New to BTFON

Morning all, Id just like to clear up a few things so tell me if im wrong:
Am on total BB option 3
Have just opted into BTFON
Free of charge service (unlimited wi-fi mins?)
I can use other FON spots and my own free of charge with no download limit?
Speeds are up to 512kb.
If i have a set number of wi-fi mins how do i check this
When logging into BTFON to check status its not very informative.
Many thanks
If I've helped, just click the Star - Every little bit helps
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Nice one guys, many thanks.
I look forward to trying this out on teh Ipad when im away from home.
I have a netgear router so people cant connect to me for the time being lol
but this might change when i get the new hub with infinity

  • New BT Openzone log in page for BTFon

Ok, who redesigned the log in page (The Olympics logo etc has been added to it). When I first tried to log in with my saved username and password all that happened was that IE added my username but no password. Anyway deleted all the save detailed, cookies etc and tried logging in afresh. IE now no longer offers to save either my username or password. Absolute pain - wouldn't be so bad if it logged in on the first attempt but when you get to the 3rd attempt it does get a little tiring. Either fix it pleeease or bring back the old page! Cheers.

I don't suppose any of you are using a fon account to login to btopenzone, since the redesign I've been unable to connect using my fon details  It just goes in to a loop and then eventually shows a symphony error.
    Thanks

the btinternet.com emil address that I asked for and was sown in the registration email when I applied for BT Broadband has not yet been set up.
When I try to login in I get "This ID is not yet taken." or when I try to get e new password it says that the email does not exist.
We registered on 2nd August, got a new line on 10th, Infinity on the 15th due to a delay, and then our old number was restored on the 24th. When we called the help desk on the 18th or so, we were told that it was because the order was open ( for the number restoration). That is now closed.
The broadband service is amazing by the way.
I appreciate that the services provided by BT are divided amongst several companies, but there seems to be a teeny break in communications somewhere that stops the email accounts being set up on schedule.
I tried calling 0800 111 4567 but couldn't break the IVR maze to get to someone to talk to.
What is the best way forward please, I want to set up BTFON and check out the security software!

  • Wireless connection issue, new HH2.0A

    Hi again everyone.
We've recently upgraded to 'up to 20Mb' BB option 3 and got sent a new HH2.0A to go with it after being on the 1.5 for a few years but i seem to be having trouble with a secondary PC connecting by wireless.
The other PC is using a BT Voyager 1055 wireless dongle to connect, but it seems that the first time it connects after being turned off, it can't aquire an IP address so we have to keep repairing the connection until it picks one up, then it works fine until it's turned on again the next day.
I've tried setting the HH to give it a static IP address but the problem still happens.  I've noticed the dongle utility says it's using WPA-PSK security whereas that isn't an option on the HH security page, only 'WPA' or 'WPA & WPA2'.  Would that be causing the issue do you think?
I'm reluctant to change any hub settings too much as we are still within our 10 day line testing period and aren't up to full speed yet.
Thanks in advance for any help on this issue

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, deleting the old connection was the first thing I tried but it didn't work.  I'm going to try totally reinstalling the 1055 utility from the disk next I think.
I didn't even check the BTFon thing but the hub page says it's active so I guess it is transmitting.  Would this have any effect on the problem or on my speeds as a whole?
I'm not sure if reinstalling will solve this, but go for it
If it says active, then you're part of BTFon - this will use a max' 512Kbps or your total speed when someone connects to it
It shouldn't affect your wireless connection

  • Anyone else having probs with BTFon and BTYahoo us...

    Hi All,
Where to start. BTFon via the BTFon app was working well until recently....
....now it's not working properly - totally random and can do any of the following:
The app when at home drops my SSID and connects to BTFon or BTOpenzone, or tries to connect
When I disconnect from my own SSID, the app can't connect to either BTF or BTO
The app gives the incorrect email details window - this is down to Skyport and/or the Baynard servers
My phone shows BTF and BTO as disabled or remembered or both - forgetting the network used to allow a connection, now it doesn't always allow a connection
My phone see's the BTF BTO rapidly moving around on the list of available networks
The app either connects to BTO, or the hub drops my SSID, yet as the app doesn't fire up to notify me, so I assume I'm connected to my SSID - therefore no emails get sent to the phone till I reconnect to my hubs SSID and then I get bombarded with them
Which takes me on to BTY....
A few days ago, all the emails in my BTY inbox (on phone and Laptop) were dated 01/01/1970
This could only be corrected by opening the emails and the date self corrected.
(The emails that shouldn't of been there were then automatically sent to their relevant folders)
Unbeknown to me, today I didn't think I had received any BTY emails, but I had and the Snoop Yahoo mail app didn't alert me to them. This worked perfectly BEFORE the ATOS were altered - possible reason???? (gmail is fine btw)
Having tried various things to try and resolve this on the phone, I gave up and dumped the Ymail app (probably a good thing imho).
Tried K9 - didn't like it that much.
Tried some others - again not to my liking.
Used the pre installed email client (unknown) - It'll do, but just checked and one email in my inbox is again showing 01/01/1970.
Anyway, closed down all applications on the phone and Laptop. Then turned the phone off.
Then tried to open BTY and got this:
Due to the above, (on the laptop) I tried Thunderbird, hmm not sure so removed, then windows mail, still not sure so also removed.
Tried BTY again and it worked, though a new but an already read email is there in my inbox, the date 01/01/1970
What can I do to sort all this out?

Sorry about the confusion here: what I meant was as both of the accounts using the 'old' or 'new' yahoo mail, or one of each?
A few of us had issues with access protocols when "mix'n matching them"
You could try a temporary pass change for both accounts, see if the app works, and then revert to a chosen password.
I has this issue myself...it simply "went away" and I never really got to the bottom of it

  • XP netbook can detect btfon signal but not my home...

I have BT Infinity with a home hub 3 and there are several devices in the house connected to it including one physical connection to a Windows 7 desktop, iPad, iPhone, android phones, sky+ box, blackberry, vista laptop. The oldest device is an Advent XP netbook. This is the problem device. It will initially connect to the router via the regular home network, but then one day it refuses to detect it. It will happily see and connect to the btfon signal but despite refreshing the available networks it refuses to see the home network.
I can usually solve this by rebooting the router, but it's becoming very annoying. I have tried changing the broadcast channel, changing down to b/g rather than b/g/n.
The fact that it can quite clearly see the btfon signal and a neighbours signal would suggest that the wireless card is fine and the fact that other devices can connect to the home network suggests the router is fine. Perhaps it's a setting somewhere.
Im not a tech expert and I'm not really sure what I'm talking about but could the dhcp lease renewal be causing problems (whatever dhcp may be)?
Apologies if this has bme mentioned and solved before.
    Thanks,
    Darren

I had the exact same thing with my old Home Hub, I'm using the exact same Adapter now but with just a new hub. I haven't had this problem since the new HomeHub so I put it too the old hub as nothing has changed my end except the hub.

I would like to be able to set up a new email sub-account.  I've logged into my top level BT Yahoo email account OK and selected Account Info under the gear wheel, and get a verify password dialogue (all as advised on the relevant help page).  I enter the correct password and then get a CAPTCHA dialogue consisting of moving text waving up and down behind other moving random text (NOT mentioned in the help pages!).  I enter the appropriate text and press 'Continue'...and nothing happens.  It should go through to dialogues allowing me to manage my sub-accounts, but it doesn't.
Am I doing something wrong?  I have tried clearing the browser cache and repeated the process about four times with always the same result.
Any help much appreciated.  The Indian call centre were not able to help.

The BT account holder should have access to MYBT (or whatever you want to call it) by means of a username and password, not an email address. Once in the account, all forms of administration can then be carried out including setting an email address for correspondence, access to BTFON etc. Further email addresses could also be set up for users under the account management.

  • How do i stop my internet automatically going to btfon

My computer automatically switches to BTFON when it's turned on and after being asleep.
I've tried putting it on 'ask to join new networks' and turned this off on both settings it still keeps jumping to BTFON.
Any ideas or anyone else had this problem?
    Thank you

Two methods, depending on whether this is a new problem you've encountered since UPGRADING to iOS 8.
    1)  Under Settings / Messages / Send and Receive - turn off any you don't want on that particular device - similarly with your Mac although I think its under iMessage preferences.
    2) There is a new feature under iOS 8 which, by default, forwards all calls to any nearby Apple device with your Apple ID on it... trying to find....  on your phone - Settings /Facetime - turn OFF the iPhone Cellular Calls feature,

I need an internet connection to find where my nearest hotspot is !!!  Is there any software I can load on my laptop to show me the locations?  I believe there's an app for the iPhone, but I don't have an iPhone.
For instance, a map showing the positions of the hotspots when I last was on the net.

    Hi all.
As mentioned we are new customers to BT.
We only have one telephone socket in the house (the master). Which is connected direct to the incoming phone line.
We don't have a house phone.
The HomeHub 4 is connected into the test socket.
The hubs downspeed is 2mb and i am receiving 1.8mb over wireless (i know wireless is slower than wired).
If i connect to my nextdoor neighbours BtFon i can get about 3.6. We are far away from the exchange but is there anything i can do? We are unable to use iPlayer at such bad speeds. We keep checking when BT infinity is going to arrive but for the past 4 months it just says end of June.... end of July.... end of August.... end of Sept etc.
Any help is very very much appreciated.

  • BT HomeHub2 connection lost with iPhone- BTFON rel...

    Hi
I have a laptop that connects very happily with a BT HomeHub 2.
I also have an iPhone 3GS that does the same.
However, I recently downloaded the BTOFN app on the phone and used the OpenZone a few times.
On the phone, there is now no listing at all for my BT HomeHub under WiFi Settings. It has totally disappeared. I can still connect to BTFON networks sporadically.
Other people have had similar problems following downloading the BTFON app, but always their HomeHub still appears on the list of WiFi networks on the phone.
    I have tried:
    - switching the phone on and off. The HomeHub fails to appears on the Wi-Fi list.
    - on the phone, under Settings\Wi-Fi\Othe to set up another network and typed in the wireless network name and the wireless key, using WEP Security setting. I get the message 'Could not find the network 'BTHomeHub2-xxxx'.
    - on the phone, under Settings\Wi-Fi\Other to set up another network and typed in the wireless network name and the wireless key, using WAP Security setting. I get the message 'Failed to join BTHomeHub2-xxxx'.
    - deleting BTFON app on phone. The HomeHub fails to appears on the Wi-Fi list.
I have recently upgraded the software on the phone to 5.1.
(I assume that when I'm setting up a new WiFi network on the phone under Settings\Wi-Fi\Other, the password asked for is the Wireless Key? Or is it another password?)
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Mac mini the new AppleTV 2.0?

I was thinking since Apple is now considered an electronics gadget company, why not make the entry level Mac the next AppleTV with Leopard (OS X 10.5)? If Apple added the ATV's connections and software they could market it along with the iPod. This would give the ATV a DVD player and the capability of loading EyeTV DVR on it. Maybe Apple could preload a trial version of EyeTV on it for those who want to record TV programs. Beef up the processor, video graphics and add a built-in iPod dock and you'd have a true media server. Price it extremely competitive.
There are a lot of iPod and iPhone users out there that would buy this AppleTV 2.0. This would be the first Mac for many households and when it came time to get a regular computer they may think iMac or MacBook because of their great experience with Apple's many consumer gadgets.

  • New BT connection - not satisfied with BB speed

It's about 4 weeks since I moved my BB from Virgin Media to BT.  Initially I was advised to be patient and wait for the BB speed to settle down.  I've done this and am very disappointed with the download
speeds I'm achieving and need some help in establishing why the speed is so slow.
My download speeds vary between 600 Kbps and 1000 Kbps.  There is no problem with my upload speeds which are constant at around 800 Kbps. The IP profile for my line was 8000 Kbps originally but has now gone down to 1500 Kbps on recent speed tests.  Internet surfing has become very frustrating as the speeds are far worse than I was achieving with Virgin.  I feel cheated because I was initially told I would get download speeds of around 5600 Kbps when I signed up - I realise this is probably the maximum I could achieve, and would be very happy if I could get 2000-2500 Kbps.  I use a wired connection on my desktop PC using an ethernet cable.
I don't know if it could be anything to do with the actual installation of the line.  When the Openreach engineer came on 29 September he asked me where my BT master socket was and I replied that I didn't have one.  I was surprised by this question because I had advised BT, at the time of ordering, that a new line was required.  He then said that he could run the new line into the Virgin Cable master socket.  I was a bit puzzled by this and said I thought I would be having a new BT master socket fitted.  He said I could have one if I wanted, but against my better judgement I allowed myself to be persuaded to accept the new line linked in to the Virgin cable socket.  Unfortunately this socket is a long way from the BT homehub.  When I asked the engineer whether this would affect the speed of the BB he said 'No, the exchange is only a mile up the road.'  Anyway he quickly did the work required and left.  I was somewhat surprised that he didn't come into the house to test the line.  We were also slightly worried that he laid approx. 30 metres of the new line cable loose in our bungalow guttering which often has lying water in it - could this have any bearing on the problem?
Unfortunately we're pensioners and not technically savvy.  All I know is that is that our interent is slow and frustrating at the moment and any advice about what we can do to improve the situation would be very welcome.  Thanks.
    Martin
PS - have now set up a wireless connection to my laptop at home - same slow download speeds when connecting to the BT homehub but when I  connect to BTFon, the speed seems much better.

Sounds like a bodge up job loose cable in gutter may blow around and be damaged if it did you would be charge for repair

  • Security of the new homehub 2.0

    Hello there ,
My mum and dad have had the new black home hub 2.0 for a couple of months. I myself have one now. I spoke to my mum today and she said a neighbour's son had been up and down their close with some handheld device (my words not hers), and discovered someone on the close had insecure broadband connection. Apparently it was them.
Now I set up their wireless network some time ago and, i'm no expert, but i needed the wireless key in order to do this. My dad is a bit useless when it comes to anything that feeds off electricity these days, is there any way possible he could have made the network insecure?
Bit concerned, it sounds like a confidence trick to me, but if i suggest this to my parents then of course they're more likely not to believe me, you know how it is!
So i would be grateful for any learned advice before i race round with my baseball bat,
    regards

  • New DVR Issues (First Run, Channel Switching, etc.)

I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to find answers through the search with no luck, so sorry if I missed something.
I recently switched to FIOS from RCN cable in New York.  I've gone through trying to setup my DVR and am running into issues and was hoping for some answers.
    1.  I setup two programs to record at 8PM, I was watching another channel at the time and only half paying attention.  Around 8:02 I noticed a message had popped up asking if I would like to switch channels to start recording.  I was expecting it to force it to switch like my old DVR, but in this case it didn't switch and I missed the first two minutes of one of the shows.  I typically leave my DVR on all day and just turn off the TV, this dual show handling will cause issues with that if I forget to turn off the DVR.  Is there a setting I can change that will force the DVR to choose one of the recording channels?
    2.  I setup all my recordings for "First Run" because I only want to see the new episodes.  One show I setup was The Daily Show on comedy central, which is shown weeknights at 11pm and repeated 3-4 times throughout the day.  My scheduled recordings is showing all these as planned recordings even though only the 11pm show is really "new".  Most of the shows I've setup are once a week so they aren't a problem, but this seems like it will quickly fill my DVR.  Any fixes?
    Thanks for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I came from RCN about a year ago.  Fios is different in several ways, not all of them desirable.  Here are several ways to get--and fix--unwanted recordings from a series recording setup.
    Some general principles.
Saving changes.  When you originally create a series with options, or if you go back to edit the options for an existing series, You MUST save the Series Options changes.  Pretty much everywhere else in the user interface, when you change an option, the change takes effect immediately--but not in Series Options.  Look at the Series Options window.  Look at the far right side.  There is a vertical "Save" bar, which you must navigate to and click OK on to actually save your changes.  Exiting the Series Options window without having first saved your changes loses all your attempted changes--immediately.
Default Series Options.  This is accessed  from [Menu]--DVR--Settings--Default Series Options.  This will bring up the series options that will automatically be applied to the creation of a NEW series. The options for every previously created series will not be affected by a subsequent modification of the Default Series Options.  You should set these options to the way you would like them to be for the majority of series recordings that you are likely to create.  Be sure to SAVE your changes.  This is what you will get when you select "Create Series Recording" from the Guide.  When creating a new series recording where you think that you may want options different from the default, select "Create Series with Options" instead.  Series Options can always be changed for any individual series set up later--but not for all series at once.
Non-series recordings.  With Fios you have no directly available options for these.  With RCN and most other DVRs, you can change the start and end times for individual episodes, including individual episodes that are also in a series.  With Fios, your workarounds are to create a series with options for a single program, then delete the series later;  change the series options if the program is already in a series, then undo the changes you made to the series options later; or schedule recordings of the preceding and/or following shows as needed.
And now, to the unwanted repeats.
First, make sure your series options for the specific series in question--and not just the series default options--include "First Run Only".  If not, fix that and SAVE.  Then check you results by viewing the current options using the Series Manager app under the DVR menu.
Second, and most annoying, the Guide can have repeat programs on your channel tagged as "New".  It happens.  Set the series option "Air Time" to "Selected Time".  To make this work correctly, you must have set up the original series recording after selecting the program in the Guide at the exact time of a first run showing (11pm, in your case), and not on a repeat entry in the Guide.  Then, even it The Daily Show is tagged as New for repeat showings, these will be ignored.
Third, another channel may air reruns of the program in your series recording, and the first showing of a rerun episode on the other channel may be tagged as "New".  These can be ignored in your series if you set the series option "Channel" to "Selected Channel".  Related to this, if there is both an SD and HD channel broadcasting you series program, you will record them both if the series option "Duplicates" is set to "Yes".  However, when the Channel option is set to "Selected Channel", the Duplicates Option is always effectively "No", regardless of what shows up on the options screen.
As for you missing two minutes,  I have sereral instances in which two programs start recording at the same time.  To the best of my recollection, whenever the warning message has appeared, ignoring it has not caused a loss of recording time.  You might have an older software version.  Newest is v.1.8.  Look at Menu--Settings--System Info.  Or, I might not have noticed the loss of minutes.  I regularly see up to a minute of previous programming at the start of a recording, or a few missing seconds at the beginning or end of a recording.  There are a lot of possibilities for that, but the DVR clock being incorrect is not one of them.  With RCN, the DVR clocks occasionally drifted off by as much as a minute and a half.
