New tab issue!!

I am no expert with my mac so please forgive my non-technical language.
When using safari, not on every occasion but sometimes when I open a new tab instead of giving me my option of top sites in the 'new' tab it opens this in the tab I am already using!!
It doesn't do this all the time, sometimes it is frequent, sometimes not so frequent, but it's the ONLY real problem I ever have, frustrating when researching!
Help warmly recieved.
Thanks,
Luke.

Hi and welcome...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the General tab.
Click the pop up menu next to: *New tabs open with* and select TopSites
Click Tabs in the Preferences menu to view other tab options.
If TopSites was already selected from that popup menu, then try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari. (Command + Q)
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Now launch Safari. If tabs open like you want, move that .plist file to the Trash. Your Mac will ceate a new Safari.plist file for you the next time you launch Safari.

  • I am a new mac user and have a 15 macbook pro (non retina display).  I am having an issue with safari "freezing" ...it will work fine for a while and then I will open a new tab and attempt a website that won't load and after that it seems no website will.

So yes like mentioned above...i am a new mac user...have only had it about four days and have had a windows based system always before this.  The issue I am having is that I will be in safari and it will work perfect for a while and then i will open a new tab and attempt another website and it will either be extremely slow or will give the error that it cannot connect to the server, however, when i run diagnostics my internet is fine.  The only solution i have found is to reboot and geeksquad has been unable to replicate the problem while connected to my computer to try to do so.  Does anyone have any suggestions or anyone else with this problem?  If you have a "fix" please try layman's terms because again I have no idea about macs haha.  Thanks,

  • The botton to open a new tab is not working. How I can solve this issue?

the bottom next to the tabs, the one that opens a new tab fast is not working, also the ctrl+T keyboard command is not working also. The only way to open a new tab is right click on the mouse, but always on some link, I can not open a new blank tab.
    Thanks

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and the current version of Firefox.

  • New tabs vanish when I view another one, MOST URL's vanish after a second and that is a safety issue if you can see if you are on the right page!

A while ( couple weeks ) before the last update and change I noticed my URL's were vanishing a second after I arrived on a page. Not all URL's but most. This is a safety issue if I can't see I'm on the right page and have not been diverted.
ALSO, I can't copy them to send a link via email if they aren't there! I found a way in the old FF click down list, but even that feature is gone on this new version! This needs fixed at once.
AND when I make a new tab it vanishes! Or worse does not display like a tab. I can't go back and forth between pages if the tab vanishes. This started with the last FF update and change. This is poor design!!! When I updated the restore previous session grayed out. All my tabs were gone and I don't have them all in history. I was researching some things and it was important, now I can't remember them all. This is not a good thing!
Unless you pin all your tabs immediately they will vanish??????? Stupid design. It does not even show the new tab for THIS page!!! "but is does show your URL....hmmmmm"
What is the reason for having an arrow go through open tabs if they vanish???
PLEASE FIX THIS or I'll have to change browsers, I'll have no choice. How can you do anything if FF erases your URL's or tabs!

    Hey Fox1User,
Thank you for your message. I believe that this will happen when you have a dark theme applied to the new version of Firefox. It has been resolved in the 29.0.1 update that went out yesterday and would love to hear if this has improved the issue for you. I understand that the tabs are disappearing and it sounds like they may be blending into the tab bar.
However! if this is not the case, can you please show a screenshot of the tabs [[How do I create a screenshot of my problem?]] after trying to produce this in Safe Mode [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
I hope we find the culprit, looking forward to your reply.
I also noticed you have 4 versions of Flash installed.

  • FF 14.0.1, Multiple issues, new tab button broken, sites freeze, unstable, more..

I can't load the some random pages, the new tab button next to the farthest right tab clicks but does not open a new tab... <ctrl>+T does work still.
Pages that load in other browsers time out or otherwise fail to load since the 14.0.1 update.
    General instability of Firefox.
sometimes the browser is slow to load, even though there is no problem with the connection or site. (verified by quickly opening opera or chrome, loading the same page in those browsers while FF is still trying)
This is the saddest release of Firefox ever.
Please fix my browser of choice.
Opera looks better every day, as Firefox keeps getting worse.
I remember not to long ago when a running instance of Firefox was ~28MB of RAM, and even a slow leak would not top 100MB in a day's browsing....
Now it starts with several hundred MB's before the home page is even loaded...
    Sloppy.
Programmers thought they were slick and convinced Mozilla Foundation a bigger footprint would be more stable... look what's happened... more code to sift to even find problems..
I still need IETab v2 just to be able to use all sites I want.... hasn't Firefox got enough intelligence to figure certain code is used and switch to a different rendering technique?
At least we have IETab v2 when we need it.... it would be nice to not need an addon to make up for a lack of functionality in FF. (Yes, I know Microsoft uses non-standard HTML... and I also know after years of that same code being used that Firefox COULD see that and accept it as something that must just be accepted)
Those pages may not be in compliance with W3C standards, but who wants to live under a dictator anyway... deal with it.
Firefox keeps getting bigger and less desirable, with less reliability... Trim the fat... I'd take stability and reasonable functionality any day. I sorely miss FF 3.X...

    Hi,
Please try the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] feature via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''. Hopefully most of the issues will be solved.
(To revert to the previous profile you were using, close the new profile (i.e. exit Firefox), start Firefox and choose the '''Default User''' profile. While the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles Profile Manager] is open, you can also delete the newly reset profile (the one containing random numbers), or the former profile, as the case may be). If the reset is okay, it would be a good idea to delete the old profile as otherwise it would be left intact with the previous data until deleted.

  • When spanning new tabs (firefox) my users are asked to re-authenticate with pages already signed into. Can you tell me how to fix this issue for firefox users?

With some research I found regedit setting called “TabProcGrowth” that allows tabs to span without re-authenticating with certain browsers. Can you tell me how to fix this issue for my Mozilla Firefox users? Our current version of Mozilla Firefox is: 24.5.0 (x86 en-US). This was first noticed with a product called Confluence that we use in our Tech Support area. Users are having to reenter their password every time they click on a new link in confluence. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Hi Bernie:
As long as you are accessing your internal server on http:// or https:// then I would expect the normal rules to apply. To see whether some external requests are being blocked, you might try using Firefox's Web Console, Network tab.
You can open the console in the lower part of a tab using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+k
    * "3-bar" menu button > Developer > Web Console
    * (menu bar) Tools menu > Web Developer > Web Console
Click "Network" on the top bar of the Web Console.
Then use the address bar or a bookmark to launch Confluence in the same tab. Each request made by Firefox should be displayed along with the result. You can click a row for more details.
When I look up "TabProcGrowth" it seems related to the Protected Mode feature of IE8 and newer, which is not (yet) applicable to Firefox. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/askie/archive/2009/03/09/opening-a-new-tab-may-launch-a-new-process-with-internet-explorer-8-0.aspx
However, if Confluence is heavily reliant on plugins such as Flash or Java, that could be a factor because plugins are run out-of-process in Firefox. In that case I suggest checking with Confluence for suggestions.

  • [Xfce4] Issue with creating new tab in terminal

So, when I create a new tab in terminal I got a black rectangle in the top left corner of my screen it dimensions is like terminal window itself.
I have this problem on Xfce4 and Lxde as well.
What info do you need to help me with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Igor.

I noticed that problem with Xfce's terminal as well. I remember it also effecting firefox or other windows depending on how I moved things around.
I think I may have solved the issue by disabling Xfce's desktop effects, or something to that effect. I haven't seen the problem since I switched over to xmonad though.

  • Safari ios7 issues on iPad Air - can't open new tabs - + sign closes app

Safari ios7 issues on iPad Air - can't open new tabs or view other tabs.
The + sign just closes the app every single time!
In some cases, the back and forward buttons don't work.
It's driving me crazy becuase if the webpage I'm on opens and ad or tab that I don't want to look at, I can't close it and go back, I have to retype the web address in and find where I was on the site!

I, too, tried all the fixes...nothing worked.
Found another thread on this forum and looks like a lot of us are having same problem.
Next time it happens, go to SETTINGS/GENERAL/ABOUT and check to see it there is a "low memory" incident report.
    If there is:
See the discussion thread "iPad Air Low Memory Crashes".
Seems to be common....this could turn into a HUGH issue.

  • Has anyone had any issue with opening a new tab and the address bar not connecting to websites in 33.1.1?

I think ever since we moved to v33, I've been having an irritating issue that whenever I open a new tab that isn't connected to a website yet and try to enter a website address, it won't connect to ANY website. Doesn't matter if I hit Enter to try to make it go, doesn't matter if I click the right-pointing arrow button to make it go, doesn't work. I can go into a tab already connected to a website, type in a new website there and it'll create a new tab and take me to the new website, but not if I use new tab button.
Anyone else had this issue? Any fixes?

Sorry, that didn't help as I'm able to connect to websites, just not in a particular way.
For instance, I am able to type in and connect to websites IF the tab is already in use with a website (i.e. if I were to type "yahoo.com" in the address bar of this tab FF would open a new tab and take me to yahoo.com) but not when it is a completely new tab.

  • How can I resolve the issue new tabs are uneditable when playing pogo crossword cove?

Since updating to the latest release of Firefox 10.0 I am experiencing an issue when playing pogo.com's Crossword Cove embedded game. While the game is loaded in the browser window, I am not able to edit or enter any text on either a new tab or an existing tab. I can not enter search or address URL information. I do not have the problem outside of this game or with any other browser ( I have tested the latest versions of both IE and Google Chrome with no such issue). What can I do to resolve this fi.,

Do you have more than one OS on the Mac?
You may want to look at something like http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/. This has a Free Trial window, but it is a commercial application. If there are any heat/sensor issues, this may help.
A SMC Reset or PRAM/NVRAM reset may also help.

  • Google search page on the iPad, issues when you try to open a new tab. Anyone noticed this? It is a recent development. Does not happen on any other website.

Till recently there was no issue opening a new tab after doing a search on google for an issue. For the last ten days or so I am having this experience of inconsistency. Has anyone noticed it. On the other hand if I visit any other web pages it works smooth to open a new tab.

May be it is working fine for you. But then i am experiencing the issue again and again. someone else was also facing the same issue on another forum.

  • Upon upgrading to Firefox7 (Mac) my Wacom stylus button (latest driver) which is programmed to issue a Command modifier to open links in a new tab, though this has worked for years and still works in Safari, etc. Any ideas?

This issue just began with the FF7.01 but has always worked in previous versions. Yesterday I did install the FF7.0 and I don't recall experiencing the issue. Please note that it works correctly holding the actual command key, but no longer with the Wacom pen button held.
It was nice to always be able to use one hand to click and also make the decision about opening in a new tab or not.

Guys, I should wrap this up and let you all know so this page may help those experiencing the Firebug Context Menu Glitch. It's messed up, that was one of my favourite programs :(. Now looking for a version that doesn't do that.

  • Upgrading to Firefox 28 has given me issues opening new tabs. How do I fix this?

I'm on Windows 7 and regretting the fact that I downloaded Firefox 28. Before this, I had no issues at all. But now, if I go to File, then New Tab, nothing happens. If I click on the plus sign Open a New Tab button, nothing happens. Using CTRL + T doesn't work either. However, if I exit Firefox entirely and open it right back up, several new blank tabs appear. The only working way to open up a new tab is by using the right click menu. How do I fix this?
    Thanks!

  • "Open link in new tab" not working with Safari and new Yahoo Mail won't open in new tabs.  Yahoo says it is a Safari issue.  I don't think so.

    Any ideas?
Works fine in classic Yahoo mail.  But in the "new" Yahoo mail, there is not even an option to open in new tab when I right click the message to be opened.  Interestingly enough, I can right click open to new tab on any other link on the same page that the emails are listed in.
Anyone encounter this?  Have a solution?
    Thanks.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try Yahoo / tabs. If it functions as it should, move the .plist file to the Trash. Otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari. Try again.
