New speakers ( SBS 2.1 370 ): subwoofer humming and beating ?

I've just purchases new speakers (SBS 2.1 370 , subwoofer + 2 speakers) for my computer.
I'm afraid that either they're defective, or I've done something wrong (never having owned a subwoofer before)... the symptoms are:
1. The subwoofer issues a non-stop humming noise (low electrical buzz), even when there's nothing playing on my computer, and even if all possible volume dials are turned as low as possible :
- Dialing the volume all the way down, using the dial at the back of the subwoofer
- Dialing the volume all the way down, using the dial near the speaker's power button
- Using Windows "volume control", setting it to "mute".
None of these helps - the buzzing continues... only way to stop it is to completely shut off the *power* to the speakers (turning the power switch off , or disconnecting the cable).
2. In addition, whenever some atcual sound is played on my computer, the subwoofer would issue occasional bass beats (kind of "drum beats"), -2 beats per second. Those beats are irregular, and are not related to the sound file being played (it would occur even when playing a recording of someone speaking quietly with no background music).
BTW I have Pentium 4, Windows XP Home (Service Pack 2), not sure what the sound card is, but it's some interl on-board, and it came with SoundMAX.

For speakers you don't normally have to install any files, the speakers just connect to your soundcard. Make sure the soundcard or onboard audio is installed correctly, as that will be feeding the audio to your speakers, if the soundcard doesn't work correctly then the speakers won't be able to do much.

I have a cracked screen from a few months ago. A few days ago out of nowhere my spears won't work (ringing, speakerphone, music) apple told me I need new speakers but I don't think that can be it. Help?!

[Athlon64] Sound problem with new speakers, maybe related to soundcard on motherboard!

I just bought new speakers to my PC, creative Inspire GD580, but no sound are comin from them! they worked, because on the remote u could press test and then a noise came from each speaker (its 5.1) but no sound in windows, (when u log in or out and that kind off stuff) and not when I play music or games. Whats he problem? they are exactly right plugged in in the computer and that kind of tuff sp thats not the problem. I wonder if it has anything to do with my motherboard because the sound card are on it, I dont use any seperatly sound card, I use the one on the motherboard, the motherboard is an MSI K8T NEO2 FIR, K8T800PRO, Socket-939 SATA, GbLAN, ATX, Raid, Firewire, AGP8X (sound exit : VIA VT8237 - 7.1 sorround sound.) Is this my problem? please help! The Sound card i think its called Realtek AC'97 Audio for Via Audiocontroller, is that bad or good?
Maybe thet just control the sound, i'm not sure its the sound cards name!

the old speakers work fine, the new ones don't. So I don't think, that this is an issue of the mainboard.
Please check if the speakers are really connected the right way. Also check "Audio devices" (sorry, don't know the equivalent in non-german Windows) in Control Panel, if speaker setup corresponds to your hardware. There is also a MSI- or realtek thingy in the control panel, you should have a look at the settings there, too.
In BIOS there is not much to check. You can only enable or disable the onboard audio device. BIOS Version is shown on startup, it might be necessary to press the [pause] key in order to read the information.

New MBP 17 inch Problems with Windows Vista, and BF 2142

Hello!
So I just have 2 little issues that bug the **** out of me. OSX runs flawless. I love it.. But I use Vista to run Battlefield 2142.
So my first issue is the microphone. If I go to close the lid of the MBP, I get feedback from the speakers, and microphone. Even though I have the microphone on mute for Vista, it doesn't mute the microphone all the way.
If I Hook up a headphone to the output jack I can close the lid since it disables the MBP speakers.. But all my tapping and grunting can be heard via the heaphones.
Does anyone know if there is a fix? Or why the **** Vista isn't muting the device properly?
Now my other issue is Battlefield 2142.
I can get it running only when I have a External monitor plugged into the MBP, and the Lid is closed.
If I try to run Battlefield 2142 without a external monitor, and using the Display of the MBP, it crashes.. I have tried a ton of different Resolutions, and it is always the same story each time.
If anyone else has had these issues, and has found a solution, please share.

P.S Oh, another thing. I have a Quad G5 that I run Logic Pro on. It came out right before the Intel Mac Pro machines. If I sold the G5, and and used this new Macbook Pro, would the Macbook Pro that I now have perform better than my older G5 in Logic Pro?

I just bought a new Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I replaced my old HP 520N but am disapointed with this sound card... I game alot like Counter Strike and listen to alot of music. I mostly use winamp and windows media player.. Well today when I got the new Dell I couldn't wait to hear this new sound card. On my HP I only used the onboard processor dri'ven sound, and by far that sounded awesome with my Altec Lansing satelites and sub.... But this Creative card sounds real low and muffled? I Can't figure out what could be wrong? I tried all the options and still I have to turn my speakers up to half to 3/4s and check the creative volume at more than half to listen at a decent level? My old pc Did this performance at like /4 the speaker volume and half the windows pc volume? Just seems to me that this card might be shot or something is wrong with my setup? I have the speakers plugged into the green output on the card. that is the only one I could get sound from. I can't seem to turn the onboard sound on for this computer to test it against the card?Can anyone offer me some insight or help? I know these are in fact low end as far as money goes but you would think it would be better than onboard sound and so far its way below that...

I tried messing with direct out and such but no avail.. It seems that when I play a normal audio cd it sounds AWESOME.. But when I play mp3s on my pc they sound lower almost as if they are not of quality at all? I even tried to convert them to wav files to see if that would work but nothing...
Again, sound effects and original cds sound incredible.. Guess I am done listening to mp3s on my pc

Well, I'm not sure how anything can fit into a 5 mm depth, so I can see why they've removed the CD drive - there probably wouldn't be enough room for the laser, LOL. Can't imagine speakers, hard drive (of any flavor), logic board and so on and so forth. Fortunately, my iMac has Applecare through early 2015 so I'm set for a while; I may check out a Mini at that point - saw that it is configurable with a fusion drive, which would make it interesting for me.

Speakers poping when onbaord audio hardware initializes and turns off

I noticed the audio hardware stops transmitting a signal after 30 seconds or so. During the startup and shutdown time of the audio hardware I hear a pop in my speakers. Is there a fix for this?
I did recently buy new speakers. The old ones did not do this. Is it possible it is the 1/8" audio cable? I might buy a new/better cable and try it out.

If you seriously what any help, you are going to have to provide much more information such as name and model of the speakers and how they are connected to the Mac.

A stereo, a loud hum, and three Macs

Audio/hardware/electrical issue.
Friend has a brand new Mac Pro, a G5 tower, a MacBook Pro and a killer classic stereo. As of a month ago, he could plug in either the G5 or MBP to the stereo via mini-jack and get great sound from iTunes.
Then something changed, and suddenly the G5 started generating an overpowering bass hum, but the MBP continues to work fine. The new Mac Pro also generates the same hum.
In researching, I suspect it has something to do with the 60 hz ground loop, and I know there are ground loop him eliminators out there, but I don't know enough about this topic to pick a good solution. Computers & stereo are plugged into the same circuit via grounded outlets.
Three questions:
1) what could have changed to cause the G5 to start to hum, after years of working? audio cable is the same. Surge protector is the same.
2) why does the MBP continue to work fine? Something to do with running of a battery vs. a power supply?
3) what's the best way to eliminate the hum in this situation? The stereo is "old" and does not have optical inputs.

If the stereo has a two prong plug, try reversing the plug. It it has a polarized plug (one wide prong) than can't be reversed, try a different outlet.

It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

The print server that I want to connect allows me to choose among 2 usb printers and 01 serail port printer. It needs to be connected to a router through a lan port. Given that the all new airport express now come with a wan and a lan port, i want to know if I can connect this device to the airport express.

You're welcome.
Beware that while USB print servers are commonly available and inexpensive, finding one with a serial port is more of a challenge. Apple Stores in the US do not sell them. Call the iStore before going there.
If you need recommendations for obtaining a print server with a serial port, let me know.
