Downloaded new software; need help getting started...

Are you sure that you are logged in to Skype application installed on your computer and not just to your Account page on the Web. The last will not provide you any access to your contacts or call option.
What exactly is the version of Skype installed on your computer? In Skype go to Help -> About Skype.
If you have not yet installed Skype on your computer, then you need to do this now.

Can't find new drive when looking for start up disk

I upgraded to a new SATA HD on my G5. The process that I took was to copy the replaced drive via Super Duper. I moved the copy to my internal back up drive and then swapped out the old drive for a new drive. When I booted up, I did so from the back up drive and had no issues. I then partitioned the new drive and moved the files from the back up drive to the new drive. I then went into prefs to change the start up disk to the new drive - however, it is not showing up. The drive does show up in system profiler and I can navigate through it. However, nothing it is not picked up in start up??? Any thoughts?

If you did not clone the drive onto the new one, then you must install OSX on that drive in order to have it boot the Mac.

New User needs help with starting SDK

I downloaded the J2EEsdk-1_4 files and completed the installation. I have looked at all the tutorials and quick-start documentation, but cannot find how to begin building an application. All I needed was very minimal Java parts to write a "Hello World" program for a class, but it prompted me to get the whole package.
How do I get to a prompt window to write some code, then compile it, then run it? I tested the local server as it suggested and it is working, and I ran their sample program and it worked.
I just need a pointer to get me started. I don't need all the web deployemnt stuff, etc....

New timecapsule need help with start up

I recently switched to an iMac from a Dell and now am trying to add a timecapsule primarily for automated back up although if I can use the print feature that would be a nice added benefit. I have a modem/router from Consolidated Communications which is located in a different room than my computer. My preference would be to have the timecapsule located with the computer so that I can back up more quickly over ethernet and have my printer plugged into the timecapsule so that my iPad and other laptops can access it. Is this possible? I have tried setting the timecapsule up wireless as well as plugged directly into the router, in both cases I cannot get a valid ip address and then have trouble with my iMac accessing my existing network as it tries to connect through the timecapsule rather than to my current network via the built in airport. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, with two caveats: 1) It will really depend on the distance and what obstructions are between the other wireless router and the TC to determine how well the TC can connect to its wireless network, and 2) Configured to join, the TC's Ethernet ports will not be enabled. However, its USB port will.
These two items may preclude it being the desired end state that you are looking for. Typically to enable the TC to also provide network connectivity (either by wire or wireless), it would have to be configured for a WDS. Unfortunately, most non-Apple routers are not WDS-compatible.
This leaves you with at least two choices: 1) Connect the two routers by Ethernet or if that is not practical or desirable, consider Powerline adapters, or 2) Configure the TC as a standalone wireless router. With the second option, you would have to switch wireless networks to print or perform Time Machine backups ... again, not a viable solution.
I would suggest considering the Powerline adapter approach for your situation.

My honest advice to you would be don't buy a MSI motherboard.
Some may have good reviews, but these are based on a couple of hours testing in some lab. The real test of a motherboard is how the end user community rates the board, after weeks and months of use.
Do some research in public forums on any of the Mobo's u you are thinking of. Then base your decsion on that.
I made the mistake of buying an MSI mobo, when i'd previously used only DFI or Asus.
With MSI you are prone to stabilty problems and they seem incapable of releasing bios updates in time with new hardware/processors. Indeed MSI is the ONLY mobo Manfn who cannot write a bios that offically supports Venice + San Diego chips, when every other major manfn released them, months ago.
Its only my humble experience and view , but MSI are when it comes to MOBO.

Unfortunately there isn't official commercial support for Mozilla Thunderbird from Mozilla Corp.. I believe some contributors here ([http://mozilla.magicfab.ca myself included]) do offer such support, though.

Regarding your issue, it looks like the mail folder information may be corrupt. In the left pane, in the folder list, right-click on the Sent folder and select '''Properties'''. Choose "'''Rebuild Index'''" or "'''Repair Folder'''" - do you even have that option? Once done, exit TB completely and restart it.
Updating to a newer version will help anyone help you, if only because some of the documentation for older Thunderbird versions is a bit harder to find and testing to try & reproduce your problem will be harder. Don't do this just yet, though :)
After this issue has been addressed I would suggest considering using IMAP if your provider allows you to, and of course archiving your email to Local Folders and doing regular backups of your profile.

I have recently started seeing millions of pop-up ads on website pages. It is not something that normally happens. They open new windows with ads for online gambling, online dating among other things. I am growing sick and tired of these ads, and have tried multiple things. I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, I have blocked pop-up ads and unenabled Java script. I have tried everything I could find, but nothing has worked. I have even downloaded AdBlock and Clean Genius. Nothing has even remotely changed this annoying trait. I hope this can be a quick fix I can perform and not something that will have to be done by a tech-hand. Please, if you know anything about this issue, let me know how to fix it.

I uninstalled older version of Itunes because for some reason it wouldn't start. I installed new version 10.7 for 64 bit (windows 7) and it WONT RUN either. help please

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

That's probably not a good idea to try to share apps since you will have to switch ID's each time you update apps and sync apps from iTunes.
And technically - according to Apple's terms - you cannot share apps using different ID's. You can actually lock yourself out of an ID for 90 days if you switch ID's and if you associate the iPad with another ID.

When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. This article describes how to manage these associations.

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

FPGA for CAN, DI, AI help getting started

I am a new user to LabView.
I am trying to program the FPGA on a 9144 Ethercat chassis with modules 9423 (Digital input), 9201 (Analog input), 9853 (CAN). 9144 is connected to a cRIO-9024. There are more modules but if I can figure these out, the others should be almost the same.
I have tried to copy the code in the following examples but not all the referenced VI's are on my computer or there is problems with the code that I don't know how to fix

I am able to monitor the digital input and analog input using the real-time VI's, but that is pretty simple.
Normally, I would just pound away at it for a while until I got something that worked, except there are some deadlines that have to be met.
I need to be able to read and write CAN (this is to control a motor). The digital input needs to measure the frequency (Hz) of the incoming signal (count edges). Analog input I would assume would be the easiest as it is just reading a voltage. I realize that the only thing that really needs to run on the FPGA is the CAN. I believe (and hoping) that it is possible to have all the data input come through the FPGA so that the Real-Time VI's only deal with the usable values like Hz and then equate that to RPM for example. I am only looking to extract data at a rate of 1Hz.
If anyone could help me out with some basic code to get me started, I would appreciate it.

varies by FPGA target – NI 9144 is one of the targets that doesn’t support it. With

compile and download the FPGA VI to NI 9144 instead of clicking the Run button.

What does a new non-DE user need? | Help for a Wiki page

Hey Archers,
I'm using Arch with the Compiz Standalone Window Manager and I need some help for a project.
It turns out (who knew) that computers need a lot more to run smoothly than just a desktop and applications. You need network managers, gtk themes and much much more. Now, Desktop Environments such as GNOME and KDE provide a lot of these programs built-in, good for them, but I'm looking to build my system as dependency-free as I can and the big DE's don't really provide that. Especially GNOME just ropes me in whenever I want to use the tiniest piece of it (darn you gnome-keyring).
So I come to you fora, with a quest for information. I want to compile an overview of essential and useful applications with minimal dependencies that allow a CompizIndy user to build his system freely. And if I get enough information, I want to turn it into its own page for the Wiki so it becomes easier to get started with a birds-eye view of what you need to flesh out your system (not exclusively for CompizIndy btw). So please help me!
What applications/daemons/tools should a new system install? I'm not asking which ones are the best or worst or your favorites, just which kinds do you need --that aren't covered in the install guide--?
For example it's advisable to get:
Panel/dock
desktop manager
network manager
compositing manager
a tool for managing removable devices (ntfs-3g etc)
a packer/unpacker
a screensaver
power management
alt-F2 runcommand
custom keybindings
a user switch/logout manager
a volume manager
etc.
So what do you recommend? What do you need to get up and going?

There are many threads on this, although individual ones asking for "the best app to do XXX". You could try searching those. Also Search for the LnF Awards threads. you might find a few ideas there. We also have wiki pages for light-weight applications which might be useful
