New Safari interrupts my typing in address bar

For the last 10 years I haven't had this problem at all, but with the new version of Safari I am.
Basically if I open a new tab or something and start typing in the address bar, before I get finished typing, it will stop my typing and take me out of the address bar when the page loads.
This is super annoying that I have to wait for a page to completely load before I can start typing in the address bar.
Is there a way around this??
It's happening to me constantly and is bugging me so much I had to make a new topic about it.
Try it yourself, open a new tab and start immediately typing.
It will interrupt your typing when the page loads and you have to again, click in the address bar to start typing again.
If anyone could help that would be awesome!
Thanks

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

What seems strange is that everything else works fine. I can check my rss feeds and I can even type into the google search bar and pull up the website I need. I just can't use the address bar. I'm thinking this might have to do with the new features in Safari 5 but I don't know enough to pin it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This seems to be an issue for other users as well.
Edit: I Have "Reset Safari" and it seems to be working for now. I'll give it a while and see what happens. I thought it was strange that I should have to do this but I read it on another post. It seems to be working so far. Perhaps there is something else though that is crashing it? I'll leave this open until I get a response.

I had this exact problem on Windows XP. As soon as I tried typing in the address bar, crash. Every single time. I also reset everything and it stopped the constant crashes related to the address bar. It still seems much less stable than Safari 4, as I cannot got more than a couple hours without a random crash still occurring.
I have reset Safari again and went a step further and uninstalled it, uninstalled all Apple software, deleted all Apple data from Documents and Setting (All users and my user), reinstalled Safari (and iTunes, mobileme control pane, etc)...still crashing frequently, usually at least once an hour but never less than once every couple hours.

  • Prevent Safari to automatically go to address bar on opening a new tab?

I just got a mac and I absolutely love it, I have been equally impressed with safari. Yet, when I open a second tab in Safari it always seems to automatically go to the address bar instead of going to the google search field. This seems odd as opening 3+ tabs always goes directly to the google search location. Anyone have any idea how to make it default to the google search field?? Thanks.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Going to the Address Bar is the default action. To change it, download/install 3rd party add-on Glims. Once installed you'll find Glims' preference options as a separate panel in Safari Preferences. In the "General" subsection, select "focus search field" when opening new window.
You'll discover a host of added features, including Tabs and Search Engines. Makes Safari that much better.

  • New download won't open links, nor will it go to web addresses typed into address bar. Never had this problem with previous version.

I just upgraded to the newest version of Firefox. In this new version it sometimes won't open a link even in a search engine such ask Yahoo. It also won't ever go to an address I type into the web address bar. I have never ever had this problem with a web browser so I know it's not me. I've never had this problem with Firefox before either. Please fix this bug.
    Thanks.

  • Problems with Safari showing my activity in address bar..dont want to see that!! (Yosemite)

    So unbelievably annoyed by this!
So on the safari address bar, when I go to type in twitter.com or instagram.com or anything, it shows "Top Hits" and "Bookmarks and History"
And shows some Top Hits like some peoples instagram I go to everyday and twitter, and it shows:  "Khloe on Instagram: Happy Birthday to one of the..." and shows the insta post caption, or top twitters of people, sometimes twitter.com/taylorswift13 on top hits and so other people like my friends that i stalk
THIS IS SOO ANNOYING and there is NO way to escape it!!
I went to Preferences > Search> and Un-checked "Pre load top Hits in background" and "Show Favorites"
I clear website history 3x a day, I turned off computer, I removed all cookies again right now, I turned off Safari from iCloud in my iPhone incase that was the issue...
    NOPE!
Basically I do not EVER want to see a drop down of "Top Hits" or "Bookmarks and Favorites" with a list of some sites I've been to when I start typing in twitter.com/ or instgram.com/ or any other future sites (and its not even the ones I frequent, since it just shows the instagram post, I only clicked that once, for example)
Also, I never bookmarked and favorited those sites so makes no sense? There has GOT to be a way to do this! Apple I KNOW there is a way, I would REALLY be the happiest person if someone could help me out!!
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] Google chrome/chromium freezing when typing in address bar

Hello again everyone, sorry to bother you.
Im using Arch 64 bit + kde.
Recently my chromium began freezing at random when I begin typing in the address bar. Since it persisted after several updates I installed google chrome beta from AUR, and the problem persists there. I've tried deleting the configuration directory to no avail.
I am a web developer and therefore this is kind of extremely annoying, I need more browsers than just Firefox so I thought about asking your help, are there any of you with a 64 bit arch system in which chrome works flawlessly? Did you do anything special?
Im beggining to think this is a chrome bug:
    http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/C … 253b&hl=en
I found as well an old thread here in the forums:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=129632
But I decided to not be a thread necromancer.
My google chrome version is: 18.0.1025.39 beta
    My chromium version is: 17.0.963.56
I'm willing to recompile this thing if you think that will help, but I've heard horrible stories about compiling chrome. Any help will be tremendously appreciated.

yes, my card is nvidia 8600GT.
This morning I spent a few experiments.
    1. I noticed that if you run full-screen application (game), then when you try to switch to the console - is a black screen without text, a problem arises as in KDE and in xfce, if you switch to the console without running full screen applications, the when switching to the console you can see the shell prompt to login (enter your login and password), both in KDE and in xfce.
I tried to remove the option "VGA = 773" from the boot parameter has the kernel (GRUB), and the problem with switching to the console was gone.
    2. I made a nvidia-xconfig, creating a file /etc/x11/xorg.conf, rebooted (with the VGA = 773), and logged in to KDE user denis (yes my name is Denis too ), the name of my new account, the name of the old - user0), and the Problem with switching to the console was gone, at least for now.
I think that the Problem with chromium somehow connected with the fact that the video card is Nvidia and its mode of operation, which hurt when you log in to your account.
How does chromium in KDE in your account until Dennis, I have not tested that particular - will be tested, the result accomplish your goal.
So try to remowe vga=773 from kernel line, and and see how it will work chromium.
But i still dont know, why chromium work fine in xfce, but freezing in KDE...

  • Cursor location in new tabs defaults to the omnibox/address bar

I have set new tabs to open google.com (using New Tab Homeage 0.4.3). However, in new tabs, the cursor position defaults to the omnibox/address bar. I want the default cursor location to be the google search field on the web page (if you must know why, it's because I love the lightning-fast search suggestions). I want to just hit CTRL+T and start typing my search. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

    this bug refers https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1107844
For the moment don't use enter or tab to move to the next field.

  • S4 on Vista locks up typing into address bar

Safari 4 opens the home page fine. If I click on any links in that page they open fine.
When I try to type a URL into the address bar, it locks up. Even with just one letter typed. I haven't even hit 'enter'.
    What now?

I get the same problem. I open Safari no problem. But it won't load a single website, not even the apple homepage. I try to go to google, myspace, anything, and nothing shows up. I'll close Safari and try to re-open it and it wont even re-open. I've been forced to go back to ie8 and frankly I don't enjoy using said internet browser.

  • When opening new tab, text placement defaults to address bar, any way to change it to the new page (like Google)?

When I click on the plus for a new tab, which automatically takes me to google.com so fine, but the cursor is in the address bar. It looks like the cursor is in the google search field, but it isn't.
When I click "home" the cursor defaults to the search field, which I feel is proper. Is there a way to have FF not default to the address bar for text input when opening a new tab?

I doubt it. Google controls both their search and their browser and they integrate the features. But you can use "Ctrl+K" to place your cursor on Search Bar" within your Firefox toolbars. Pressing the TAB key is pretty much a waste of time since there are a lot of links before you get to the input area.
There might be an extension, if it bothers others, but I can't see a valid trade-off to justify using an extension for something that seems trivial to me.

  • Open in new tab when dragging url in address bar

    Hi,
when using Firefox on a Windows system, i can get a url (not hyperlink) opened in a new tab by dragging it to the address bar while holding Alt key on the keyboard.
Now I'm using Firefox (last version) on a Linux system (Linux Mint 14, precisely) but I can't do the same; is there any solution to reproduct this behaviour?
    Thanks in advance

Does it work if you press the Return key afterwards? That is what I have to do with a Mac, anyway.

  • Safari crashes when editing the address bar

I'm running Safari 3.2. Whenever I try to input text in the address bar, Safari stops responding and I have to Force Quit. Everything else seems to be working normally. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi,
With Safari open, from the Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache
A disk utility can help you do maintenance to keep Safari functioning as it should, here are several to look at:
Onyx, is free and available here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070&vid=476445&mode=info
    MacJanitor is good also: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10491
I suggest downloading from Version Tracker so you can view the Reviews/Customer Feedback and make a decision based on the information provided by users.
If you install Onyx, run the Maintenance and Cleaning scripts and reboot.
Also, make sure you have enough available disk space. Select your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, press Command + I which will prompt the Get Info window. Where it says: General click the black arrow so it faces down. You will see: Capacity and Available Never allow the available disk space to fall below 15% of the total drive, 20% is better. Not enough free drive space will slow your Mac down, cause apps to crash and freeze... hence the spinning beach ball.

  • I just downloadd safari and i have no address bar?

nor do i have anythin else, no "file" or "view" there is only the bookmarks bar how do i fix it?

Launch Safari. Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys and press the \ key. That should get you back your Address bar. Click the wee coggy thing at the far right of the address bar to see Show/Hide commands for other bars (like the Menu Bar with your File and Edit menus and so forth). Add back the other bars you want.

Does anyone know whether or not Safari update 5.0.1 fixes the problem that many users have with the address bar causing safari to crash? I am hesitant to download it because of the issue in Safari 5.

I have experienced the same problem and also noticed that if you paste any address in the address bar or search box on the right, then press enter nothing happens.

  • WHen I try searching by typing in address bar, I found yahoo as my default search engine which I want to be changed to google.

''Duplicate post, continue here - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/816389]''
There are 3 different options for searching in Mozilla
    # Open Google.com and start searching
    # Enter your search string in Search bar
    # Enter you text in address bar and press space bar and then press enter.
Now when I try to search through address bar then I found yahoo as my default search engine which I want to be changed to Google.com
Please tell me the way of changing this.

This issue can be caused by an extension.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
