New-SPWOPIBinding Failing with "The server did not respond"

I am currently attempting to create a binding between my SharePoint environment and our Office Web Apps server.
I am able to connect to the Office Web Apps server when I allow HTTP connections (on both the Web Apps Server and the SharePoint server) and create the binding using the -AllowHTTP command but am unable to connect to the server when trying over HTTPS.
I have created a DigiCert UCC certificate for the Office Web Apps server that uses the common name of the DNS CNAME entry for the Office Web Apps server (owas.contoso.com) and includes the FQDN of the server in the SAN (saowas.contoso.local).
I can ping the Office Web Apps server from the SharePoint server and can hit https://owas.contoso.com/hosting/discovery over HTTPS from the SharePoint server, and have disabled the firewalls on both servers.
When I attempt to run New-SPWOPIBinding -Servername "owas.contoso.com"
on the SharePoint server it quickly gives me the WARNING: The server did not respond.  Trying again (attempt 1 of 5)
errors.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can check the ULS logs, found in the 15 hive, by default:
%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
I would recommend a log viewer though.  There are several out there (I use the first one):

  • Problems with Tomcat Server : Does not respond (Sometimes) - Plz Need Help

I have a web application running on Tomcat 4.1.31. (SUN/Solaris)
Clients access through iPlanet Web Proxy (SUN/Solaris).
Theres a class that build a generic form (it return html codes) then it's affected in the JSP page :
    MyClass class = new MyClass();
    <%= class.getHtmlCode() %>
the size of the form is variable (100Ko to 1,5Mo)
When i m using the proxy, sometimes the server does not respond when he do the affectation <%= class.getHtmlCode() %>.
If i call the page without proxy it work.
The problem seem not depending of the size of the form. Without proxy it always work. And with proxy sometimes the server does not work.

    Hi Leon,
If you are getting the ZENworks menu when holding down the Ctrl-Alt keys, PXE/PDHCP seems to be doing the right thing. Routing issues also don't seem the case as you can pull down the first PXE boot files....
The server running PXE, I assume it also runs the TFTP and Imaging services?
These services are also running a recent version of Zen 7 (IR3/IR4)? A little more info on these components and what server they are on would be good :)

  • I am using iPhoto version 9.6 and I can no longer get an email sent with a photo attached. I get an error message saying the email did not go through because the server did not reply. I can send the photo with Mail. Help!

I have upgraded to Yosemite and also updated the iPhoto application to version 9.6. I am no longer able to send a photo from iPhoto via email. I get an error message saying the server is not responding. But, when using the same server in Mail, I can attach the photo and send it. My wife is using the older version of iPhoto and it works fine.
I have checked the settings for the outgoing server, etc. and the Mail settings match those in iPhoto.
Could this be due to either the Yosemite upgrade or the iPhoto upgrade?

This solution is for those of you using 2-step verification for your Apple ID and are using iCloud as the mail server that you are trying to mail photos with.
I too had this issue. The problem in my case occurred because I had setup 2-step authentication for my Apple ID. If you have done this then you will get the error message "the mail server did not recognize your email/password...". To solve the problem go to:
    https://appleid.apple.com
    Click "Manage Your Apple ID"
Verify your identity with the device you selected (if this step does not show up then you have not likely set up 2-step authentication and this is not your solution)
Click Password and Security in the left column
    Click Generate an app-specific password
Enter iPhoto as the name of the app
Copy the password and paste this into the password box in iPhoto where you would normally enter your apple ID (in the mail account section in iPhoto preferences).
    And...voila' (I hope)

in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Windows Server 2012 Foundation, in a Workgroup - "The server did not finish checking the license compliance. If the server is joined to a domain, make sure that the server can connect to a domain controller"...

Every few days we see two dialogs with the following messages:
Dialog 1, title: Check for Licensing Compliance is Incomplete
The server did not finish checking the license compliance. If the server is joined to a domain, make sure that the server can connect to a domain controller.
Dialog 2, title: Check for Licensing Compliance is Incomplete
The server did not finish checking the license compliance. If the server is joined to a domain, make sure that the server can connect to a domain controller. If the license compliance check cannot be completed, the server will automatically shut
    down in 8 day(s) 23 hour(s) 0 minute(s).
The server is not (and never has been) joined to a domain or had any DC roles installed. In fact its still connected to the default Workgroup.
The server was configured in our office and never showed this message until it was installed on site. The main difference from what I can see is that when installed on site it was given a static IP address and does not have any DNS settings in the network
    adapter properties.
I have scoured a number of forums on this error but in almost every other instance of this error message the servers are connected to a Domain Controller and the solutions generally are linked to dis-joining and rejoining the domain. Unfortunately this is
not an option for this scenario.
I initially thought that adding some relevant DNS server IP address may resolve the issue, however, we have the exact same model server configured exactly the same running at a different site that does not experience this problem. This server also has no
    DNS server configured.
I have seen a post that suggests turning off the servers "Foundation Checking", but I'm unsure how to do this.

    Thanks for your response Vivian.
I can confirm that this server is not (and never has been) a member of any active directory, it is configured as a Workgroup server. It was initially configured on a network that does have an active directory, but was never joined to it. During that time it
    never displayed these messages.
The server was moved into production on a different site and network and setup with a static IP address. The site network does have its own active directory but the server was not joined to it. It is whilst on this new network that these messages began.
Since my original post DNS servers have been added and the Microsoft activation has been verified, however, the messages are still appearing.
There are only 2 user accounts configured on this server. The local admin account and another local admin user.
The remote desktop services roles have been installed but not yet configured. I don't think that has any bearing on this scenario though.
The description of this error in the above "Introduction to Windows Server 2012 Foundation" link states:
This error occurs when the server cannot finish checking the requirements for the root domain, forest trust configuration, or both. It usually happens when the server cannot connect to a domain controller. If the situation persists, the server will
shut down 10 days after the first time the compliance check failed. Each time this error message occurs, it will state the actual time remaining before the server will shut down. If you restart the server after it has shut down because of non-compliance, the
server will shut itself down again in 3 days.
The above description leads me to the following question - In a Workgroup environment, does the server still try to contact a domain controller to establish a level of trust? If this is the case could it be that the server can no longer see the initial DC
on its new network and this is what is triggering the messages?
Am I clutching at straws here?

  • OS X Server / VPN /The L2TP-VPN server did not respond...HELP!

    I am very new to OS X Server and my goal is to setup DNS & VPN!  I would like to have this setup to be able to connect into my apple computer from work or friends house.  I am using an Apple Airport Extreme router and im also using the latest version OS X Mountain Lion with OS X Server installed.  I have started an account with dyndns website for user host name (using a [email protected] address). I assume this would be used as an alternate way of being able to connect without starting a personal website.  I also signed up for another site (no-ip) and I now have a different IP address (not sure if that was necessary). I then followed instructions on youtube (instructional videos by todd for OS X Server Mountain Lion) which seemed to be very easy to understand. But after setting up my VPN on the client side (network setting in system preferences), i tried to connect VPN (L2TP) and i receive this error message "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator.". When I open Consol in the utilities folder, I am seeing part of the following message below;
racoon[117]: IKE Packet: transmit success. (Phase1 Retransmit).
racoon[117]: IKE Packet: receive failed. (malformed or unexpected cookie).
    pppd[490]: IPSec connection failed
Does anyone know what's happening or what I need to do to fix this?  Or can someone tell me the basic requirements to setting things up correctly?

Im using Comcast for my ISP and from the wall I have a Motorola Surfboard 6120 cable modem (not sure how to access my setting on the modem). So basically I have my 6120 cable modem connected to the Apple AirportExtreme router and is then wirelessly connected to my macbook pro.  im providing screen shots of my apple router settings, OS X Server settings and firewall (which is turned off) settings.  Any suggestion on how i should set things up or if you can tell me step by step would be greatly appreciated.

  • IVPN starts, but "the pptp-vpn server did not respond. Try reconnecting."

Hi. I am new to VPN, and I just got the software iVPN from Macserve, and the server starts successfully, using either PPTP or L2TP:
But the connections from my network do not connect. Every time I click on "connect" for either network connection, I get the error "the pptp-vpn server did not respond. Try reconnecting."
I set up both connections in my Network Preferences according to the support page (http://macserve.org.uk/support/ivpn/):
My Airport Express configurations have never given me any problems with my home network:
And I think that I forwarded the ports properly (even though my firewall is not activated):
    What am I doing wrong?

The Apple routers can be a problem on vpn passthrough.
Ports that are required for vpn are more complicated ..
See earlier post.. eg How do I set up L2TP VPN?
Ports for PPTP which you have opened manually.. are not valid for L2TP.. so you need several more ports opened.
The problematic ones are GRE and ESP which are protocols not ports.
I think you can pretty well assume the apple router running anything that has BTMM in it won't work.. since it will need the port 500 for itself.
On the old express try going back to 7.6.1 firmware.. I have to say I don't use the express.. lots of extreme and TC.. so their firmware issues are slightly different so firmware versions for the express are somewhat different.
Try not to use both port forwards (mapping if you must).. and DMZ.. they can fight each other.. if DMZ doesn't work it is better to turn it right off and forward all the required ports.
    Let me recommend a test.
Plug your cable modem directly into the computer running the VPN.. so you have no NAT router in front of it.
Pay attention to the local firewall that apple runs and what ports you will need to open on it to get vpn to work.. this is your best chance to get remote vpn running. If you fail with the public IP on the computer it will certainly fail through NAT.. and generally local firewall will be an issue.
You should of course test that a client in the local lan can connect by the vpn.. it is always worth testing from the easiest configuration to the most complex.
So local lan just as you have now..
Then direct cable connection to the computer.
Then NAT router.. but you can pretty well assume apple routers are going to be problematic because apple want to dally at BTMM using same ports as IPSEC uses for L2TP.
My email is live.. roll your mouse over it and talk to me direct..

  • Developer Studio:Exception:The message server did not respond within 60 sec

    Folks,
I am getting this error in Developer Studio ( J2EE Engine Preference) , Can anyone please tell me what is the issue.
Exception: The message server did not respond within 60 sec. Please check if the message server is running and if the socket connection has been established
    Thanks,
    Manish

If the system information page is showing 3900, you should use 3900 in your studio settings.
39xx is the new default for 2004s. It was 36xx with 2004. And xx is the instance number.

  • VPN Problems - The L2TP-VPN server did not respond

Okay, so I read quite a few threads about this and can't really figure it out. Would be great if I can get some handholding.
I'm a complete newbie, trying to set up Server for home use. The VPN service seems to be running fine, but I just can't connect from the clients, it just keeps saying "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond". Here is a glimpse at my settings:
    - I have opened up all the relevant ports for UDP (500,1701,4500) and TCP (1723). But this is only required for the Server, right?
    - I don't have a domain name yet so just using my external IP. This is what I put in under VPN Host name in the Server and Client settings.
    - I login with username and password credentials for one of my network users as created in the Server. Format is [email protected] and the password is the same as the login password.
** I seem to get a 'authentication failed' error if I just use my local IP address... Not sure whats happening their, but before that I need to be able to connect to Server with the external IP!
Am I missing something? Why won't my client connect and that too when I'm at home?

To run a public VPN server behind an NAT gateway, you need to do the following:
    1. Give the gateway either a static external address or a dynamic DNS name. The latter must be a DNS record on a public DNS registrar, not on the server itself. Also in the latter case, you must run a background process to keep the DNS record up to date when your IP address changes.
    2. Give the VPN server a static address on the local network, and a hostname that is not in the top-level domain "local" (which is reserved for Bonjour.)
    3. Forward external UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 (for L2TP) and TCP port 1723 (for PPTP) to the corresponding ports on the VPN server.
If your router is an Apple device, select the Network tab in AirPort Utility and click Network Options. In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
    Allow incoming IPSec authentication
if it's not already checked, and save the change.
With a third-party router, there may be a similar setting.
    4. Configure any firewall in use to pass this traffic.
    5. Each client must have an address on a netblock that doesn't overlap the one assigned by the VPN endpoint. For example, if the endpoint assigns addresses in the 10.0.0.0/24 range, and the client has an address on a local network in the 10.0.1.0/24 range, that's OK, but if the local network is 10.0.1.0/16, there will be a conflict. To lessen the chance of such conflicts, it's best to assign addresses in a random sub-block of 10.0.0.0./0 with a 24-bit netmask.
    6. "Back to My Mac" on the server is incompatible with the VPN service.
If the server is directly connected to the Internet, see this blog post.

  • Email did not go through because the server did not reply?

When I try to email photos directly from Iphoto, it keeps saying that the email did not go through because the server did not reply, however the server is fine. Can anyone assist.  This is a new issue, I was able to send photos a week ago.

I have the same problem with iPhoto 9.2.3 running OX 10.7.4  This is a recent problem and the server is fine,  I can send mail from my primary email client (Outlook).  I can share photos to face book but I can't share a photo from iPhota via email now.   The message pops up immediately after I click the send button.

  • Iphoto can't share via email; error message: Your email did not go through because the server did not reply.

I can never share via email, using iPhoto. The error: Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. always pops up. I have no problems with my server or internet connection.
    Any ideas?
    thanks.

Go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the   email account there. Then add it back.  If that fails you can select Mail as your email client in iPhoto as that's more reliable and flexible.  It also offers stationary for photos that are not unlike those in iPhoto's client:
and using Mail as the client will allow you to have a Sent copy automatically.

Are you able to email from Mail with those two accounts?  If so:
1 - go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete both accounts. Now add them back and try again.
2 - a better solution IMO is to set Mail as the email client for iPhoto is iPhoto's General preference pane.  This gives you better access to your contacts, a sent copy of all emails and, if you want a layout similar to iPhoto's, photo layouts located in Mail's stationary.

  • Is my HD Dead? Reformat Disk Utility Error: secure disk erase failed with the error could not open disk.

    Hi,
Fed up with seeing the spinning beach ball I decided to reformat my MacBook Pro...
After backing up everything on an external hard drive I put in the OSX install DVD, restarted the machine and held down 'C'.
I followed the install prcedure, clicking next a few times etc...
I then went into Utilities > Disk Utility. I chose 7-Pass to erase the Macintosh HD and set it off erasing.
I checked the process an hour in and message on screen read:
Secure disk erase failed with the error:
    could not open disk
The internal hard drive no longer exists in the disk utility so I cant retry erasing it.
The only thing that appears in disk utility is the OSX install DVD.
I can't even shut down the mac as everything under the apple tab is greyed out!
I'm guessing this means my hard drive is broken right?
If anyone has any other ideas of what to try I'd really appreciate that.
How do I turn the machine off?
If my hard drive is gone then should I consider getting an SSD drive?
Any recommendations for such a drive would be great.
    Hope you can help!

    Did you partition the drive?
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
