New security upgrade

My IBook G4 will not go to sleep since I installed the latest security upgrade. The screen saver comes on but the Laptop does not go to sleep.

You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it. It ought not to be related to any Apple security update.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • 7.3.2 Upgraded with new security upgrade with bad result

Upgraded and now have a dim terminal screen. How do I get a fully lit screen?
    Message was edited by: ricardojh

What do you mean by a "dim terminal screen"?
In the meantime, do the following if your computer is otherwise operational:
Disconnect all peripheral cables (if any) except from your keyboard and mouse
    Repair permissions via Applications/Disk Utility
RESTART the computer ..... Repair Permissions again
    Reconnect the cables
Let us know how that works out.

  • Cannot Print After Installing Latest Security Upgrade

Yesterday I downloaded and installed the new Security Upgrade from Apple. Today after restart I cannot print with my Brother HL-1440 printer. I downloaded and reinstalled the printer driver. Still doesn't work. Thank you Apple.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Blawrimore,
Have you had a chance to read through the support docs at the Printers website?
I found these two that may pertain somewhat to your problem that you may want to look at:
    http://solutions.brother.com/Library/faq/printer/prfaq0797/prfaq0797.html
    and
    http://solutions.brother.com/Library/faq/printer/prfaq0796/prfaq0796.html
Looks like you are supposed to delete unnecessary printer drivers of other manufacturers and to be sure you "reselect" the printer in Print Center after downloading their drivers.
And, I'm sure you downloaded the correct driver, but certainly wouldn't hurt to double check that it is the correct driver. (that sounds like something "I" would do.....)))
Sorry if these don't help any,

  • I really don't like the new version of Firefox. Can I get the old version back while still getting the security upgrades?

I dislike the appearance of Firefox 4.0 for Macs. Nothing about it is intuitive. Can download the old version and still get security upgrades?

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Firefox 3.6 is still supported but I don't know how long for.

  • Internet/Router issues and new "secure email"

I'm supposed to have a 35MPS internet plan. When I switched to the higher speed plan, I paid for the Verizon router and installation.  I have both a Mac and Windows 7 Laptops as well as an older netbook.  To say that the wireless connectivity sucks would be complimentary.  I've used the automatic troubleshooter....I've looked through forums and followed advice on settings etc...with no joy.  Before I "upgraded" I had my own belkin n router.  Even though the router is downstairs in an office , with the belkin, I could connect on my back deck and all but the furthest upstairs rooms in the house.  Since I "upgraded"  the wireless won't stay connected with line of sight 8 feet from the router so we have cables trailing thru the living room.  For the brief moments when wireless is connected it is slower than dial-up.  The cabled connection seldom exceeds 10MBPS ( this is where they tell me the plan is "up to" 35MBPS")
We have a mountain home with DSL and a VERY basic wireless router.  Both the Mac and PC connect effortlessly and even my very untechsavvy wife mentioned how much faster the 3MPBS DSL service is than FIOS.  Her next question "Tell me again why are we paying so much for FIOS?"
The latest debacle (forget that companies choose to not learn from others mistakes, think Netflix here) is the new secure email settings. I updated my Mac and my android in strict compliance with the Verizon directions and for a few minutes all was well.  Today I can't connect through my android.  An "authentication error receiving" message show up with a note to check my settings only I HAVEN"T CHANGED MY FLIPPING SETTINGS!  Now I have to go in and re-enter my account password several times a day to get into my email account when the PW is stored in my phone!  I consantly have to rest the Mac as well. (Hmmm no yahoo, gmail  issues and they are free....)
To be fair I haven't called in the issue with the wireless connectivity because I have called before on other issues and frankly I don't have the time to wait on hold.  The last time I had a "technical problem" with my service I ended up telling the tier 2 tech how to fix the problem.
As a Quality Assurance /Customer Service professional,  the one thing I can tell Verizon is that there is no marketing campaign that will overcome word of mouth reports on poor service and response.  I installed FIOS years ago when it was first available in my neighborhood.   Service was reliable, customer service responsive and capable.  That all seems to have gone by the wayside to improve the bottom line.  Volume can go a long way to masking attrition for quite a while, but it isn't sustainable.  The cable companies in my area have an even worse reputation which is the only reason I've not yet left...and that's a really crappy reason to stay.
I understand that it's the processes and the system which are hosed up.  The poor CS reps are customer facing and they take it on the chin for every corporate decision viewed as stupid by customers. There may be a few really bad customer service reps, but the majority of  CS reps DON’T come to work to see how many customers they can **bleep** off.   CS Reps are only as good as the process under which they must work.  When working with organizations and speaking with CS reps one question I always ask is "How long would you put up with what you put out if you were dealing with another company?"  Then I suggest that the leaders/managers attempt to call in with a problem using only the same avenues available to paying customers.
Companies should also must realize that the "cancellation fee" they threaten people with is usually about a month and a half worth of service.  After that it's money back in the consumers pocket, or more likely into competitions pocket and not in Verizon’s pocket.  It’s the principle of the fee that keeps customers hanging on.
Now that I’ve vented if anyone can tell me a better router to use than the one Verizon gave me, I’m all ears.  I really don’t care about remote accessing my DVR.

Since you already have the Belkin and know that it works well, I would suggest hooking that up to the Verizon-supplied router and using that. Turn off the wireless from the Verizon router.

  • Appleworks crashes after security upgrade

I successfully ran Appleworks 2 weeks ago. I did a "security upgrade" today which updated many files. Now I cannot open Appleworks for a new file, for my 2 week old file, or even on the templates. The starting window comes up and immediately crashes. I deleted the preferences file and the com.apple.appleworks plist. I checked that I have Bauhus 63?? or whatever font was suggested as a problem. What more can I do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Margie
With thanks to Barry, whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences).
To Repair permissions in 10.4.x, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
(Also explained in my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly.)To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.
The security update won't install Bauhaus 93, so if you have it, you probably had it before &, since AppleWorks was working correctly before, I would guess that you have the newer, not-corrupt, version from Word 2004.

  • Can't choose new security questions?

When I upgraded to iOS6, I got the message to create three new security questions to improve Apple ID Security. I can't download any new apps now because of this message. However, when I click on Continue to set them, it asks for my password then takes me to a browser page with three items: Choose Question and Answer for each. You can't choose a question as there is no link to do so. You can only enter an answer and when I enter three answers and choose submit, I get a session timed out response. Three times.
I haven't been able to fine anywere online to enter these questions either. On my account, there is still just one security queston and no option to add others. Anyone found a solution to this yet?
    Thanks

This is FRUSTRATING me on iPad.
As fast as can input answers to Security Question it always times me out.
    Cannot download apps.
Saving me money but not happy.
This happened straight after downloading iOS6.

  • Mail 4.5 does'nt respond after OS X 10.6.8 security upgrade

i've upgraded OS 10.6.8 yesterday and i can't use mail 4.5 anymore....that's a huge problem 'cause all my contacts and professional mails were in this app...i haven't found any answer in the download aera for a new version of mail...
i've tried to install thunderbird but importation is very complex, opera works but not properly (haven't imported all my mails)...
    any advices ?
    best regards
    gilles

I am also having the same issue.  Anyone else?
I have been running 10.6.8 for several months without issues until today.  Mail freezes my OS as soon as it launches today - force quits do not work so I must restart. It did this sporadically before, but now every time since the security upgrade.  My Mail version is 4.6 so i'm not sure about 4.5 - I thought Mail  updates with the OS upgrade.
    Any advice?

  • OpenGL performance issues after security upgrade...

    Hi,
after the recent security upgrade of yesterday, I see again the OpenGL problem in the virtue desktop Cube effect on my 17" MacBook Pro. The effect is that the cube does not rotate completely smoothty. This was exactly the same as after the first 10.4.7 upgrade that missed some essential opengl components. Reupgrading to 10.4.7 using the "global" update the cube effect was perfectly smooth. Looks like this time again something like this happened. What was the OpenGL component that was wrong in the first 10.4.7? Just to compare if it got changed again or replaced by another faulty version.
    Cheers, Fons.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If your Build says 8J2135 it's the 'bad' release missing new OpenGL bits ... install the latest (corrected) 10.4.7 Intel Update and it will fix things and show Build 8J2135a

  • Why should I have to give up other apps. for a new Firefox Upgrade?

Today (Fri; 6/24/11) I got a pop-up informing me of a newer version of Mozilla Firefox. I have been using it for years and LOVE the browser; BUT.... AFTER it was installed, it tells me that DAP apps; download accel; video accel; DAP downloads; and about 10 or 12 other apps WON'T WORK with the new Firefox upgrade.. GEE, THAT'S NICE! WHY didn't you tell me that BEFORE I clicked the upgrade. That's the POLITE and PROPER way to do it. BESIDES THAT, I got an (an I think, PHONY) "looking for compatible apps installer" that ran & ran & ran & ran & ran & ran & ran AND APPEARED TO BE INSTALL-ING NOTHING AT ALL. It appears I may HAVE to UNINSTALL the upgrade and roll-back my browser because I REFUSE TO NOT USE THE APPS I WANT TO USE. LET'S GET IT TOGETHER, FIREFOX... IT'S A GREAT PRODUCT, LET'S NOT MAKE IT LESS BY MAKING USERS HAVE TO GIVE UP APPS THEY LIKE... George

Do you recall what version you were using before the update? Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended.
If Firefox disabled some add-ons (especially extensions), it likely is because they include a list of compatible Firefox versions and haven't yet been updated for Firefox 5. If they worked on Firefox 4, there is a very good chance they will work on Firefox 5.
You can force Firefox to ''ignore'' add-on version restrictions by (what else) installing an add-on. Then you can test whether the add-ons important to you actually work in Firefox 5.

  • Am being prompted to enter security questions when making a purchase on my new IPad.  I don't believe I have ever setup security questions on my apple id.  How to I create new security questions?

I am being prompted to enter security questions when making a purchase on my new IPad.  I don't believe I have ever setup security questions on my apple id.  I have tried logging into my apple id and have chosen the security and priviacy settings to set up security questions.  However I am prompted to enter answers to security questions and am told they don't match.  How to I create new security questions or reset them?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade?

    Dear wise & wondeful people:
How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade? Half of my contacts, notes, ect. were on my iCloud so have happily moved to my new iPhone but the rest are completely resistant. For example, on my iCloud I have 14 missing contacts starting with the letter A alone, however they are happily viewable on my old iPhone 4S and won't budge over into the iCloud.
There are also 3 notes missing yet still acessible on my onld iPhone 4S, the list goes on.
Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much.

I checked in database , the security group Test_111 is not present in ROLEDEFINITION table.
    What could be the issue?
    Regards,
    Minal

    1) Try importing CMU bundle with 'Overwrite Duplicates' option unchecked .
    2) In the CMU bundle, open file roles_guest.hda and see if 'guest' role has access to any group that start with special character or group you haven't created in the system..
    Eg: guest
    #AppsGroup
    0
Also open securitygroups folder in CMU bundle, and see if you can find any groups that starts with special character or group you haven't created in the system.
    3) Identify that group and execute below query in the UCM database.
    select * from roledefinition where dgroupname= '#AppsGroup';
Replace '#AppsGroup' with the groupname you identified.
    4) Solution would be to delete all the rows with dgroupname= '#AppsGroup' from the 'roledefinition' table.
    delete from roledefinition where dgroupname= '#AppsGroup';
Replace '#AppsGroup' with the groupname you identified.
