New to Business Rules Management

Hi All,
I am really new to Business Rules Management and trying to model rules in the SAP Netweaver Composition Environment.
Could someone let me know if they have any sort of document to do the same.
Thanks & Regards,
Sushanth Hulkod

Hi Suskanth,
  Check out the BRM section on SDN http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-rules-management as well as the SAP NetWeaver BRM section SAP NetWeaver Business Rules Management Resources Center [original link is broken] where you can find tutorials.

  • Separate release of SAP Business Rules Management component

    I am evaluating the possibility of using the SAP Business Rules Management for the company. What I have seen till now in SAP is that it is part of the SAP Netweaver composition environment which consists of lot of other components also. I don't want to use the other components. Is is possible to download a trail copy of only the Business Rules management component ? (I don't want to use the BPM and others.)

    Hello Prashanth,
    You can just select the usage type (functional unit) Business Process Management and Business Rules management for installation.
    You can find more information on installation in the guide provided at the SAP service marketplace - https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/installnw73

  • Business Rules Management when Base Members become parents

    Hi Experts,
    This is a question for BPC 7.5 NW.
    Currently the consolidation is being done at Grp Account Level.
    Account Dimension members for eg are:
    ID        H1
    A         AA
    B         BB
    C         CC.
    Automatic adjustments are configured against members A, B and C. Properties relevant to consolidation process are also relevant to configured against A, B and C.
    Requirement is that consolidation be done at Account level from now on.
    Account Dimension members for eg. will be:
    ID      H1
    A1     A
    A2     A
    B1     B
    B2     B
    C1     C
    C2     C
    A      AA
    B      BB
    C      CC
    In such a case, will automatic adjustments business rules hold good for A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 which are already configured for their parents A, B and C?
    If so, then will consolidation relevant properties have to be mapped to A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 too or only at A, B and C?

    Hi,
    when you define business rules with property values these values must exist on base level members. In such a scenario BPC simply looks for values on accounts with the relevant properties which, if those properties are only defined on summation level members, it would not find.

    Arnold

  • Business rules in calculation manager

    Hi experts,
    I'm currently working with Hyperion Fusion Edition 11.1.1.2.
    In calculationmanager I created 10 business rules for an application.
    I then deleted all of them in one step (marked all then right click "delete").
    The intenet explorer browser freezed showing "DELETE".
    I then closed the browser and logged back in, imported the new 10 business rules to the application and deployed them.
    It is very wierd that I still have the old 10 business rules which I deleted plus the 10 new business rules.
    The old business rules are not to be found either in system-,deployment-, or list-view.
    Is there workaround to delete the 10 old business rules which I cannot see in calculation manager and still exist in planning?
    Many thanks
    Ed

    There are 2 ways to deploy rules to planning from calc manager.
    Option 1. When you select a bunch of rules and deploy, the old ones are not deleted from planning.
    Option 2. Go to the deployment view, select the rules you want to deploy. Go back to the system view and do a deploy at the application node.
    When you deploy at the application level, planning will erase all the existing ones and replaces it with the new ones.

  • Hyperion Business Rules - Updating to use New Member in Essbase Outline

    We have a business rule that needs updated to include a new cost center.
    "Allocated Account" = ("Account 1"->CC1->Product->Project->"Channel 1" + "Account 1"->CC2->Product->Project->"Channel 1") / ("Account 5"->CC_3->Product->Project->"Channel 1" + "Account 5"->CC_4->Product->Project->"Channel 1");
    CC2 is a cost center that we just added to the Essbase outline and does not have data yet. When I try to validate the business rule, I get an error:
    Cannot calculate. Essbase Error(1200497): Error compiling formula for [Allocated Account] (line 33): unknown member name [CC2] in function ...
    I am new to business rules and have no clue why it doesn't like the new cost center.
    Thanks.

    Yes, I can find the member name in the outline. I don't understand what you mean by "refreshing" the outline. I have saved the outline.

  • Business Rules Change Management

    Hello BRM Experts,
    Can you let me know the features which are coming as part of the Business Rules management? According to one of the presentations, it is supposed to come out in 2009. Can you also tell me the availability of Rules management in 2009?
    Regards,
    Vivek

    Hello Vivek,
    This is Arti from the SAP Business Rules Management team.
    Yes, according to the roadmap, change management will be available with SAP Netweaver BRM in 2009. Along with this, you can also expect Rules Manager - a web based interface to manage rules. This is specifically meant for business users. There will also be rules testing and business rules refinement and validation.
    I am providing a link to BRM Roadmap here -https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/702315d9-7901-2b10-eaa1-d9e4f5470cac
    Hope you find it useful.

    Hi,
    There is a Java API available for Oracle Business Rules, see: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/apirefs.1111/e10663/toc.htm. E.g. for adding buckets to bucketsets, adding or adding, deleting, or reordering rules in A RuleTable.

  • Business Rules in Web Forms

    Hi
    I am comparitively new to Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 and I have to design a web form in which I want to perform calculation in cells of the web form like adding subtraction of the values in the cells of the form.
    As for my knowledge I need to design Business Rules for this and I am not sure how and where to define these rules in Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 version of Planning.
    Can anyone help me solve this problem as soon as possible.
    --XAT

    For a simple in-sheet calculation like this, you might consider two other solutions:
    1) Use a dynamic calc in your model to subtract the two items. As soon as the user saves the inputs, the results will be displayed, and there is no need to create a business rule, manage security for that rule, etc.
    2) Use custom JavaScript. As soon as the user tabs out of the input cell they can see the results - even before the form saves.
    With the business rule, you'll need to wait for the rule to run before the results can be displayed. It's somewhat like a stored procedure in a relational database. But there are other options.
    Hope this helps,
    - Jake

  • Business rule to add or reduce a fixed percentage for the next FY

    Folks
    I am new to business rules. I need help from the gurus. I am working on a business rule which has to do the following:
    - Take the values for a particular scenario and version of previous year
    - Add or subtract fixed % from the amount and copy the calculated value to the current Fiscal Year.
    For Example :
    For FY13, Year Total, Budget and Version 1 we have 1000 then lets say the fixed % we choose is to add 10 % then when this business rule is run for
    FY14, Year Total, Budget and Version 1 it should produce 1100.
    Has anyone ever did this kind of rule. Any help is much appreciated on this.
    Thanks
    Santosh

    Block creation will be the biggest issue, so do this:
    &CurrentYear->Budget->Working = &PriorYear->Budget->Final * 1+ {rtpPercentVarable};
    where {rtpPercentVarable} is a calc mgr variable set as Percent.
    If you have block creation issues then:
    DATACOPY &PriorYear->Budget->Final to &CurrentYear->Budget->Working;
    FIX(Budget,WOrking)
    &CUrrentYear=&CurrentYear * {RTPPercentVariable};
    ENDFIX

  • NW BRM, Rules Manager and transport the BRM project through the landscape.

    Hello,
    I have a question about the working with Rules Manager and the possible difficulties of the changes management.
    The scenario is simple.
    We have created a BRM project in software component with decision table and initialized it with some values. Then we transported it to the QA and Prod system through the CMS. Note: in the SC not only the BRM project but also a WDJ, for example.
    Then business user changes the values in the decision table in Prod system by using Rules Management functionality. Everything is OK till now.
    But then we changed something in the WDJ component in the same SC and then transported it to the Pros system. After that transport the changes of the business user are lost. How can we fix it?
    Of course we can download the runtime content from the prod system, but it's bit complicated. Any ideas?

    Dear Kirill,
    SAP NW Business Rules Management web UI tool for business users (Rules Manager) has a feature "Download Rules Content" from CE 7.3 onwards.
    Please find the details of the feature in the below link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/42/89a408c265402dbaf1c39ea423d816/frameset.htm
    Using the above "Download Rules Content" feature of RulesManager, you should be able to import the latest version of the Rules Project, which contains the changes done by the business user, into NWDS. Once you have the modified rules project in NWDS you should be able to transport it to QA and Prod systems without the data loss.
    But this feature is only available from NW CE 7.3 onwards.
    Hope this helps resolve your problem.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Santosh Giri

  • Expose Business rules as Web Service

    Hi,
    I'm quite new to business rules, and I haven't found any definite information about can I and how expose business rules application as Web Service? In Decision Functions I can check "Will be invoked as webservice", but how can I deploy it on server and so on?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi PK,
    Sorry What i meant was composite service, not web service
    Used wrong wording
    In your composite if you have only businessrules as a component and if you are exposing your BR as service, and if u deploy that process it will give you a wsdl for that composite, which means for BR. Because the client is calling BR it self.

  • Oracle Rules Manager vs Oracle Business Rules

    Hi
    Can someone explain the difference between Oracle Rules Manager and Oracle Business Rules.
    Is Oracle Promoting both the products?
    What I understand is that Oracle Rules Manager comes a part of the Oracle Database 10g R2 (and 11g) and Oracle Business Rules is a part of the SOA suite.
    Is there any difference in the positioning of both these products?
    Our client is evaluating various Rules engines in the market and we want to make sure that we choose the correct product.
    Thanks, Srini

    Igor S. wrote:
    He solves the same problem with rules and without. My question was what would be better? Why would you chose one over the other. I prefer rules that is easy to state, easy to read, and easy to implement. Clear text rules in Prolog being a firm favourite. :-)
    Using a rules engine, with a fairly complex API, in order to define rules? I would want very sound and very robust justification for that.
    Taking this EMP table example. If there is a single AddEmp() PL/SQL procedure interface for adding employees, it is simple matter to see what it does, how it does that, and test and debug that. The only knowledge needed is the ability to read and understand the source code. The same cannot be said of rules engines.
    As for the issue of updating AddEmp() with new rules. Edition redefinition takes care of versioning database objects. And in a far more controlled fashion than dealing with a rules engine that is dynamically update now! while the database is in use - and you have no real idea or real control over when exactly now! was.

  • Hyperion Planning business rules migrating to Calc Manager issue

    It was suggested I post this in calc manager as well, so I hope cross posting is allowed!
    We are trying to migrate from Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
    Our business rules were migrated to Calc Manager by our IT team. The rules run (for the most part).
    Our main complaint about this migration is that it excluded our comments inside the business rules and added it's own!
    When we first open the rule it is in graphical mode. But on the Script Tab I can see our orignal Business rule, but it's missing comments. Not all comments -- those at the top of the rule are intact, but after it starts getting into the meat of the rule, it loses many, but not all of the comments. When I chose to edit this rule in script mode, then calc manager adds tons if its own comments, making the code very junky to read.
    So, multiple questions -- how do we get the migration of business rules to calc manager to stop losing our important comments. Is it possible to get the newly migrated rules to initially open in script mode rather than graphical mode so that it doesn't add it's own comments. Or is there a way to turn off the added commenting?
    This is a snippet of our rule in 11.1.1.3:
    FIX ("D0P000 Pushdown")
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    ENDFIX
    /* FIX on account members that should be rolled up in the AGG statement below. */
    FIX (@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
    This is what it looks like when it comes up in graphical mode in Calc Mgr 11.1.2.2 (note that comment is already missing):
    FIX ("D0P000 Pushdown")
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    ENDFIX
    FIX (@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
    This is what it looks like when it switches from graphical to script (bonus comments are added):
    FIX ( /*DIM:Entities*/"D0P000 Pushdown")
    /*STARTCOMPONENT:FORMULA*/
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    /*ENDCOMPONENT*/ ENDFIX
    FIX ( /*DIM:Accounts*/@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
    Thanks for any help.
    Brenda

    You might learn to appreciate graphical mode in Calc Manager, we do. It is not like the old Business Rules in EAS. I am an old school calc script person, and have NO love for drag-and-drop coding ... I need control. ;-)
    Insert a blank script object and paste your code into the 'Script' tab for that object. Set up your prompts and use the {} notation in your code. All of the comments will stay put ... as long as you DON'T USE EDIT, SCRIPT! We make a fair number of generic, reusable pieces of code and save them as shared scripts. These can be dragged into Rules. Click on the Rule's Begin object and choose the Script tab ... you will see how the bits are assembled into complete calc script. We've even come up with a way to use LOOP ... ENDLOOP as though it were a procedural IF statement so we can control whether or not a chunk of code is active or not.
    Shared scripts are especially good for currency translation components since we occasionally add new currencies and want to make a change in one object that is used in dozens of business rules.
