New to Fios: Schedules Recordings and DVR Capacity

I just gave up on RCN in lieu or Verizon Fios and thus far - can't stand the dvr.
1) The capacity is no where near what RCN's was. I had days worth of TV, movies, etc saved and never ran out of space. With Verizon, it's been less than a week and I`m already half full. I don't have a HD TV, but I`m wondering if my lack of space is caused by the recorder taping in HD. How do I check this setting to ensure that everything being recorded is standard definition?
2) The Verizon DVR is really bad at only keeping two episodes of a show, and only recording new/first run shows. Is there any setting to make this work better? I tried to set it to record first runs only of the show scrubs, on any channel (i wasnt sure what channel the new ones are run on) and in two days it taped 10 episodes...

The FiOS DVR has the same 160GB capacity as the RCN DVR.
SD channels are 0-499 and HD channels are 500+.  All the SD local channels can be found under 50.
Recordings from HD channels consume 3-6x the capacity of SD channels.

  • FiOS Mobile App and DVR

    Hello,
I have 2 Cisco CHS435HDC DVR's that are connected to my home network. The other day I downloaded the FiOS Mobile app and wanted to see if I can watch my recorded shows or schedule new shows using this app. The app recognizes I have 2 devices but it doesnt display my recordings or schedules. In the app it also says the devices are not connected to the network but I can tell they are. Both my phone and the devices are on the same subnet/network so no firewalls or routes are in play.
One thing to note is that I have business service but there is no support forum on the business side so I'm hoping someone here can help.
    1. How can I configure the app to connect to the DVR's or configure the DVR's to broadcast whats needed so they are seen on the network by the app? I cant figure out what I need to do here. (Note I activated and authorized all the devices and accounts)
    2. In the DVR I cant seem to find where to change the IP address if for example I wanted to specify a static IP.
    3. If I wanted to also connect via the internet what ports do I need to forward through my firewall?
    Thanks in advance.

I have my phone registered under Menus\Settings\Remote DVR\Mobile Phone Settings. This is where I registered my phone nunber and it provided a confirmation code. My iPhone works great. Note there is an older App that was replace by a newer app. Make sure you have the latest application for your device.
I am not sure if a plain iPAD or other non phone devices work. I know there had been some complaints, and some requests for applications for non phone devices. Not sure on the status.
I requested one that did not require to go to the Verizon site and back. Why not a local App on the local Wifi? And Also a remote control application developed for your PC? All can be found on The ideas boards, along with many other ideas.

  • Software update and DVR capacity

I had recently updated softweare on FIOS Quantum box. On an old software DVR shows that I had used 90% or 92hrs of HD. After software update I have that is used 100% and used capacity spiked to 144 hrs of HD. Deleting anything it shows that still I have used 100%. Any idea what is going on? Thanks

Ok, so this is a new Macbook Air that you migrated settings from another computer that had the same problem?
First thought is that you may have the Airport network prefs set to require a proxy server. Open Network System Prefs and select Airport. Click on Advanced… then Proxies. Check that none are selected.
If that's ok, then check Ethernet tab and make sure it is set to configure Automatically (or check the manual settings if appropriate).
If that doesn't work, you might try removing all the network preferences and setting everything up from scratch.
If you are not familiar with the Network settings in Network Preferences, you might want to look and see what they look like or take screen shots.
Go to the Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/System Configuration folder and remove these items.
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
Then, open Network System Preferences and add all the Network Services that you need (Airport, Ethernet (I guess over USB--not sure of the name))

  • New to FIOS TV Multi-room DVR - Should I be able to use DVR functions from the other HD STBs?

We just converted from Directv (three DVRs) to FIOS TV and am hoping I didn't make a huge mistake: The sales agent I spoke to said that the Multi-room DVR (Motorola QIP-7216-1) and non-DVR STB would enable me to get the same features I had with my Directv setup so each user could Stop/Start/Record programming from their own remote. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I can only perform DVR control functions from the real DVR. I can view recorded programming on the non-DVR STBs but pressing record for a live broadcast or trying to select a show to record from the guide doesn't work.
I have the ActiontecGen2 MOCA connected MI424WR router, three HD STBs (Motorola 7000), one standard definition STB and the DVR.

As you've found, you can only create recordings from the DVR.  If you want each room to have the ability to schedule recordings, then you need a separate DVR in each room.
The FiOS Motorola DVRs cannot access recordings stored on other DVRs.

  • Multi room viewing causes recordings and dvr functions to fail

Configuration:  HD dvr's in both living room and bedroom.
Watch a show in my living room from the bedroom dvr.  While I am viewing this a new recording starts on the living room dvr.  When I finish watching the bedrooom show and while the living room is still recording I attempt to watch from the beginning the living room show being recorded on the living room TV.  The recording freezes and in fact is never viewable (even days later).  It seems it has been corrupted.
Related to this we were watching a recorded show (from the living room dvr) in the bedroom.  Once finished, tried to rewind the news on the bedroom tv.  Was able to go back the full 20 minutes but would not play back.  The news program was live not on dvr.
Both seem related to watching remotely and then trying to use the local dvr.  Help.

Chuck I am sorry to hear about the DVR's not working right. I have sent you a private message to get more information from you.

  • Scheduled recordings and up coming channel changes

With the scheduled channel changes coming will this affect scheduled recording's?

As it only changes to the LCNs then it shouldn't. It is when DTT broadcast channels switch MUX that you can have a problem with some PVRs but internet channels are a different animal.

  • 500GB DVR wouldn't stop resetting, now all recordings and scheduled series gone

I saw similar threads on this topic, but not sure its the same or not. On 1/11, we were watching a recorded show and it started blinking out a few times, then reset itself. It came back on and then did it again a bit later. We rebooted by unplugging it for a few seconds and it came back.
Then last night (1/12), we were watching a different recording, and the DVR reset itself. When it finished, it reset again. It continually did this around 5 times and then we unplugged it and plugged it back in. It still would just reset and reset. Unplugged again for longer. Repeat. Finally got it to stop resetting by leaving it unplugged while I ate dinner. Got it back to the place in the show we were watching, but the family had dispersed, so I turned it off. Later that night, I was watching from another STB (we have Home Media set up), and I saw the DVR said No recordings. Uh oh. I went to the DVR and turned it on and it showed No recordings and no series scheduled. I tried rebooting again a couple times and no luck. (It wasn't resetting anymore though!)
So I called customer support. I had to get to Tier III before they would agree to send me a new box. Neither knows what happened. They tried resetting remotely and re-initializing and still No recordings. They say they are sending me out a new box.
I'm not sure if we got a guide update or not. I don't remember seeing the "For HD press C", but I might have just missed it. Same with the captions options having all the options from the old system menu.
The tech guy said to call billing after we receive the new DVR to see about compensation. If it was an update that caused this and not just a hard drive issue, I am super-**bleep**. In any case, I'm also **bleep** that they don't try to physically get the recordings back. No one wants to get data off a hard drive... Fortunately I had already watched the latest Downton Abbey!

Though I don't know the size on my DVR, what you describe has been happening to me for three days now, too. Was annoying at first; now it's getting horrible, like every hour or two this happens.
A new box is coming in the mail, but still, this is looking like a more common issue than it ought to be. I'm still in my 30 day "cancel" window for FiOS TV, and I'm about ready to switch right back at this stage.

  • Problem with Fios TV Central and my Home Media DVR...

I have had Fios for some time and I'm upgraded to the new 1.6 img. I can see and my vz media center works with the home dvr and the other  stb's can view dvr recordings from the dvr.
My problem is after logging into the Fios TV Central site it never finds my dvr.....it scans for some time then says there is a problem and to try later. I have done everything (I think) that was required to activate this on my dvr and the tv central site. I've rebooted the actiontec, unplugged and plugged in the dvr stb and the other stb's one at a time with no change.
    Any suggestions?
Called tech support but haven't heard anything from them.

    O.k.
Here's what the tech that came out to the house did.
We first went through the simple stuff and he called his tech guys which didn't really know what could be the problem since this is BETA.
Finally he had to leave but came back the next evening to replace the MI424WR router and the DVR.
He did the router but there system to register was down Friday evening so he had to put the old DVR back and come back the next week.
He finally came back on Tuesday morning and installed the new DVR and it registered ok.
Then you have to wait for the Fios TV Central and the DVR to update.....takes a couple of hours usually.
I finally was able to set up FTVC and it's working both from my computer and from my cell phone.
    IT WORKS!!!!!!!!! Yes!
I think it was the DVR personally because that was the last piece of equipment we replaced and it started working.

  • How do I get my scheduled recordings from the old DVD to the new DVD?

My DVD died. I installed the new one and it works, but the scheduled recordings aren't there. How do I retrieve them from the old box?

    I found it.
It's not under Menu> Settings> DVR...  It is Menu> DVR> Settings  to get to the "export" option.   I haven't done it yet, but the on-screen instructions seems straight forward.  Also, support tells me that once I have exported, then the next time I come to this screen on my new DVR, I will see an import option.
Also I found that by Menu> Settings> Save Settings, I hope to be able to save most of my STB settings, too, because there I have an option to Save Settings to the Cloud.
    Fingers crossed...

  • New Customer with DVR Capacity questions

I just ordered FIOS and was promised by the sales person that came to my door that a dvr that would hold 300 standard recording hours and 88 HD recording hours.  I called verizon to verify this and I can not get a straight answer.  I see on the verizon website the 2 different type dvrs from Motorola.  The 160 GB drive and the 500 GB drive.  I read many  threads and even the 500 GB disk will not meet the numbers quoted to me by the sales person.  The only way I know to get the recording hours promised is to add an external SATA drive to the DVR.
I have called Verizon 2 times and can not get any answers to this question.  They can not tell me the type dvr that will arrive on install day.  They can only say that I will get a multi room dvr and a standard dvr.  I need 2 of these dvrs since my wife sometimes records 4 shows at the same time.  I also tried to contact the Verizon installer to get answers and no response.
Can anyone clarify any of this for me before I cancel my order ?
    Thanks

Probably not.  At some point in the future when Verizon begins rolling out something called "Verizon Media Center" equipment, users will be able to get expanded capabilities.  Unfortunately that time isn't here yet so you have fewer options.
Usually current initial installs cannot specify the exact model device, but only that the devices delivered will meet the order specifications.  In other words, you will receive a DVR, but it may not be the latest or largest model.  It depends on a number of factors such as what's available at the dispatch location, what's available on the truck, etc.  Sounds pretty haphazard I guess, but it's really not all that bad.  Besides, you just may end up getting the latest, largest whatever.  It's a roll of the dice, but my personal view after about a year of FiOS is that the technology and performance are worth whatever "teething" issues one encounters.  Others of course may disagree.
Things change once you actually have the equipment in your home.  Then you have the ability to switch, trade up, etc., depending on your needs.  Note that there often is some sort of fee associated with changing certain gear, especially if it's not defective.
It would be nice if each new order provided brand new gear with the latest and largest specifications, but that simply is not practical and is not standard industry practice.  Sorry if you are not happy with this news, but it's the best I can offer based on the prevailing situation..

  • When will Fios have a New Multi (more then 2) Turner DVR?

When will Fios have a New Multi (more then 2) Turner DVR?   They told me many months ago it would be by end of year.  Well that time is approaching and so far I heard nothing else.
Other companys have more then 2 turners.  Dish has the Hopper 6 shows at once.
    Anyone hear a rumor

  • Schedule Changes and Recordings

    Hi All,
I have a new box delivered in the last two weeks (August 2013). Having come from FreeView (via a Digital Stream box)...I'm fairly sure recording would shift with programme scheduling changes, such as sport over-runs.
Does anyone know if this should happen with this service? I'm specifically thinking of Eurosport. There's obviously been some schedule alterations recently and we are missning some recordings.
Obviously we'll get around this by recording the programmes after the one's we want as well, but I thought the technology existed to deal with late scheduling changes and recording.
    Thanks
    Paul

  • New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Thanks in advance for the help!

Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS.  FiOS does not use modems.  Your cable modem is useless with FiOS.  Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers.  The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet.  The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports.  If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet.  For slower speeds, coax is the default.  Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work.  Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay.  If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time.  You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models.  The Verizon routers are good devices for most users.  People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down.  You can't run any other router firmware on them.  WiFi range is decent, but not great.  I'm quite happy with my Quantum router.  YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want.  However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router.  They won't even mention it as an option.  That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service.  If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one.  If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues.  This will allow you to call their support. This FAQ is very helpful:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 Good Luck.

  • New to FIOS - DVR Question

I just got my FIOS installed yesterday and the technician said that we could access shows that were DVRed on any DVR in the house on any DVR in the house.
The main multiroom DVR is in the living room which allows us to watch what was taped in the kitchen.
There are 3 other DVRs in our bedrooms.  He explained that I could DVR something in the living room and watch it in any of the bedrooms, or DVR something in any of the bedrooms and watch in any other room.
This does not seem like it's the case as I DVR'd something yesterday and its not available on the menu in the bedroom.  Is there another place I should look for it?
    Thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No, DVR's can not transfer to other DVR's
The multi-room DVR can only transfer programming to other full size non-dvr boxes in the houses. Right now the DVR's do not have the ability to speak to other DVR's

  • A Few Quick Tips For Those Who Are New To Fios Quantum and the New Quantum Update

Most of those who have quantum received the new update early this morning (8/12/14)
There are a lot of people that are new to fios who never had anything prior to quantum so I thought I'd make this post to help.
Those who had the older boxes prior to quantum should already know about all of this.
The new update now reflects what the older stb/dr's have and have had for awhile now. There are now more menu settings you will want to go through.
The ad banner guide at the bottom can be disabled. Go to menu > Notifications > Guide Banner > set to disable
The banner will still be there, but will show Verizon rather then ads.
The home screen can be turned off. There is an option to turn it off within the home screen or you can go to menu > Notifications > Promotions > set to disable
The led on the boxes have been changed. If you want to change it go to menu > System > Media Server Settings > LED Brightness.
The Auto Power Off option is set to 4 hours by default. If you don't want the box to turn off automatically you will want to disable this. Menu > System > Media Server Settings > Auto Power Off > set to none
There is now the option to change the guides banners times outs. Menu > Settings > System > Television > Info Bar Time Out (also Channel Bar Timeout)
Some on other forums mentioned the video formats have been changed so its a good idea to check the option out to see if it reflects what you want. Menu > Settings > Audio & Video > Video Settings > Video Format
The aspect # button now works so any SD channels that are boxed can now be stretched using the # button.
I'm happy to see this option back.
    Solved!

Thanks for the info regarding the latest update. I like some of the new/improved options, however I am highly disappointed that the update discontinued the reminder option. I would think that setting a program reminder is a highly used feature and many will be unhappy now that it is gone. I know I surely am!
