New tab page image is gone

I have an image that is a part of my add ons when I open new tabs but when I opened a new tab I accidentally clicked a option on the search engine box and now I have blank page when I open a new tab. I would like to get that image back as well as the search engine box

Sounds that you have reset Firefox and created a new profile.

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

• New tab page was fine for MONTHS, had an image I uploaded. Today, I got a 'safe' mode whatever, and my image is gone. How do I restore it, so my image comes up?

I had set up my new tab page with an image I uploaded. It worked fine for months, if not years.
Today, I got a 'crash' that asked me to start Firefox in 'safe' mode or 'restore'. I chose 'restore'.
Thereupon, my image was gone from my new tab page. I cannot find how to restore it, and add ons that supposedly allow me to add my own image are not helpful. At least, I cannot figure them out.
Can you provide help on a computer for dummies level?

• Website images in New Tab page are gone (except for one). I followed the Help directions to restore them. Nothing happened. They are still gone.

All but one of the images on the 'new tab' page are gone. I followed the FFox Help directions exactly & repeatedly. Nothing happened. The images are still gone. Restarting the computer did not help either.
I have Windows Seven.

The thumbnails on the about:newtab page are generated from the cache, so if the page is not in the cache or otherwise can't or won't (secure pages) be rendered as a PNG image then you will get an empty box.
*Do not use Clear Recent History to clear data like the cache and the history when you close Firefox
If there is no history then you get an about:newtab page with empty boxes (no URLs).

• How to manually change the thumbnail images of the new tab page (without using addons)?

I wanted to customize the images displayed on the thumbnails on the New Tab Page. I tried using the addon "New Tab Tools" to do so and it worked, for a while. Now a bug seems to have affected it (it is not displaying any thumbnails, so I uninstalled it). So I want to try another approach. I want to MANUALLY change the images for each of the thumbnail on the new tab page (of course, the thumbnails are 'pinned').
(I read some other articles related to thumbnails, specifically about DELETING them, and it asked me to open the Firefox Profile Folder, and in there, delete the thumbnails folder. I thought I could simply change the images stored in it instead of deleting them, but there is NO thumbnails folder in the Firefox profile folder (I accessed the profile folder thru the troubleshooting information section in the help menu). So where is this thumbnails folder after all?)
So, how can I do it?
Thanks in advance.

I note you are using Icedragon 26. Not sure I have come across that before.
I guess they provide their own support, as they are apparently offering something based on an outdated and unsupported Firefox26. I see their forum has threads on Icedragon if you search for them, but at a quick glance I see no specific topic

You could always install an official and up to date Firefox 29
* See [[How to download and install Firefox on Windows]]
* Download from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
You may note the New Tabs page may be subject to a few changes over coming versions of Firefox it is apparently being improved. Firefox itself as Fx29 is also slightly changed from Fx26

• My backround on the new tab page is gone. The boxes are there but I mean the actual background. It went away after updating an I wanna fix it.

After updating my Firefox, the background for my new tabs page is gone. The boxes are there. But the rest of the screen is just plain white and I dont know how to fix it.

The background on my new tabs page is white - actually bright grey, which is evidently the default. For changing colors used see
[[Change the fonts and colors websites use]]
Check the '''Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above.''' If unchecked, so only boxes without any content are shown.

• "Open in New Tab" for Images in 10.1.0.273 Browser

Good Day Sirs.
I updated to OS 10.1.0.273 on my Z10 yesterday, and noticed that the "Open in New Tab" side-tab/option is gone when selecting images.
This is also inconvenient as I browse image-boards where I usually open multiple topics/pages from a list of images representing the respective topics/pages.
Anyone experiencing the same?
Or would anyone know if I just missed some browser settings? (tried checking these, didn't find a clue)
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I confirmed it with the same website I frequent. I was previously able to open in new tab any images, without switching from my current active tab.
Just like in this very Web page, I can open in new tabs the links above: "Forums" and "Knowledgebase"... while I don't have the option to open in new tab from the image "BlackBerry Support Community Forum" at the top-center of this page.
I only have the options:
Copy Image Link
Save Image
View Image
Share
Also, before 273 I was able to open images in place of pages on new and separate tabs. In that website, their index/catalog of topics are represented by image posts. The same page I mentioned above.

• On Firefox 13 the new tab page boxes are blank no matter how many times I visit a website

I downloaded firefox 13 about a week ago and when I open a new tab the boxes that are supposed to display your most visited webpages don't work, if you go to your bookmark that says "Most Visited" that displays my most visited webpages fine but none of the pages show up on my new tab page. Also if I click and drag one of the websites into the boxes the website name appears but it never loads any picture for the website.
If I don't click and drag the website to one of the boxes then the box is empty....there is no website, nothing. But I've gone to plenty of sites plenty amount of times and it is not showing up
http://i.imgur.com/TWmAU.png --- Here's a image of what I see (to clear up any confusion)

I tried starting it in safe mode and it still wasn't working so I reset firefox back to default everything and the new tab page seems to work now.

• When I start mozilla or open any link in a new window I get the desired page to load but an additional new tab page opens up along with it, fix?

When I start mozilla or open any link in a new window I get the desired page to load but an additional new tab page opens up along with it. I've tried switching my homepage to different things (new tab, firefox home, show blank page) but I always get an additional new tab to open. How do I get only a single page to open?

Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
'''For Firefox versions previous to 29.0:'''
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox"[[Image:Button reset]] button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
'''For Firefox 29.0 and above:'''
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"[[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

• The pinned and unpinned pages on the "new tab" page are glitchy as hell.

When I try to move ANY of the pinned of unpinned pages on the "new tab" page, all of them go off their grid and move spastically as I try to pin a page to a certain spot. It's really hard to describe. I already opened and closed firefox, but that didn't solve the problem. Hell, I even updated Firefox with the most recent update, but it's still doing it. I managed to get my tabs where I want them, but if I want to add another it's going to be nearly impossible because the bottom line of the grid is completely beyond reach.

Hi KRenee, Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window as follows:
#* Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#In the Firefox Options window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. '''Uncheck''' this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Thank you.

• How do I keep the new tab page thumbnails visible even after deleting my browser history?

Every time I delete my browser history, I notice thumbnails of my pinned sites on the new tab page disappear. Is there a way around that; or something that can be done so it doesn't occur in future versions of Firefox?

Current Firefox versions use a separate thumbnails folder to store those images, so clearing the cache should no longer make them disappear.
However clearing the history will prevent any slots from retaining the URL.
If you want specific pages to show on the about:newtab page then you can drag a bookmark or history link into a slot to pin a web page.
Do any of the slots have an URL displayed under the image placeholder?

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Cache because Firefox will disable the disk cache in such a case
*do not clear the Browsing History
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

• New tab page shows tiled and poorly sized thumbnails

Just upgraded from 12 to 13, new tab page looks awful. Most of the images show tiled versions of the webpages, with about 1.8 copies of each page horizontally and 1.5 vertically in each image.

Hiya! First Off: I Love Your Work! Firefox is great and thank you for giving it to us :)
I'm having the same problem listed above. Disabling hardware accelaration did not fix it. I'm on Firefox 13, Linux - Beefy Miracle. I'm including a screenshot.
Any suggestions?
oh, quick side note: Window's users get a cool orange Firefox badge to the left of the tabs... linux users just get a plain text Firefox link. Can't wait to get the attractive aesthetics made available to windows' users!

• My new tab page is missing and now when I type about:newtab in the Awesome bar I get a page called about:about. Help!!

I use to have the grid of pinned webpages whenever I clicked on the X of a new tab page. Now it's gone. I figured out if I typed about:newtab in the Awesome bar it would restore the page, but not all the time. Now when I type about:newtab in the Awesome bar I get a page called about:about...and I don't want that. How can I get my pinned websites back on my New tab page?

• New Tab Page is... broken?

The image previews for my tops sites are.... ugly. And I mean really, really ugly. Terrible. Absolutely disgusting. The resolution is horrendous, it looks like they're pictures taken with a potato. I recently updated to the latest version of Aurora on my work PC and was thrilled to see the new tab page in action and was excited to update on my home PC as well, but when I did.... So blurry. So very blurry.

Well, keep in mind that Aurora is more oriented towards developers, software testers and early adopters. You will experience some bugs with it.
You might want to download the latest Firefox Nightly at nightly.mozilla.org, then test using Nightly to see if your issue has been fixed. If it hasn't, you can file a bug on it at bugzilla.mozilla.org, assuming you're comfortable filing bugs.

• Preview Thumbnails on New Tab page empty only for certain URLs

When I open a new tab, there are three certain preview thumbnails which are always empty, and there is no way I can make them show up again. They did work in the beginning, but at some time the three previews vanished and never came back.
I have already tried to empy the cache and reload the sites as suggested here, but the thumbs are still empty. It's always the same three URLs where this happens. I have also cleared the history, opened the sites again and dragged the items from the history menu into a thumbnail - same result.

The pages may be send by the server with a no-cache or no-store header preventing Firefox to store that pages in the cache.
Firefox will only generate thumbnails if the page is in the cache.
