New Safari 4.0

I read the hardware requirements etc and I'm not sure this can be installed on my G4 ibook. I am using the latest version of Tiger. Has anyone tried this yet?

Your computer meets the requirements as long as you have more than 256MB of RAM in the computer. Just make sure you download the appropriate version (Tiger) and you should be good to go!
You may want to move your copy of Safari 3 to another folder so you can go back to it if you have problems.

Does anyone know how to do a text search in the new Safari for iPad iOS 7?

The feature has been removed to make safari even less useable. You need to download a third party browser like atomic web browser to get the functionality you want back.
Like many new IOS 7 "features", safari on the ipad is a FAIL.
At least you can now bury safari in a folder containing hundreds of icons that you can only view 9 at a time.

  • Where do I send a long list of problems I have with non-functionality with the Lion OSX and new Safari for Lion.

In the past two weeks I have been documenting my Lion problems.
First, Arrows gone from finder windows; makes it difficult in comparing long lists of files in folder, or compare documents when reviewing line by line. This is obviously a change by people who do not compare long lists in windows comparing files between versions of projects ... the click to next screen is NOT equal to arrows.
Second, Finder Redreaw - doesn't. Move files to a fold, if there are a lot of files, they image of the files being moved remains in finder (see attached screen capture) until Finder is restarted and if COPY function is running. last files in Copy queue are not copied.
Screen capture 5 minutes after moving files to a folder - the selected file images are still in Finder after the move was completed.
Third, it is SLOW, particularly going to an "Attach file" in email, drawing the content of a folder to select an attachment is long enough for me to go to the kitchen, get a drink and come back. Just like the old days of OS7.
Fourth, shifting/recentering screen away from where I am working. Several programs, browsers, Adobe Photoshop/inDesign, and dear old Pages re center my screen - not to the center, but if I choose 30 of 70 images in a folder, it will shift … somewhere else in the folder instead of where I just clicked. If I am working on a document in inDesign or PhotoShop it will do the same - the cursor and screen drift elsewhere to find something it has been amused by. Sometimes it is a word, or a file, but often it is off the pastboard and on the etherial pasteboard on which the pages sit. Or if I'm zoomed in on an image, it moves to somewhere else.
I use a mouse and keyboard, both Apple wireless. I do not use a trackpad, but have a tablet/stylus I am afraid to put into the mix until this crap is stopped.
Fifth, SAVE AS… is gone. You must unlock, duplicate and edit the duplicate … and must rename it in Finder, or use EXPORT to save as the same format under a new name. SAVE AS… worked. Not broke, why fix it?
Personal Comment: The problems seem to be the triumph of coked up software engineers ooohing and aaahing over "Wouldn't it be cool if..."   Cool, if they were Microsoft, and required everyone change how they have worked on Macs for the past (almost) three decades. Triumph of brainstorming over functionality.
Sixth, I can't use Cocoa Booklet, but that really started in OSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Most of my X11/Cocoa programs stopped worked about that time. Apple is no longer supporting "open source"?
    But Wait! There's More...
Seventh, Tonight, trying to download a 1.7 gig archive onto a disk where 280 Gigs were supposedly free, it would not download because, according to the wonderful new Safari and the wonderful new Lion, there is not enough disk space to download a 1.7 gig file in a mere 280 Gigs of free space.
I might be able to move Snow Leopard onto the iMac, but my deciding factor was that Apple, in its wisdom, decided to make iBook Author unable to run under Snow Leopard. So moving to Snow Leopard means I have lost the ONLY benefit I get from the new computer and the new system.
    This really stinks.

  • How to have new Safari windows open in full screen?

    Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to have new Safari windows take up the full screen. For example, if I click on a link that opens a new window, I would like that new window to take on the fully maximized setting of the window it came from. So even if the website code says the window has to be 50% screen real estate, I would like to be 100% every time automatically.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums!
Yet another great thing that Glims can do!
If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! (Such as automatically deleting Flash cookies, enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.
When you have it, the setting is in Glims Preferences/General

How can I reset Safari with all components? On my MacBook with Lion, Safari does not start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library does not help. Where can I find and remove all components as LastSession and TopSites?

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • How can I turn off Recently Websites when opening new Safari window? After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed.

How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.
    Have a blessed day.

  • How to make Safari browser always open a new web page in a new Safari browser window which was clicked from a PDF document URL

    Hi
I have a web application which would enable users to see a list of PDF document on the web page and when the user select the PDF document, it will be open by a adobe PDF view
Within the content of the PDF document, it will contact URL links to some other portal web pages which we would like these other web pages to be open in a new browser window, but our testing shows that the new web pages may not always open in a new browser window.
Could you help to advise how I can enforce that new web pages that are clicked from the PDF document can always be open in a new Safari browser window ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Sen Lee

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • My daughter downloaded the new safari update on her iMac and now it won't open without new os update

We downloaded the new safari update on my daughter's iMac and one it won't open without the new os.   How do we go back to the previous safari?   Thanks!

Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
    The version is noted there.

  • We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 if we upgrade to the new safari will it be compatible, and will it work with our bank?

We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 we have been getting messages that some site no longer support 5.1.10. I am concerned about upgrading, as we had trouble with a previous update with our bank. I checked with the bank and they are suggesting waiting, but other sites like youtube what the upgrade.  Has anyone had problems with the new safari? Our imac is pushing 8 years old, but we are not ready to replace it.

Upgrading from 10.6.8 to a newer OS has implications for many Mac owners. Lion (10.7) ended support for software that was originally written for older Macs that used Motorola processors. Owners who kept their software current had few issues upgrading to Lion when it was released but a lot of people suddenly found they had software that wouldn’t run any longer.
Another thing to consider is the age of your computer. A 2007 or 2008 iMac can run Lion fine and even Mt Lion (10.8) but Mavericks is a reach. It was Mavericks that prompted my purchase of a new iMac in late 2012. Given that you say your iMac is pushing 8 and you don’t want to replace it yet, don’t consider upgrading beyond Mt Lion. You won’t find Lion or Mt Lion for sale at the App store but I believe that you can still purchase them by contacting Apple directly.

No, not without upgrading to a higher version of the Mac OS. However, the easiest thing to do is get another browser for use with sites that don't like older versions of Saari. I always have a secondary browser on any computer, Mac or PC. For our Macs, I install FireFiox alongside Safari when setting up a new computer.
As FireFox is updated sometimes weekly, YouTube should not have a problem with it.

  • What's up with the new Safari? I've done all the "tips". Still slow!

I've tried all these prophylactic measures and read an hour's worth of articles about the new Safari (Version 5.0, 5533.16 apparently). But it gets stuck on even the most basic of Internet pages.
Safari used to load eBay, Associated Content, TED, YouTube, Craigslist, StumbleUpon, etc. in mere SECONDS. Now all I see is a loading bar that gets stuck about 1/16 (just past the www....) in the loading process.
Yeah, I've cleared the cookies and cache and all the whatnots. I'm not a computer genius but I can tell something is going on. Is Apple keeping a secret record of everything I do or what? Seriously, this is frustrating!
    To summarize:
I used to pop open Safari and get my homepage, www.google.com, in less than one second. Now I get a blank page that gets stuck, takes about thirty seconds, and then finally finds its way.
What can I REALLY do to make my new Safari work like it used to?
Or, how can I get the old version of Safari back?
And I've tried Firefox and other browsers, but they're messy and not as clean as my ol' Safari used to be. What's happening here?
I'm not impatient, I just can tell that something wrong is going on. And I'd like to fix it.

    Hi there!
Thanks for heads up. My Macbook says I'm running 10.5.8 right now.
    The steps I've taken:
I deleted the weird web icons document (I think it was a .dlb or .lb or something in the Library folder for Safrari in my hardrive) which didn't seem to do much, and I've went to my Safari preferences and deleted all ma' cookies, changes my cookie preferences to "only accept from sites I visit" and I've done the "delete cache" option from the Safari menu as well as the "reset Safari" option (which I regularly do anyway 'cause it seems to keep things moving quickly). I've also restarted my computer a couple of times, usually after completing one of these suggestions.
I'm using my computer from home on a wireless router thing from Netgear with super-high-speed way-too-expensive broadband Internet from our local provider, Charter. It's called a Negear Wireless Rangemax Router. I've never had a problem with it before, and 3-4 people use the Internet here at my home, often simultaneously, without difficulty.
I'm gonna' try pluggin' in the ethernet cable now. Thanks! I appreciate it!
--- I will say, after climbing up on a wobbly chair and plugging my laptop into the cable directly, that it worked a bit faster, but it still got "stuck" (which is what I'm now officially calling this phenomenon). For example, Google loaded in about five seconds instead of ten, and Safari generally responded better to random clicking around on links, but this page got "stuck" at "http://disc..." for quite a while (well, longer than your average modern day computer, I'd say; it still felt like I was on my old Powerbook) and then diddled around a while, until I refreshed the page and it loaded almost instantly.
I noticed, too, that the biggest problem it seems to have is loading new web pages that I don't visit frequently. For example, I'll search "Leo Tolstoy" on Google, click on the Wikipedia page, and it just stops! The blue loading bar gets to about "http://en.wiki..." and then it just plain stops. Just a few days ago, it would breeze along with super fast speed.
Thanks again. I appreciate your feedback!
Something fishy is going on, for sure.

  • How to force weblinks to open in a new Safari window

    Hi,
This morning, I just upgraded Lion from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4, and I upgraded Safari to Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2).  Since then, when I click on web links in messages in Mail, they seem to open in a tab in an existing Safari window, where they used to open in a new Safari window, which is what I want.  It also appears that these pages load, they are loading in an existing tab and flushing the history, so tabbed pages end up disappearing with no way to determine exactly what they once were.  My Safari tab preferences are "Open pages in tabs instead of windows:  Never", and the checkboxes below this option are both unchecked.  Any help would be much appreciated, as I usually have multiple Safari windows open, each with 2-4 tabs active, and this current behaviour is quite destructive.
    Thanks,
    Ken

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Stop "Open in Dashboard" widget from opening new Safari window when viewed

    Hi,
For the first time, tried Safari's "open in dashboard" to make a widget showing an area of a webpage that updates information frequently.
It worked, but now whenever the Dashboard is viewed, something in the code opens up a new Safari window, even starting up Safari first if need be. (Because of the url, I suspect some javascript is trying to set a third-party tracking cookie.) Safari preferences don't appear to matter.
Any way to prevent this?  2010 iMac/10.6.5/Safari 5.0.3.
    Thanks.

Every time I open a new Safari page on my MacBook Pro, it load the one(s) that are already open, instead of a new page. it's 8.0.2.  I already went to Preferences and it says new page will open to Favorites....but it doesn't.

    Hello beany1818,
Also check in Safari Preferences and look in the Safari Opens with and make sure that it is set to “with a new window” and not “all the windows from your last session”. Take a look at the article for more information.

  • New Safari on IOS8 on iPad air.

Hi. I just upgraded to IOS8 on my iPad air yesterday and wish I never bothered because the new Safari is ridiculously annoying to use. The address bar disappears when u scroll down and reappears when u scroll up. This is largely pointless to begin with but its a nice extra to let you use the whole screen, that's of course if it was practical and actually made browsing better.
You have to scroll far too far up to get the address bar and tabs back again. It's just so stupid why make people do that to change a tab. Why add that extra annoyance?
Also, when u zoom out on a page you are suddenly thrown into an odd windows where you can see all your open tabs. Why? Why would anyone want this? Not knowing anything about the feature I have closed tabs by simply not knowing what's happening.
This isn't related but I've been literally tortured with safari on ipad with tabs constantly refreshing which everyone has heard of and agree that it's very annoying. This just makes using safari a real chore.
If i was in charge of this and could sack people behind this I would sack them all. I love Apple software because it's so easy to use but no one seems to support that approach at apple any more.
Anyway im off to check safaris settings to see if I can disable these annoyances and get back to the easy to use safari. I cant check now because if I leave this page for a short while the oage will refresh and I'll have to type this all again lol. Dear goodness what is happening!
    Rant over.

great solution skydiver--to say go find another browser. Hate to be mean about it, not your fault.
but apple screwed up on this one. acting more and more like MS and for example MS office which expands to do so much that only power users appreciate it.
I have had apples since 1982 and the 2e and this update pushed me over the edge.
I hate the keyboard and the new icon figure at the bottom, which if you have been typing for decades its easy to touch/swipe and change the keyboard.
do not like the pull down for books marks changing back to left side and function pull down swithching back to right side not that I am comfortable with the reverse change of 2 years ago.
and do not like the idea of the bookmark pulldown staying there and making screen smaller so an extra tap is required to close teh pull down. Whose idea was that?
as long as I am here, the new iphone--actually some people like a smartphone with the smaller screen that gives functionality in  small package that could easily fit in a shirt pocket or slacks. ANot everybody is searching for a one unit solution to everything. any larger and we need bigger restaurant tables to hold 4-6 computers.
done with my rant too--it appears many others wil wake up today and upgrade and be surprised.
