New tab brings up Bing Search, can't get rid of it?

All of a sudden whenever I click to open a new tab it brings up a bing search instead of the pinned tabs.

hello kbfoto615, you can either install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ searchreset addon] to get rid of the problem or manually reset the page that opens on each new tab: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.newtab.url''' and double-click & change its value to '''about:newtab'''.
if your manual changes don't 'stick' after a restart of the browser, please also look out for any suspicious extensions (like 3rd-party-toolbars or things you have not installed intentionally) presently installed under '''firefox/tools > addons > extensions''' or the programs section of the windows control panel and remove those entries.
in case this doesn't solve the issue either, please try this: go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder", then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.

• Clicking for a new tab brings up yahoo search instead of google as usual. What gives?

I always use fire fox and google is my home page. Today when i click to open a new tab instead of opening a google search page it opens a yahoo search bar. Google is my only search engine and I have no yahoo add-on. I have even blocked the site and it still pops up.

The "usual" action when opening a New Tab is to display a '''blank page'''. Something you installed changed that action, and it may not have the Yahoo name, so you need to figure out which addon did that change.

• MSN games set up my new tabs to open there , how do I get rid of it ?

Without asking me , MSN games set up Firefox new tabs to open up in their bing search page . How do I get rid of it ?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• When the initial page is closed and new tab is opened. How can I get back my google dropdown with previous searches.

When I double click my desktop icon Mozilla Firefox. It comes back with Firefox Start screen with google search. When you go to the rightside of the text box and left click. Its gives you a dropdown window with previous searches. When the google toolbar is on, if you click on a new search. It does give a google search text box, but the downdrop searches previously done is blank or no entry on the dropdown. Before once you click the new google search, the dropdown window is populated with previous searches. Its important for me to see previous searches I did. I hope you can help me. I appreciate your time. Thank you. Shurthg.

• In Modified Preferences I have a URL that keeps coming up as a search engine. I have deinstalled it and removed it from the Tabs and History. How can i get rid of this?

I accessed this site then decided it was not what I needed.
I De-installed it by going to my control panel and removing it.
I restarted my PC and it comes up as my home page. I deleted it from my History and recently visited sites. restarted my PC and it still comes up as the primary search engine as the opening page.

I was trying to set up my home page using my web settings. That did not work.
Set it up using foxfire. Works great.
Thanks.

• I installed Yealt and after unistalling it and removing ti from my computer, I still have a search bar tab in mozialla and I can't get rid of it.

The yealt website said I could remove it from the add-ons manager, but it is not showing up in the add-ons manager, even when I run a search for it.

• I have random spam sites opening up in tabs in firefox. I can't get rid of them. I have run Malwarebytes and Spybot, but they havent found the problem. I have even tried Rkill unsuccessfully. Please Help!

just ask!

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
• Brand new OS upgrade and I still can't get rid of

all of those crappy, redundant inboxes. Why Apply, why?
They're in the way.
They provide no advantage to many of us.
I always have to scroll past them to get to my actual email accounts.
Why Apple, why?

Understood, and that's my biggest complaint with apple, the lack of configuration in many places where it would be beneficial.
They should have added the switch when they added the feature, in the exact same way that they added the switches for both the calendar and the Notes application, and the archive messages feature. They rarely if ever admit mistakes, and even if they saw this lack of ability to disable the inboxes as a mistake, I don't imagine they will ever fix it. But I can still ask, and I can still raise it as an issue.

• How can I get rid of tabbed browsing? I positively hate it and none of the choices in tools get rid of them.

I was using an older version of FF because the newer versions had messed up private browsing and I had the option of deciding if I wanted tabbed browsing. I switched to a newer version because a lot of sites didn't work with the older version.
I went into tools - tabs and checked what I used to use not to get tabbed browsing. Doesn't work.
Please tell me how to get rid of tabbed browsing and how to switch back and forth to private and regular browsing without opening a new tab/window.
If I can't get rid of tabbed browsing I guess I'll muddle along with an older version.

Try to set the browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar pref to true on the about:config page.

If you want to have the window title bar visible then you can find that setting at the bottom of the customize window.
*3-bar Firefox menu button > Customize > Title Bar

Clicking the Firefox icon to open it is fine but if I open a new tab (Control T) it seems Yahoo carries out the search. How can I get rid of Yahoo? It's not in Tools Add-ons or Extensions and Windows control panel doesn't show Yahoo either.

whenever i am opening a new tab - yahoo search page is opening up. How can I get rid of this. I want a blank page to be open up instead of yahoo search page in new tab.

This might be a feature of the Yahoo toolbar. Can you live without it? To disable or remove the toolbar, use
Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category
After restarting Firefox, do new tabs become blank again?

• Opening new tab brings up an address for trovi, not blank - how do I make it come up blank?

Clicking on + for a new tab brings up new window with an address for "www.trovi.com/?gd=&ctid=CT3330390&octid=EB_ORIGINAL_CTID&ISID=ME5D94D35-C1CF-4725-BACA-FCAEC896C9CE&SearchSource=69&CUI=&SSPV=&Lay=1&UM=6&UP=SP21818293-AADF-4EE4-9545-1512CA471401" highlighted. How do I make it come up blank?

Hi Guido1197, the new tab page doesn't follow the home page. Here's how you normally change it:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
* ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
* ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
* ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
* ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
The problem is that a bad add-on will override the built-in setting, so usually you need to remove that first.

• When I close my browser a New Tab jumps up. How can I stop this?

When I close my browser, instead of closing, it shows a new tab not visible before. How can I get rid of this? I would just like to close it when I close it - without having to close it twice.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
'''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder
'''Linux:'''

* Xfce: Applications Menu category sections
* options depends on the package manager and the desktop environment
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.
