New Tabs are not opening

After upgrading to Firefox 4, I had problems loading son my educational websites. So I decided to downgrade to 3.6.6. After 2 days of downgrading, I can't open new tabs. I press the + button, but nothing happens.
Can someone help me with this please?
Michael

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Well, it is showing as being install in the version of Firefox that you posted here with.

• New tabs will not open despite installing the add on

Hey! Have I disabled new tab opening somehow? Have looked throughly through menu bars, also installed the suggested add on (new tabs at the end), but the + button to the right of open tabs won't open a new one, nor will ctrl+t or right click new tab. Can right click a link and open it in a new tab. Been a problem for a few months... about time I sought some advice :)
Cheers, Katrina

• A new tab will not open when i select the division symbol

when i select the division symbol at the end of my tabs a new tab no longer opens... it has done previously... how do i get this functionality restored?

Caused by the Ask Toolbar extension in Firefox 3.6.13, disable that extension or un-install it.

• A new tab will not open except will when I use Foxfire help. Nothing works. My setting are to open new tabs but it doesn't work. Why?

Foxfire won't let me open a new tab. I have my setting set to open a new tab. I've clicked on it and nothing happens. I've right clicked and selected open new tab and nothing happens. When I go to Foxfire for help it will open a new tab for help. When I try to use this tab to browse, anything in the other window gets shut down.

1. In the Tools menu select Add-ons to open the add-ons manager.
2. In the Add-ons manager select the Extensions panel
3. In the list of Extensions click on Ask Toolbar, then click the Uninstall button
4. Restart Firefox and the Ask toolbar will be uninstalled.
I found this solution and it worked!

• New tabs do not open with middle mouse in Windows, but not Linux

I've seen this bug reported a few times already, but none of them seem to have resolved the issue (at least for me).
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T510 currently running two operating systems on separate partitions (Windows 7 and Fedora 20). Firefox is my default browser in both operating systems and both are up to date. Both browsers are using the same plugins and extensions as well (which is essentially nothing because I just performed a clean install of both OS's).
Now, I should be clear that I'm using the laptop's built-in touch-pad/track-point for mouse navigation and not an external mouse.
Interestingly, when I click the middle mouse trackpad button on a link to open a new tab, it works under Fedora, but not under Windows. I've checked the about:config already and ensured that they too are identical in regards to middle mouse button settings.

Does it work with an actual mouse?
On Linux those prefs are true by default.
*[http://kb.mozillazine.org/middlemouse.paste middlemouse.paste] is about pasting text from the clipboard in a text area
*[http://kb.mozillazine.org/middlemouse.contentloadURl middlemouse.contentloadURl] is about opening an URL from the content area in a new tab
*[http://kb.mozillazine.org/middlemouse.scrollbarPosition middlemouse.scrollbarPosition] is about middle-clicking on the scroll bar to jump to a specific position.

• When I click on the "New Tab" button, or try to open a new tab through the "File Pull Down" Menu, a new tab does not open. How do I fix this?

I cannot open new tabs. The new tab button, new tab option on the file menu and the new tab option when I right click on the tab all do not work. This started when I updated Firefox Yesterday. It is becoming annoying when trying to work with multiple tabs open. How can I fix this?

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and the current version of Firefox.

• When I click on a link the new tab does not open chosen link, it opens a different link entirely

This has been a problem for a month. Before that it was never an issue. If I do a web search, find what I want then click on that link the new tab that opens is the selected link--it is something else entirely. I like Firefox and want to continue using it as my browser but I am not having the problem with Chrome at all so I think it is something with Firefox settings and not my computer a virus of some kind...but then I don't know much about these things.

You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
