New System Questions

Hi,
A while back I purchased a Prevision T5500 with the following specs.
Precision T5500
Dual Xeon E5620 @ 2.4ghz
12gb Ram
Quadro 5000 Video Card
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5
Matrox MXO2 LE w/Max
I recently found out that my system specs are not compatiable with any HD.  I read that my processor was not fast enough.
I am wondering what processor I should have purchased or if there is any useful information on selecting the appropriate system.  I went through Adobe's specs, but it was just a generic set of specifications.  Also, is the Matrox MXO2 LE with Max the best I/O for Premiere or are they other alternatives?

Start with the last question about Matrox. The best alternative is don't use Matrox at all. The perpetual problems with their drivers, the long time it takes them to fix issues are not worth it.
The system is not bad. It is only 3-4 times slower than a fast system. But it could well be that it is seriously slowed down by Matrox. For ideas about a different system look at Adobe Forums: What PC to build? An update... or PPBM6 Planning a new system
In the future if you need a new system, bypass Dell, HP and similar brands and go to a good custom builder like ADK or DIY.

  • Dell Vostro New System Questions

I was looking into purchasing a Dell Vostro system for video editing with the Production Premium.
I heard that the XPS systems are made more specifically for video editing, but the Vostro I was looking into seems to have comparable specs to an XPS system.
    Here are the main specs:
    Intel Core 2 Quad Proc Q6600 (2.40GHz,8MB L2Cache,1066FSB)
    4 GB DDR2 NON-ECC SDRAM 800MHz (4 DIMMs)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) (I know I may have to add another hd).
Has anyone had any experiences with the Vostro or would know if this should work well?
    Thanks!

    >Vostro's have (at least mine has) room for only one additional hard drive.
I'd pass by any prebuilt computer that doesn't allow you to have at least 5 total internal hard drives and two optical drives, or allow you to change out the power supply, or add in or otherwise change the GPU and sound card. Those features are pretty much standard with any decent case, and all prebuilt computers should have such a case.

  • RedHat9 new system question.

I want to install Oracle 8i or 9i on a generic PC running RedHat9. (I have the Oracle 8i for Linux Starter Kit book). I've already gotten Oracle 8i installations running using Microsoft Windows 2000 server but want to get it running on Linux too. I'm needing to use the Oracle Spatial so I need to load Oracle's Enterprise Edition. I've searched for basic installation information and have found a few links but I am looking for information geared toward someone new to Linux.
I'm looking for information as basic as which installation type is required, Server or Workstation (I'm assuming server). Is there a reason to whether I should choose KDE or GNOME? That level of information would be helpful.
Does anyone know of a write-up that would help newbies setting up Linux and Oracle for the first time?

I don't think the server install automatically configures X-windows. So I would suggest Workstation would be the best/easiest
I prefer Gnome myself. Based on the gnome project:
    http://www.gnome.org/
I really haven't spent much time on KDE.
My own documentation on installing Oracle 8.1.7 on RedHat
    is available at:

  • Why can't I post a question from my new system?

    Hello All:
I was just trying to post a question from my new mbp but it wouldn't allow me to do anything.  It continually gave me a message highlighted in 'red' that i was;t allowed to modify or post anything.  I've been asking questions for quite a while and have never seen this.  I also happen to have my older bmp, also logged onto the 'Apple Discussions' site, open beside me.  Can anyone explain this to me please?  BTW, my new system obviously has Yosemite on it while my older bmp has Lion.  Thanks in advance, to all those who respond.

ChitlinsCC, I'm adding your reloaders to my article on how to make using ASC easier.
Here is my ASC work flow...
    1) I login.
    2) Block the automatic 30 minute logout.
Unless you do something every thirty minutes you get logged out.  The forum software waits to tell you this as long as it can to keep you in suspense  ;-) . Filling out a reply is the exception to the thirty minute window.
            Start an auto reloader.
    Safari = SafariTabReloader
Firefox = ReloadEvery: "Reload web pages automatically"
Others = Reloaders | Cerberus - Support Center
You need to pick a page that will reload over time without stalling out. It's ASC.  I've found my profile display the best to use. I get my Profile page after some  logins.  It's ASC.  Change rccharles to your apple id.
    https://discussions.apple.com/people/rccharles?view=discussions
    Reply technique
Open a new browser window.  Pick some discussion.  Open a reply window.  As long as this reply window is open, you will stay logged in.  The 30 minute times is reset as needed by the ASC software.
    3) I open another window to do my normal ASC browsing.
    4) I have a FireFox bookmark to goto the discussions that I have participated in. I've modified it to add on the content stuff.
turingtest2 recommends. Change rccharles to your apple id:
    https://discussions.apple.com/people/rccharles/content?filterID=participated~obj ecttype~objecttype%5Bthread%5D
    5) Use turingtest2's generated links with the /content suffix as browser bookmark to the ASC discussions:
Site map of Communities and Categories
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2463
    6) Adjust the ASC web page layout.
    For FireFox
I run with Hiroto's modification to user content.  This is the only way these forums are readable for me.  How to adjust the format and layout of ASC Web Pages:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7501
    For Safari
"ASCPowerTools is a Safari Extension designed to give more control"
    http://www.etresoft.com/ascpowertools
    7) Read and answer my old posts.  I kind of memorize the time I last posted. ( It's way bad that apple eliminated the last poster to a thread. )
    8) I use tabbed browsering.  From a list of discussions, hold down the command key then click on the link. You get two tabs this way. The original window will keep where you have been.

  • New MSI system questions/mistakes?

I built a new system with the K7N2 Delta ILSR.
It's running XP home with all the updates/service packs.
It has the latest MSI drivers/utilities.
    Hardware:
AMD XP3200 Barton R with 400 Mhz FSB (more on this later)
1G of PC 3200 Kingmax Memory.
PS case with a TigerPro PSU rated at 350W (also has front USB2.0 ports)
    SCSI drives (7200 and 10K)/Adaptec 2940 U2W.
    Plextor DVD +/- RW
    ATI 9600SE video
So the first issue (now that I have researched things better... duh!)
    1. This MB doesn't take advantage of the CPU/Memory speed, but seems to run OK at 2200 MHz.     Should I try to overclock to get more performance?
    2.  Is this power supply good enough or am I running on the edge?
Finally, I can't get the !@#$% USB2.0 drivers to install.  I've followed some other recent threads with the same issues and tried the recommendations with the same results... no USB2.0 drivers.  I think this is not allowing my Nomad ZenII drivers to install.
    Thanks for any advice.

Regarding question 1, is Kingmax RAM approved for NF2 mobos (check the sticky at the top of this forum).
About question 2, PSU on the edge?
That depends upon the amperages coming from the rails of your power supply (especially the 12V).  The 12V should >18A to properly power your 'puter.
In reality there are only a few good power supply makers (Antec, Enermax, PC-Power & Cooling).  The others like Qtech, Super Power, Uber Super Power, Macho Power, etc. are junk, relating to their $40 price point.  If you want to save yourself alot of headaches get a >430W name brand power supply, and you'll be good to go.  For reference, my 460W Enermax puts out 32A across all three voltages.  We've seen people in this forum with no-name 500W power supplys which put out 14A on the 12V rail and wonder why they're having problems.
Ok, I'll step off my soap box, OUCH...
    Good Luck

  • How do I prepare my iMac for sale? And best practice for transferring media to a new system.

This is my first time posting in a forum, so I will apologize in advance if I'm doing something wrong. I've tried to search for a very clear answer to my questions in the existing discussions, but have not had much luck.
I ordered a Macbook Pro today and would like to sell my current iMac to supplement some of the cost. I purchased my iMac in March of 2011 with OS X Snow Leopard preinstalled. I've since updated to Mountain Lion. When my computer came in it did not have OS DVDs, so I am not sure exactly how to take it back to factory default and remove ALL of my information safely in order to prepare it for sale. I'm afraid to tell it to format if I am going to need a boot disc/drive to reinstall the OS. I've been trying to research all day and have learned that I will not be able to sell it with the current OS, only the one that came with the computer at the time of purchase (to the best of my understanding).
Secondary to all of this, I have a question about backing up info and porting it to my new system. I have run the Time Machine backup to my external hard drive. However, I DO NOT want to port it to my new MBP as an image of my past machine. I did that when I got my iMac from my old MBP and my iMac thinks it is a MBP (MBP EFI/SMC Firmware Update Icons in my system utilities folder as well as identified as a Macbook Pro on my network). I've never been able to get all of these things to go away and I feel like it's chewing up hard drive space for no purpose whatsoever. I also worry that it could create system issues that I'm just not savy enough to catch before they are beyond control. That being said, I'd like to begin fresh with my new MBP. What is the best method of bringing my photos from iPhoto and music/movies/books/etc from iTunes to my new system? My word documents are easy enough...I keep 3 flash drives updated with them at all times.
    Thanks in advance!

Whoever said you can't sell you iMac with the current Mac OS X is wrong, I believe.
    Unfortunately, it is not wrong.
Any OS purchased/obtained at the app store - as is the case here - is not transferable. The license is tied forever to the Apple ID used to obtain it. The SLA states that the seller needs to erase the drive and reinstall the original system.
    @ Kamikazwe:
You can call Apple and give them your serial number and they will send you copies of your original disks at a nominal charge.
You do need to use your original Snow Leopard disk, boot from it, erase the drive, and reinstall Snow Leopard. The buyer of the machine will need to purchase his/her own copy of Lion or Mountain Lion with their own Apple ID or they will never be able to reinstall or update the OS.
    SLA Excerpt:
    3. Transfer.
    A. If you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple-branded hardware, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software (in its original form as provided by Apple) to another party, provided that:  the Apple Software is transferred
together with your Apple-branded hardware; (ii) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, printed materials and this License; (iii) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or
other storage device; and (iv) the party receiving the Apple Software accepts the terms andcconditions of this License. For purposes of this License, if Apple provides an update (e.g., version 10.8 to 10.8.1) to the Apple Software, the update is considered part of the Apple
Software and may not be transferred separately from the pre-update version of the Apple Software.
    B. If you obtained your license to the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, it is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded hardware to a third party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware before doing so, and you may restore your system to the version of the Apple operating system software that originally came with your Apple hardware (the “Original Apple OS”) and permanently transfer the Original Apple OS together with your Apple hardware, provided that:  the transfer must include all of the Original
Apple OS, including all its component parts, printed materials and its license; (ii) you do not retain any copies of the Original Apple OS, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (iii) the party receiving the Original Apple OS reads and agrees to
accept the terms and conditions of the Original Apple OS license.

  • New system recommendations and suggestions

I am in the market (finally) for a new system, and even though I had issues with my old MSI 975X Platinum PUE at the end, it served me well for over 6 years, so I'm pretty much sold by MSI.
This is what I am looking at right now, but I would like to know if there are known issues with the compatibility/functionality of these components:
    -MSI Z87 MPower MAX
    -Intel i7-4770K CPU
    -Corsair Vengeance 16G (2x8G) RAM - (I may bump this to 32G)
    -MSI GeForce GTX 760 2G DDR5 Video
    -UltraX4 Extreme PSU
    -Win7 Ulitmate 64Bit
I will also be getting another smaller (500GB) HD to use just for the OS and my VMWare items in addition to the 1.5T and 1T drives I have now.
Another question I have is that the CPU comes with a stock fan.  Will this be sufficient or should I be looking at something else?
And being that my budget is around $1000 - $1200, is there something better you can recommend that will match the performance of what I selected?
    Thank you

For your needs, I see no reason for 32GB of RAM. You don't want to mix two kits anyway even if they have the exact same part numbers. They may be from different batches or even have different chips on them. On my Z87, I am only using 8GB of RAM and having no problems.
Great choice on that CPU cooler! All my rigs have 9900's on them. They do outstanding and have helped me attain some impressive OC's using them.
The Corsair HX850W is what I use as well. Excellent PSU!
Probably one port is DVI-s and the other is DVI-d? The BIOS will probably recognize the discrete card is installed and set the graphics automatically to PEG mode.
A word of caution though. The GTX 760 may need a Legacy VBIOS to work right out of the box. If that happens, a UEFI/BIOS update may help or the VBIOS will need to be flashed. The onboard graphics can be used in the meantime to get the flashing done and the GTX 760 taken care of if it needs it. That is why some of us recommended the GTX 6xx series. They usually don't have any problems out of the box.

  • IBook G4 - Upgrade or Buy New System

I need help making a decision: is it reasonable to upgrade my iBook G4 (RAM, operating system) (+bigger hard drive?); or do I need to abandon it and buy a newer system? My considerations are: 1) DC-inboard is probably flaky. Even with a new power supply and power adapter, the battery intermittently stops charging (the LED light goes out). I have to unplug it from the power strip and move the plug to a different outlet on the strip to get it going again. 2) I'm using Safari 1.3.2 and more web sites are thumbing their noses at my "unsupported/outdated" browser. 3) The other software I use is fairly basic: MS Word 98 (running under Classic); Reunion; Photoshop Elements 2.0; Appleworks 6.0. 4) The hard drive has about 15mb free. 5) It might be Christmas but I am seriously unemployed, which is why I have been waffling over this decision for months. Thanks for y'all's suggestions.

    Hi, UUWoman:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It might be Christmas but I am seriously unemployed
That's a difficult place to be. I know as some of my family are there. However, even with your tight finances, it seems to be that updating your computer will be more cost effective than purchasing a new or newer computer. Let's take your issues in order..
    1. We'll begin with the HDD. Your drive is dangerously full. Besides, your computer is now 5 years old. The average life of a laptop internal HDD is 3 to 5 years. So in addition to your drive being too full it is liable to fail without notice. I believe that is your top priority. You can buy a new HDD for $50 to $100. If you can install it yourself you will save $75 or so. The DC-in board can be changed at the same time. Cost less than $20.
Instead of Safari I suggest you try Camino 1.6.10, which looks like Safari, but it is faster, more stable and more powerful. Free download.
So, your costs so far would be, let's say $75 for a new HDD, $20 for the DC-in Board if you do it yourself, or add $75 for installation. For less than $200 you will have your computer functional again. You will need around $700 for a used MacBook or $1000 for a new one.
May I suggest that if you are unable to upgrade your drive and you have valuable information on it, that you back it up immediately. You can also try to lean things down, but with so little HDD free capacity you hardly have room for working. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk is an excellent guide for clearing some breathing space.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

  • New system does not boot properly

I just set up a new system with:
     a MS-6728 Neo2 FIS2R Mobo,
    1gb Geil PC-3500 RAM (2x512),
    2.6C proc.
2 Maxtor 120gb IDE drives RAID 0 with the onboard promise controller.
    Lite-On DVD burner
    ATI radeon 9800 video card
Enermax 300 watt power supply with:
    3.3v - 28amp
    5v - 30amp
    12v 22amp
    170watt total 3.3/5 combined
My problem is that my system NEVER boots up normally.  It always freezes in the bios startup.  The D-bracket stops at almost every possible combination of led's, which according to the manual the problems were:  Testing RTC, Initialize Video interface, Testing memory, Initializing floppy controller, Memory detection, Decompressing bios to ram, possibly more.  Sometimes I also just get beeping, either a continuous beep or 8 beeps.  A few times it would display the bios startup screen, but halfway down would be gibberish characters and would be locked up.  When I then turn the computer off then on again, the bios is reset at least somewhat(i know because I usually disable the full screen image on startup) and says memory timings are too tight, and I have the choice to enter bios or hit any key to automatically fix things.  If I hit any key it will boot up ok.  However when I restart/turn off the computer, the next time it again does not boot.  I tried upping the ram voltages from 2.5-2.9v, and that seems to stay that way in the bios, even when it resets itself.  Everything else is set to auto/slow.  If I try to manually adjust the memory timings, even to the slowest possible settings, it does not boot, and I must turn it on/off a few times till the bios resets again, with the boot process stopping at one of the possiblilitys mentioned above.    Using the info tab on speedfan, I got the memory info, and it displayed the voltage at 2.5v, not sure what that means but it is strange.
    What I have already attempted:
I sent back the ram and got a new set, which hasn't changed anything.  The first time the other ram failed memtest, this time it passed(for about 2 hrs).  So I don't think its the ram.
I borrowed an antec truepower 430w powersupply, which had no effect.
I went back to bios version 1.3 from 1.9, which also seems to have no effect.
I was hoping to overclock the system a bit and enable performance mode etc etc, but now I'll be happy to just not have to go through a song and dance everytime I restart the computer.  This is only the second computer I have built from scratch, and the first with raid, but that seemed to all go ok.  Please help me diagnose the problem!

I too am having problems with my system.
    865PE Neo2-FIS2R
    2 Maxtor 120GB S-ATA drives, RAID 0, Promise
    2 512MB Geil Ultra CL2-3-3-6
    HP CD-RW
What IDE settings are you using?
    E.g...Native? P-ATA Only...all of those settings
For me...sometimes XP will install and boot...but eventually system is unstable and XP crashes and corrupts itself...Event Manager errors different each time
Someone mentioned problems with Maxtor and AMI BIOS...anything I should keep in mind?
Sorry about all the different questions.  I'm sure exactly where my problem lies.  MSI thinks it may be my memory AND/OR on-board IDE controller since I can't get the on-board Intel RAID setup to consistently "see" and setup my RAID drives...even when it has worked...XP doesn't like the Intel configured RAID drives.  Also tried just one S-ATA drive through on-board Intel and Promise.  Next I will try a plain old IDE Hard Drive...no S-ATA...and make sure my memory passes memtest86+ testing.
Any other gems you can offer for this config???  Thanks.

  • Add new system to an Existing project in Change Request in Solution Manager

    HI,
Is it ok to add new systems and remove systems to an existing Project in Solution Manager with Change Request Management activated?
Currently, Change request is already set-up in our solution landscape, however, a new BI Dev and QA systems were created to replace the old Dev and QA systems that was initially set-up in our Charm. Can you please share with me the steps that I need to do to successfully remove old Dev and QA from Charm and replace them with the new systems? Is it safe to do this in an open project and maintenance cycle?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Please, check the topic "6. Changes in the logical components of a project where Charm is already activated" of the link below:

  • Migrating SU24 to new system properly (ecc 5.0 to ecc 6.0)

    Hello,
We are currently upgrading from ECC 5.0 to 6.0. As part of this cutover to the new system, I need to download SU24 properly from the 5.0 system and upload it to the new 6.0 environment because we heavily use SU24 for custom tcodes and to add additional auth objects to SAP delivered transactions.
The good thing is that SU24 has a download capability in the transaction, but the problem is that it gives you three option of downloads, in which all three can be selected.
    1) SAP Data
    2) Original Data
    3) Customer Data
I know that we will obviously want to use the "Customer Data" due to our Ztcodes, but what is the difference between SAP Data and Original Data?
Our goal would be to download and upload only our custom changes (to both custom transactions and SAP transactions), but we do not want to overwrite any newly delivered SU24 updates that SAP may have implemented in ECC 6.0.
Has anyone ever done this or does anyone have an idea what these mean? Of course, the SAP help is useless on this issue.
I looked for such messages and read them here, I guess I still have some anxiety about ensuring that I download only what my company has maintained since our older 5.0 system went live. If I download all of the "Customer Data" option, I think that covers all of our custom transaction codes, but will that cover the auth objects associations to SAP delived tcodes we have made as well?
Also, It  seems that I will have to use SU25 to activate.  Any information of the best way to to do this our situation would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Thanks for responding.
The thing is that the person asking the questions does not give a hoot about points until they have an answer, and then only maybe... so forget about points.
Answering questions with random links or wild guesses in the hope that one of them scores a few points makes a big mess of the forums and renders the search almost useless when all these link-farms turn up.
Take a look at this thread for an extreme example => work flow
It is okay to post a link when there is a good reason for it, embedded within a discussion or to support an answer as a reference.
Please take a look at this thread for a more detailed discussion => How Far it is Good???
    Now, back to the discussion...
I am not logged on, but if I remember correctly there is a function module which uses combinations of these three flags to read the SAP data (current SU22 data), the original data (SU22 data without the "update" flag - because in the past SAP rolled out some support pack notes to change SU22 and some customers maintained SU22 anyway instead of SU24...) and the customer data (which is what you are looking for). Additionally the function module parameter has a 4th flag for when nothing is checked, and then it downloads everything (?). The name of the function was something like SU22LISTVALUES but you should be able to find it via the Object Navigator from the download screen - Menu => System => Status => double-click the GUI Screen program. I remember there being lots of comments in the coding as well to help understand it.
But this was some time ago and on a 4.7 system when I had looked into it, so please also check how many entries are downloaded and compare these to your USOBT_C and USOBX_C tables before you do anything like an upload... - as the download might not deliver information you are expecting (assuming that you ran SU25 after making changes or made some changes to SU22 without importing them via support packages, etc).
Let us know what you find. I will take a look in the next days as well when I find a system with some data in it...
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • How to  add a new System status?

    Hi,
I am working on the Bid invitation process. When we process the Bid submitted, we have 'approve' , 'reject' buttons which when clicked wil set the system status to 'I1014' & I1013' respectively.these r maintained in TJ02.
I have added one more button called 'Interim approval' for the bid. I want to set a system status whn this button is clicked.
My question is how to add a new system status to the  existing list?
Plz help me in solving this...

  • New Computer Questions

    Hi
I have two clients who are asking me to upgrade my computer. The type of work I do is slightly different from most people, in that I do content for video projection. Almost everything I do uses a non-standard resolution. For example the current project is 1920x3240. Currently the slowest part of the workflow is previewing and rendering. Typically the final rendering is a photo sequence of some type and encoding is done on the media server and is not part of my workflow. I used limited amounts of video footage, with most of the content created in Cinema 4D and After Effects. I use a fair amount of 3rd party effects like trapcode with high particle counts. Content is almost always broken down into small segments that are then played back through the media server, because of this, the amount of video used is pretty small.
One of my clients is willing to split the cost of a new system, so I'm willing to spend more than I normally would.
Based on reading this and other forums's here is what I'm looking at:
    Case
Fractal Design Define  ATX Full Tower Computer Case                                          $129.99
      CORSAIR AX1200i 1200W Digital ATX12V v2.31                                                  $329.99
      Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 140mm and 120mm SSO CPU Cooler                          $89.99

    SSD - Cache
    HD Raid - Content
    HD Raid - Content
I have an external raid that has backup data.
I have a number of questions regarding the system.
Does the GTX 680 make sense or should I consider a Titan?
Will the Areca Controller make a big difference in the system for the type of work that I'm doing?
I looked at the WD VelociRaptor10K drives, would that get much of a peformance gain?
    Thanks
    Martin

    The Areca ARC-1882i-8 has 8 internal ports, so you could go for two 4-disk raid3 or raid5 or even easier for one 8-disk raid3 or raid5, possibly with a hot-spare. Roughly, a n-disk raid3 or raid5 will give a sustained transfer rate of around 0.85 x (n - 1) x T. So a 4-disk raid3 or raid5 will give around 380 - 400 MB/s. A 8-disk raid3 or raid5 will have a transfer rate of around 900 MB/s. This shows the advantage of more disks in an array.
Software raids, whether in BIOS or in Windows are limited to striped or mirrored arrays, parity raids are way too slow. Striping is too risky and mirroring does not help speed.
Rendering for previews are helped by hardware acceleration for accelerated effects only. But the effectiveness of the video card depends to a large degree on the speed of the CPU, memory and disks. Unless the CPU is significantly overclocked to 4.5+ GHz, memory runs @ 2133 and the disk setup is very fast (400+ MB/s) a GTX 660 TI will not noticeably be slower than a GTX 680.
Rendering for export is only helped by a CUDA card when scaling, blending or blurring are applied. If you start with HD source material and export to HD resolution, there is no scaling and thus no acceleration by a CUDA card. It is all done by the CPU, memory and the disks.
If you are talking about Velociraptors 10K, no they are not faster than the HGST Ultrastars.
If you are talking about 15K SCSI disks, yes they are faster but require a SCSI controller, both of which make them much more expensive.
Despite having made the feature request for a render farm numerous times, I think since CS3, this has not yet been effected for PR. A render farm like you have in Vue would be a nice addition, but alas...
If you want to have more room for future growth, I would have a look at the 12+4 or 16+4 port ARC 1882iX controller cards. Not only do they expand on the number of ports to 12 or 16 internally, they also add 4 external ports and most importantly, they can accept up to 4 GB cache on the card, where the 8 port versions are limited to 1 GB fixed cache. Do not forget to add a BBM battery backup module to the Areca controller.
If you were to take this step and have all those ports available for future expansion, then it could be wise to have a look at the GTX 780, provided overclocking is applied. The GTX Titan is just too costly to justify.

  • Adding a new system to existing ChaRM Project

    Hi,
We have configured Charm in our landscape and we use Solution Manager 7.1 SP08.
    Requirements:
Add a new system to the existing ChaRM Project.
Edit the logical components for e.g. To replace current SID (QA1) with another SID (QA2)
Add items (Systems or Tasks)to the existing task list
We faced problems (duplicate record dumps), while configuring as per our requirements above. SAP suggested us to
Close the Project and create a new one to include a new system. [This is not feasible for us]
Close the current maintenance cycle and create a new one if you want to edit the logical systems or to add any task or system to the existing task list.
So we have the following questions
What is the impact on closing the current maintenance cycle? We have half of transports in released and half in locked status. What happens to the transports that are not yet released?
Will they automatically get released or
Will they not get impacted or
Will they get assigned to the new maintenance cycle automatically or
Do we need to do it manually or does it not matter
Since we are close to starting our ITC, how do we go about that? How will we bundle our transports for our ITC with different maintenance cycles holding transports
What is the impact on locking a maintenance cycle?
What is the impact on project team members on creating a new maintenance cycle?
How does the maintenance cycle get impacted if we refresh existing systems?
Have you faced a similar problem? Is there an alternate solution?
If we need to add a new development system to the Project do we need to close the current project or just add it to a new maintenance cycle?
    Reporting
How do we run a report for stats by Maintenance cycle
    --> System --> Transport released
--> System --> Transports created (not released)
How does reporting get impacted if we make the changes stated above

    Hi Nanada,
check the below blog,to adding - Add a new system to the existing ChaRM Project.
Charm task list creation for newly added system... | SCN
So we have the following questions
What is the impact on closing the current maintenance cycle? We have half of transports in released and half in locked status. - dont close the MC with out proper TR movement in PRD. it will make the system inconsistency. if it is released TR not able to unassigned from MC . this feature available from SP10. What happens to the transports that are not yet released?
Will they automatically get released or - no
Will they not get impacted or - make solman inconsistency
Will they get assigned to the new maintenance cycle automatically or- if not released from DEv, it needs to assign manually from one MC to other MC

Do we need to do it manually or does it not matter - yes, check the above link

  • Do I need to deactivate my CS5 Student install to install on new system?

We have a Student download of Adobe CS5 on our system and through editing HD we decided that yes, our system won't cut it for long. So we are building a powerhouse replacement.
The question is, how do we install on the new system? We downloaded a large set of zip files used to install. There was no CD involved and we don't have paperwork. It was done through my wife's university and they don't seem to know. (and yes, it was done legally and properly)
I don't see a deactivate button anywhere in the menus, but maybe I am not looking hard enough or in the right place.
We don't wantto find out that, oh boy, CS5 was great, but we can't move it over to the new system because we didn't do something we were supposed to.
    Thanks.

I have never deactivated, but I do know from reading before I bought (I work at a University) that the CS5 education version is exactly the same as the commercial version (except for the price and 2-step registration process) so Hunt's advice on how to deactivate should be the same
Also, making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up
