vista)  and printer were all visible on the network.  All three computers had access to each other.
    Life was good.
Then the switch came.  Now the PC is wired to the new router and the two laptops are wireless.  The printer was wired up to the old and new router but now with the new router I had to hook it back up to just the PC.
All the computers have internet access.  The PC is stand alone right now but the two laptops can see each other on the network and share info.
I am hoping that someone knows how to get all my computers and the printer back together on a network.

hi... logon to router's setup page and try reducing MTU to 1365, click on wireless tab and try changing wireless channel to 11, click on advanced wireless settings try changing fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, make sure that AP isolation is off...also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...try disabling personal firewall and antivirus software on the computer...let me know the results.

  • WRT300N wont allow internet on wired DSL computer or wireless laptop

All lights are on. DSL works fine before connecting router. Connected router as shown in setup (computer to internet port on router, numbered port on router to modem) and as shown on website( computer to numbered port, internet port on router to modem).  The second setup allowed the router to be detected and setup finalized. Desktop pc has no internet when router connected. Wireless laptop shows connection but no internet. Anyone have any ideas?

Reset your router by holding down the reset button on the back for 30 sec. This should get you on the net but you will need to configure your router wireless settings to secure it. Good Luck!

  • I have a new wireless router and now my laptop will not recognize the printer.

I recently installed a new wireless router,Linksys E2500, and now my laptop will not connect to my OfficeJet 4500 wireless printer.  Operating system is Windows XP.  Says it does not recognize the printer.  It was working fine with my other Linksys router and I have been able to connect all of my other electronic equipment.  Thanks.

You must reinstall the full feature software and drivers again to be sure it will work with the new router.  This is the fastest way.  Simply follow the instructions that came with the printer.
