New shuffle will play 2 or 3 songs then quit

Brand new shuffle will play 2 or 3 songs then go dead.  battery has a full charge.  nothing seems to work

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • New Shuffle wont play after downloading Songs from Rhapsody

I just bought the 2nd gen. shuffle and after loading songs from rhapsody, it show them on the IPOD list but the ipod wont play. It blinks green-orange-green- orange and then nothing. I tried reseting it. Any ideas?

    "Will Rhapsody work with iPod?
iPods are not compatible with the Rhapsody To Go subscription service. You may, however, use the iPod to play tracks purchased on Rhapsody. Or view the MP3 players compatible with Rhapsody To Go."
That is from their website, even though countless posts on these forums have said their files are not compatible. So who knows. If I couldn't get my music from rhapsody on my iPod, I personally woudn't be too surprised, it's protected music, and it's not meant for iTunes it's meant for Real player. It looks like it depends on if your music was subscription or not. You might also read this.

I hope you figure out how to get it on your iPod though.

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

  • Shuffle will play but not charge. Help please!!!

My shuffle will play songs but when I try t plug into my computer it will not charge. My computer won't even recognize it. It only has a little bit of charge left. Does anyone know what is going on with it? Is it dying?
    Thanks

Well, now I'm starting to worry. I'm coming up on the 13-month mark myself.
You might indeed be correct about your 'mechanicals' evaluation, but there's no way short of disassembly, inspection and testing to determine that. Someone, sometime is just going to have to take that on.
The disassembly part looks dead easy and it should be simple to at least check for continuity from the plug down to the end of the ribbon connector. Maybe I'll buy another 'dead' one off of eBay and look into it (the first 'dead' one I tried turned out to be very much 'Alive On Arrival', no very big surprise, and is now camped in a daughter's eMac).
If you're still doing last-gasp things on your Shuffle, in the meantime, I'd be trying the following in your place:
    a) Plug it into a valid charging port/dock/etc. for an extended period of time, a couple or three hours at least. You might see it mysteriously mount; this will be welcome but won't provide any real answers. If nothing else, this will allow the battery to charge if it's going to at all, albeit with no indications.
    b) Log out to a Restart, then open a new/go to a different User Account with Admin privileges.
    c) With iTunes off and iPS not plugged in, locate and open your lastest iPod Updater. I use 2005-11-17.
    d) When it says to plug in the iPod, turn the Shuffle ON and then plug it in. Now wait for it to mount on the Desktop and to be identified in the Updater. Be patient, give it some time; I'd probably let it soak for 10-15 minutes or so.
    e) If no mounting, then — with it still plugged in, if at all possible, one place where the Dock shines — manipulate the controls. Triple-click the Play/Pause, then turn the Power to OFF for 5 seconds or so, then back on. (Note: Apple instructions only call for a Reset, i.e., PWR OFF for 5 secs., but some anecdotals seem to indicate the Playlist Reset also seems to help).
    f) If you have to unplug to manipulate, then do that and plug it back in
    g) This might kickstart it into mounting. If so, fine. If not, unplug and turn OFF the iPS, close the Updater, then repeat from (c) above.
    h) I'd give it three times through the sequence, which seems like a fair enough shot at working.

  • My ipod shuffle only plays the first songs on the list.

My ipod shuffle only plays the first songs on the list even though it has several more podcasts in it. it only plays a series of podcasts instead of all of them. My older shuffle never had this problem. How can I solve this?

Your older shuffle, if 1st or 2nd gen, did not have the ability to play from multiple playlist.  It was essentially just ONE playlist that you loaded manually using iTunes.  A very simple device.  With the new shuffle, it works more like the "bigger" iPods and you can load more than one playlist (so it is more complex), but if you select a specific playlist (using VoiceOver), it works like the old shuffle.
My ipod shuffle only plays the first songs on the list even though it has several more podcasts in it.
That is probably because you are playing songs from the All Songs list, instead of choosing a specific playlist using VoiceOver.  Podcasts do not play from the All Songs list.
it only plays a series of podcasts instead of all of them.
If you use VoiceOver to select a podcast, it only plays episodes from that particular podcast.
Here's what you can do, to make it work like your old shuffle.  Create a new regular playlist in iTunes, and name it something like "iPod Podcasts" or whatever you want.  Treat that new playlist like your old shuffle.  Manually add the podcast episodes you want on the shuffle, in the order you want to hear them, on that playlist.  NOTE:  You can adjust the playlist order after adding the podcast episodes.
Select the shuffle in iTunes.  You see a row of "tabs" (buttons) starting with Summary.  Click Podcasts there.  This is the Podcasts tab, where you set up how iTunes syncs podcasts.  Check the box for Sync Podcasts.  Below that, since you have a playlist with the podcasts you want on the shuffle, you only need to go to the list under Include Episodes from Playlists and checkmark that iPod Podcasts playlist.
When you click Apply, the episodes on that playlist sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update the podcasts on the shuffle, update that iPod Podcasts playlist (add and remove episodes) in iTunes.  Then, the next time you connect the shuffle, iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.  If the shuffle is already connected, click the Sync button to update.
When using the shuffle, set the shuffle's power switch to the play-in-order (middle) position.  Podcasts are skipped on playlists, if the power switch is set to shuffle.  Use VoiceOver to switch to that iPod Podcasts playlist.  The podcast episodes should play in playlist order.
NOTE:  You can load songs in the same way.  Create an "iPod Songs" playlist in iTunes, with the songs you want on the shuffle.  Go to the shuffle's Music tab, and select that playlist.  And audiobooks on the Books tab.  You can load as many playlists as you want.  The big advantage of the new shuffle is that you can have different types of content and keep them organized on separate playlists.
Here's information about VoiceOver, in case it is not already set up.

Are you using Bluetooth or USB cable to connect to the printer?  Did you install from the disc, or from the online program?  When it sits there and doesn't print, does it eventually give error messages, lights flashing, etc.?

  • TS3274 My iPad plays a song and then stops; I press manually for next song, but it either plays same song, a different song that I pressed, or will play the next song, but keeps stopping after every song I play.  Help?

When I go to play songs the iTunes will play a song then stops (repeat all or one song is not on and also shuffle is not on); I manually click for next song an it wll ( play the next song and stops, it will play same song and then stops, or it will play a song randomly and then stops) .  Help!

Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Nano Plays a few songs then reboots to main music screen

This issue not only pertains to the 3rd generation nano but the 4th generations as well.
I sync my nano 3rd generation to my PC which has all of my MP3 files on it. I have the nano set up so I manually manage music on it. I created playlist in latest version of iTunes 9. Loaded my new playlist and files to my nano. Ejected nano through iTunes. I go to listen to songs with nano now either through headset or in a docking station hooked up to a stereo receiver. Songs start to play then anywhere after either 3, 5, 7, or 10 songs max the iPod nano will finish the latest song playing and you then see apple logo on screen and nano returns to the main music menu. Music has stopped and you have to go back in to select music again for it to start playing. Then it just repeats this cycle. The nano never freezes or anything it just stops playing music, making you start the music playing process all over again.
I have done the following: Checked for latest iPod updates. I currently have the latest already. I have installed the latest iTunes application. I have restored the nano numerous times. I even reformatted it in vista to a FAT 32 file system then restored it again with iTunes. I have done all of the 5r's apple lists on the support site. I have even shut off the equalizer and shuffle on the iPod with no luck. I know of 2 other people experiencing the same situation on 3 nano 4th generation models. They said they have just grown use to having to live with this and can't figure it out either. I have contacted apple support about the issue and I was told to visit a service center for diagnostics or send it in to apple for repair, that this sounds like a hardware issue.
Now I own an iPod classic 60 GB and an original iPod 20 GB. Never has an issue at all with playing music. Music always play fine in iTunes too. Others that are experiencing this issue said they too own iPod classics and have no issue with them as well. This is only on their Nano's 3rd and 4th Generation models. I don't know if it affects any of the other nano generations as of yet.

This is a follow up to my original post about this issue. After pulling my hair out for about a week I finally fixed the issue. I don't know if apple can write either a new Nano update or not to fix this. This is not a hardware issue like a bad drive or anything. This has something to do with the nano program itself I feel.
Ok let me explain a little about my music files first. I DJ in my spare time and all of my music is digital. I either purchase the cd's, download from iTunes, or from Amazon. I encode my music in MP3 format at 256 kbs stereo using iTunes as my only music management application. I have used iTunes for 5 years now. I am very picky on my music and make sure they are clean legal files. Nothing from free file share sites.
What I did is I took all those files inside the playlist on my nano with the issues. I converted them all from MP3 format to Apple's AAC format with iTunes. Deleted all of the MP3 files from my Nano and replaced them with the same songs that are now converted in the AAC format. Ejected the Nano and went right to the stereo receiver and tried it out now. WOW Nano plays everything non stop without rebooting to the main music screen. It works now just like it is suppose to. I had it playing for over 3 hours straight with shuffle on and EQ set. Funny how this does not affect the classic models with mechanical drives and you never have an issue in iTunes when you play the playlist in MP3 Format. Only the Nano's. My main DJ software application has never had an issue playing my MP3 file either.
Most might not have this issue, because when they first get iTunes and a new IPod they usually install everything with Apple's default installation settings. So most systems are set to import as AAC files. But being a DJ and have the high quality MP3's, makes a noticeable difference in sound to me and others. I hope apple can figure this out because it sure would be nice to put MP3's on all of my iPod hardware. So I have to now set up a totally different library for this Nano with nothing but AAC files. I shouldn't have to do this if I have had iTunes encode all of my music in standards that iTunes claims it supports. Hey apple I'll take a free iPod classic for all my frustration on this issue;-)
I like the iPod products and software for managing music, that is why I still use them. But when you have an issue like this, it drives people like me nuts to get it fixed. So many times people just want to turn a piece of hardware in claiming it is defective, when most of the time, it comes right down to a software issue.
DJ by Night............IT Tech by Day
Hope this helps everyone else, like I said I know of 3 other Nano's doing this same thing.
    Good Luck all,
    Jim B from Arizona

  • I am trying to download my husband's itunes from his ipod to his new shuffle WITHOUT loading all his songs (which I don't care for) into my computer.  Can anyone walk me though this?

I am trying to sync songs from my husband's new shuffle from his old ipod.  I do not want these songs to go in MY computer--I already have my own playlist.  I don't know how to keep his songs separate from mine, using my computer.

If it shows up in iTunes:
What happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
If it was previously been synced to a another computer/iTunes library the you can:
    - Only sync using the manual method and then ony sync music and videos to the iPod.
    - To sync all media yo need to:

  • New PC will I lose my songs?

I had all my music on my old computer, but that computer broke and I cant get my music back. So if I plug in my Ipod NANO into my NEW computer, will I lose all my songs? And is there a way to save them?

    Nano 4 GB   Windows XP

    Hi adri92683!
First, install the latest iTunes before you connect your iPod to your computer, if you haven’t done that already (to download iTunes, go here).
Then, when it comes time to connect your iPod to your computer, let's start out with preventing iTunes from automatically syncing with your iPod, which would delete all of the contents off of it. Although this is unlikely, let's go ahead and do it to be safe:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Shift and Ctrl keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds after your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List, and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Click the "Apply" button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Also, when you connect your iPod to your computer, you will get a message that says: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. Would you like to replace its contents with the existing library?" (or at least along those lines.)
Please make sure to click on "Cancel" when you receive this message, and NOT "Erase and Sync", or else your iPod's songs will be replaced with the current contents of your iTunes library, deleting anything that isn’t currently backed up.
After you've prevented your iPod's songs from being lost when doing that, we can transfer the iPod's songs to your computer.
There are a couple of methods in doing this.
First, you can use this article to transfer your iPod's contents to a new computer, as a folder in iTunes:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Or, if you would rather use a more straightforward method, you can use a third-party program.
If you're on a PC, try using YamiPod.

  • Upgraded to IOS5, now music doesnt work right, displayed song not playing, plays 3,4 songs then stops although is appears to be playing. Help

upgraded to IOS5, now music not working right. displayed song not playing, plays 4,5 songs and stops although it appears that it is playing. Cycled pwr, didn't work. tried resyncing, same thing.Help?

I have an iPhone 4 and ever since I upgraded to iOS5 i've got the same problem. Apple need to release a patch as there's no way of fixing this unless we downgrade our phones back to iOS4 which would just suck!
I often shut the music app down and start again but even then the artwork doesn't match the song playing and will only play a few songs. It's frustrating when you're driving or going for a run, having to pull over or stop and sort it out.
We'll have to wait for Apple to bring out a patch unfortunately.

  • Itunes will play an unchecked song when it shouldn't, can I change that?

So I've noticed with the newest Itunes, when I'm playing the current song, and I activley uncheck the next upcommig song, Itunes will still play the next song like it's still checked. I've been playing around with it, and it seems that when I uncheck the next song when the current song has less than a minute left playing, the unchecked song will play next (which it never did with previous Itunes versions). If I uncheck the next song when the current song has more than a minute left of play time, then it does skip the unchecked song like it should.
How can I make the next song skip if I uncheck it less than a minute before the current song ends?
This is happening on my Windows 7 desktop in Itunes version 11.0.1.12 in the main library, if that helps at all.

The simplest way to remove the song is to remove it from the Up Next list.
Click on the Up Next icon and when you hover the cursor over the song, you will see an X appear to the left of the song. Click on the X to remove it.

  • Shuffling When Playing in Artist, Song, Genre or Album Mode

Is there any way to shuffle songs when playing from the Artist, Song, Genre or Album modes? Or does shuffle only apply to playlists?
    Thanks for the help?

Make sure your shuffle setting is set to songs. Then select any artist/album/genre, hit play and the songs within that category are shuffled.
For instance, set shuffle to songs, select artist, select (say) The Beatles, select all, press play and all The Beatles songs are shuffled.

  • Shuffle only plays half a song

Help-my shuffle only plays if I hit rewind. Halfway through the song it quits and only restarts if I start over several minutes later. It is unresponsive until that time.

What I would try first is deleting that song (assuming what you're talking about is happening with a specific song), then refilling the shuffle so as to overwrite the memory that was used by the song (prevent the song in question from being reloaded). If this works, you should be able to reload the song in question later and have it work. (The assumption behind this is the file on the shuffle has somehow gotten corrupted.)
If that doesn't work, I'd restore the shuffle.
    Good luck
