New tab shows no previous sites.

Up until the other day, when I clicked on the "new tab" plus, I would see pictures of recently opened sites.. Now the new tab is blank. What happened? I want the history back.

Do you have the Google Toolbar?

  • New tabs are not updating the names of the sites they have loaded. When I open a new tab and load a site, the tab simply stays named "New Tab". When I open a link in a new window, it shows "Connecting..." even while its fully loaded.

  • Why did they take away the "Open In New Tab"option in Top Sites, Bookmarks, and History?

Why did they take away the "Open In New Tab"option in Top Sites, Bookmarks, and History? This very annoying.

Seriously - what could they have possibly been thinking? Mozilla, please tell us this was some kind of mistake. Accessing our bookmarks in FF-mobile is just plain bad as a user experience. And now without "Open In New Tab" we are supposed to drill down to our bookmarks for every tab we want to open? FF-mobile is almost useless without "Open In New Tab". Please restore "Open In New Tab" for bookmarks, thanks.

Unfortunately I believe this is a Google Toolbar problem. See https://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?answer=115561
I used the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to enable Google Toolbar in Firefox 5 (there's a thread all about that at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837349). But the "Enable the Google new tab page" option no longer appears in the search tab on the Google Toolbar Options.
Guessing that's a compatibility issue, but who knows. Undoubtedly there will be finger pointing before it all shakes out in the end.

  • I opened a new tab, clicked a bookmarked site FF closed all other tabs, why?

This morning I had 4 tabs open. I clicked to open a new tab and then clicked a bookmarked site on my bookmark toolbar. Firefox 21.0 closed the other 4 tabs and displayed the site I was attempting to open in the new tab. Why did this happen?
I have Windows 7HP X64 SP1, fully updated. Also have the trouble of not being able to update the Google Earth plugin that has not worked properly for the last week. The currently installed Google Earth Plugin is version 7.0.3.8542. February-26-13. When I clicked to check the plugins are up to date Firefox says the plugin needs to be updated, but the update button links back to itself and does not update the plugin. Interestingly it does not appear in the list Firefox automatically added below.
Are these 2 problems related?. I have scanned the computer with Avast Free latest version - full scan. And with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Sophos Virus removal tool. 2 days ago Avast Free put up a red warning that I had clicked an infected link and it had saved my computer from crashing. Also asked me if I wondered why I had an infected system. Nothing showed up in any of the scans, all 3 reported my system clean.

Thank you so much cor-el that worked to enable me to update the Google Earth plugin. I disabled it in IE too before clicking the link just in case that made a difference. Then read further down on the page that I could have uninstalled it through programs and features. All working now.
As for the tab problem, seems my computer was infected with something. Yesterday after having problems logging in and my internet connection failing intermittently I booted in safe mode with networking and ran Combofix and it seems to have solved the other problems. If I could understand the report it spat out when it finished cleaning my computer I would have an idea of what the infection was.

  • Is there a way to open new tabs on the same site without having them go to a new window?

i like to go to article sites and open up many tabs where each tab is a new article. this allows me to quickly go from one article to the next. when i try to do this with the new firefox it opens the new tabs in a new window because they are from the same site. is there any way for me to turn that feature off?

Do you mean the Switch to Tabs kicks in if you enter an already opened URL?

  • How to open a bookmark folder in new tabs without removing previously opened tabs ?

I love Safari, I think it's the smoothest experience on a Mac. However, not being able to open multiple tabs at once without overwriting my previous ones is a deal breaker. I know you can click the back button to restore previous tabs but then the new ones are gone.
Is there a way to open a bunch of new tabs at once and keep the ones I already have open ?

    Hello CommeLeMois,
You should be able to open links in new tabs by holding the Command key (⌘) and clicking on the link. Check in Safari Preferences and looked and the Tab section to see if you have the right behavior enabled.

  • Why don't the new tabs show the "normal" tiles page?

    dear mr. or mrs. support,
i have recently bought a new laptop. i synced it up with my old one but for some reason whenever i open an empty new tab it opens on a page of the bing searchengine which is something i never asked it to do. i can't change this in the preferences and i am sure that nothing i can change in the preferences i think should realate to this as well as in the addons and plugins that i can reach as a layman, differs from those of my old laptop. stil all empty tabs open on the bing search.
the laptop is an acer which might be relevant as the URL opening in every new tab is: homepage-web.com/?s=acer&m=tab
so yea acer's pretty much involved in this.
oh and according to mcaffe the site is untrustworthy/unsecure so thats good.
I'd really like to get rid of this as it cuts down considerably on my browsing speed and makes me feel slightly soiled by bing and other affiliated parties. As such i would be dreatly appreciative of your help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon

    hi mr. zephisto :-)
this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc, so please perform the following steps:
#please install the search reset addon - it will revert the most common customizations those adware programs do in firefox back to the default: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
#go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
#also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
#finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner], which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.

  • I do not have the "new Tab" showing alongside my exsisting Tab(s) How do I get it back?

I cannot open a new Tab because the "New Tab" is not showing alongside my existing Tabs.
I can open a new tab with crtl T and by going File - New Tab.
    I am running latest Firefox.
I think this problem occurred when it updated from the beta 5 that I was running.
Beta 5 was removed because it did not return me to my home page on restarting. It brought up my last visited page

Firefox is customizable, you can drag the new tab button from one toolbar to another or return it to the customize dialog box. When on the Tabs Bar bar it looks like a Plus sign with a black "+", when on the navigation bar it looks like a white "+" and a black background of filing cabinet folder. Look at the [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/icons/fx4toolbars.png Before/After] customizations of my own toolbars. I think you have the new tab button next to the tabs but with tabs bar on top it is so confusing.
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)]

  • I am using Firefox 3.6 on my PC , and now, when I select File New Tab (Ctrl+T), no new Tab shows up. Nor does it show up when I click the new Tab symbol next to my other tabs. How can I get the New Tab feature to work again?

In the past 48 hrs, all of a sudden, the New Tab feature on my PC< using Firefox 3.56, simply stopped working. I did not change settings, or download a new version of Firefox. it just stopped working. There are other scenarios where it does still work (for example, if I want to open a link on a web page, I can right click and open the link in a new tab), but if I simply want to have multiple websites open at once on my PC, I am forced to have multiple versions of Firefox open, as my New Tab option seems to be disabled or something. Can you help?

Leliforever, cheek you list of installed add-ons, the Ask toolbar can be installed without the users knowledge.
For checking other extensions that may cause this, follow the procedure in this link - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

  • Address bar doesn't display correct link when I open a new tab from a previous page, it displays the linkof the original page

from a web page, right click on a link+open a new TAB. the link correctly opens in a new tab, but it is not displayed in the address bar.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holidng the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />
    2. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.''

  • When i open a new tab, a bing search site pop up instead of a blank tab. how do i get rid of that?

So i just downloaded CDisplay and thats when it started. So i was wondering if there's an easy way to get rid of the bing search when i click on a new tab

Clearing the cache fixed this for me. Before doing this though, I HIGHLY recommend booting into safe mode (assuming you are using Windows) and run the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php].
UPDATE: Well...that worked for a while. That page is back. I still recommend scanning your machine if you have not yet done so.
UPDATE 2: I've found that the application causing the issue is "Cartoonly", which you should see as an extension. You can't remove it from Firefox, you can only disable it. Search your entire computer for "Cartoonly" (even if you have ran MBAM as suggested above) and delete EVERYTHING having to do with that garbage. Your new tabs should be clean and the extension should be gone as well. :)
