New software release 3.1(?) turns phone into a brick

I just updated my perfectly fine iPhone 3Gs to what I think said iPhone 3.1 (maybe it said 3.0.1) software, it went through the extraction of files, then it went to install the software and then an "Unknown Error (14)" occurs. I have the newest version of iTunes and I've restarted my computer and the phone just sits there requesting that I plug it into iTunes. It says the phone needs to be restored in order for it to be recognized, but as mentioned above, it refuses to restore because of this ungodly error.
I am in the crapper with an employer unless I get this thing working TONIGHT!! please help, it's my only link to some important people right now.

I ended up plugging it into a Vista laptop and hitting restore and it restored the software, but still needed to be backed up. I connected it back into my desktop (XP) and it would not sync with my last back-up. I disconnected it and plugged it in and it started syncing, then it stopped, said it was unable to sync with such and such (my last) back-up. It restored the apps but no contacts. Then about 3 minutes passed and I hear the "chirp" from the iPhone as if I just connected it, but as far as iTunes was concerned it was done syncing 3 minutes ago. It restored it to a basic 3.0.1 state. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it restored all my apps and music, but no contacts. After wasting countless hours I realized that the only saving grace was this "MobileMe," funny that these types of problems occur but, luckily, Apple has a service you can pay for when their updates don't work. I wanted to throw this black dead device out my window. Thanks Apple!

    It doesn't say anything. It runs through the sync process like normal and tells me all of the songs that it's synking. But then when it says I can disconnect it, nothing actually synked.

    Media is only where you put it.
    Did you copy or move the media from the old computer to the new computer?

    It's highly unlikely that the 2700c will get any further updates. That model is now considered to be old and obsolete.
    All you can do is wait and hope or buy a newer model that has the newer operating system on it.

    You should try putting it in DFU Mode (hold both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and then let go of the Sleep/Wake button after 5-7 seconds) which it should already be in, or keep holding the Home and Sleep/Wake button until you seen a flicker and black screen. The phone will reset and reboot.

    I had my phone plugged in to my iTunes yesterday and downloaded the new software. I then went to install the new software and it crashed half way through with an error message. Then it went off completely and wiped everything.     Something in your backup may be corrupt. Try wiping it and setting it up as a new device, then sync your apps, data and media back to it from iTunes. DO NOT resotre from your backup. If the problem is contained in the backup, it will bring it right back again if you restore.

    My phone went through the Kitkat update about a week ago, and since I've ran out of battery with in 8 hours of taking it off a full charge, and now today It died, and I plugged it in, well it won't charge, and i can't get it to turn on at all.     Don't do the update. My phone did the update and the droid laid on his back with an X and now all I get is the red logo. cant do a factory reboot or get into the ap menu just red logo. IT BRICKED MY PHONE I have had it since they came out and have been all over the world with it, and never had a problem until KITKAT BRICKED IT.
    Verizon only response is to send me a refurbished phone that I will have to spend weeks to get it set back up to the way that I had it.
    I am not happy with the response for their screw up. I don't want a refurbished phone I want my good phone to work and they don't know how to fix it just replace that is the support. I have seen the post on the net and I am not the only person that this has happened to in the android community.
    If you want a good paper weight than do the update and take the chance.

  • Turning Phone into Walkie Talkie with no Service?

    I was at a job site recently where the elevator guys were using their Nextels but there was no service.
    They did mention you can turn your phone into a walkie talkie and talk in places without service. They didn't have time to show me how to do it. Anyone here know how its done? Or what it is called so I can look it up.

    The 8350i Nextel BB doesnt have the DirectTalk option, only the the DirectConnect. The difference is that DirectTalk on Motorola phones allows you to use the phone off-network to connect direct phone-phone. The DirectConnect function uses the network. Rumor had it that the DirectTalk function used frequencies in the GMRS and/or "Family" channels, but I never confirmed that with my old IC902 & IC502. The DirectTalk worked well with those phones for keeping track of the kids in areas where there was spotty service.
    I havent tried to see if it will work with a 'deactivated' phone, first chance i get, i'll fire up the IC902 that I replaced with the BB to see if it still works in DirectTalk. If so, and if this function is important to you, it may be worth picking up one of the older motorolas to use in this situation, if you can find one on the cheap-cheap. Something else to conside, too, if it turns out that the frequencies used are Family Radio frequencies, or GMRS simplex, you might be able to use one of the $10 wal-mart FR walkies. I know the set up is pretty much the same, only 6 or 9 (dont really remember) channels to choose from, but all the phones have to be set to the same channel, same privacy tone, etc etc....

  • TS3694 Error 3194 came up on my iPhone5 after trying to install the new software. It said my phone was in recovery mode and needed to be restored but the restoration wouldn't work. Updated my PC and tried again.

    What is Apple doing? A once great phone has turned into garbage thanks to 2.0.

    That must be something specific to your Edge phone. When I upgraded my Edge phone I did not have any problems whatsoever. All of the native applications seemed to be faster not slower. The downloaded applications worked great. I did not have any problems with the landscape vs portrait on web or any of the applications that use it.
    It sounds like you have a hardware problem and not a software problem. I would suggest that you call Applecare and tell them about it or if you are close to an Apple store, take it to the genius bar. You are not experiencing the normal performance of a 2.0 upgrade on the Edge iPhone.

    Got a new 3110c phone that had a "charger not supported"-error. Decided to upgrade the firmware to the latst version as I read here somewhere that could fix the problem (albeit the problem was on another phone model, I thought an update would help). In the middle of the upgrade, however, the software said the upgrade couldn't be completed. Unplugged the phone, turned it off and turned it on. Now it won't even turn on. When I press the combination (green send + 3 + *) nothing happens. When I turn on the phone, nothing is shown on the screen. The phone turns on and off intermittently - without any screen feedback. I know it turns on/off because when it's connected to the USB i get the "new hardware"-sound and the "unplugged hardware" sound intermittently as well... the phone is brand new, and was sent to me in Mexico by someone in Sweden. This model doesn't exist here in Mexico... what can I do to fix it?

    even if it is not being sold there in mexico, nokia care centre should try to help you...
    this may be worth the try, jsut remove the battery for quite sometime, say 30 min, then do some 3-keys trick...

    Omega has this correct. But given how you hold the phone or how different cases affect the actual signal strength, IT WOULD BE somewhat helpful IF Apple made the signal strength meter bars display more linear. Right now, your signal strength has to drop to about 35% before you drop from 5 bars to 4 bars.
    On a phone that did not have such an unusually dramatic signal loss (-20db to -24dB) depending on how the user holds the phone, this SS algorythm would not be as problematic. Just by covering the lower left side of the phone you lose about 35% of your signal strength. As Chris Rock used to say: "THAT ain't RIGHT!"

  • System update 4.08 turned my phone into a brick

    I believe it was OTA system update 4.08 for my incredible and now my phone halts at the fastboot screen. It wont boot to the OS and is non-responsive with both volume buttons and the power button.  Is anyone experiencing similar issues? I'm going to the verizon store tomorrow to see what they can do.

    I can't get this one to install. I get the message that it will reboot and install, but it never does. I do have a concern as this is rooted, but still running the pure software, no cyanogen or anything like that. I did also pull off a few of the VZ crapware that came pre-installed so not sure if that made a difference.
    I have tried chaning the date and time to trigger it but same thing, downloads, states it will reboot to install and nothing. I have an S3 on order so not too worried about this. Prob will do a factory restore before putting it up for sale.
