New to flash - Image Slider Navigation

OK, so i have put off learning flash for over a year now -
and its time i smartened up my act!
So i have something that i would like to create - its on
http://www.freecaster.tv - see
that image slider at the top that when you hover over the dates the
image moves? Well that's what i want to make if i can.....
Question: Am i way over my head trying to do this as a newbie
to flash? Is it hard? Does anyone have any tutorials that they know
of that can push me in the right direction?
I do a lot of video editing, and i understand the concept of
flash with the key points and things.....
Any help will be very much appreciated...
Thanks!

Sorry, I should have added that I'm running Dreamweaver 8 and
Flash Professional 8.
Cheers.

  • New to Flash - inserting a navigation onto a html hidden layer

    Apologies if I use the wrong terminology - I'm used to
    html/css coding, and haven't ventured into Flash yet, but a client
    has requested a very specific navigation system and I think Flash
    is the only way to achieve it.
    It's a fairly straightforward html/css site and the client
    wants to have a semi-transparent navigation overlay on the page
    (hidden layer) accessible by clicking on the company logo. The
    overlay will be an image of a globe with text links at different
    angles - hence the need for Flash rather than html. The text should
    have mouseover behaviours and link to other pages within the site.
    So, since I'm a solid gold newbie, is there a step-by-step
    tutorial on achieving this? I think that it's a relatively
    straightforward process, just one that I don't know!
    Thanks for your patience.

  • Flash CS3 "slides" - any way to convert to newer version?

    Hello,
    I hope this is the right forum for my question.  I'm working on a massive project of manually converting very old Flash CS3 FLA files to Flash CC or Flash CS6.  I’m required to preserve all animation and functionality, but several thousand of these files were created in the discontinued “Insert Screen Type -> Slide” format.
    Is there a tool or workaround that would allow me to quickly convert an FLA file containing these old Flash “slides” directly into individual slides in a newer version such as Flash CS6 or CC?  My current process is extremely tedious and involves:
    opening up the original file in CS3
    selecting one of the many slides within the file
    copying all Frames from each slide within original file
    creating a new Flash file in a newer version of Flash for EACH ORIGINAL SLIDE
    In the new Flash file: creating Layers to duplicate all Layers of EACH slide in original Flash file
    copying EACH SLIDE’S individual frames and pasting them into similarly named Layers in a new file
    unfortunately, half the time the animation is not preserved and I end up recreating the slide from scratch
    There must be a more efficient way!  Surely there is a way to preserve the endless hours of animation done by the original creators.  Is there a tool that will export say, 100 slides into 100 new individual Flash files?  I’ve used Captivate and Dreamweaver for years but I’m relatively new to Flash, so maybe I’m overlooking a simple solution.
    Any assistance would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Save as a Flash 8 FLA, then find someone with Flash 8 to save
    it as a Flash 7 FLA.

  • Flash image leak to new tab in FF

    Hello,
    I use Mandriva Linux 2011 x64 with Firefox 15.0 and latest 64bit flash plugin of version 11.2.202.238. Since flash plugin 11.2.202.233 I have problem with some web sites e.g. "www.shmu.sk" or "www.bsm.sk -> Forum medicum", that if I go to that web page it is displayed correctly but if I press CTRL+T, means to open new empty tab in FF I see one of the flash images from first tab. The same with Opera. Also if I navigate to some web page on this 2nd tab I still see flash from first one on the background. Last version of flash plugin without this bug for me was flash-plugin-11.1.102.63-release.x86_64.rpm. Does anybody observed this problem? Any solution?
    Thanks.

    OverrideGPUValidation=1 didn't help. I use latest nvidia graphics card driver 304.43. I found web site http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-announce/2012-September/002066.html where is written that there is some problem between Adobe and Nvidia regarding flash leak to other widndows and in fact I realized that flash is not leaked only to new tab of FF but also to other white windows. With flash plugin 11.1.102.63 there is no problem also with latest nvidia driver 304.43. So is it possible somehow to change setting in some cfg file which causes flash plugin 11.2.202.238 to behave like 11.1.102.63 regarding this image leaks?

  • Need help with flash player / slider bar navigation

    Hello, I am having a flash player developed right now for a
    intensive video site.
    I have a few questions since I'm new to flash.
    I would like the users to be able to jump forward in the
    video at any point. However, the player my developer gave me cannot
    do this. He is telling me that I will need FMS (Flash Media Server)
    software on my server in order to do this.
    Is this correct? Can we get this option without FMS?
    Also, is this a big change in scope to add this in. Our flash
    player is already done but does not have this very important
    feature.
    Thanks in advance.

    There are two methods to having this work.
    1. Use the FMS as your developer already stated.
    2. Keyframe the heck out of the FLV. This works because the
    typical player skin allows you to skip around to a keyframe. The
    more keyframes you have, the more places you can skip around to.
    The downside is that each keyframe you add to the video adds file
    size. You may also need to set the totalTime parameter of the video
    on load.
    :: EDIT ::
    You ask about implementation and scope changes in your
    question. The first is a very big scope change, and very costly to
    implement. The second, if the player that was developed uses the
    standard classes for the player scrub bar, would likely only
    require a re-encode of every video.

  • Add Link to Flash Image

    Hi,
    I'm a bit of a newby to dreamweaver and flash. I've made some
    nice buttons in flash so when you rollover and click they change
    colour, make sound etc. Thing is, I thought when I imported these
    into dreamweaver I'd be able to just add a link and target like
    most other things. WRONG. cant see anywhere where I can add a link.
    Is this possible? I want to be able to click the flash image (in
    the top frame) so it opens the relevant page in the main frame.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Peter

    Frames? EGAD!
    The decision to use or not use frames should be based on a)
    your site's
    needs, and b) your willingness to accept the potential
    problems that frames
    can create for you as developer and maintainer of the site
    and for your
    visitors as casual users of the site.
    I am down on frames because I believe that they create many
    more problems
    than they solve.
    Judging from the posts here, and the kinds of problems that
    are described,
    the kind of person most likely to elect to use frames is also
    the kind of
    person most likely ill-prepared fo solve the ensuing problems
    when they
    arise. If you feel a) that you understand the problems and b)
    that you are
    prepared to handle them when they occur, and c) that you have
    a need to use
    frames, then by all means use them.
    As far as I know, the most comprehensive discussions of
    frames and their
    potential problems can be found on these two links -

    but it doesnt change the page as you can see this on this link
    below
    http://www.nwmsltd.com/webtest/preloader.html
    but its supose to look like this example( if you clicked on
    the installs button a 3d amimated wipe will go across the screen
    then it will jump to the Installs page)
    http://www.nwmsltd.com/webtest/kidpower_Web.swf
    and i dont know why
    im using the flash 8 Slide presentation template as its
    perfect for what im achive easy to and works fine with out the
    external preloader but if i use the external preloader it stop the
    buttons working by stoping them going to the next page
    the code that tells flash to goto the correct slide is in the
    movie clip where the image sequance of the wipe is and at the end
    of the image sequance i have an action layer which is as follows
    // GoTo Screen behavior
    if((_root.application.Installs != undefined) &&
    (_root.application.Installs != null))
    var screen = null;
    var target = this;
    while((screen == null) && (target != undefined)
    && (target != null))
    if(target instanceof mx.screens.Screen)
    screen = target;
    else
    target = target._parent;
    if(screen instanceof mx.screens.Slide)
    screen.gotoSlide(_root.application.Installs);
    // End GoTo Screen behavior
    and my external preloader code is as follows
    var mcl:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
    var mclL:Object = new Object();
    mclL.onLoadProgress = function(target, loaded,total) {
    loader.percent.text = Math.round((loaded/total) * 100) +
    mclL.onLoadInit = function () {
    loader._visible = false;
    loader.percent.text = "";
    mcl.addListener(mclL);
    mcl.loadClip("kidpower_Web.swf",holder);
    b1.onRelease = function() {
    loader._visible = true;
    mcl.loadClip("kidpower_Web.swf",holder);
    b2.onRelease = function() {
    loader._visible = true;
    mcl.loadClip("2_Web.swf",holder);

  • Flash 8 Slide Show

    Can anyone help me? I have been beating my head against a
    wall for two days trying to do a simple slide presentation. The
    tutorial is sooooooooooooooo vague and the example gives steps to
    doing something I am not in the least interested in doing right
    now. I think this is the most frustrating software I have ever
    used, but I won't give up!!!! Is there anyone out there that could
    spend some time with me and help me do some simple things, like a
    slide show that fades in and out, can anyone explane it to me in
    simple terms. I am new at this but have used "Front Page" for
    alomost two years. I want to upgrade and get proficient at Flash
    and Dreamweaver. So far the help menues have been absolutely
    discouraging and of no help at all.
    Thank you for any help you can give me,
    Need it to be simple.

    Very few things worth doing in life are completely simple and
    easy. You would be amazed at how many folks come to Flash and
    expect to be able to do some incredibly complex and fully developed
    application within a few tutorials. Really not going to happen!
    Almost nothing in creating a Flash XML Slide Show is all that
    difficult – if you approach it one small problem at a time.
    But if you try and make the whole thing in one pass it certainly
    will be daunting.
    I don't know what tutorial you are using so it is difficult
    to advise on that front. But often the "something I am not in the
    least interested in doing right now" part either means you are
    doing the wrong tutorial or you are far to impatient and should
    slow down your expectations a bit. Maybe.
    For the OP, are you trying to make a timeline based slideshow
    where the images are all imported to the stage and then revealed
    with some animations or perhaps even with a click of a forward/back
    button? Or are you trying to make an actionscript based type of
    interactive extensible slide show. Your answer will very much
    affect how we could possibly help here.
    For jim boles. Same thing. None of a Flash XML slide show is
    all that hard – but it is really difficult to remember that
    you were out to drain the swamp when you are up to your (ahemmmm)
    in alligators! The forum shows this is your first post. So first,
    something like that would likely get more help in the Actionscript
    forum. Then additionally I would think you should have a history of
    "How do I use the MovieClipLoader to load external Images" and "How
    do create a nice XML transfer" and "onEnterFrame vs. setInterval:
    what is your favorite way to fade a clip?" You should tackle each
    of these little problems before you try and combine them all
    together.
    There is a reason that a lot of folks charge for such things.
    It is an investment in time, learning, and development to make such
    a thing.

    Your spry assets folder MUST be in the same folder as that of your webpage with the slideshow (html, php... whatever)
    Check your folder configuration on the server by clicking on the "Remote Button" on the DW Assets Tab.
    Example 1:  This will not work:
    WEBPAGE HERE:    /server/public/myfolder/slideshow.html
    SPRY ASSETS HERE:  /server/public/SpryAssets/....your javascript files
    Example 2: This will work:
    WEB PAGE HERE:  /server/public/myfolder/slideshow.html
    SPRY ASSETS HERE:  /server/public/myfolder/SpryAssets/....your javascript files
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my flash image viewer look different in firefox than in IE...

    So I have created a horizontal spry bar that overlaps a flash image viewer slide show. When i load the page in IE everything works fine, but as soon as you open it in firefox it works improperly...you can hit refresh in firefox and sometimes it resizes the image I don't understand how that is possible....if you have any input it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    You need to be aware of the limitations of the various browsers and make sure you use web-safe fonts and colors.....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/WebMusic/FontsandColors.html
    Do a Command A on all your pages in iWeb to make sure that objects/text boxes are not touching or overlapping.
    Firefox has problems with displaying drop shadows/frames etc.
    To get help with specific issues you would need to tell us the URL of our site.

  • My js drop down is not showing up in safari with swishmax flash image

    Hi. I'm not a mac user so I'm a little out of my element here, but I've designed a new home page for my work site and and all is ok except that my flash image (created in swishmax) is interferring with the drop down js nav. Basically (from what i hear from my users) the drop down apears and then disapears upon selection. I was having a similar issue with firefox yesterday and that is now fixed by adding the wmode tranparent function. Looks like that function is not supported by safari? Is this problem because I am using swishmax?
    Please, if you can shed any light on the subject... I would be eternally gratefull!

    Hi
    sorry to say that the problem is still there.....
    works fine in Camino & Firefox.
    The page fails W3C validation, & Safari can be picky about that sort of thing. A valid doctype would be my first suggestion.

  • Image slide show...

    Hi,
    If I have a Flash web page with a button and I'd like an
    image slide show to launch at the top of the page upon one clicking
    the button, plus the slide show container to have the play/pause,
    forward, backward controls, along with small numbers 1-10
    (appropriate number highlighted for which photo you are viewing)
    also...how much time would it be to set up the controls,
    actionScript / interactivity? (a guesstimate)
    If I'm creating and prepping all images, buttons, etc -- just
    need someone to actionScript and set up the controls, how much
    would you estimate this would cost and, as above, timeframe in
    hours?
    Thank you! Just trying to get an idea.

    I'm sure I remember a few years ago now a heated discussion
    on whether it counts as price fixing to discuss fees in an online
    forum.
    It really depends on who was doing it. As a guesstimate I'd
    say 4-5 hours from scratch which would cover setting it up and
    probably one revision. If you were happy to use a component that
    was designed for it then a fraction of that time, probably under an
    hour. You'll pay more for someone with experience, but then they're
    probably faster and the standard of the work will be higher.
    In my opinion it's worth paying a little more for a quality
    company who may foresee problems you overlook rather than pinching
    the pennies, but that's your call.
    If you're looking to do it on the cheap then buy a component
    and have their technical support set it up (or at least help you)
    for free.

  • Flash Image Gallery

    I purchased the Flash Image Gallery Extension. Installed and
    created several beautiful working galleries.
    In my image gallery (link below) there are Category titles
    176, 186, etc.. When you click the titles it changes the thumbnail
    pictures, while the main image remains the same.
    Question: I'd like to click on a Category Title and have the
    Main Fullsize image change as well. This would help visually to see
    that you have in fact changed to a new category. As it is now, it
    is not evident that you've changed category. You have to go to the
    tn images and click there.
    Can you give me some direction on how accomplish this?
    Perhaps a behavior - when category title is clicked on the main
    image will appear for that category? Seems like a simple edit. Can
    I do such an edit on a purchased gallery template file extension?
    New to flash, quite familiar with DW CS3. Below is a link to
    my gallery:
    My
    Gallery Link

    Hi
    These can be linked together - it will need you to change the
    destination of the 'Front Page' link (URL) to point to the
    appropriate 'Gallery', in the XML you can identify sections by
    using the same 'Gallery Id' from the link (URL) in the 'Front
    Page'.
    Does that make sense?, if you need more help then let me
    know

  • Dreamweaver/Flash Image/Link

    Hi. Thanks in advance for any help. I design a small website
    for the company I work for using Dreamweaver as the main program. I
    have never placed a Flash image before and cannot figure out how to
    place a link to another website on this image.
    Here is what I have now:
    <object
    classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0"
    width="392" height="72">
    <param name="movie"
    value="../images/NOLN_banner_v1.swf">
    <param name="quality" value="high">
    <embed src="../images/NOLN_banner_v1.swf" quality="high"
    pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="392"
    height="72"></embed>
    </object>
    I need to link this to another website other than my own. I
    thought it would be like any other image in Dreamweaver. Help?
    I guess I should mention the Flash image was provided by a
    company wanted it linked to their site.

    It's completely unlike any other HTML element, since it's
    EMBEDDED in the
    page, not actually on the page.
    You cannot add a link to a Flash element using HTML. You must
    add this link
    in the Flash Actionscript. To do that, you would have to have
    Flash, and
    the SWF file's parent FLA file....
    Perhaps you could ask the provider to make the link for you?

  • Flash Image slideshow help

    Hello,
    I am trying to make a image slideshow for my companies new website.
    I used the Flash Image Viewer plugin from Dreamweaver, but it doesn't contain the transitional effect desired.
    Every tutorial I find talks about advancing the images through an interactive control, I just want the images to change by themselves and do a fade transitional effect between images.
    Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that has this w/o the intractive buttons?  I have been looking on the internet for hours and can only find tutorials / example w/ the intractve controls.
    Thank You for any positive direction in this.

    Hmm... no luck so far.  Thank You though for your suggestion.
    I am really "green" to flash and was only confused by the template provided by Flash.
    All I need to do is have images fade in and out of each other and then repeat over and over.
    I know this isn't too hard.  I found a tutorial that showed how, but my Firefox decided to close and I lost the page and haven't been able to find it since.  Tried the history log, but no luck.
    I will keep searchin...I know it's out there.
