New s870 came with a two wire power supply, why no three wire

I just purchased a new Toshiba S870 laptop custom made with Windows 7 from Shanghai China. The laptop works flawlessly, but emits a lot of EM F radiation. It came with a two wire power supply and not like the three wire power supply that my wife's a Asus laptop came with. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the strong EMF radiation that I am recording on my tri-Field meter?
Has anyone had any experience with this type of situation?
I would greatly appreciate any knowledgeable persons response to this query.

It is time get a new one. Here's my guide* to dealing with such issues:

Buy it for the other computer. Mountain Lion is preinstalled on the new Mac, but you can only use it in the new one

How can I download video HDV minicassette footage from my sony video camera with no fire wire port?

    Hi,
Are you talking about your computer which has no firewire port ? If YES you can have one of two options:
    (a) Use FCI - Firewire card like this (preferred)
    You can buy from this:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Ports-PCI-Express-PCI-E-IEEE-1394A-Firewire-Adapter-Cable-Card-/1507023...
    (b) You can also use USB-Firewaire adapter like this:

  • Bought a new phone came with a new number

I recently bought a new pre-paid lg g2, and it came with a new number. However i would like to transfer my old number to this phone. Is there anyway to do this, no one has been able to help me? Please help thanks!

meg4200, keeping your number is important and we'd be happy to help. Do you already have an account with Verizon? Are you aware if it's a post paid account or prepaid account? Is the account still active? If you're coming from another carrier we can still port your number just the same. Take a look here to see some information on how to get this started.

  • New MacBook came with too many ilife discs, what's this about? and back up?

I'm a new user, and not a computer conoseur.
So, I got my macBook with max os x and ilife , ofcourse.
Now, when I pre-ordered my mac from the Apple store, I got other applications with it, .mac, office student edition, apple care, etc.
So, when I went to pick it up, everything was in a bag ready to go. And besides all my added appliations packages, there were 3 iLife packages. ya know, the little CD size software boxes you can purchase for computers.
But, now learning that my iLife info is included in the 2 Mac OS x discs that my MacBook comes with, what are these 3 iLife packages all about? is it a mistake? All the iLife I'll ever need is already on my computer and on my 2 mac os x discs right?
and how do I start my 30 day trial iWork?
and if I want to custom install my iLife, to get rid of stuff (just learning about this from this discussion board), by MacBook guides tell me to Back up my essentials/files first. How do I do this? and is it necessary? do I have to Erase and install everything? can't I just erase some stuff, like extra languages. And if I erase some stuff, can I add it back on later? And is there any iLife applications on the discs, that don't come pre-installed with my MacBook?
and what the heck is a destiniation disc?
    thanks,
    pre-mature user, jgsboston

    Welcome to the discussions!
All Macs come with iLife pre-installed, so if you bought for an received 3 extra boxed copies you should return those for a refund.
If you do an erase and install you will still have a copy of everything that came with your Mac on your install disks. You will be able to reinstall all that if you want to.
If you want to do this out of the box, then you do not have any data or files to backup, so don't worry. A destination disk is simply the disk that you want that data to be backed up to.

  • Problem with Time Capsule used with an External Hard Drive (with it's own power supply)

I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro with Mavericks installed. I have the latest Time Capsule (802.11 ac) with an external hard drive hooked up via the USB port. The external hard drive was taken from an older Mac desktop machine and is formatted correctly (Mac OS Extended Journaled). The external hard drive has it's own power supply and shows up fine when connected directly to my laptop.
For whatever reason I CAN see the hard (LAN Storage) when in AirPort utility but I CANNOT find or access the drive from anywhere within the Finder.
My finder settings are set this way:
My FInder appears this way, with the Time Capsule selected:
As you can see, the "Data" drive isn't displayed (it's not on the TIme Machine mounted drive either). The external drive "LAN Storage" isn't availailable anywhere either.
I've tried unplugging and restarting my Time Capsule and the External Drive with no luck.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

Welcome to Mavericks.. and its new concept of network drives not just being hard to find like in Mountain Lion but totally invisible.
Apple changed over Mavericks to using SMB2 by default.. broken and flawed SMB2.
Change over to AFP by manually mounting the TC drives.
I strongly recommend the first thing you do is change the TC names to SMB standard.. that just helps.
Short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
So rather than the very Generic THE Airport Time Capsule.. you make it even more Generic with TC1 (each subsequent TC increment the number. )
LAN Storage is not a good name either for USB drive.. especially now that it is WAN Storage.. WStore for example.. but whatever makes sense to you.
The name itself doesn't matter. .following the rules, short no spaces and pure alphanumeric does. Everything, conforms.
Now in Finder.. Go, Connect to Server.
AFP://TC1 or AFP://10.0.1.1 (you can use either the name (now that it is proper network name) or the IP address .. replace with your actual name or IP).
The computer will find the resources and then ask you for a password.. this is required, even if default,, which is public.. so type in your password or public if you did not change it.
Store the password in your keychain.
The TC should now mount and all the resources on it be made available or visible.

  • Does anybody know if it is ok to use a standard travel adaptor with macbook magsafe 85w power supply?

I am moving to New Zealand and want to take my macbook pro with me.
    I have a Magsafe 85w power supply.
I am aware of the apple travel kit.
Do i need to purchase this, or is a standard travel adaptor safe?
Do i need a lower watt magsafe power supply?
Should i get a grounded 3 prong adaptor rather than the ungrounded 2 prong adaptor that comes with the apple travel kit? Particularly with long term use.
    Thank you all!

The item that is crucial is the connector to the AC outlet.  The power adapter will work from 100 to 240 volts.
    Ciao.
A grounded plug is always preferable.

  • Does the new Time Capsule still have the exploding power supply?

I've always liked the idea of TC, except I read how the design is so bad, with power supplies that explode, fans that simply do not turn on (what is the point to that?) and so have a VERY short lifespan.
Has Apple finally designed the TC so that it will last as long as any other hard drive?  That would be nice.  Then I would get one.

I doubt the word explode is correct.. overheated and caused the capacitors to die.
The design is fundamentally flawed. There is no way a running fan can draw in cool air so there is no point running it. The unit is sealed so when the power supply does die, it cannot be replaced.. although as a part it is probably $20 and would be around half an hour of techs time to replace if they were made available. But no.. it is a consumable. Someone has been having to many executive lunches to understand the cost is significant to the hoi polloi even if Apple Executives miss the point.
The newer ones are definitely cooler running.. but the same design flaw hasn't gone away.

  • Connecting LabView with TDK-Lambda ( Genesys )Power Supply

Hello, I have a task of controlling my TDK -Lambda power supply (GENH 60V-12.5A) with the Lab view. I have already downloaded the drivers for it. It would be of great help if any one could provide me with a sample Labview code/program to command and control the voltage and current  outputs of the power supply. Thank you...

Every Genesys supply I have tried had the exact same SCPI protocol.  So those should work for your supply.  But you won't really know until you try it.

The on/off is part of the Configure Output function with the Enable input. There is going to be some lag between enabling the supplies because the commands will execute sequentially. It might be possible to set them both to software triggering and then issue a GET (Group Execute Trigger) bus command. That would be as close to switching them on at the same time as you are going to get. It has been a while since I've done this. I know the lower level GPIB functions has the TriggerList function for doing this but I'm not sure about VISA.
A hardware switching solution does make more sense here since you seem to desire deterministic timing.  Windows is not going to get you reliable switch timing nor is the devices communications interface (The device needs to receive and process the command before the action is taken.)  Many power supplies also have  hardware trigger inputs and outputs and can be configured to execute actions on these line state transitions.  This gets around all the communications and processing lag of the controller and allows a rapid response.

  • HT204154 My macbook with thunderbolt display without power supply stops working on battery mode, is that normal?

I use a 27" Thunderbolt display on my macbook pro. If I disconnect the power supply from the mac, the monitor stops working.
Is that normal or do I have to make some changes on the setup ?

    Greetings koningsvaren,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you connect your MacBook Pro to an external Thunderbolt display and everything works as it should while connected to power, but once power is removed from the MacBook Pro, the second display no longer functions. It sounds like you may be using this configuration with your MacBook Pro closed, otherwise known as closed-clamshell mode. In order to use a second display with your Mac portable in closed-clamshell mode, the Mac portable must be connected to power. Please refer to the attached article for more information. If this is not the case, please let me know.

  • Help with kernel and possible power supply problem

From 2 days after getting my imac I had my first Kernel restart.  Since then I have done everything apple has asked.  Ram resets and removing everything from the imac itself To find that it still had a kernel problem.  The error messages are Plugnplay or spinlock usually but have also been various ones such as  Kerneltask.  I have done a full reinstall of the operating system and only installed official apps from apple store, adobe flash and silverlight and next day was a kernel error for plugnplay.
The imac is currently in the shop for a look at but 2 phonecalls back saying they have had no evidence of errors. In fact its perfect for them.  The kernel is usually a few hours from turning it on but can go all day fine But they have had the imac almost a week.
So the only thing I can think of is if it works great for them is either they are really lucky or have a different electricity supply/cable.  So this leaves me thinking as stupidly as if it is working perfect for them then could it be a surge protector or power supply causing the random crashes?  Even something to do with the power lead itself?  I am really pulling at strings and going crazy because the only other thing I have been told to do is spend a week at a time just adding one thing at a time till the error shows itself so could be months and months.
i know kernel issues are historically hard to diagnose but any help would be great.  At the moment i have a £3000 paperweight on my desk thats only turned on a few hours a day  because I have no faith in it.

    Hi Joel,
For the external drive issue try resetting your firewire ports.
To do this, shutdown and disconnect the firewire devices from your computer and from each other if there is a chain of them. Now disconnect the power cords from both your computer and from the firewire devices. Wait fifteen minutes. Connect up again and see what happens. The FW ports on Macs have a 'self re-setting fuse" that requires all power to be removed for a period of time for re-activation.
You may also want to try a PRAM reset if that doesn't resolve the issue. Sometimes this can also be implicated in FW problems. Shut down. Hold down the command option p r keys. Now start up, keeping the keys mentioned depressed until the chimes have sounded three times.
    Cheers

  • Dock VB043AA (compatible with Elitebook 8470p) - which power supply ?

    Hello,
There are 2 docks compatible with the 8470p
    a 90w dock (VB041AA)
    a 230w dock (VB043AA)
I don't see real differences when checking the specs:
    http://portal.tugraz.at/portal/page/portal/Files/zid/files/datenblatt/computing/HP-Docking.pdf
Is it possible to use the 90w power supply using the "230w" dock ?
Why is there a power difference between the 2 docks ?
    Thanks a lot

  • Need help with my laptop's power supply

Hi! I have a Chinese power supply and I heard the Chinese voltage measurements can be different than North American voltage measurements. For example if an American measurement was 130V it would be a different number in China but be the same voltage. Is this true or a myth?
Here is all the power supply's information and picture:

  • Reset not working on iPad Air. I just bought this iPad Air from an individaual.  It was listed as new and came with the box, charger, and guide.  The seller said it was jail broken and I told him I did not want it jail broken  and he said he would reset

He said he would reset it to factory and I said ok I would purchase it.  He supposedly received it as a gift from his business and already had one.  Well it all looks in new condition and powers up and down ok, and connected to WIFI when I checked it out at Starbucks.  SIRI worked, Safari and the camers worked so I took it.  Nothing was on the screen but standard  app symbols you see on a new iPad.  I compared it to a display at a store.
Well when I got it home I plugged it into my computer and it asked me to trust and I said yes ond on the Air it asked to ok it and I did.  Then I tried to go to App store and it came up and asked for the password for a Apple ID.  Of course I did not have it.  I then tried to do a reset.  I went to Settings and did a reset erase everything.  It asked me twice if I wanted to reset as it was not recoverable.  I said yes.  It did not ask for and Apple ID or password. The Air reset started and the Apple logo came up and a bar started to move arcoss under it.  It almost became a full bar when the screen went blank and the little small rotating symbol came up.  It just kept rotating and never finished.  Had to do a hard reset holding the Home and Sleep button for 10 seconds and the the Air came back.  Everything is working on the Air except I can not get it to reset and link it up to my computer itunes.
    It is on IOS 7.0.4
I hope I am not out my $475.  Any help would be appreciated.  Any options or suggestions.
    Thanks.

You need to return it to the seller and get your money back.  You cannot reset or use the device with another AppleID installed unless you know the password for that ID.
If the device has been jailbroken, no one on here can give you any further help...the Terms of Use prohibit us from doing so.
