New sound card (E-MU 1212M) won't record higher than 48kHz

I'm running Windows XP Pro/SP2 with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor (motherboard is Elitegroup 848P-A). I have 1GB of RAM installed.
I do a lot of vinyl transfer work. I decided to upgrade sound cards to the E-MU 1212M to improve the overall quality of my audio.
The card install went well. I'm receiving an audio signal just fine. I can playback at 44.1, 48, 96, 192.
The only hitch is when I try to record. I can record at 44.1 & 48 but if I try to record at 96 or 192 I get the following message:"Another application has caused a sample rate change that makes the current session invalid. You may accept this change by loading session at the new sample rate indicated below...." The sample rate that it shows me is always 44.1 So when receiving this message it always wants to push me back to 44.1 This message pops up immediately after I hit the red "record" button.
There are no other audio applications similar to Audition installed on my set up. I have turned off the system sounds, the 1212M card is recognized as the default audio device. The on-board sound card has been disabled along with its drivers. Gone also are the drivers from my previous sound card.
The settings between the 1212M and Audition are following along with each other. If I set the 1212M for 44.1, 48, 96, or 192 and then open up Audition and check the hardware settings, its at whatever I had set the 1212M to.
Ive also gone through what items are being loaded during start-up of my computer. Ive tried disconnecting from the internet and shutting down all programs that might be active, ensuring that no other programs are running other than Au 3 and the 1212M PatchMix panel.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.

"Before you did that, did you start a new session at 96k, and it still won't record into it? "
If you're asking if I first start a new session in PatchMix, yes, that's correct. I call up the 96k session in PatchMix first. Then I go and open up Audition to try to record.
If you're asking me if I start a new session in Audition 3 first, then I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. Remember, I'm new to Au 3. When working in Audition 1.5, I could hit the "record" button and a window would pop up, prompting me to enter a sample rate and bit depth for the audio I'm about to record. I enter what I want to do and press "OK", then Audition starts to record. I don't know if that window is what you're referring to as a "session".
If that is a what you mean by "session" then I would need to do some experimenting by setting PatchMix to 44.1, then open up Audition, hit "record", specify 96/24 in the window that pops up and see what happens. I would hope that I'd get a message from PatchMix that I need to go to set PatchMix for a 96k "session". That's actually a possibility I hadn't previously considered trying. I'm at work now but will look into this possibility after I'm back home & report back.
-DLedin
EDIT: Since my last reading of your message you added a question:"Also, when you set the session up, did you take the check out of the 'use default' box?"
Please specify which application you're referring to when you say "session". PatchMix uses the term quite a lot. If there's a "use default" box somewhere that I need to take a look at then I need to know if it's in Audition 3 or PatchMix and just where to find it. Also, should that "use default" box be checked or unchecked? I appreciate your patience.

  • 6712 New Sound Card Freezes PC

I have a KT4AV-L MS-6712 that has worked great for several years. I'm running XP SP3 with 1.5GB memory and an XP2500. All software is updated/current.
One channel of the on-board sound device has become very weak and distorted so I installed a new C-Media 8738 sound card. After installing the driver for the sound card, playing audio from WinMP, RealPlayer, YouTube, whatever - gives me a couple of seconds of audio then freezes the computer. Mouse and all are locked up.
I made sure to disable the old sound device in BIOS after removing the AC97 driver and setting the new sound card as the default device.
The driver for the new sound card is current. Nothing unusual appears in the Event Log at the time of the freeze.
What am I missing? Your ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

  • INstalling new sound card on HP Pavilion a1029_uk

    Hi
Due to the issues raised in my other thread
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-PC-Sound-and-Audio/Suddenly-no-sound/td-p/607655
I've gone and bought separate sound card (not from HP admittedly) but can't get it to install as the install software keeps crashing.
Could it be that I've not totally got rid of the on board motherboard sound chips (that no longer work) are somehow interfering in the process.
I've tried to do the install both with the and without disabling the on board audio in the BIOS settings (turning this off does seem to remove everything including Sound Manager, volume control etc) but it makes no difference.
Do I need to leave this one but remove sound manager and the device drivers manually and if so, how do I do this as Sound Manager isn't included in the "Add / Remove Software" list.
So the question is: Is it possible to totally remove all systems access to the on board sound set, so I can use a PCI sound card instead.
    Technical stuff.

Just to let everyone know I've solved this one.
It seems part of the new sound cards that hooks around the back of the PC to hold it in place is slightly too short, and/or the wrong shape, so when you put on the plate on my HP Pavillion that holds all the PCI cards in place, this pulls the soundcard slightly out of it's slot, up at the opposite end with the smaller pins so although the computer can detect there's a PCI card there, it can't tell what it is.
If I leave this plate off, and allow the hook around part to hang free, the card works.

I am running Windows XP on Home PC bought 2003. The sound card is integral with the motherboard. Now the soundcard is not working. I do not use it for gaming. Please let me have your advice. I could pay somebody to fix the new sound card, which I should like to buy from Creative, but also not sure which sound card to buy, or if this is possible, since the existing soundcard cannot be removed. Maybe I could try an external sound card via USB? Many thanks. Halton

    Hi Halton,
For listening to music and internet radio any of our cards should be fine, the budget cards are for instance
    Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit
    Audigy SE
    Audigy 2 Value
Regarding disabling the onboard audio, I can't give you a set of specific instructions, as this can differ per motherboard. Usually you can get into the BIOS by holding the Delete key (when specified) during the boot process. The BIOS screen is usually a blue background with white text. Onboard audio could be listed as "AC97" (which you set to enable or disable). If your PC or motherboard came with a manual, it may have some detail on how to change this.

  • [VIA] KT4AV seemingly dead after installing new sound card!

    Hi all,
I recently fitted a new sound card to my system. following this my system wouldn't start - it wouldn't even get past POST (i'm getting the 4 red LEDs on the D-Bracket for "cpu incorrectly installed or damaged"). I've takenb the card out again, and no change. i've removed and reseated the CPU, and no change. I've even changed the CPU for another that i know is working fine, and (you guessed it) no change. I've also tried resetting/clearing the CMOS (nothing).
The main thing i should stress is that my system was 100% fine before this. never locked, rebooted or crashed.
    My system is:
    KT4AV mobo
Athlon XP 2800+ (and also a Duron 900 for testing, as above)
    2 x Crucial DDR2700 512MB sticks
    Radeon 9800 Pro (Saphire)
    Q-Tec (yes - i know!) 550W PSU
Could the CPU socket have been damaged/burnt out or something?
    Hope someone can help, cheers
    Jon...

the first thing i will suggest is.... try another (better) PSU. borrow one off a friend. you may find that the board powers up again

  • Charger "plugged in, charging" but the battery won't go higher than 0%

    Hello there.
I have a HP dv6-2190us laptop which is I think 3 years old.
Yesterday I saw that it powered off and it didn't have any reaction when I pressed the power button on battery. When I plugged in my AC,  thinking this could be a battery error, I saw the charge light flash 11 times and then stay on .
With the AC plugged in it booted into Windows 7 and I saw that it says Plugged In, Charging... but it won't go higher than 0%.
When I  Unplug the AC it powers off suddenly as it doesn't have any battery remaining.
I checked the battery with the HP utility and it said OK and the battery is 29/300 cycles. So it's too soon for the battery to get damaged.
I've tried all the solutions ( Hard reset using power key, update bios, clear cmos, remove driver and install again, etc. ) but none of them helped me.
Do you guys have any ideas?
P.S.: I have replaced the battery 2 months ago and it's fairly new.

If you are still able to power the notebook with the power adapter and the battery removed, then the battery has problems.
Contact the seller for an RMA.
I hope  that you did replace the battery with one that was guaranteed compatible and with a one year warranty.
I have never had one fail that quickly.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • Any suggestion for a new sound card?

    Hello!
My old PC has left me alone, and I'm going to build a new one from scratch this month. I'll be running Win7, I doubt I'll be going for Win8.
As for the sound card, I'd need some advice on what to buy: I have always had SoundBlaster cards and have loved them all, so I think I'll go for a new SoundBlaster (not even taking into account the built-in sound card on the motherboard...), but I can't discern which one would fit me best. I mostly use MIDI and soundfonts for recording study bases for my choir to rehearse and for composing orchestral music: I usually need complex MIDI files with many voices and instruments to perform well.
My old sound card was an Audigy with (just?) 48 MIDI channels (45 free + 3 drum channels), I'd like to have some recent card with good Win7 drivers, but still with many MIDI channels and soundfont support.
The one thing I'm sure I won't be changing at this moment is my 5.1 analogic speaker system, so I need a card with 5.1/7.1 analogic connectors.
Any advice (or wise info on what not to buy) will be much appreciated, thank you all!!!

Thank you for your advice. Have you tested any soundfont bank manager? Regarding this same soundcard, the Creative helpdesk told me it does not come in bundle... I was suggested to try with this one: http://ccfiles.creative.com/manualdn/Applications/AVP/11113/0xCA3D54C2/SFBM_PCAPP_LB_3_21_02.exe (Creative Soundfont Bank Manager 3.21.02), but they also told me (copied from their email)
This Creative SoundFont Bank Manager 3.21.02 is not bundled to the SoundBlaster Audigy Rx. You can try and test this but we do not officially claim that it will work.
Please note that the Creative SoundFont Bank Manager 3.21.02 is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit, Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit or 32-bit with Service Pack 1, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005 or Windows XP MCE 2004.
For SoundBlaster Audigy Rx, it has synth a and synth b meaning 128/128 voices.
    No mention about Win8 compatibility...

Presently I have the 3 to 4 year old card "X-Fi Titanium Pro". I used headsets not speakers, so as I write this I'm using the new Roccat Kave 5.1 headset. What I would like to do is upgrade to a very high end card where the sound will be Much more effective then the card I stated above. My motherboard is Evga X58 FTW3. PSU: Enermax Sgalaxy evo egx1250ewt. CPU: I7-950. Two Evga 560 ti (SLI Mode) 6 gigs of ram.......Any ideas?? Suggestions??
    Thank You.

[QUOTE=dinopkk;576439]Maybe Windows updated your sound card driver to a Microsoft version while you did a Windows update. The Microsoft version may be giving you problem or it may not I am not sure.
    Hi
Windows does update the driver and cause the problem, but the issue is that the new drivers won't work with my sound card.
I've downloaded the drivers from Creative and installed them (again tonight in fact) but the only drivers that don't give me this problem are the ones that came on the CD that came with the card.
If I update to anything else the distortion starts.
I'm running Windows 10 TP build 10041 and it won't let me decide not to update my hardware drivers so it keeps overwriting the drivers that I install.
I have it working again right now (2011 drivers) and I'm making a system image, but as soon as Windows updates again it will start all over.
I wish that up to date drivers would work, when I first had this problem a year ago, I found a lot of other people having the same problem but no solutions.
My best option may just to buy a different type of sound card.

  • New sound card Creative Live! 5.1 Digital

    Hi,
I disabled the ALC 97 in the BIOS but ddin't uninstall any of the drives. Possibly a bad idea.  I shut down and plugged in the new card and booted.  When prompted to install the card I told it to look for the drivers on the install CD and it found them.
This card should do EAX but in Grand Prix 4 and Half Life 2 there is no option to turn EAX either on or off.  GP4 has the option but it's greyed out, 2D acceleration is available and that works.
I then uninstalled the Realtek sound drivers and the nvmixer thing from add/remove programs, rebooted, then installed the sound card drivers from the CD properly, including all the extra programs.
This hasn't made any difference to the lack of EAX options although in one of the installed programs it does prove that EAX is working but I can't find anything that tells me whether these games are using EAX.
Also,  performance in these games has improved DRAMATICALLY.  I have recently installed some more RAM but I was under the impression that would only improve loadng times etc and there was only a marginal performance after the new RAM when using 3d mark 05.  (Presumably) since installing this new card, I can now max out all the settings in HL2 except for 2xAA and 8xAF and it absolutely flies.
Is all of this supposed to happen?  If not, I was going to unplug the card and manually uninstall every sound driver from both add/remove prgorams and device manager and then reinstall the card.  Sound good?
    Thanks for any advice.
    cheers

    LazyGit,
Make sure you use the latest Creative Drivers from the Creative Website.

    Richard

Preferably you would use a n AGP based graphics card as your radeon 9600 is. The PCI-x slots have lower bandwidth and would be slower.
    Possible Upgrades
    Radeon 9800pro
    Radeon 9800XT
    Radeon X800XT
    Radeon X850XT
    nVidia 6800GS/GT
    nVidia 7800
All of which are in demand and short supply at present due to the new RoHS recycling requirements.

  • Cant install new Sound card driv

I currently have an audigy 2 zs plugged into my computer and every time i try to install the drivers i get a device installer error. It says "Windows Could not load the installer for MEDIA." Any idea how i can fix this problem? My computer obviously knows the card is there because it currently shows a multimedia audio controller under the sound video and game controllers.

Could my problem be my card is just completely toasted and i have to get a new one? Anyone know of a good set of diagnostic tools that i might be able to use to test that out? Or do i just have to swap in a new card?
Edit: Nevermind tried installing an old sound card and still got the same error, any idea how i can fix this problem?Message Edited by BuckRodgers on 03-5-200709:46 PM

Just installed  an asus xonar dx sound card in my slimline s5670t desktop. The problem I am having is that I cannot find the 4 pin power supply I need on the mobo. Can anyone help me out?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

These are the motherboard specifications for your PC.
You probably need to look for a 4 pin molex  or floppy connector coming off the power supply.  If your don't see a spare connector then you will need an adapter to split off from a molex connector or even off a sata power connector.  Look carefully at the power cable going to the hard drive.  This is where you might try a Y splitter power cable.  www.newegg.com probably has want you need.
Maybe this adapter would work.  I can't say if the connector is right for tapping on the sata drive for power or if the cable lengths are long enough.

  • New sound cards do not support Vis

Hey guys I've been hearing alot lately that Creative sound cards do not support Vista so I decided to register and ask a few questions about Creative sound cards and what would be compatible for me. I don't know if this is true but please someone clarify this with me. I just bought a PC but it does not have all the holes for my 5. speakers (only green hole) and I'm currently looking for a card that has the pink, green, grey speaker plug holes etc. If they do work, how much momey should I be spending on them? I need a card for movies and games. Will the X-fi work for me? It looks like it has all the coloured holes for my speakers. Which card do you guys recommend? Thanks.
    PC specs
    Vista Business Edition
    Core 2 duo .8ghz
    2gig ram?

Basically Dragonrice the X-Fi works fine in Vista (I have one here on Vista x64), sadly some of the features such as DTS Decoding, DVD-Audio Decoding are XP Only.
I beli've this maybe something to do with Windows Vista and it's DRM, or that Creative have not yet implimented support, or have decided against implimenting support since PowerDVD and the like do partial software decoding of those audio sources.
X-Fi is ok on Vista, but is a more fully featured card on XP.
If you are considering getting an X-Fi I would lean towards the Auzentech Prelude X-Fi based card, as it is more feature rich than the Creative Labs card (Supports Dolby Digital Li've Encoding), and can also decode DTS and DVD-Audio on Vista (x86 only)

  • New sound cards and w

I just recieved the X-fi Fatality for my B-day and knew about the problems but asked for it anyway. Well like most of you I had the same old problems, SCP is what I hear and i'm very unhappy, well when it works it sounds great. Buy to what I want to ask, I see that Creative has or is coming out with new cards. I was wondering why that is when from what I have seen in these foums you have not found a fix. You should fix what you make before putting out new cards is how I see it.
It's like this, my dad is in the Military and he gets to test new weapons on the Battlefield before they are sent to our soldiers. When he's testing and finds things that would not be up to par for the soldiers he reports this to his bose and it gets passed on down the chain till it's fixed. They just don't send the weapons out and say it will work sometimes and then it won't sometimes and go and put a new one out they fix it first.
So what i'm trying to say is this, my sound qaulity is what a weapon that works is to a soldier. When niether work the way intended that person could get killed( I love my FPS games) just like a soldier in real life could. So please fix the product so I don't die when playing games and can hear what is going on not just hearing the SNP and then dieng.
Fix what you have made and not put out anymore products that we as the consumer have purchased or you will have alot of people knocking at your back door. That good man Solutus who has done everything you have said with out a fix is going to be one of them. I have been reading all his posts and it looks like you are just playing him to be a fool and dragging him along.
    BAD BAD CL.

Welcome, and thank you for a thorough input! Hope I don't miss something you already said!
Quick version: Try setting processor voltage to 1,5 volt.
    Long version:
Posting at wrong FSB can be put down to two things:
1 The processor isn't what you thought it is, but I think you eliminated that.
2 The system cannot run the processor at the correct speed. Mainly this has to with overheating, and/or that memory and processor cannot cooperate. This must be it, as you noticed the processor is correctly recognised.
You have little connected right? Then the best thing would be to pull power cable out. Take the motherboard and redo the seating of the processor, this is much better done with motherboard taken out.
At the same time, I suggest you clear CMOS. Should always be done when changing processor, and I've noticed on the Internet there are a few 1,5V XP2800 around.
