New, simpler version of Dreamweaver!

For a decade Dreamweaver allowed me to successfully build and maintain a simple but effective website. It was intuitive and simple to use.
That all stopped with the new version.
I have tried but cannot even begin to understand CSS. It has made my life a misery. Every time I alter a font I am asked to input new descriptions I do not understand and strange, and unpredictable things happen to existing text in the same or other paragraphs.
My website is important to me as a composer. It has brought in the majority of my commissions on which I depend for my livelihood. However, because of my issues with the new version my website maintenance has ground to a halt.
Perhaps the old version of Dreamweaver was less capable. But it was more intuitive.
I am so busy at what I do best - composing music. I have not got weeks or months to spare to learn new techniques. I have tried so hard to understand CSS and make it work for me but I have made no progress at all.
The only solution I can see is to release a simpler WYSIWYG version resembling the old Dreamweaver. Or modify Dreamweaver in such a way that it is possible for users to turn off CSS.
Please do something! The new version of Dreamweaver is destroying my career.
Sincerely, Chris

Or hire a professional web person who can help you to make your page content editable by you without your having to learn a second profession that you should not have to spend time learning!
Learning a new application package is fun and a young person should not give up easily and 2throw in a white towel" without having a good go at it.
Also, Chris can continue using the old package if he doesn't want to learn Dreamweaver CS6.  He says he has used version 4 to version 8 and I don't see why he can't continue using it especially when he was happy with the way websites were created in those packages.  He clearly isn't interested to learn new technology.
Nancy has already pointed out that WP is not easy for somebody who is just starting with setting up from scratch.  You will find that Chris won't make any progress if he embarks on using WP.
However, we can only wish him good luck and he can always post questions and get assistance on Wordpress.org forums (or even wordpress.com if he goes for free hosting package).

  • Getting used to the new version of Dreamweaver

    1) I just downloaded a new version of Dreamweaver and can't find neither the fonts nor the font colors. 2) How to I create drop down menus?

    1. The html attributes for these are gone since they've been deprecated within html standards. Highlight the text you want to affect, then click the CSS button in the Properties Inspector. You can control most of the usual text properties there, additional properties can be changed in the CSS Designer.
This is correct, but beware of using the Property inspector to style your text. Instead, you should always create a CSS rule to style the text, and apply that rule (if necessary) to the container of the text.
WHAT YOU GET IF YOU USE THE PROPERTY INSPECTOR (assuming text in a paragraph tag)
    <p><span class="style232">some styled text</span></p>
WHAT YOU MIGHT GET IF YOU DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES TO THE SAME BIT OF TEXT
    <p><span class="style232"><span class="style 235">some styled text</span></span></p>
WHAT YOU GET IF YOU CREATE THE RULE FIRST (assuming text in a paragraph tag)
    <p class="emphasis">some styled text</p>
The downside of using the PI to do this is that each time you do it, a NEW class is created, so over time, your page fills up with these "ad hoc" and indecipherable class rules (2 days from now will you remember the difference between .style232 and .style233?).
The benefit of using the 2nd approach is that the downside mentioned above DOESN'T happen, you can name your classes with something that describes their function, you can apply the rule more intelligently that merely wrapping the styled content in a span tag (which may be totally redundant) and class rules can be reused many times on the same page.
As you can see, using the Property inspector to style your text is a bad idea, and frankly, that function has not been thought out very well in Dreamweaver.
    Just saying....

  • My trial version of dreamweaver won't open... Please help as the people from customer service refuse to! :(

I downloaded a trial version of dreamweaver. It worked for a
few days, then stopped working. When I click on the desktop icon it
loads and asks me if I want to continue with my trial (29 days
left) or enter serial number. When I click continue with trial a
"Dreamweaver 8" banner comes up (indicating it is loading) then it
closes. I phoned technical support and wasn't able to get through
several times. When I finally did (after 45 minutes) the conclusion
they gave me was that THEY COULD NOT HELP ME FOR "FREE" because it
was a trial version. I really want to learn this program and would
really appreciate any help. I also checked out the dreamweaver
download trouble-shooting page and tried a few things which did not
seem to help. My computer is fairly new and has more than enough
    memory (160G or so?).
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!

I'll try. What are your machine specs. You say 160G of
    memory? I am
assuming you mean a 160 gb hard drive. That is not memory.
    How much RAM do
you have? What operating system are you running?
Did you download the trial from the Adobe site? Do you have
    antivirus or
firewall software that might be blocking the program?

  • How can i create a slideshow with the newest version of dreamweaver?

I am trying to figure out how to create a slideshow but i cannot find any explanations for the new version of Dreamweaver. Can anyone help?

DW doesn't make slideshows.  You'll need to use a jQuery plugin or a 3rd party commercial Extension.
    Do a web search for:
    jQuery Cycle2
    jQuery WOW Slider
    jQuery Fancybox2
    Primer for using jQuery Plugins

  • Will using two versions of dreamweaver trash my code??

Our company is currently building a new website and we keep running into problems.  Currently we have one main web desginer and another person who helps input text and pictures.  Because we have two people working on this project the file bounces between two computers at the office and then is taken home and used on a third computer.  In the midst of the multi-use of computers there are two versions of Macromedia, studio 8 and MX.  We had our code completely trashed and now all versions on each computer are not working.  We think that it was due to a code that was pulled off of a blog for a "print this page" option that was input into the template, but now just realized that using two versions of dreamweaver also may have caused the problem.  If anyone has suggestions as to what may have caused this please respond!
    Thank you!

Thank you David! We will stop worrying about that and try to back track the tainted code

  • Problems with Italian version of Dreamweaver [subject edited by moderator]

The italian version of this software doesn't match with the configurations in the tutorials and it's impossible to follow the procedure to learn how to use it!! I've spent more than two hours just to put the "split working area" in vertical with no results. No way to open the same tools. And then, where are the assets files to download??? I think it could be a wonderful idea give us something easier to learn, simply having giving us the right correspondence between the software (open for the first time after the download) and the video tutorials…please, in this condition I cannot work and so how can I do?
    Ciao
    Paolo

    Dear Murray,
unfortunately I can't go on with this program…it's impossible without the CSS file showed on the tutorial…I've also tried to find something on the web and I've tried to install Adobe Widget Browser but it doesn't work!
So I've lost a lot of hours and I'm very frustrated and disappointed…and then the Dreamweaver CC version I've downloaded from Creative Cloud is different from the one in the tutorials, so I can follow all the indications without stop and start searching somewhere the things…
In this condition it's impossible to learn how to use this software…it's an incredible waste of time…and paying for that!!

  • I find that the older version of Dreamweaver (CS3) works best for me.

I have used all new updated versions of Adobe Dreamweaver. Usually an update would make things easier for me but in this case it is the complete opposite. Don't get me wrong, Dreamweaver is still my primary choice for developing a website. I just find that for instance, Dreamweaver CS3 is more user friendly than CS5 & CS6 for example. Currently I'm working on a new website called [link removed]. It is where [link removed] , web store owners and unemployed individuals can try to find success to their needs. It is basically a one-stop spot to complete multiple tasks online and start generating a profit. It is like combining Etsy, Elance and SimplyHired into one. I created it all using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 because I found it easier. That's just my opinion guys. What do you think?

IE has been HTML5 compliant since IE9. There are still old goofy hold overs (like the automatic border on linked images) that you have to deal with, but its ability to render HTML5 elements is solid. CSS3 is a bit of a different story, IE9 was pretty bad, 10 was much better and 11 is pretty much a "modern browser" for its ability to render everything correctly, finally (thankfully and mercifully).
All of the other major browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Android, Mobile Safari and Opera,) have been largely HTML5 compliant for years with just a few oddities left in obscure CSS3 attributes.
With the HTML5 shiv/modernizers available for IE7 and 8 added to the code to help them with the "new" semantic tags like <header>, <aside>, <article>, etc, I agree with Nancy, there's no reason to not use HTML5 going forward.

  • Need to download version of Dreamweaver for Windows 8.1, don't want CC version

I lost my old Dreamweaver MX version when my Windows XP PC died.  I have Windows 8.1 now and only need a simple version of DW to download for occasional use.  I don't want to use CC with its monthly service charge.  How can I download even an old version of DW that is compatible?  I found http://macromedia-dreamweaver.xtremedownload.com/ for DW 8 but don't know if it's trustworthy.  Please help!

Adobe only sells current versions of their products.  The only other version available thru Adobe is Dreamweaver CS6 which you can purchase thru the following page: Creative Suite 6
If you want an older version then you will have to take chances with potentially questionable third party vendors such as you already found.  It is doubtful anyone here will recommend any third party sellers.

  • Using trial version of Dreamweaver CS6, Blank page, HTML onlly 2 layouts

My students are starting out using a trial version of Dreamweaver CS6, but only get 2 different layout options when selecting a Blank Page, HTML. Can they add additional layout options somehow? This is making it hard for them to complete the assignment. Is there some way to get all of the layouts to show up?
    Thanks, Eliot

The new DW CC only comes with two layouts - HTML5: two columns and HTML5 Three columns.  Apparently there is no need for more because these two layouts are all you need.  I don't use the CC version so I don't know anything else apart from this.
With two column layout, you can move the sidebar easily by floating it either left or to the right; So this makes it three layouts!!!!!.  It should also have something called Fluid Grid Layout that is used to create "responsive" websites for mobile devices.
Did you have any other layouts in mind?

  • Demo version of Dreamweaver CS6

I teach in a lab that has Dreamweaver CS6 but my students are only being offered a trial download of the Creative Cloud version of Dreamweaver, which is different enough to be troublesome at this point in the semester.  Plus, our textbooks are for CS6. How can my students access a trial version of Dreamweaver CS6?

CS6 Direct Downloads -- Note the VERY IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS or it won't work.
    http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html
Keep in mind that CS6 has about 4 different versions.   The release version was 12.0 and the one for which most text books were written.  Subsequent updates included 12.01 & 12.02 (bug fixes and a few other changes).  The Cloud version received significant upgrades in 12.1 and 12.2 (the last update) which removed some features and added new ones.  Suffice it to say that the version of CS6 that your students download may be very different from your text books.  If you want consistency, your students would need to purchase CS6 12.0.

  • How to use lower version of dreamweaver in creative cloud

I have have a MAC OS 10.6. I downloaded dreamweaver in adobe creative cloud. It seems my mac does not support the new version of dreamweaver. I found a lower version that supports my mac os 10.6. Unfortunately when I open my dreamweaver it asks for a serial number and an option for a free trial for 30. So far, I am using the free trial. How can I use it using what I paid for in adobe creative cloud?

    Hello,
Which version have you installed no? , Does it give you the option to sign in From Help Menu (Help > Sign In) ?
If yes then click on Help > sign in and sign in with your Adobe Id and Password.
If not the go to the link below and install Dreamweaver CS6.
    Download CS6 products
During the installation process you will get the  option for serial number, trial or subscription. Select the option for subscription and sign in with Adobe ID and Password.
I would also advise you to upgrade Operating system so that you can get the benefits of the latest Dreamweaver versions.
    Regards
    Vivek

  • Previous version of Dreamweaver?

I am using Dreamweaver CC but need to use CS6 version for a class, but I do not see option to download a previous version using the Desktop App. Thanks for any help...

Make sure you are having paid version of Dreamweaver CC, Then launch Creative Cloud desktop App and click on Apps tab
Then under find new apps tab click on Filters and Versions Then choose Previous version.
Click install for Dreamweaver, you will get two options CC and CS6. Click on CS6.

  • Which Version of Dreamweaver?

I was just granted a license to Dreamweaver through my
company. It's Dreamweaver MX version 6.0. I'd like to take an
online class for using the tool, but the class requires the 2004
version of Dreamweaver MX and I can't tell if my version matches.
I've looked in the "Help > About Dreamweaver" menu, but
all it tells me is the version, not the year.
If I'm using Dreamweaver MX version 6.0, is that 2004 or
    newer?
    Thanks in advance.

It's older. By alot. The sequence was -
    DMX6.0 - DMX6.1 - DMX2004 - DMX2004 7.0.1 - DW8 - DW8 8.0.1 -
    DW8 8.0.2
If your company will allow you to upgrade, that would be
    best.
