New T61 won't launch Windows

Just unpacked my new T61, inserted battery, plugged it in, and turned it on.  The hard disk light flickered for awhile, the screen lightened a bit, and after 30 sec or so there was a bit of music.  But no sign of Windows logon screen, or any indication that the keyboard or pointing devices functioned.  Ctrl+Alt+Del produced no results.  After a long wait, I turned off by pressing and holding the power button.  Two more attempts have produced same results.
Suggestions?
Many thanks,
Tom

Tom, welcome to the forum,
doesn't sound good   I guess you're also not seeing a message about interrupting the boot sequence by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button either?
I'd call sales and declare your T61 as DOA. You could try attaching an external screen and see if that works, not a solution I know. It sounds as the there is a problem with the GPU or cable.

Power your iPad off and on and/or do a reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.

    harix, welcome to the forum,
you do not state which notebook you have, this might be important. However, it may be that you just need to change your S-ATA settings in BIOS from AHCI to compatible mode.

  • Captivate 7 won't launch (Windows 7)

Having installed Captivate 7 (64-bit) on Windows 7, I've found the program won't actually open. Launching it asks for the Adobe ID, while the program flashes up for a second in the background. Having entered the ID, nothing happens. Trying to launch again just performs the same process, with the program itself never actually loading. Tried uninstalling and putting the 32-bit version on instead, but the same thing happens. This installation has been tried on three different computers (all Win 7), with the same result. Any thoughts as to what can be happening?

I have the 64 bit version and same problem.
It used to launch. Now my AVG anti-virus program says that at automatically-generated "CP" file in User > AppData > Local > Temp folder has "unknown" moderate risk and must be removed.
If I scan the folder with AVG, it doesn't find any threats. I have scanned it with a Microsoft tool too but it found no viruses. The file that seems to cause a problem is generated at the time of launch (must be the temporary Captivate file for the session about to begin).
I can only assume there is an incompatibility issue with a Windows 7 update. If everyone around the world suddenly has this problem, it's likely that, but I don't see many people on this thread.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Captivate (after asking Adobe if it would be ok, given that I can't open the program to deactivate the license first). Same problem after fresh installation from CD.
Adobe Captivate team - is anyone following this topic? Some input would be appreciated because the program was not cheap and I cannot find good support.

  • New user question--getting launch window when connected to iTunes

Hi--I'm rather new to the iPod/Apple world. I have an iPod Touch 8gb. I hope someone can advise me on how to get rid of this pop up window that keeps occurring.
In the last week or so, when I connect to iTunes to update my music, etc., I get this window that says this:
    Apple iPod
    Camera connected
Select the program to launch for this application
Then it gives me a list of various Windows programs to launch. I always select Cancel, because it doesn't make sense. It doesn't seem to affect any updating, it's just annoying.
This happened after my daughter uploaded some photos from her camera (Olympus). I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It's just so weird that it thinks my iPod is a camera!
Can someone tell me how to get rid of this window? If not, oh well, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. Thanks!

    Hello Beth,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
This usually happens when you have photos stored on your iPod. ePrhaps this Apple support document can assist you.

  • New computer won't launch iPhoto

Good day all. I just upgraded from an iBook G4 with 10.4.5 to a shiny new iMac with 10.6.6. The Migration Assistant did a nice job of moving all my files over, but there's an issue with iPhoto. When I launch it (or attempt to), it throws an error that says, "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. This library must be upgraded by the iPhoto Library Upgrader application before you can use it with iPhoto. Please reinstall iPhoto from your iLife disc."
Okay, no problem ... except I've done that at least 4 - 5 times, with no success. I removed the preferences files, too. No joy.
The Apple Store rep wants me to bring the machine in. I'd really rather not pack up the 27" computer I just bought and lug it back to the store if I can avoid it. Any better ideas?

What version of iPhoto are you running? You should be at 9.1.1 before trying to open and convert a library from an earlier version.
Open the Info window for the iPhoto Application and see what version it is. If it's not 9.1.1 download the necessary updater from Apple Downloads page, update and try again.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1175eo Won't launch windows

When i start the computer up i get to a screen telling me that windows had a problem being launched, and it gives me the option to start in fail-safe mode or start it normally. Neither options works. It's goes as far as showing the initial windows loading screen, but then the screen just goes black and nothing happens. I tried doing a harddrive test but it wouldn't go past 0% and gave an error message.
Could this be fixed by doing a system recovery?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

If you have received an error(303/301/3F0/Immenient HDD Failure/Smart DST Error) during Hard Drive Self Test, that confirms a hard drive failure, if covered under Warranty, you may contact HP and have the drive replaced, or purchase a new one.
The issue cannot be fixed by a System Recovery.

  • Brand new iWeb won't launch

I just purchased iLife '09, and according to the computer, it was "installed successfully". Unfortunately, when I attempted to launch it for the first time, I was confronted with the following error message:
    "Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2."
I went to my Application Support folder in Library, and there was no iWeb folder to be found! Is this supposed to be created when iLife is first installed, or what am I doing wrong here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Colin

I went to my Application Support folder in Library
That should be your Home/Library/Application Support folder.
First, delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try launching iWeb again.
    If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

          DISM.exe /Image:c:\offline /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
          /Source:c:\test\mount
    /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup [/ResetBase]
Use /StartComponentCleanup to clean up the superseded components and reduce

  • Itunes 12 won't launch, windows 7 64 bit

i had the previous version of itunes, as soon as i updated and opened itunes it opened a pop up box saying 'itunes has stopped working. a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. please close the program'. i have tried almost everything, hopefully, installing, reinstalling, checking for updates, changing user accounts, pening in safe mode, disabling internet, quicktime, removing all softwares relating to apple then reinstalling it, nothing is working, please help me find a solution for this.

You've possibly tried all of this, but just in case there is something that you've missed that I've noted down somewhere...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)

Is there an error message when you try to launch the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe)? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • Trying to reinstall appleworks 6.2.2 on windows 7 but it won't launch...Help!

recently bought a new PC, installed apple works but it won't launch - running windows 7. Tried installing in compatible mode using xp sp3, but that didn't work either.  Is it a hopeless case?

    Hello
I have installed it on a 32bit Win 7 installation with no problems. I dont think I even installed it in compatibility mode. I think I just ran the Windows installer and was done with it. Anyway, I know my reply is late, but if you still need help, go ahead and reply.

  • Itunes upgraded but won't launch with Windows 7

    Hi
I upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes 2 days ago (5 April 2010) and now iTunes simply won't launch at all. I have tried some of the remedies in the posts and have even tried a complete reinstall but iTunes still will ot launch.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I had the same problem: after updating to iTunes 9.1 (no errors) I just couldn't launch it. In Task Manager I saw that the iTunes process was running but it never really opened.
After nights of frustration of scanning the net for solutions I finally managed to get iTunes to run again.
    1) Firstly I deleted the new iTunes 9.1 and all programmes associated with it according to the directions given here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
It also mentions you should remove the Bonjour service but I could never make that work (no privileges or something like that).
    2) After that I reinstalled a previous version of iTunes. In this case 9.0.3.15. I got the download here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php
    3) Then I disabled the Bonjour service with the MSCONFIG method mentioned at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US
There they state that you should check which service clashes with Windows by trying to disable one service at a time. I found out pretty quickly that it was just the Bonjour service that caused the problems. All other services could run normally.
After the reboot iTunes finally started up again and I was able to restore my library.
Only thing is that I can not use the Remote App on my iPod Touch. That apparently required the use of Bonjour.
I hope this method helps for some of you!
    Cheers,
    Bart

  • ITunes won't launch in Windows 8

Recently bought a new laptop which came with Windows 8. I cannot get iTunes 11 to launch in Windows 8. Whenever I launch it, I simply get a completely white screen and Windows Task Manager reports it as "Not Responding." I have attempted to "Repair" the installation, uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes multiple times (I've also tried running Apple Software Update as well).
On a somewhat related note, Quicktime won't launch either. I can double-click the icon on the desktop as much as I want, but the program simply won't launch, at all. Windows Task Manager doesn't even display it as an active process.

If you are still having this problem, Sony Singh posted this fix in another conversation, and it worked!  I have the same Windows 8.1 and iTunes version you have and had the same problem.  This totally fixed it.
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Simple, huh?  Just reboot after youo copy and paste the above file.
