New to all of this - questions before beginning a large vacation project

I converted mgp video files using Mpeg Streamclip from a 6 week vacation creating .mov files totally 550GB. I need to get them off of my internal 1TB drive and exclude them from time machine backups. I plan to move them to a WD 1TB external drive I have been using for Time Machine and have just received a new WD 2TB external for time machine.
Questions are:
1. Is it true that these files will remain unchanged during work on project and as long as I still have the original mpg files there would be no need to back them up with time machine?
2. I have no idea how much extra space will be needed to complete this large project. Would it be possible for me to break the trip into segments with separate sequences or would it be better to create new projects for each of these segments?
3. If I create separate movies for each segment - is it possible to include individual movies on one DVD?
4. There seems to be some disagreement on discussions if there is any need to format the new 2T My Book Studio Edition II drive or just hook up and use.

Why not put them into a separate folder then exclude the folder from your TM backup? That's the simplest solution.
You should check how the new drive is actually partitioned and formatted. Use Disk Utility to check this. The drive should be partitioned GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) If that's not the case then you should prep the drive as follows:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

If the video is already on a DVD:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

Help Me I Am New To All Of This!

I have had an interest in video editing ever since I got my first Mac 4 years ago. I have a friend that wants to see if I can take 2 video clips that are on dvd's and put them together. I would love to learn how to do this since I am very active in my local church here and we are trying to do lots of new things with video. What do I need to get started and what is it going to cost me. Go easy on me, I don't know all the tech terms, very new to all of this. I have done some projects in iMovie with still photos and one project using a ditigal camera that I put a short film together, turned out ok, but would like to do things better. I will stop rambling now. I lied, one more question, is there a class anywhere on the net to learn these things or even a place to take a class somehere in the Chicagoland area. I have gone to some classes at the downtown store, but that was just enough to make me want more. Thanks!!

Ok, let me just stink to the most important need at hand.
I have two video clips that are on DVD's that I want to be able to edit and put together as one video clip. Is there a way to pull the video from the DVD's and edit them in iMovie. I know that I either need additional software or maybe even some hardware. I don't even know where to start.
The final project I want to be able to put together for this friend so that she can use it to show for fund raising for a child care agency here in my town.

When I got the error, I realized it had nothing to do with RAM, I believe it was the camera footage I was using because changed the settings on my camcorder to something iMovie didn't like. So I have changed it back and its fine now.

When you connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes you will see the iPod in the source list to the left, under DEVICES. To the LEFT of your iPod you should see a gray arrow, if you click on it so that it points downward you will be able to see what you've synced to your iPod. (You will see "Music" below the iPods name once you've clicked on the arrow) If you click on Music, below the iPod you are able to click on any songs you don't want and hit "Delete" on your keyboard.
Make sure to click on the song to highlight it and then hit delete.

I have done this, and just to test I bounced the song that has the AI's and waves to Song01. Then I bounced the each channel to an audio file from that Arrangement.
I opened a new template, added the audio files from the previous bounces. Then I bounced that Arrangement and named Song02.
Took both bounces and put into a new arrangement i.e Song01 on channel 1, and Song02 on channel 2. I added a gain Plug-In to Channel 1 and inverted phase. I could still hear my song. I wonder what is up with that?

What version of iOS do you have on your iPad (Settings > General > About > Version) ? Depending upon the version that you have you may have a Settings > General > Use Side Switch To setting on your iPad :
In the above image the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume control will rotation lock - so putting that side switch 'on' on the side of your iPad will give you an image of 'rotation lock' in the middle of your iPad's screen for a second or so :
and you should get a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator, and putting the switch 'off' will give an unlocked image in the middle of the screen :
and the lock symbol will disappear from the top of the screen.
If you have the 'mute' option ticked on the above image then you will get a bell icon with/without a line through indicating whether you've muted/unmuted notifications.
As there is only one side switch and 2 things that it could control, the function that the switch isn't controlling (i.e. the unticked option in my first image on this reply) will be controlled (if your iPad is on iOS 5 or 6) via the left-hand end of the iPad's taskbar (double-click the home button to open the taskbar and the slide that taksbar to the right), or (if your iPad is on iOS 7) via Control Centre (swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open it)

Generally the limit is two, but it can be more if you sign out of the others you aren't using.

I have already posted this question once already but I can't find it! I'm using a Mac, using OS 10.4.11, I keep getting notifictions to upgrade to 3.6.22, however, your site says that they are NOT compatible; what doI do now?

I did ask this question before, about a week - week and a half ago. However, it had not received any answers after about 4 days. My browser crashed and I lost the page!
Anyway, I keep getting notifications indicating that I need to download update 3.6.22. This site says that it is NOT to be used with OS X 10.4.11. So, what's the real deal? can I, better yet - should I download and use 3.6.22?
Additionally, what are we supposed to do when, as the notification on this site states, that 3.6 is only temporary, when it is what taken out of usability status? ?
I'm running a G4 DP, 500 MHz, with 512 MB RAM. I'm using an Earthlink dial-up account.

Yup, your question and Diane's answer helped me also. Tho' I had had problems before getting into the iTunes store I always managed to find a way. Today they had me blocked cold with the "Update to 10" advert no matter what I did. Other questioners are being told, incorrectly as it turns out, that they have to update their OS to accomodate iTunes 10 and upgrade to iTunes 10. I did the download which did not take up much more room on my crowded old hard drive and now I'm back in business.

Can anyone answer this question regarding MAX RAM?

My old iMac SE DV graphite was purchased and delivered in January, 2000. The original order catalog (which I kept) claimed that it was "expandable to 512mb", as were all the 400mhz G3 slot-loading DV models in various 'flavors' including my Graphite Special Edition model. Also, both / all versions had the ATIRage 128 accelerator with 8mb SDRAM.
The only differences I can discern are that my Graphite has more ram (128mb) and had a slightly bigger hard drive (13GB on the graphite vs 10GB for the 'fruit').
Note: I have since replaced the hard drive with a 20GB since the original died within the first 2 years.
Also, I am running in 10.3.9 most of the time but still have OS 9.2.2 in the machine.
On this disussion site and other places (including MacWorld articles) I've seen conflicting statements as regards the MAXIMUM RAM my graphite should/could have. Some say 1GB (2x512) and some say 512 (2x256).
Can anyone once and for all, settle this question for me so that I can make an intelligent purchase?

Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

Yes, it will do a full backup.

Only if you want to be able to go back in time to those previous Time Machine backups. When you plug in the new larger external drive, you will only be able to go back as far as the first day you plugged it in and ran the first Time Machine backup on it.
