New to apple- How to allow access to location?

I set up an apple id... but am unable to use "find my iPhone," mapquest, shopping apps.. The apps don't have access to "my location." I may have set as private somehow?? I am new to apple. Any help?

Does the Map app show your correct location?
Does you correct location show when connected to other networks?
For location the iPod uses the location nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's data base. You do not have to be connect to the router.
Thus, it may be that the router the iPod is using does not have the correct location in Apple's database. Apple continuously updates their database based on data it obtains from iPhones. No one has found a way to tell apple to correct/add a wifi router to their database.

You have to be in a country to use its store - you will need to be in the US and have a US billing address on your account to be able to use the US store (that applies to buying and redownloading).
You can use iTunes Match in South Africa, do you not have a backup copy of all of your US iTunes purchases so that you can subscribe to it and upload those that aren't in the South African store to it ?

    --break--
So we are entirely new to Apple products. I'm an IT guy, but have always been a windows user.
So the Ipad with Retina Display is to be mine (and will use it at work for notes, organization, etc)
The MINI is for the wife.
But, are we allowed and can we.. buy an app and share that app between both devices? IE. Can I buy a copy of Angry Birds for the House and both Ipad's use that single purchase? and if so, can we still run the Ipads seperate other than to share the apps purchased. IE my facebook and email set up on mine and hers on her ipad mini?
When I finally find a note taking app I like, can I share it on her ipad, without her having all my work files, etc?
Thanks for helping out the apple noob. Hoping for a great experience, and anticipate droping $100 in apps the first day.. just don't want to do that twice. If this is against the usage policy, thats unfortunate but good to know. (I mean we can share stuff on PC as long as its in the same household)
thanks again (explanations or links are fine)

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

  • How to allow access only from certain IPs?

I have Portal Server 6.0 on Sun ONE Web Server and want to allow access to it only from certain IPs, i.e. if my IP differs from predefined, then access is denied (no page is opened).
How can I implement this with minimal efforts?
    Thanks in advance!

Where did you set the ACLs?
When webclients connect direct to the portal/ids this is pretty straight forward using htttpacl files. When SRAP GW's are used for Internet portal access the web or app-server never sees the client IP thus those ACLs don't get applied.
Am I missing something (won't be the first time... or the last:-)

Recently had a PC crash. All data and information on hard drive was saved and reinstalled in new PC as a local drive. How do I access the saved music library that exsists onwhat is now a local drive in the new PC. My itunes account only shows purchased songs. I know my saved library is here, but I can't figure out how to access and get the saved library on itunes.

Locate the iTunes folder from the user profile on the rescued drive, typically at X:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes. Delete the "empty" iTunes library from your current User's Music folder and copy in the originial library in its place.

  • How to allow access to winrs for non-admin user?

I have Windows Server 2012 (and Server 2008, but it is next priority) to monitor it using txwinrm. txwinrm library internally is using WinRS protocol. I have to monitor it using least privileged user, but don't know how to configure access for him.
All I managed to do - is to configure remote Powershell session for my user, but it's look like that winrs and powershell sessions have different security descriptors:
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName 192.168.173.206 -Credential (credential Administrator $pwd) -ScriptBlock { 2 + 2}
    # gives 4
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName 192.168.173.206 -Credential (credential lpu1 $pwd) -ScriptBlock { 2 + 2}
    # gives 4
    winrs -r:192.168.173.206 -u:Administrator -p:$pwd 'powershell -command "2+2"'
    # gives 4
    winrs -r:192.168.173.206 -u:lpu1 -p:$pwd 'powershell -command "2+2"'
    # Gives Winrs error: Access is denied.
Configuration for my user is following:
    (Get-Item WSMan:\localhost\Service\RootSDDL).value
    # O:NSG:BAD:P(A;;GA;;;BA)(A;;GA;;;S-1-5-21-3231263931-1371906242-1889625497-1141)S:P(AU;FA;GA;;;WD)(AU;SA;GWGX;;;WD)
    (Get-PSSessionConfiguration -name Microsoft.Powershell).SecurityDescriptorSddl
    # O:NSG:BAD:P(A;;GA;;;BA)(A;;GA;;;S-1-5-21-3231263931-1371906242-1889625497-1149)S:P(AU;FA;GA;;;WD)(AU;SA;GXGW;;;WD)
(In each security descriptor my user is given general access to protected object).
So what security descriptor should I set to make my winrs query work for non-admin user?

    Hi Bunyk,
I can not recreate the erroe you posted, and please also post the screenshoot in your convenience.
I tested with a non-domain user but has the local admin permission of the remote computer, and this worked, before running the remote cmdlet in powershell, I also configured the TrustedHosts.
In addition, the access denied could be also caused to the Protocol Filtering on the remote server, for more detailed information, please refer to this thread:
    winrs error:access is denied
    I hope this helps.

  • New server with same software allows access to private files

I purchased a new mac mini with Snow leopard server software and had the Apple Store transfer data from the old server (also Snow leopard) to the new mini. The server only stores files at this time and acts as a Central File Server. Before the transfer, we had individual file folders on the server which were accessible only by the owner of that folder. Now, however, the folders are all open to anyone who has access to the Central File Server. How can I limit access to each one of the six personal folders on our Central FIle Server?

Check the permissions settings on the folders in Server Admin. My first guess is that the "Others" permissions are set to Read Only or Read and Write.

  • How to allow access to web service running under ApplicationPoolIdentity

    Hi All,
I have a WCF web service hosted in IIS 7 (or maybe 7.5, whichever comes with Windows server 2008 R2) using DefaultAppPool running under ApplicationPoolIdentity per Microsoft's recommendation. The web service needs to call a stored procedure to insert data
to a db. The web server is on a different VM than the database server. The db server is running SQL 2008 R2. Both VMs run Windows server 2008 R2.
When the web service tries to connect to db, it encounters this exception:
Exception in InsertToDb()System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
       at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
Here's the connection string in web.config:
    Application Name=somewebservice;Server=somewebserver;Integrated Security=SSPI;Database=somedatabase;Connection Timeout=60"
How should I configure SQL security to make this work?
    Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for the link Dan. Maybe I'm the one who cause the confusion :)
If I understand you(and Erland) correctly, you suggest using a custom, domain account for application pool identity. However, if we do that, our IT will need to maintain those accounts, and they don't  want that. So I'm choosing a built-in account called
ApplicationPoolIdentity as the application pool identity, but it's not working. Network Service, on the other hand, works, but my boss wants us to follow MS's best practice.
What's puzzling is that according to this: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/624/application-pool-identities/, both Network Service and ApplicationPoolIdentity uses machine account to access network resource (like db in this case), but in my case, Network Service
    works, but not ApplicationPoolIdentity.
    Hallo Stephen,
with respect - it seems to me that only idiots are working at your IT ;)... It is absolutely useful to work with "service accounts" created within the domain. That's the only way to manage and control accounts!
If you want to "pass through" the identity of the web user (SSO) you have to check whether the app pool is set to "allow impersonate". As far as I understand the ApplicationPoolIdentity-function the app pool will create a unique user named as the service.
I assume that will not work with the connection to the sql server because this user is unknown.
Local Service will not work because it's restriction is located to the local machine.
Network Service will work because access to network resources will be available.
So my recommendation is to use a dedicated service account or impersonation:

  • How to allow access to web/application servers on ports other than 80

I have an iBook G4, running OSX 10.4.11, in a wireless network at home....
I'm developing an app that runs on JBoss (port 8080) and I want to expose it to the other computers on the network so I can see how it works with IE (i'm using Safari and Firefox during development). Seems that I should just be able to access the apps using http://ip.address:8080/application but that doesn't work... If I turn on personal web sharing, the other computers in the network can hit Apache running on my iBook (port 80, of course) so my box is visible to the other computers.
Is there a way to expose port 8080 to the other computers (outside of a redirect or reverse proxy on the Apache instance)?

Hi MacmanG2008, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You're actually posting in the Tiger forum and Leopard is so different, but anyway, Leo has 2 places that affect this.
Sharing Pref Pane, Firewall, you can open specific ports, (iirc), then in Security Pref Pane, you can allow certain or ALL services for a rest.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro, how can I access my old backups from previous Macbook??

Hey, I reccently got a new Macbook Pro, because my Macbook died. How can I get access to my previous backups to get uni work and stuff from it? There is almost 2 years work of stuff on there that I need access to.
Is it also because I am now on Lion?
    cheers

Try the advice on this thread.
The problem is that you're using a different Mac.  The best approach would have been to use Setup Assistant to suck your data from the old backup into your new Mac.  Since you didn't do that, your manual approach may be the best option.

  • My new Airport Extreme will not allow access to a Microsoft Exchange server

I just installed a new Airport Extreme at home and now I cannot access my work e-mail which is on a Microsoft Exchange Server.  If I go back to my old wi-fi Access Point my work e-mail comes in and out with no problems, but when I hook the Airport Extreme it keep saying the connection is bad and to check the e-mail username and password.

If you setup the AE wrongly, as a router when you already have a router, then you must bridge the AE. Apple nowadays reckon they should be top dog and force the AE to router mode.. unfortunately this is wrong on at least 50% of the setups and their support says double NAT doesn't matter.. well it does matter.
You can do a simple test.. traceroute 8.8.8.8 from terminal or network utility.
If you find two separate private IP addresses the AE is setup wrongly and it must go to bridge mode.
Eg.. here is mine.. you will note there is hop 1, the main router.. 192.168.2.254 and the next hop is internet IP.
What you want to avoid is 10.0.1.1 and then 192.168.1.1 or any other combo of private IP addresses.
If the AE is setup correctly and there is only a single private IP in the traceroute then you have a different issue.
The AE is blocking the ports required for you to access your mail.
You will need to setup manual port forwarding to get this working. There is no firmware fix as this issue is in every firmware for the AC version AFAIK, but certainly if you are trying on previous firmware check for upgrade.
Port forwarding check what ports are required..

  • My old PC no longer works but my iTunes account is on it, I don't want or need a new PC so how do I access my account?

My iTunes account is on my old PC laptop which no longer works so I have no access to update my iPod nano or back up iPhone etc. what can I do?

You can create "on-the-go" playlists on the nano.
You can't very well home share from a computer that isn't running. Your Apple TV can connect to your account and stream your purchases from iTunes in the Cloud.
See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device when you're ready to to pull back your non-purchased media which you presumably haven't backed up elsewhere.
