New To Illustrator CS4 - How do you select the Arc Tool to Draw Arcs?

PDF on Illustrator doesn't indicate how to select the Arc tool. Extract from toe pdf follows:
Draw arcs
1 Select the Arc tool . (HELP -- I CAN'T LOCATE THE ARC TOOL).
2 Do one of the following:
• Position the pointer where you want the arc to begin, and drag to where you want the arc to end.
• Click where you want the arc to begin. In the dialog box, click a square on the reference point locator to determine the point from which the arc is drawn. Then set any of the following options, and click OK.
Length X-Axis
Specifies the width of the arc.
Length Y-Axis
Specifies the height of the arc.
Type
Specifies whether you want the object to be an open path or a closed path.
Base Along
Specifies the direction of the arc. Choose X Axis or Y Axis depending on whether you want to draw the base of the arc along the horizontal (x) axis or vertical (y) axis.
Slope
Specifies the direction of the arc’s slope. Enter a negative value for a concave (inward) slope. Enter a positive value for a convex (outward) slope. A slope of 0 creates a straight line.
Fill Arc
Fills the arc with the current fill color.
Note: To see a dynamic preview of the arc as you set options, double-click the arc tool in the Tools panel.

Can i suggest that you explore al the tools there are drop down menus and on the panels as well in the upper right hand corner there is a drop down with useful functions and options. Also look at the control panel under the menu bar as you change tools to see the option each tool has and also some tools have further settings if you double click the icon in the tool bar other have option if you click in the document window once you have selected them.
But the best advice I can give you is to buy Mordy Goldings book Real World Illustrator CS 4 he also has one for the suites, it is a worthwhile investment.

I'm somewhat almost a complete newb to Illustrator, and would really appreciate some help!
Is there any possible way to continue a brush stroke from your last brush stroke's end point (the anchor point)? For instance, if I drew half of a circle with one brush stroke, and wanted to cleanly complete the circle by having the next brush stroke start from the point where I last finished, how would I do that?

What tool did you use to draw? Since you said brushstroke will assume you used the paintbrush tool.
Double click on paintbrush tool for the options. Change your settings to mine, especially the bottom 2 checkmarks.

How do you use the wdeploy tool in iPlanet Web Server with Windows 2000 Server?

I found this on the knowledge base, but only described how to use this with Unix. Does this work with Windows? How do you set the IWS_SERVER_HOME environment variable as well? I don't see it in the file.

Hi,
This is pretty common scenario. The best way to achieve this is to split your servers using a collection and deploy a different client settings. You could target your collection using the OS or an OU in AD. There are many option there.
You could also limit the access to the Server collection using Role Based Access to avoid any human "errors" on these collections. Users without rights to these collection just won't see them.

In Flash CS4, how do you select multiple anchor points across separate layers?

I am talking about anchor points on a line, not a keyframe. They are also called "handles". I can select the anchor points as "white" quickly, but I can't get them to be "solid"without doing it layer by layer, which is tedious. What I want is way to select lines that are in different layers and get the points I selected in a way similar to the regular selection tool or free transform tool. I have been trying to do this all day and I can't find a good way to do this, and I would appreciate any help.
Here is an image of what I'm trying to do, but more easily. The lines are on separate layers, but when I select them with the subselection tool I have to go layer by layer selecting the points. I'm trying to look for a very quick way of doing it. When I do select all with the subselection tool on, the anchor points are only "white" and not "solid" as shown below.

How do you select the ical calendar which an event is added to?

Since switching from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4, I cannot choose which ical calendar to add an event to. It used to be an option when you created a new event, but now it creates all events in a new calendar, called 'calendar', which I neither want, nor seem to be able to delete. There appears to be no way to select the calendar or edit which calendar the event appears in. This is important to me as my 'work' calendar is shared with multiple colleagues.

How do you select the center of a box in CS5?

I notice in CS5 that you can no longer select a box - say a picture box - click on the center and snap it to a guide or move to a location. You can only grab the edge of the box to move it. I'm sure this is a vast improvement but I don't like it. Is there a pref to turn on or off to be able to select an object at it's center? Thx.

Hmmm. ID doesn't put the old center dot in a frame anymore, at least not most of the time, but the center should still be snapping, regardless of where you grab the frame. I'm not seeing any necessity to grab the edge (though if you have the content grabber turned on it's not difficult to accidentally move the content instead of the frame). What are you seeing?

How can you select the "from" in Mail with multiple accounts?

Is there a simple dropdown to select the "From" field in Mail when using multiple accounts?
All I can find is a support page saying From is defined by the email account that is highlighted and active.

When you hover your mouse over your name in the from field it presents a little arrow. Click it and it lets you select who you are sending an email as.
Also if your reading an email that you got say to your @iCloud.com email when you hit compose it will automatically select your @iCloud.com email to compose your email.

How do you use the MASK tool with 4K footage?

Hi everyone!
Normally when I use the mask tool, I drag it onto the footage and four nodes appear on the clip, one in each corner - and then I can move each corner to where I want it...
I've just shot some 4k footage using a Canon 1d-c and for some reason, when I drag the Mask onto the footage, the four nodes still appear but I can't move them around!
Does that make sense?
Any help would be massively appreciated!

There shouldn't be any difference in being able to adjust them just because you're using 4K. I can't reproduce the problem and can't think of a reason why it would happen. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

How do you get the smudge tool to work?

I'm using the latest iPad, trying to make digital art via photoshop. Thing is, when i use the smudge tool, it simple burns the area around it, and makes the two colours even more separated than before! I bought this £7 app purely for this tool; so as you can imagine, I'm extremely disappointed in this fault, especially with that price. I see this issue has been addressed at least twice before, years ago, and yet nothing has changed or helped. Fair enough, it works for photos; but for those of us who with to create other forms of art, this is ridiculous.

No you don’t need to uninstall iPhoto but are you trying to edit a photo from the iPhoto Library?
If so export a copy from iPhoto to the desktop and then open that copy in the Elements editor.

You don't select it as an option when using the macbook, it just happens when the system needs more speed. Also if you think you're macbook pro is "overheating" while you're using it, it really isn't because it would come up with a heat warning if it was overheating. Your mac will tell you when its running out of spec so when it gets dangerously hot, you will know.

Surround bounce - how do you select the number of channels?

When doing a surround bounce, Logic is always giving me a 5.1 even though I want a different number of channels. I have my surround setup selected in audio preferences, and it seems like it should bounce using that same config, but it does 5.1 either interleaved or split. I don't see any options for number of channels in the bounce window.
Any ideas? It seems like this worked in earlier versions of Logic, but with the latest I can't get any other number of channels.

Found where it's set in the app, but looks like it's buggy in 9.x. I went back and checked 8.x and it works fine there.
Anyone want to try it out? Under project settings->surround format, you should be able to set a format and then do a bounce with Surround Bounce and Interleaved selected. In L8, the bounce would be the number of channels selected in project settings, but in 9, it looks like it always bounces 6 channels regardless of settings.
If someone could take a minute and test it out, I'd really appreciate it - I'll be reporting it to apple but I'd like to make sure it's not just my system. Thanks.

How do you select the play length bar in an iphone/ipod?

Sometimes I have a single song file of a book which is quite long, 10 hours, so I need to be able to restart where I left off. It is easy to mess up and end up back at the beginning. I have noticed that sometimes Imusic shows a play back length bar which would allow me to go back into the middle of a long song, rather than start all over again. I can't figure how this play length bar is activated, even though I have seen it often. See the upper bar in image below.

How do you change the size of pictures?

I'm a new Mac user. How do you change the size of pictures in iPhoto? Sometimes when sending e-mails, the picture files are extremely large and take a long time to load... Is there any way you can make the picture or file smaller? Like on a PC, you can open the photo in the Paint program and just reduce the size... Is there anything like this for the Mac?

Assuming that you're accessing your email package from INSIDE iPhoto, you're given a choice of picture sizes. Personally, I've found "medium" to be a good compromise but you might prefer "small" (iPhoto will tell you the file size).
If you don't know what I'm talking about, first go iPhoto Preferences > General and select your email client. Then, go to the View menu and select Show in Toolbar > Email.
