New shuffle lost its battery charge

I bought a new shuffle Tuesday and tried to set it up yesterday. I charged the battery for 4 hours and it lit up green indicating a full charge. However, when I was ready to to start the transfer, it apparently had lost its charge as it lit up amber. Not only that, but even tho I followed the set-up instructions to the letter, there was no indication that the computer recognized the iPod even after running the installation disc thru again.
What a disappointment!

I agree with you sir....same problem with me....my 2nd shuffle is a week old.....I have never ever seen a steady green or an orange light even after 20 hours of continuous charging though an USB 2.0 port on a Win XP Pro desktop PC....All I see is a blinking orange....I have tried following the doc that was suggested to you....reseting it five times......nothing works......contacted apple chat support.....they ran me through the same steps.....does not work....trying a different port and a different computer does not help either....I go to the local apple-authorized dealer from where I bought the shuffle....they have look at me as if I just spoke some fluent Chinese!!...they have absolutely no idea of what I am talking about....they are very ignorant...I am extremely disappointed.....showing them the apple support pages drew the reaction "Oh my god...what are these pages all about...why do they even exist?"......I have done a better job at looking at a solution....but so far I have not been able to find a solution to this problem.......Can someone offer a solution!!!!!!!...........
I am just waiting to discharge it completely and then check it for the last time before I take it back to the store....

My iPod Shuffle started losing its battery charge overnight.  I keep it turned off.  Is there any way to fix this, or should it be scrapped?

  • Should a Mini Ipod retain its battery charge even if it's switched off?

I charge my mini ipod until it's fully charged. Unless I use it right away, it loses its charge. For example, if I charged it, and then didn't use it for a day, when I switched it on, it would have lost some battery already - even if I've made sure it was switched off and the Hold button was switched on.
I've spoken to friends who have ipods and they never have this problem - one friend hasn't used her nano for over two weeks but it still has the same amount of battery left as when she first used it. I would never be able to do this. Essentially it means for me that whenever I'm not using my ipod I would have to make sure that it's charging otherwise when I did use it it might have lost some or all of its battery charge.
I'll admit I'm not amazingly technically savvy with my ipod but I was surprised that the battery didn't last. After all, if I charge my mobile phone and then switch it off it keeps the charge.
Is there something wrong with my mini ipod? Or something wrong with me!!!!
    Thanks everyone

All iPods lose some amount of charge from the battery even if switched off. Depends on how much charge to say whether, in your case, it's normal or not.
I wouldn't compare your mini battery with your friend's nano battery. There have been lots of improvements to iPod batteries since you got your mini.
Why not have a read through this, and see if your battery is performing as it should. Don't take too much notice of the battery meter. It's well known for being inaccurate.

    Hi Chrissy197,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod isn't being recognized properly by your computer and drivers are needed, I would recommend going through this article:

Ack! We don't need that much.
What you posted looks like the iTunes Library.xml file  I will let you read about how iTunes works but not only is the .xml not your main library it is just the listing of tracks in your library and where the music files should be located.  Your music is actually in media files (by the way, it is pointless to zip those as they are already compressed).  Anyway, read these and you will see that your true library file (iTunes Library.itl) is only a small, but still important, part of a complete library.
What are the iTunes library files? - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
More on iTunes library files and what they do - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes#Media_management

Where are my iTunes files located? - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1391
As you can see, a library has several components, so "getting it back" depends upon what is missing, what it was you actually backed up in the end, if any of this music was purchased from the iTunes Store, etc.

  • HT1510 I can't get my new shuffle to take a charge

I can't get my new shuffle to take a charge

If the shuffle's light does not come ON at all when you connect it to USB, make sure the USB cable's plug is completely inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document

  • New shuffle will not fully charge. green light never comes on

can leave my shuffle docked all day, never fully charges till the green light comes on. only amber light. its not my computer or usb cable or my settings as my sons nano charges just fine thru the usb. this shuffle is 5 days old.

  • Ive just got a new computer and trying to put songs on my new shuffle, but i keeps asking me to authorize the computer, i have no idea how to do this

    Hi can someone please help,
i ve got a new computer (windows7)  and a new shuffle, and its asking to aurthrized the computer before i down load anything for i tunes that ihave already bought. but there is no explaination on how to do this
    any ideas

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • Disappointing Nokia Drive+ battery charging experi...

We have many threads about the phone dropping charge while on the charger so I decided to order a good quality 2.1 amp charger and use it with the OEM cable.
I drove a route that takes about 18-20 minutes with the charger and I gained about 8% battery charge in the process.  This was actually quite good compared to some previous driving chargers.
Then I returned on the same route with Nokia Drive+ turned on.  This is the updated version that was just released today.  By the time my route was over I lost 4% battery charge while on the charger.
To contrast, I can run waze (3D turn by turn nav app) on my iPhone 4 and gain charge at the same time.

I've had a few more mixed results.  However, I'm not sure if is app version related.
Yesterday I updated Nokia Drive+ from a link posted on WPCentral as they reported the update before it hit the store.  That is what I ran my first test on.  Then the app store notified me about an update again.  It reinstalled for a second time.  This time my settings had to also be reset.
Anyway, the next time I tested the battery usage I acutally gained some charge for the first half and then I lost the charge again for a net wash on battery charge.  What was interesting is the half of the trip where I gained charge was rather slow driving.
The next run I did I lost 1% charge but the phone didn't get super hot either.

  • Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! They said it should be pulsating but it's not

Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! I already read some reviews and discussion about this. They said that the lightning bolt should pulsate when charging but it's not!

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • HT4623 Hi!My iPAD lost its charge fast !!I've got an iPAD capacity 57,1GB and it has available 55,1GB ,version 7.0.4 .I'd like to know how long does the battery last when it is 100 % charged.

Hi!I've just installed the iOS 7.0.4 operating system and the battery lost its charge at an incredibly speed.I'd like to know how long does the battery last if everything is right when it has 100% charge. Thanks!

I`m `propping` up this thread to to the top of the forums again as it`s been three months and not a single community member or Apple support personnel have replied, which I find discouraging.
I`ve tried everything - both the iOS device(s) and Apple TV have been upgraded (albeit reluctantly) to the latest versions, since iOS 7 looks like crap compared to iOS 6. Both use the same WiFi network. Bluetooth is set to `off`, as per the online tutorials on the Apple Support page.
I also tried shutting all of them down, including the router, waiting 30 seconds and turning the router, then the Apple TV then the iOS device on sequentially with 30 seconds in between each, again as per this discussion forum, and still nothing.
Why can Apple not make a technology, such as AirPlay, work with greater than 10%?
    Any other ideas?
    Come on, people.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then see if placing the iPod in airplane mode when in standby helps.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Charging a brand new shuffle ?

I bought a brand new shuffle still sealed to back up in case 1 of my other 2 shuffles gets broken or dies. Is it best to not charge it until its need?

    Hello kidthorazine,
Is it best to not charge it until its need?
It is best to charge the iPod Shuffle every once in a while as described in the FAQ below. Even if you don't use the device much you should still complete a full charge cycle at least once a month to maintain maximum battery force. Leaving your iPod idle so long could diminish the iPod's battery life. Basically, you just want to keep its juices flowing.
You may want to check out the rest of the information provided in this FAQ as well regarding iPod batteries.
