New Safari 6.0.5 scores LOWER then 6.0.4 on Web Tests

Not sure what happened here, but unfortunately Safari 6.0.5 just broke something in Web Rendering and now is one of the very few browsers that does NOT score 100/100 in Acid3
6.0.4 DID score 100/100.  6.0.5 now scores 98/100

I get 100/100. If this issue is important to you, test with extensions disabled.

How can I reset Safari with all components? On my MacBook with Lion, Safari does not start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library does not help. Where can I find and remove all components as LastSession and TopSites?

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.

  • What's up with the new Safari? I've done all the "tips". Still slow!

I've tried all these prophylactic measures and read an hour's worth of articles about the new Safari (Version 5.0, 5533.16 apparently). But it gets stuck on even the most basic of Internet pages.
Safari used to load eBay, Associated Content, TED, YouTube, Craigslist, StumbleUpon, etc. in mere SECONDS. Now all I see is a loading bar that gets stuck about 1/16 (just past the www....) in the loading process.
Yeah, I've cleared the cookies and cache and all the whatnots. I'm not a computer genius but I can tell something is going on. Is Apple keeping a secret record of everything I do or what? Seriously, this is frustrating!
    To summarize:
I used to pop open Safari and get my homepage, www.google.com, in less than one second. Now I get a blank page that gets stuck, takes about thirty seconds, and then finally finds its way.
What can I REALLY do to make my new Safari work like it used to?
Or, how can I get the old version of Safari back?
And I've tried Firefox and other browsers, but they're messy and not as clean as my ol' Safari used to be. What's happening here?
I'm not impatient, I just can tell that something wrong is going on. And I'd like to fix it.

    Hi there!
Thanks for heads up. My Macbook says I'm running 10.5.8 right now.
    The steps I've taken:
I deleted the weird web icons document (I think it was a .dlb or .lb or something in the Library folder for Safrari in my hardrive) which didn't seem to do much, and I've went to my Safari preferences and deleted all ma' cookies, changes my cookie preferences to "only accept from sites I visit" and I've done the "delete cache" option from the Safari menu as well as the "reset Safari" option (which I regularly do anyway 'cause it seems to keep things moving quickly). I've also restarted my computer a couple of times, usually after completing one of these suggestions.
I'm using my computer from home on a wireless router thing from Netgear with super-high-speed way-too-expensive broadband Internet from our local provider, Charter. It's called a Negear Wireless Rangemax Router. I've never had a problem with it before, and 3-4 people use the Internet here at my home, often simultaneously, without difficulty.
I'm gonna' try pluggin' in the ethernet cable now. Thanks! I appreciate it!
--- I will say, after climbing up on a wobbly chair and plugging my laptop into the cable directly, that it worked a bit faster, but it still got "stuck" (which is what I'm now officially calling this phenomenon). For example, Google loaded in about five seconds instead of ten, and Safari generally responded better to random clicking around on links, but this page got "stuck" at "http://disc..." for quite a while (well, longer than your average modern day computer, I'd say; it still felt like I was on my old Powerbook) and then diddled around a while, until I refreshed the page and it loaded almost instantly.
I noticed, too, that the biggest problem it seems to have is loading new web pages that I don't visit frequently. For example, I'll search "Leo Tolstoy" on Google, click on the Wikipedia page, and it just stops! The blue loading bar gets to about "http://en.wiki..." and then it just plain stops. Just a few days ago, it would breeze along with super fast speed.
Thanks again. I appreciate your feedback!
Something fishy is going on, for sure.

  • How to force weblinks to open in a new Safari window

    Hi,
This morning, I just upgraded Lion from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4, and I upgraded Safari to Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2).  Since then, when I click on web links in messages in Mail, they seem to open in a tab in an existing Safari window, where they used to open in a new Safari window, which is what I want.  It also appears that these pages load, they are loading in an existing tab and flushing the history, so tabbed pages end up disappearing with no way to determine exactly what they once were.  My Safari tab preferences are "Open pages in tabs instead of windows:  Never", and the checkboxes below this option are both unchecked.  Any help would be much appreciated, as I usually have multiple Safari windows open, each with 2-4 tabs active, and this current behaviour is quite destructive.
    Thanks,
    Ken

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Stop "Open in Dashboard" widget from opening new Safari window when viewed

    Hi,
For the first time, tried Safari's "open in dashboard" to make a widget showing an area of a webpage that updates information frequently.
It worked, but now whenever the Dashboard is viewed, something in the code opens up a new Safari window, even starting up Safari first if need be. (Because of the url, I suspect some javascript is trying to set a third-party tracking cookie.) Safari preferences don't appear to matter.
Any way to prevent this?  2010 iMac/10.6.5/Safari 5.0.3.
    Thanks.

  • I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.

I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.
Then I tried to download Safari from Firefox but after finish download, what I got was a dmg file, with a pkg icon (an opened box) and it can't be installed. Same with Google Chrome.
My question is: how can I download Safari? And will it retain bookmarks?

Reinstall Safari from the Optional Installs.pkg on your Mac install disc that came with your iMac. Or in your case, you use Pacifist to extract the Safari app from the .dmg file.
    To bookmark a webpage:
Go to the webpage you want to bookmark. If you use tabs, you can open multiple webpages in tabs to bookmark them as a collection.
Choose Bookmarks > Add Bookmark, or Bookmarks > “Add Bookmarks for These Tabs.”
Type a name for the bookmark or collection in the dialog that appears.
Specify where you want to keep the bookmark or collection. You can add it to the bookmarks bar, the Bookmarks menu, or to a collection if you have created any.
    Click Add.
To add a bookmark quickly, click the Add button in the toolbar, or drag the webpage’s icon from the address field to the bookmarks bar.
To see your bookmarks, choose Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks.
In the future, rather then deleting an app, come here and ask for help first. More times then not, you will save yourself time and trouble.

  • New Safari 2.0.3 displays some Router Firmware pages as HTML Source text

      Hello Safari users and gurus.
I installed the new 10.4.4 Combo Updater yesterday, preceded and followed by permissions repairs and other maintenance, including cleaning Safari Caches. Safari 2.0.3 works.
My problem: 10.4.4's new Safari 2.0.3 displays HTML source text after I click "Save" from within my Linksys (latest firmware) router's web based administration pages that worked correctly with the previous version of Safari.
When I check or change my router settings, the initial router settings pages appear as they did with the previous version of Safari. However, with 10.4.4's new Safari 2.0.3, as soon as I click "Save" to attempt to save a changed router setting, the confirming info from the router is displayed as HTML source code instead of the expected HTML page display.
If I wait for the router lights to indicate activity has ceased and then reload the router's opening admin address, the page opens again normally, and I can navigate to other pages and see that the changes have been saved. However, any click on any "Save" changes button in the router's pages delivers another page of HTML source text.
I will watch for future router firmware updates to see whether the issue is resolved from the Linksys side.
Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement now? All assistance will be appreciated.
    EZ Jim

Thanks glefand. As you suggested, I tried my old iBook G3 that is still running 10.3.9, and it works fine for me.
My G5 DP also worked normally up through OS X 10.4.3. My problem only began after I installed the 10.4.4 update. I think the Safari update included with the 10.4.4 update is what is causing the issue with the firmware pages on my Linksys router.
Hopefully a future router firmware update (or Safari update?) will restore proper operation. If not, I will continue to reload from the router's Start page. The need to work around this glitch is annoying, but the actual function of my router setup works without problem, even though the pages do not display properly.
Thanks again for your helpful suggestion,

Might be an incompatible extension or plugin ...
Try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.

  • I can't install newer Safari or others...

My Safari is v. 3.0.3. When I click .pdf files on the web pages, mostly the browser crashes and accidently closed. And video (I think flash movie) from cnn.com is not working.
I tried to install newer Safari, I have enough hard space, about more than 40gb, but the installer said it can not install. I found there was same problem to install some other software.
What do I need to do to fix?
    Thanks in advance for help!

    Hi there:
If your computer system and update step is as indicated in
the signature line of your post, you will have to update the
Mac OS X system to 10.4.11 or Later for Safari 3.1.2 and
several other software updates to install and work there.
More recent versions of flash player and other software
may be required, in addition to a system update to 10.4.11.
Adobe has several players for flash and others; and a
later java version should be available from Apple directly.
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
A newer java and other updates would likely appear if the
Tiger system were upgrade to 10.4.11, disk permissions
repaired, then even Software Updates ran to see what is
available. At times, singular downloads from Support's
Download page of softare (standalone installers) is best.
Instead of trying to run a long list of software updates
which the more automated Software Update may supply.
From the Safari 3.1.2 Downloads page:
"Macintosh Requirements *Any Mac running Mac OS X
Leopard 10.5.4 or Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 (or higher)."
Most of the Tiger updates and new browsers, etc for OS X
are set up for the last version of 10.4.(11) with no surprise.
Be sure to use Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' before
and after software and security updates. It also does not
hurt to start the computer up in SafeBoot and then run the
Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' since a second type
of system check and repair is done, then restart normally.
    Good luck & happy computing!
    edited.

  • I've installed the new safari and it didnt load any web pages

i've installed the new safari and it didnt load any web pages  and i dont knw wut to do thank and pleas help as quick as possible

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Let us know after that what happens.

  • 10.4.11 Update and... no new Safari ?!

I've just applied the 10.4.11 update on top of 10.4.10, but there is no new Safari... What's with that?
I've moved the older versions of Safari into a subfolder. [ I've got a lot of apps and Apple's installers are almost unique in not letting people install the apps where they want them too... Yes, I know the story about not moving [some of] Apple's apps, so no need to tell me that. All previous updates just dump a new version into /Applications, but this one gives me nada. Not A **** Anything ]
The 10.4.11 updates in a single package, so without breaking into that I'm not going to find Safari 3.0.4 there. Its no longer on the Safari update page either. So how I am to get it? And why is it missing in the first place?
While I wait for any ideas, I'm going to stick an old version of Safari into /Applications and reapply the update to see if seeing something-that-looks-like-Safari is enough to prompt the blasted thing into updating it. I can't think of anything else. Either way its weird.

I've been doing this for years myself Rick, since at least System 9 days and probably System 8, but I forget now. I think you're misjudging my experience level
I once did just leave the applications alone and only the aliases, but I've enough now to justify organising the applications as well. I know Unix bin and lib folders often have hundreds of entries, but then they can be a pain to work with for precisely that reason... I have more applications than most through needing to maintain multiple versions for testing purposes (e.g. web browsers). It'd be more tolerable if I was only dipping into /Applications a couple of times a year, but thats not the case. (Having multiple versions can have their own issues, but lets not get into that.)
There is no fundamental reason why applications should have to live in just one directory and it causes some users to have to try "figure out" which camp each application belongs to, something they shouldn't really have to do IMO. There are deeper application and system design reasons why this "fixed location" approach bugs me, but a discussion of that belongs in a developer forum, not here!

every time I open a new safari page and scroll down it jumps back to the top of the page. Happens super inconsistently and not on every web page. Tried all the dum dum moves like restarting computer and changing scroll direction in track pad. Anyone else have a similar issue? mac book pro, newest version of OSX. Thanks all!

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Removing RSS feeds from mail in new Safari???

While I haven't yet uploaded Mountain Lion as I was waiting to observe all the little bugs that were sure to pop up, I did have a software update in which Safari was updated on my current Lion OS, which effectively made it the same version as Mountain Lion.
I also am disappointed regarding the removal of many RSS feeds that I had, I was also so stupid as to attempt to move forward on my own without further research. As a result, I now am getting a feed from a particular source into my email, which is driving me nuts since it uploads news feeds VERY frequently. And, frnakly, I don't want them in my email anyway.
So can someone outline a "For Dummies" version of how to remove the RSS news feeds from my email in the new Safari?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Found the Answer!!!! Click on the RSS feed logo in Mailboxes then go to 'Mailbox' in Mail menu, and select 'Delete Feed' And hey presto - IT'S GONE! YES!!!

  • ISR/Adobe possible on Acrobat version lower then 7.0.x

    Dear forum,
Working with ISR/Adobe forms I know it is common sense to use the latest Acrobat reader version, or at least 7.0.1. At a customer site we face serious compatibility problems with other software when using versions from 7.0.X . So it seems we are stuck on 6.0.x. Maybe you mind that 6.0.2 is mentioned in the ISR cookbook as the first possible release of Acrobat reader.
Unfortunately, however 6.0.2 does not seem to work properly. My question is: does anybody have ISR/adobe running with a Acrobat reader 6.x? In other words, if anyone had experience with modifying the ISR scripts to get it work on a release lower then 7.0.x?
I’am looking forward to your answer,
    Hans GM

    Hi Hans,
could you let me in on the incompatibilities (software, release, etc.) at your customer's site (directly if you prefer). This is quite crucial for SAP. If one customer runs into issues, others are bound to as well. (So far, luckily, we haven't heard of this yet, so it would be important to analyze whether the issue really is around Reader.)
Some background on the topic of Reader: With continuing development on both Adobe and SAP side, new requirements and features came up and into the product over time (including a new PDF spec, 1.6 instead of 1.5). Some features also required work on the Reader. If anyone has attempted to adapt the scripts to Reader 6, they probably had a difficult time. SAP also recommends to go the latest Reader release instead of sticking with 6.0.X. Apart from the annyoing Update available pop-ups in Reader...
