New Safari different on iPad

With the Safari update, the way to get out of an app has changed. The only way I can get out of an app, is go to the "double folders" on there right hand corner to view all pages and X out of those. Using ios8.1
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Don

Safari is a web browser, there are no Apps with in it. Only websites organized in Tabs.
If you have more than one Tab opened, then the current Tab you are in will feature the small in the corner to close it.
If you are down to a single tab, then yes you need to tap on the Thumbnails view icon on the top right corner of Safari, then either swipe it away, or tap on the small in the corner.

  • Can I turn off tab in the new Safari for ipad?

I want to turn off the tabs in the new Safari for my iPad 2. I have gone to the settings in Safari and can only select the types of tabs, why can't I turn tabs off?

You cannot turn the feature off. This is the way that Apple has now designed for it to work. If you would like to let Apple know how you feel about it, leave feedback here.

Try a reset then try Safari ...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

Does anyone know how to do a text search in the new Safari for iPad iOS 7?

The feature has been removed to make safari even less useable. You need to download a third party browser like atomic web browser to get the functionality you want back.
Like many new IOS 7 "features", safari on the ipad is a FAIL.
At least you can now bury safari in a folder containing hundreds of icons that you can only view 9 at a time.

  • How can you check a different iCloud account in safari in an iPad?

How can you check a different iCloud account in safari in an iPad?

As currently designed, you cannot. Once iCloud detects you are on mobile Safari, it switches you to the iPad screen.
If you had another browser that would allow you to pretend you were a desktop Safari client, ie8 or 9, or Firefox, that might work.
But, Puffin and Opera mini don't work.

  • Safari setting on iPad "Open New Tabs in Background" is not working

A couple of weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to see the tab bar in Safari, on my iPad, just like on my MacBook.
    So, I went to...
    Settings >> Safari
...and I turned OFF the setting "Open New Tabs in Background".
Then, the tab bar appeared and every new page that I opened displayed across the tab bar in a new tab, just like I wanted.
Today, I devised that I liked the pages in the background a lot better and I changed the setting to ON.
PROBLEM: the Tab Bar remains, no matter how many pages are open.
What's worse is that, in the menu bar, next to the bookmark and box-arrow icon, the numbered icon is missing (the icon that displays the number of the pages that you have open).
How do I get that icon back and the Tab Bar to disappear?

    Looks like some confusion here.
Safari on an iPad running iOS 6 as your signature implies does not open separate pages and the box with the number of open pages is not there. This was how Safari on an iPad worked in an earlier version of the iOS but safari presently only supports tabs.
When you select to turn on Open Pages in the Background, select a link and opening it in a new page will create a new tab and the link will load there BUT Safari on your iPad will remain on the original page. You'll need to tap the ba to see the new page. Turning off Open Pages in the Background will let Safari switch to the new tab immediately.
An iPhone, however, retains the old feature of separate windows and there is a box with a number at the bottom of the screen letting your know how many windows you have open.

  • New Safari on IOS8 on iPad air.

Hi. I just upgraded to IOS8 on my iPad air yesterday and wish I never bothered because the new Safari is ridiculously annoying to use. The address bar disappears when u scroll down and reappears when u scroll up. This is largely pointless to begin with but its a nice extra to let you use the whole screen, that's of course if it was practical and actually made browsing better.
You have to scroll far too far up to get the address bar and tabs back again. It's just so stupid why make people do that to change a tab. Why add that extra annoyance?
Also, when u zoom out on a page you are suddenly thrown into an odd windows where you can see all your open tabs. Why? Why would anyone want this? Not knowing anything about the feature I have closed tabs by simply not knowing what's happening.
This isn't related but I've been literally tortured with safari on ipad with tabs constantly refreshing which everyone has heard of and agree that it's very annoying. This just makes using safari a real chore.
If i was in charge of this and could sack people behind this I would sack them all. I love Apple software because it's so easy to use but no one seems to support that approach at apple any more.
Anyway im off to check safaris settings to see if I can disable these annoyances and get back to the easy to use safari. I cant check now because if I leave this page for a short while the oage will refresh and I'll have to type this all again lol. Dear goodness what is happening!
    Rant over.

great solution skydiver--to say go find another browser. Hate to be mean about it, not your fault.
but apple screwed up on this one. acting more and more like MS and for example MS office which expands to do so much that only power users appreciate it.
I have had apples since 1982 and the 2e and this update pushed me over the edge.
I hate the keyboard and the new icon figure at the bottom, which if you have been typing for decades its easy to touch/swipe and change the keyboard.
do not like the pull down for books marks changing back to left side and function pull down swithching back to right side not that I am comfortable with the reverse change of 2 years ago.
and do not like the idea of the bookmark pulldown staying there and making screen smaller so an extra tap is required to close teh pull down. Whose idea was that?
as long as I am here, the new iphone--actually some people like a smartphone with the smaller screen that gives functionality in  small package that could easily fit in a shirt pocket or slacks. ANot everybody is searching for a one unit solution to everything. any larger and we need bigger restaurant tables to hold 4-6 computers.
done with my rant too--it appears many others wil wake up today and upgrade and be surprised.

I can't open a new tab on Safari on my iPad air

I downloaded the new iOS 7 and i can't open safari in my iPad mini, what's going on?

You can't open it meaning it does not launch when you tap on the app icon? If that's what's happening try this and then see if Safari will launch.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Now close Safari. To close Safari, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to Safari and then swipe "up" on the Safari thumbnail app to close it.
Now reboot the iPad. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If Safari does launch and this isn't what you are experiencing - you need to explain in more detail what is going on.

  • Hi I seemed to have picked something on my MacBook Pro that hits me with a survey that involves winning a new iPhone 5 or iPad.  Is there anything you can advise to get rid of whatever it is?

    Hi Anybody
I seemed to have picked something on my MacBook Pro that hits me with a survey that involves winning a new iPhone 5 or iPad.  Is there anything you can advise to get rid of whatever it is?  Bear in mind I am a greenhorn with regard to computers!
Computer: 2.8 GHz intel core 2 Duo MacBook Pro computer with  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
I did download clamXav software as someone on line recommended it which duly scanned my computer and located some infected files.  However, I don't know how to select these files to delete them.   Does anyone know an idiot's guide for this software?
    Regards Art4

      Quit Safari.
Hold the shift key down and relaunch Safari.
    Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to  " Remove saved names and passwords".
    Click "Reset".
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.

The website may have a preference for Flash before using Javascript.  Try a different browser like Skyfire (or whatever.)  Regardless, if it's using Flash, it's probably not going to work very well with the iPad.

As has been discussed here about a trillion times, there is no Flash or Java on the iPad.  You are SOL.
Just an FYI, Java is not the same a Javascript.  Safari on the iPad has Javascript, but not all websites work correctly with mobile versions of web browsers.
